Screen Redraw problems on 3.3

I am getting more and more disappointed with Apple products lately. I've been a faithful Aperture user since the rip-off $699 V1.0...
It seems that they are fading away from the Pro's as time goes by...
This upgrade is a joke. I have 334 Projects and 37000 Photos... The monochrome icons are hard to find, advanced features are gone and there I am experiencing slower performance...
I have a super fast 12-Core 2.66GHz Mac Pro with 1TB Accelsior SSD PCIe Hard Drive (I get 750MB/sec R/W Speeds) and use Photoshop CS6 Extended.
It used to take about half a second to open a TIFF photo in PS (22MP from a Canon 5D III or 16MP from Canon 1D IV). Now, it takes about a second. I know it might not mean much but I was used to speed and now it is slower...
My main problem is screen redraw. I have two 27" LED Apple Cinema Displays. One in Landscape Mode and the second in Portrait.
I keep my Browser on the left (horizontal) and the viewer on the right (vertical) screen... When hitting "Z" to zoom to 100%, there is a hesitation on the image redraw and I get 2 black borders to the sides of the image and like a half a second later the image is finally fully covering the screen...
This NEVER happened before.
I am a Pro and expect updates to be reliable. I need to work as fast as I can...
Apple is really starting to **** me off with bad releases. Everything seems to be geared towards consumer products.
They did it last year with Final Cut Pro and they are doing it now with Aperture 3.3.
Why do they feel the need to remove features instead of adding or improving them?
Why is it necessary to merge iPhoto library on Aperture? Pros and consumers should stay separate...
Next thing, they are gonna merge Final Cut Pro X with iMovie...
I do love the new White Balance "Skin Tone" feature... It works great.
I think I'm going back to 3.2.4 until they release a 3.3.1 update or better off, an over due 4.0. I hope I don't have to wait 3 years for it like I'm gonna have to wait for a new redesigned Mac Pro... I still can't believe the Mac Pro box is 9 years old, since the introduction of the G5...

Please don't rant, whine, or tell your personal tale of woe here.  We are just users, like yourself.  A number of us help others -- for no remuneration, notice, or status beyond our rather sad looking handful of dots.  (I see you have the minimum  .)
Apple is notoriously difficult to talk to.  The approved channel is via "Aperture➞Provide Aperture Feedback".  If you want to tell them what you think, that is the way to do so.
If you have specific problems or issues regarding Aperture that you would like some community help resolving, by all means post them here.  Be specific and informative -- what is the problem?  when did it start?  how is what you see different from what you expect?  what have done so far to resolve your problem?  what effect, if any, have your attempts had? -- and edit out everything else.
Nice system, btw.
You might take a look at your Preview settings.  Mine were changed without notice when I upgraded to 3.3.  I don't see how this would necessarily slow down screen refreshes, but it might make it seem slower.
And -- just for buddy-buddy -- I used iMovie for three weeks straight a couple of years ago, then finished that project.  I would rather get paid to wash dishes than ever use iMovie again.

  • Mac Pro 2007 with Nvidia 8800GT screen redraw problems on Mac OS 10.5.2

I seem to be having a slight screen redraw problem. Such as when grabbing the browser window and moving up and down it seems the redraw can't keep up,also seems problematic when watching flash or other video online. It does it in the finder too for windows listings or in icon view there is a fluttering or flashing back and forth, kind of like a white super split second flash when dragging the window box smaller or larger not as bad as when making smaller. Hard to describe but my original Ge-force that I pulled was not having these characteristics. I figure that the drivers need tweaking. In windows I am not getting these results. I have newer boot camp installed as well as the leopard graphics update done so I am trying to see if others are having a slight problem or maybe it is me.
Also I make certain it is not heat related as I monitor that and it does not matter at what temp it is.

Here's another similar experience -- and my solution.
I bought a Quad-core 2.8GHz (8GB RAM) Mac Pro in May and got the "better" Nvidia 8800GT. I thought I was happy, but there were redraw issues after sleeping and a display "roughness" I found annoying. Upgrading to OSX 10.5.4 didn't help.
I found it to be mostly absent on startup, but sleeping the Mac would bring it on. I.e., after sleep, the relatiionship between the 8800GT would be different than before. when I logged out and in again, the problem woud vanish. No what I expect from a "superior" graphics card. I ascribed it to funky drivers from Apple.
The store I bought the Mac from offered to swap for my suggestion of an ATI HD 3870, so I went for it about a week ago.
This card is far smoother than the 8800GT and just as fast in rendering benchmerks for graphics. (I'm not a gamer.) I am a happy camper! There is no stuttering, oddball redraw, or jerkiness as there had been with the 8800. It's perfect! Never mind that it may be 5% slower for gamers, it feels faster for my use.
BUT NOTE: As I now see from reading several forums, I wasn't alone is getting a screaming-Mimi at first! The first 3870 ran at nearly full fan speed at power-up. The speed changed a little with resolution changes on my big Mitsubishi CRT monitor, and actually stopped when I switched to 1080x1920 @ 72Hz! Then the fan would start and quit, start and quit randomly -- convincing me it was defective.
I returned this RED-shrouded unit and the store replaced it, this time with (randomly) a BLUE-shrouded unit. (Slightly lower serial.)
Bottom Line: This replacement 3870 is quiet as a mouse! Fan runs near-silently at startup and after hours of regular use in a 75ºF room. I get the distinct feeling that a bunch of cards with wonky fan controllers were built, and some of us got 'em.
Bad News: The ATI HD 3870 does NOT support multiple refresh rates under Windows XP-SP2 booting the Mac Pro, with or without Boot Camp drivers installed. No version of the ATI drivers fixes this, and ATI does not officially support Boot Camp yet. You can choose a resolution okay, but you're stuck at 60Hz refresh -- a pain for those of us who hate 60Hz flicker. (I like 100Hz refresh.)

  • 8350i: Changing the font size results in screen redraw problems

    Hey everyone.
    BlackBerry 8350i
    v4.6.1.204 (3.0.0.73)
    BBAlpha Sans, size 8
When the screen redraws to account for a change in font or font size, there is a redraw problem that overwrites portions of the menu.  Steps to repro and some supporting dialogue from a 3rd party software developer are below.
Steps needed to observe the problem:
Go to Options -> Screen / Keyboard.
    Select Font size.
Roll up and down between the different available font sizes.
Observe that sections of the font size menu disappear and reappear as the "Quick brown fox" example text is redrawn.
I have always thought that menus should receive visual preference, meaning that anything redrawn in the background should not overwrite them.  The 8350i does not seem to honor this convention, however.  Instead, the sample text renders in front of portions of the font size menu list, making those portions of the menu disappear.
Case in point: AstraSync 3.0, just out of beta, uses some nice stylization for its main email presentation screen.  However, when you click the menu button, the menus are slowly devoured by the background text and eventually become invisible.  I reported this issue to AstraSync tech support and they have stated that this appears to be a bug in the 8350i, not their software:
James and others, Unfortunately the problems with the menu disappearing
appear to be a device issue and as such is not something that we are
    able to fix.

    http://forum.astrasync.com/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=649
This conversation occurred while the AstraSync software was in beta, and I have confirmed that the issue continues now that the software is out of beta.  Given the phone's own rendering issues within Screen/Keyboard, I think their claim, that this represents a bug in the phone itself, has some merit.  Any thoughts or advice on a workaround?  Assuming that this is truly a bug in the device software itself, will RIM please consider addressing it?
    Thanks,
    James

This problem is also evident in Opera Mini. A bit of googling revealed it was introduced in OS version 4.6.1.128. This is quite clearly a device bug and we would appreciate a response from RIM on the matter.
    Cheers

  • Late 2012 Mac mini screen redraw problem

I have just purchased a new MacMini, basic model, and am experiencing screen redraw trouble. I run the MM headless, it's used as a file server and CrashPlan backup host for friends and family, administered/ controlled by using Apple Remote Desktop running on my MBP. For some reason the screen does not display correctly - I have to run the cursor over the screen, a bit like Etch-a sketch, to get the display to refresh.
Any ideas what may be causing the problem? I use ARD at work to administer the office servers and have not had this problem before, I also use ARD at home to control other computers.

    Hello,
    Resolution
Move the mouse or trackpad cursor over the center area of the login window so you can see the user icons. Click on the icon of the user that you would like to login as, type in the user's password, and press Return.
If the login window is configured to show only the name and password fields, type in the user's name and password into the fields, and press Return (even if you cannot see the rest of the login window).
    Additional Information
This issue will not occur if the display is not sleeping when the account is logged out. Use the steps below to confirm that the account is not configured to log out automatically while the display is sleeping:
        1.    Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General.  Click the padlock to unlock the preference pane and enter your admin password. Click the Advanced button at the bottom, then see if the option "Log out after N minutes of inactivity" (where N is the number of minutes) is enabled.
        2.    Open System Preferences > Energy Saver and configure Display Sleep to occur after the account is logged out, by dragging the slider to a number of minutes that is greater than N was set to in the previous step.
Important: If automatic log out is not needed, disable "Log out after Nminutes of inactivity" in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General. This will also prevent the issue.

  • CS5 screen redraw problems

    Hi All
    I'm running CS5 on XP32SP3. 3GB RAM. ATI Radeon 5450 (512MB, OGL 3.2, Catalyst 10.5 drivers).
I am having problems with the screen not redrawing after deletion of layers, selections, hide/show selections and deletion of selections.
(Screen redraw is real time when adjusting opacity (etc) sliders, and panning large images is silky smooth).
I am working on an image with 20 grouped layers and it's getting VERY confusing when changes to layers do not appear on screen.  ;-(
(As a work around clicking select, cursor, appears to force a redraw, but it is a tad annoying to keep doing this).
Can I create a HotKey (Space Bar) to force a redraw??
Is there a fix for this problem?
I also have this same problem on my home system (Win7, nVidia 5700), so it does not appear to be either an XP or ATI driver issue.

    New observations.
Trying different Cache Levels and Cache Tile Size changes the behaviour of the problem. History states appears not to.
It's pretty random; increasing cache levels and decreasing cache levels (from default 4) makes things worse. At worst hiding/showing a layer can only be done by clicking selection, cursor, selection... even then the now visible level is often missing chunks (tile size?).
    I am not alone   http://forums.adobe.com/thread/631269?tstart=0
My home PC is not using OGL and has the same problem.
There is definitely a redraw problem in CS5.
Thanks to all who are trying to help...    ;-)

  • Premiere Elements 10 screen redraw problem

Been using PE 9 for a while and works fine. But, the PE 10 trial seems to be buggy. When I place something on the timeline, then try to move it, the program redraws the top half of the screen into the timeline, and you can no longer see the timeline. Makes the program useless. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, re-downloading the program. All my setting are correct. Don't want to buy PE 10 unless I can resolve this problem. • Manage Sites Dialog Box Screen Redraw Problem

Using Dreamweaver CS6.0.1 on Mac Mountain Lion 10.8.2. When I open the "Manage Sites" dialog box, certain parts of the box are not visible unless I wave or click my mouse on that portion of the screen. Really sick of this. Also text entry into design view in Dreamweaver is maddeningly slow. I've got a fast Mac Pro with an SSD and 48 GB of RAM. Seriously would like to find the answers to these problems.

I have Dreamweaver CS6 on a MacBook Air with 4GB of RAM running OS X 10.8.2, and don't experience the problems you relate. However, there are some people on Macs who have been experiencing problems with 100% CPU and slow typing. Apparently these problems have been fixed in the Creative Cloud 12.1 update. If you're not a Creative Cloud subscriber, a fix should be coming shortly. See http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1100065.

  • Screen redraw problems in Acrobat 8 Professional

I just recently installed Acrobat 8 Professional on an older machine that I have. It is running Windows XP Professional SP3, processor 2.4GHz with 512 RAM. It has only MS Office and Acrobat loaded on it. I can create a PDF document, but when I pull up the Properties menu, it has garbled text and you can see everything from the document showing through on the menu so you can't read the menu. Could this be a memory issue or is there something else that I need to check. Thanks.

I'm getting it like crazy. Scrolling on the Apple site and some others has debris all over the window, but I can scroll some, like CNN just fine. Apple Mail blows into chaos if I just move the window.
It's clearly screen drawing issues but it's making some software unusable.
Not a very happy camper here. I need to use this computer and that involves reading what's on screen.
Just updated to 10.7.2 this morning.
Now that I've written this, if I can just find the REAL Add Reply button among the several showing, maybe I can post it.

  • Screen redraw stair-stepping/artifacts

    Hi,
I have been a long time Photoshop user and am having screen redraw problems since I have purchased a new system. I did not have this problem on my Macbook Pro which was hooked up to the same monitor.
Problem is: When I open a file in CS5 (12.0) and move the image around screen Its not redrawing smoothly. There is some stair-stepping artifacting going on. Its not lagging....just creating some stair-stepping like artifacting.
If I open the same file in "Preview" (version 6.0) and recreate the same image movement there are no problems.
So I am suspecting not a monitor problem, but maybe a graphics card problem....??
Any one else experiencing something like this?
System is Mac OS mountain lion 8.0
Mac Pro 3.2 Quad core (5,1)
    Monitor NEC PA271W (W/spectraview)
    GPU is ATI Raedon 5770
Monitor to Mac connection is DVI to DVI

software update did not help...but turning "on" vertical sync did! It still doesn't look as smooth to me as it should, but its greatly improved. Maybe I'm just scrutinizing it too much now

  • Screen sharing redraw problem

I am seeing graphical redraw problems when I try screen sharing with another Mac 10.8 computer, Mac Mini mid 2011. For example, when switching menus, the old ones remain. This always worked just fine in Lion. I tried turning adaptive and scaling off and on, but no difference.

Don't know whether I found the problem, but I did manage to get Screen Sharing working reasonably again.
Things had gotten so bad that even mouse moves and keystrokes were getting mangled and delayed, so I decided to try a VNC client (Chicken of the VNC) to see whether things were better. I had to set the host machine to accept VNC connections, so you could say I "touched" the screen sharing panel in System Preferences. I also shut down the Screen Sharing app on the client side so I could use the VNC. The VNC worked OK but would not display the entre screen, so I quit. Then I restarted the Screen Sharing client, and--hey presto--it worked! Response to mouse & keyboard were back, and video was good enough to watch a video.
So, I guess folks could try (1) jiggling something in the Screen Sharing prefs on the host machine, and (2) restarting the Screen Sharing client.

  • Premiere Pro CC, Quadro 4000 and Screen Redraw bugs

Not sure if it's just the 7.1 update, but i think i started seeing it in the previous version.
When i start using transitions then my main UI screen redraw messes up. So for example pop a wipe onto some footage then the timeline bar doesn't move when playing and i cannot click the sequence footage elements. I can play in the monitor. If i guess where the close box is for the sequence and open the sequence again it redraws correctly.
I've updated the drivers to the latest versions and also confirmed on a different PC that the problem isn't there. So it's unique to my set up.
I'm running on Win 7 x64, 32GB. About the only recent change to my system was a 10Gbe card but i've duplicated the problem just with local drives.
In fact it's as simple as if i start up CC then click the project tab, media browser tab, info tab, effects tab the search box in the effects tab doesn't redraw fully.
Any ideas what could be causing this?
(I do have a decklink extreme in there but have got the output turned off at the moment - tried it on and off- same problem)
I really don't remember this happening in the past but it was the transitions that revealed it, and i don't normally use them.
    Help!
    cheers
    Paul

    Thanks for the update,
The question is how long for because i'm sure that my installation was fine, then stopped working. If you drag a transition onto the timeline does the time line still update, can you grab the timeline cursor and drag it back and forth.
We're not alone, there's another thread with what looks like the same issues
    cheers

  • Pixelated glitches and slow screen redraw

Mid 2010 27" iMac (iMac11,3) with Radeon 5750 (1GB) running Mavericks 10.9.1. AppleCare just expired in December 2013 (of course!). Graphics card has been replaced in 2012 via AppleCare. Entire LCD panel has been replaced Jan 2013 via AppleCare. And now another graphics-related problem is back.
The display goes black after logging in to an account after a couple minutes. And there's no way to bring it back other than a forced power off and reboot.
I boot into Safe Mode and the screen redraw is extremely slow and there are these repeating glitchy blocks (see attached images).
Any ideas? Do thse glitches look familiar to anyone? I created a new admin account and the problem exists there too, so I'm pretty sure it's not a bad user pref.

    Thanks for your reply.
I am using Logic 9.1.1. on Snow Leopard. Upon installing Logic 9 recently, I noticed that the seemless screen redraws ( from extreme close up to extreme zoom out) takes over five separate attempts. it's like there's only so much video power to do it one shot like I used to.
To be clear, let's say I'm very zoomed into a region editing an vocal comp track. Then I want to zoom out to see the whole project from start to finish. I click the playhead in the global tracks area. Then I push up and it shrinks the project to fit the screen. The problem is that it only goes so far before I have to release the mouse where it is and then try another run at it.
    Here's a self-answer:
My feeling is that Logic has made it a more exacting science of how to manipulate the zoom in and out with the playhead. I actually feel it's faster now, you just have to stay within certain limits and not take your mouse and go too far up into the shorcuts area like I was used to in Logic 8. You have to stay within the global tracks area and your horizontal movements will be very fast actually and very smooth.
    Happy music making

  • Screen redraw bug when panning in Loupe view at high magnification

I think I've found a bug in Lightroom.
Using the Loupe view at higher than 1:1 magnification and panning whilst zoomed seems to cause screen redraw artifacts. It is most noticable at high zoom (say 11:1) when panning diagonally. The edges being revealed draw incorrectly. Seems to only happen once the 1:1 preview rendering has been completed, initial panning whilst the preview is being rendered looks fine. Zooming out and back in redraws the screen correctly, but subsequent panning still causes artifacts.
I first thought it must be my graphics drivers, but have updated to the latest available driver (version 7.2 21 Feb 2007) for my ATI Radeon 9800 and the problem remains. I have also tried this on my laptop a Sony VAIO VGN-S3HP (with NVidia GeForce 6200 based graphics) with the same problem. Therefore as this happens on both a NVidia and an ATI card I can't blame my graphics drivers any more.
    Can anyone reproduce?
    Best regards,
    Andrew

I've just seen a similar problem on my DELL laptop. Anything at 2:1 or greater magification gets the jagged edges whilst panning up and down in loupe mode. This makes the compare mode to be worthless as the two images can't be compared as they each suffer different amounts of jaggies.
Windows XP, Intel Mobile 915GM/GMS, 910GML Express Chipset.
I'm going to raise a bug report.

  • 10.5.3 Update- Window redraw problems in Finder and all Apps

Hallo there. After installing the update on my MacBook Pro 2.4GHz I am getting irritating redraw problems in all Apps with scrolling possibilities incl. the Finder. Especially Safari. Triple stuttered lines make it impossible to read anything.
On top of that the permissions are cocked up. The System is telling me not to transfer an iWEB website to a USB stick cos I don't have the privileges. Virtual Sick just splattered over my screen.
This ultra expensive machine only has its justification because it is a tool and I want to WORK with it. Not long and this bean-can is flying out the window.
This is an ultimate pain. I wish the updates would work. It's just so unprofessional. So "Windows". I wish Atari was still building computers.
Is anyone out there that knows anything about this?
    Would appreciate any help.
    Thank you.

  • Screen redraw issues

    Hi everyone
My new Macbook appears to have screen redraw issues (as I've mentioned in other posts). It often does not redraw the screen quickly or smoothly. It may redraw the screen in bands from the top, or the Dock may come up in jerks. Also, the cursor often freezes, especially when switching from one app. to another, or after performing a function in an app (e.g. Save, or Delete in Finder). Messing around with the keyboard or trying another function often unfreezes the cursor again. It's frustrating.
I think it's probably a compatibility issue, since quite a few of the applications I transferred over from my iBook are not yet available as fat binaries ("universal" binaries). Yet they seem to work OK. I'll post about that separately.
If anyone else has experienced screen redraw issues, I'd be interested to hear about them. This machine should run much faster than my iBook, not much more slowly.

Thanks again, Shawn. I wasn't sure whether to post all the problems as one mess, or separately so people could search for them separately. I decided on separately, in case they weren't related, but mentioned the other bits in each post in case they were.
I myself searched under all these problems, but had little success. I don't know if that's an artefact of the Search or not. I suppose it depends on things like using "frozen cursor" or "freezing cursor". I certainly found more posts related to my problems when I read all the forum posts for MacBook Users. It took quite a while, but was more productive than searching. I'd rather not have to spend quite as much time on finding data, though.
    Thanks again.
