Screen problems with Satellite P100-429

A few months ago I noticed a thin pink vertical stripe had appeared near the left hand side of my screen that bisects the entire screen and does not disappear whatever else is on the screen. Well I kind of let it slide and now there are hundreds of vertical coloured vertical lines all across the screen. The IT help guy at work states that it is because my toshiba drivers need updating. I have visited their website and tried to download some, but they appear to make no difference or else don't work.
Is this a recognised problem? What causes it? Could it be some physical damage?

If you see the problem *before* Windows starts (for example in the BIOS or at the Toshiba splash screen), then its not a driver problem.
Sounds like it needs a new LCD if the lines are single pixel in size.

  • USB problem with Satellite P100-219

I have problem with USB flash memory on my Toshiba. Al devices on USB are workig except usb memory and external hard disc. USB and hard are OK. When I connect them it says USB device not recognized. I have win 7 ultimate, but I've also try XP and it is not working not under XP or Win7.
Can it be BIOS related. Bios is Phoenix 4.80, last update from Toshiba support. Motherboard drivers are also updated. But in BIOS I don't see any USB fucntion?
Anybody have any idea? (all common metodhs like uninstalling drivers or similar are already done)
    Thx in advance

  • Satellite P100-429 - No sound after Windows 7 installation

    I have a Satellite P100-429 Purchased Nov 2006.
I have just upgraded from XP to Windows 7 and Office Pro Plus. All works well but there is no sound if I try to play a CD. I have done usual checks for Mute etc. but no Joy. In device manager a yellow triangle with exclamation mark within is against my sound device. C
an I download a new driver to solve problem or is it more complicated than that? Than you

    Hello
For me it sounds like that you didnt install the sound driver for sound card
According the Toshiba website there is no 64bit sound driver available for Satellite P100 but I noticed that Satellite P300 supports Windows 7 64bit and has Conexant sound card too. Maybe this driver is working for you too.
Just search for Satellite P300 drivers and test the sound driver It should work! :)

  • Need WXP drivers for Satellite P100 -429

    Hi,
I had to reinstall windows XP on my gf Satellite P100-429, but she lost the origina disk, so when i installed the new XP there are the following devices missing drivers (they have yellow question mark beside them) and I cant connect the laptop to the internet.
    1. Audio Device On High Definition Audio Bus
    2. Ethernet Controller
    3. Mass Storage controller
    4. Netwrok controller
    5. SM Bus Controller
    6 Video Controller (VGA Compatible)
Can anyone tell me where I can find these drivers, i have been looking all day for them.
I imagine if I can find them its just a case of putting them on a disk or usb key and installing them ?
    Thanks a million.

You must see this problem from other side. Fact is that all drivers, tools and utilities must be installed in right installation order. How to do this is listed in Installation Instruction document and this can be downloaded on this download page for your notebook model.
Obviously you didnt follow this order and some drivers are missing now.
    1. Audio Device On High Definition Audio Bus try with sound driver and install also modem driver
    2. Ethernet Controller install LAN driver
    3. Mass Storage controller is chipset utility installed?
    4. Netwrok controller is WLAN driver installed?
    5. SM Bus Controller try with flash media driver
6 Video Controller (VGA Compatible) display driver
Install this and post result but, as I wrote before best way to install all stuff properly is to follow install instructions document.

  • BIOS update fails on Satellite P100-429

Ive had a bad flash on my Satellite P100-429.
The utility crashed which left me with a bookend. Not happy
Ive created a floppy crisis recovery disk & bought a USB floppy drive after much hunting the internet for info.
Problem is I need verification on the exact key combination for my laptop to envoke crisis recovery mode.
On power up I have usual symptoms, flash of LEDs, power to CD-rom, power click of floppy drive etc...
I just need to verify correct sequence for key combinations.
    Can anyone help?
    Win-f, win-b, fn-f, fn-b, win-esc, fn-escape doesnt seem to work for me
How long to wait for floppy to start after combination etc?
    Help!

    Hi
I dont have experience with these BIOS recovery tools because in my opinion its a little bit too risky. This is no official way to recover a BIOS and I dont want to destroy the whole ROM module.
In my opinion if a BIOS update wasnt successful, you should go to an authorized service provider. Contact a notebook technician and explain your situation. The technician can try to reflash it and they have more experience. I think this shouldnt be a problem to contact one. ;)
    Good luck!

  • Satellite P100-429 - New WLAN card doesn't work

    Hi,
    I've just upgraded my home network to draft 'N' standard and thought I'd upgrade my WiFi card on my P100-429 Laptop;
Laptop is running Vista Home Premium, and has the latest BIOS and Drivers installed.
Laptop currently has an Intel 3945ABG card fitted, which works fine. I purchased an Intel 4965AGN Card but when I fit it, the computer powers up, but wont load (lights on, fan on - nothing else)
    O.K. - So I read up on a few forums, could be a bad card, so I bought a Toshiba branded 4965AGN card - P/N G86C0002P710
Still have the same problem - the computer refuses to start up. Intel tech support say the card should work?
Obviously a compatability issue - is there anything I can do about it?
Or does anybody know what type of card I should use?
    Thanks for your help!

Im not a Satellite P100 owner but is your notebook equipped with 3 or only 2 antennas?
If your notebook does only have 2 antennas you cant upgrade it to draft N because this WiFi standard needs 3 antennas.
I think your notebook does only have 2 antennas so this would be the reason why both cards are not compatible to your notebook.

  • Satellite P100 - 429 A3 Turning off when windows loads

Heya. This is a serious problem that has rendered my Notebook unusable. I was just wondering if anyone knows what it is.
I was in a source game when it happened for the first time, I jumped in the game and the laptop just cut out. No shutting down, it just turned straight off as if someone had held the power button. I stared at it for a minute then powered it back on. It seemed to go fine, I thought it was just an odd hiccup, but then after it had finished the windows loading screen, it did exactly the same thing. Now every time I start up, it get's past the loading screen and sometimes it get's to the Welcome message, soemtimes before the cursor is even loaded it will turn off in the same mannor.
The only things I have recently changed is the BIOS (which is my obvious suspicion.) I was just browsing the Toshiba website drivers page and I found a BIOS update for my Notbook cliaming that it had been improved. So I downloaded and installed it, once the installation had done it's job the Notebook restarted, but on first run Windows bluescreened before it had even loaded. Then after that it was working fine until now.
I also tried to use a Windows disk to do a recovery of windows. However, the recovery console caused the same thing. Within a few seconds of initializing, the computer just cut out.
If anyone has a clue what's goind on, please let me know.
Sorry for any typos, I'm not on a familiar keyboard.
    Thanks again.
    Wolfy

    > I jumped in the game and the laptop just cut out. No shutting down, it just turned straight off as if someone had held the power button.
Well, this sounds like an overheating issue. Fact is that all internal devices run with a full performance during the game playing. This leads to a high temperature inside the notebook. If your ventilators are not free due to the dust and debris then the notebook will shouts down to prevent the hardware from damage.
In such cases the fan cleaning is necessary and advisable.
I have had a similar issue on my notebook and solved it using an compressed air spray!
In my knowledge the Sat P100-429 belongs to the PSPA3 series.
You should really be 100% sure that you use the right BIOS.
However, its also possible that the notebooks hardware malfunctions.
In such case the hardware check is needed. Such test can be done by an authorized service provider in your country.
    Good luck

  • Satellite P100-429 - cannot install display drivers for Win XP SP3

    Hi,
i have Toshiba p100 429 laptop, installed with win xp professional sp3. I'am unable to change screen resolution from 640 by 480.
Actually i tried to download display driver from toshiba site but after installing driver it give blue screen with error message NV4_mini.sys error.
After this i can not even start my laptop.
I am presently using external monitor ( sync master B2230). I have also tried to download drivers from Nvidia website but that does not work either.
Resolution on my screen is still low. thanks for your help

Have you tried to install THIS driver?

  • Problems with Satellite A300-1GC XP install - CD not working?

    Hi there
I have few looks round in various forums and did not find any answer at all.
I have the A300-1GC Satellite and had (since last night) vista on it. As Vista caused
an awful lot of problems with various programs I decided to get rid of it.
The problem now is - if I stick my XP installation CD it it reads "press any key to start from CD".
Done that and then nothing happens. The CD reading head keeps on moving backwards and forwards
but nothing happens at all. Not even the start of the blue installation screen.
Any ideas where that comes from?
Might the CD-rom also be running in AHCI mode (can a CD drive do that?) and requires drivers?
I tried various XP CDs - neither works. The latest one I had was with SP3 and build in Feb 2009 so fairly recent.
    Any clues?
    Cheers
    Tobimaster

    Hi
In your case the issue has nothing to do with SATA mode (AHCI or Compatible mode) but it look like the CD/DVD drive cannot handle the inserted Win XP disk
    Why? Who knows
Fact is that the CD cannot be read and therefore the installation cannot get on.
Try to copy this disk using another computer and then you could try to use the copied disk on order to install the Win XP.
Just for info: I'm using TDK -R disks (CD and DVD)... I'm very satisfied

  • Black screen problem on Satellite 1800-921

    Hi there
My satellite 1800-921 has started giving me a black screen after i turn it on. It loads up fine, goes to the desktop and then the screen goes blank and nothing i can do will get it back. You can just make out the dialogue boxes on the screen so I am not sure if its a screen problem or the things i see on the screen are just ghosts...
    It's a bit worrying!
Has anyone else had this problem? So far it only seems to happen when i turn it on. I usually have to turn it off and start again to get it back and then it works fine.
    thanks
    Nancy :)

    Hi,
at older series it can be that the FL inverter is broken or the backlight tupe is damaged. In both cases you can see the screen but without backlight!
To differi if it is a hard- or software based error you should start the notebook and press immediately ESC to enter BIOS. Then the machine should run a half hour in BIOS. When the failure occures it is quite safe that some hardware is broken. Otherwise it is software based and a recovery with the Toshiba Recovery CD should solve the problem!

  • Various problems with Satellite L505D-S5983

After getting a virus on my laptop I simply decided it would be best to reset the computer to factory settings.
So I pressed restart, then F8, and following that I followed the steps to factory reset my laptop.
Though it took the laptop about 15 hours to restart and reload everything? (I didn't do any kind of recovery, so it's as if I just took it out of the box, it did it's thing where it loaded it for the "first use")
So obviously I had to get some sleep within that 15 hours I had done this reset at night, so I wasn't aware of what it was doing? When I got on it the next morning it had finished the process for the first use. Then something went wrong when I had been on it and it froze so I turned it off. When I turned it back on it kept trying to do the "first use" process again.
Then at some point it stopped. So I was able to connect to the internet and download google chrome and such.
    Then more problems became evident.
The first one being the font is blurry. Now I'm not sure if it's because the screen is rectangular as opposed to monitor I'm currently using which is square.
The next one is a little more aggrivating, whenever I try to log on on its regular mode, I'll click on my account (the admin account, the only account on the laptop.)
When I click on it, it tells me that my accound has been disabled and that I need to contact the system admin - which I thought I was.
So now, after going through my user accounts when I'm on safe mode with networking, I can't find anything to fix that.
So now, apparently I've gone on safe mode too frequently where if I try to open chrome, my blue screen pops up indicating a crash, and it restarts.
So hopefully this is all fixable?
    Thank you for the help.

If it is taking that long to recover and you still have issues I would use your recovery media that you should make if you have not did so already. As Toshiba suggest it is best to make the recovery media when the laptop is new because it can become infected by a virus just like your main operating system.
You should not interrupt the recovery, meaning keep power supply plugged in and don't force a restart. If something happened to interrupt the recovery you can just recover to factory settings again except use the copy you previously made.
If you still have issues you may have other problems.

  • Is Pentium 4 2.8GHz compatible with Satellite P100?

    Hi
I have an 18 month old Satellite P100 with a 1.6GHz processor (not dual core) and want to know if this laptop will happily work if I fit a 2.8GHz Pentium 4 processor or will it damage the motherboard?
    Cheers
    Wacky

May I ask you why do you want to replace the Intel Dual Core 1.6GHz with the old Pentium 4 2.8Ghz?
For me this make no sense because the Dual Core 1.6GHz is much faster as the P4 2.8Ghz.
The name says everything; Dual core means that two CPU cores run at 1.6GHz. SO if you would add performance of the both cores you will get a higher performance as the Pentium 4 2.8 GHz.
By the way; as far as I know the P4 supports an different layout so its not compatible with the board!

  • Screen Problems with iMac G5 20" (iSight)

    Hello!
I had the same problem with my iMac G5 20" (iSight) as described by Bob North Apr. 18, 2006 at http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/imacg5/topic2276.html#apr25:
"""" I repair Apple products, and recently I've seen strange and erratic display problems with the G5 flat-panel (iSight) 17" and 20"...and I am very curious about the origin. The picture will display what I will call "plaid pixles". Upon boot, the dispaly appears normal, but within 5-10 minutes, either at desktop or in ASD, the normal display will "crash" to the "plaid" display. The desktop, or whatever, can still be distinguished in the background, but it is overwashed by the plaid patterns -- which do change slightly, and also cover the full space of the screen. I've seen different scenarios, 3 in 2 weeks, where the symptom is exhibited with no particular failure pattern -- both before and after repair. I've replaced the main logic on one occasion, with no fix...but the 2nd try replaced both display panel and inverter. The display issue was fixed, but the system exhibited lockups only when it reached the destop. Another repair the same issue was seen after replacing the 20" main logic, where the symptom was not present previous. Personal opinion of the late 2005 IMAC flat-panels, in the hardware sense, is the likelihood of component manufacture issues, possibly the main logic boards or the panel displays themselves. Repair of this model, as opposed to the earlier, non-iSight flat-panel 17 and 20" models are extremely difficult -- access to main componenets is blocked by the display panel, which must be removed for each troubleshooting attempt. The internal hardware design is not oriented for repair ease...they are by far the most difficult to work on.
Any input regarding the display issues? Thanks.""""
I can't use the mouse or anything else, and after a while the fans start to go on max. This is the second time I encounter this problem within 30 days. What I have noticed is that the day before, the brightness of the screen started to "blink" slightly -- like if the screen tried to adjust itself.
But I haven't experienced what Bob North describes as the: "Upon boot, the dispaly appears normal, but within 5-10 minutes, either at desktop or in ASD, the normal display will "crash" to the "plaid" display".
I just restart with the power button and everything is working OK. I made an Extended Hardware test without any problems detected.
I have been looking for this issue with iMac G5 20" (iSight) and only found it at http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/imacg5/topic2276.html#apr25 :

Does it look anything like this?

My nearly 3 year old Titanium PowerBook G4 just did this one day, out of the blue. The problem went away after a few minutes, but I had already taken photos. Thanks to those photos, Apple gave the powerbook a new logic board.
(This PowerBook has had its logic board replaced twice, a new optical drive, and a cracked case edge replaced. AppleCare has more than paid for itself. Despite the occasional problems, I remain very happy with this machine. I'm sure I'd be much less happy if I had not bought AppleCare!)
