Screen resolution option only 800x600

I have a G5 Dual 2.3 and an Acer 1917A monitor. I used this monitor with no issue on a G4 Dual. Plugged it into the "new" G5 and the only screen resolution option I have is 800x600 (not high enough). I have not installed any software from acer (can't find it, and frankly don't know if I ever had any). Any ideas as to what I am missing?

What's the native resolution, 1280x1024?
(I can't find info on a 1917A)

See if the problem persists.
if not, it is a software problem in your account.
Might also download the ATI Display Panel, and see if resolution adjustment can be made there:

  • 24 inch iMac screen resolution options

I have a 24 inch iMac. The native 1920x1200 resolution is great for displaying large amounts of data, but is sometimes too small for my aging eyeballs to see comfortably. The next option is 1344x840 which is easier to see, though a bit grainy, but I lose huge amounts of displayed data on web pages and things like that. I'd love the option for 1680x1050 (like the native res on 20 inch iMacs) but it is not an option on my display preferences selection menu. Why is that resolution not an option on the menu? Can I get to that resolution another way?

    To SteveCG
I must be a conspiracy theorist. I've just bought a 20" iMac after many friends gave Macs such a great rap about their graphics etc. The 6 year-old 13" Dell Inspiron 4000 Laptop I'd just left produced much sharper screen images. Most of the work I do is just producing and reading text - reports and emails etc. I'm am SO annoyed that fonts are not sharp and clear on the 20" screen. Increasing the size (Command +) does not make any difference - the edges are still fussy.
I complained (fruitlessly) to Apple Support after I found the best resolution I could get was only 1680 x 1050. Was told that there was nothing Apple support could do to improve it and buying a better graphics card would not help since the maximum screen resolution was related to the composition of the screen structure.
And my theory? Apple will shortly launch a better higher resolution screen on the market and encourage us all to rush out and buy one.

  • Screen resolution options in Mini

I'm sorry to post a speculative question.
I'm planning to get a Mac mini shortly. I have assumed that the Minis have very flexible display options and I will able to set a screen resolution that matches a monitor's aspect ratio of 16:10 without distortion of loss of screen territory. Would this be right?
The background: I've just bought a low end 19" widescreen monitor in preparation for the Mini, thinking I can use it on my old G4 iBook in the meantime. The iBook doesn't have a wealth of display options (only 3), so I'm getting 1024x768 resolution on the external monitor which results either in an image stretched sideways or a band of unused monitor either side of the screen image. OK, but I want to make full use of the monitor with the Mini.

    Sure,
The Mini deals with the 16:10 aspect ratio quite well. You'll probably see small black horizontal bars when watching 16:9 aspect ratio movies, which is a good thing, I think, and better than stretching the movie to fill the 16:10 aspect ratio. Otherwise, windows and other stuff appear just fine.
Your low-end 19" monitor is probably a 1680 x 1050 resolution, like the Dell 20.1" 2005FPW (16:10) I'm currently using with my Mini is. And believe it or not, at that size and resolution, our monitors are of a higher resolution and pixel density than a 23" monitor at 1950 x 1080 (16:9), or a 24" monitor at 1950 x 1200 (16:10).
That is to say, that picture sharpness will appear better at the right distance, because the PPI and dot pitch is better, even though the resolution is stated as being lower on the smaller monitors.
Does that mean that smaller is better? Maybe for some, it is. But I'm currently waiting for a new and well-priced NEC at 23", 1950 x 1080 (16:9), which will probably begin shipping in a week or two.
Here's a link to a cool Display Dimensions Calculator that somebody pointed out to me, recently:
    http://thirdculture.com/joel/shumi/computer/hardware/ppicalc.html
So, try it out. You'll probably see how sharp a low-end, smaller monitor really is.
    Peace to you,

  • Screen resolution stuck on 800x600 after installing itunes 10

after i installed itunes 10 my screen resolution automatically changed to 800x600 when i restarted my computer. it used to be on 1024x768 and now it wont change back

After installing itunes 10.6, system does not connect to itunes, it kepps on saying "Accessing itunes store".
I'd start with the following document with that one:

  • Lost screen resolution option

Actually, this isn't a question about an Apple monitor, but it's the kind of thing contributors here seem to know about. Hope that's OK.
I've been happily using my G4 (1.25 Dual) with a Belinea 17" CRT (30 10 20) for some years, with successive versions of OSX. Just recently I opened 'Displays' in System Preferences and closed it, without altering anything, and the screen resolution immediately changed.
Now I can't change it back - evidently the original resolution is no longer shown in the drop down list. If anyone knows ANYTHING I can do to get it back again, I'd be eternally grateful, as this has ruined my Mac-using experience.
    Thanks,

Thanks to everyone who replied, I sorted it out in the end!

  • Feature Request: provide screen resolution options?

Firstly, thanks for the amazing browserlab, it's so useful.
However, it would be great if we could preview sites in different screen sizes too.
Is this feature likely to be added at any point?

    Hello,
I'd like to see more screen resolution settings too
Currently, 1024x768 is still a good percentage of visitors, but IMHO the sum of people with 1280+ is greater.
It also seems to me that your virtual machines sometimes renders a little less than 1024...
thank you for improving Browser Lab

  • Screen resolution changes automatically to 800x600 after hibernation - 945GM Express chipset - Solution

    Hi,
if you are using VISTA SP1 RC2 or the RTM version shipped last week with a 945GM Express video chipset you probably are having problems with the screen resolution dropping to 800x600 on resuming from sleep.
INTEL has posted a new version of the driver v15.7.3 on their website. This works fine on my Portage R300, should work on other machines too, even though this is a generic driver.
    Hope this helps!

    Hi Gery
    Thanks for the useful information.
I have noticed a similar issue with Vista running on my non-Toshiba notebook The graphic driver update helps definitely.

  • ThinkPad T500 Screen Resolution Issues

    Dear All,
Wonder if anybody can provide any advise on the following issue(s):
Just bought a T500 Centrino vpro, running on XP professional, 15" screen. Really happy with it, its fast and all. However, there seem to be only a few screen resolution options available. On my old Acer Travelmate, I used to have a 1024x600 which suited my myopia just fine. The closest setting to this one seems to be the 1024X768 but it is not great 'cos items appear a tad out of focus.
I understand the T500 i just bought was built to accommodate Vista (as a side note, a Vista Business tag with serial number can be found at the back of my laptop although the machine came with XP pro preinstalled..This leads me to my other question: What happened to my Vista?) and this perhaps explains the limited resolution options available and the fact that apart from the native setting all other resolutions available are not optimal.
    Many thanks in advance.

There are several methods to increase the font sizes on your screen:
    1) right click on desktop.
    2) select personalize
    3) select adjust font size (DPI) under the task list on the left
    4) select the larger font size that is available.
Sometimes there are fonts that are just too small to read on the web browser.
Hold down your Ctrl key and use the mouse scroll button to increase the font size.
Alternatively Press the blue Fn button on the keyboard and then press the Space bar.

  • Screen resolution switches while using Powerpoint & hyperlinks

    Hi.
I'm using Office 2011 on a Macbook Air. I use PPT to teach and my classrooms have integrated projectors (VGA connection). My PPT runs and displays well. However, I often put hyperlinks in my slides so I can quickly access webpages. When I click on a link from PPT, the PPT slide fades (as it should) and the browser opens, but the screen resolution falls to 800x600 and the web pages are displayed much too big. Any reason why clicking on an hyperlink in PPT switched my screen resolution? And any trick to avoid this?

    DvlFig,
Are you referring to the screen sizing of the actual Remote Desktop Window?  If so,
this page offers this solution to saving your screen settings for future Remote Desktop sessions.
How do I change Remote Desktop Connection settings?
You can change different settings for your remote connection, including the size of the remote PC's desktop, the audio, and the connection speed.
Open Remote Desktop Connection by swiping in from the right edge of the screen, tapping
Search (or if you're using a mouse, pointing to the upper-right corner of the screen, moving the mouse pointer down, and then clicking
Search), entering mstsc in the search box, and then tapping or clicking
    mstsc.
Enter the name of the PC you want to connect to.
Before connecting, tap or click Show Options, and then make the changes you want on the
    Display, Local Resources, Programs,
    Experience, and Advanced tabs.
If you want to save these settings for future connections, tap or click the
General tab, and then tap or click Save.
    Tap or click Connect.
    Hope this helps!

  • Screen Resolution Issue, Itunes? Vista?

    Hello!
Ok, so every time I open Itunes my screen resolution gets automatically switched to the lowest possible resolution. An itunes pop up keeps saying:
"For best results with itunes, use a screen resolution of at least 1024x768. You can change this setting in Display Settings".
Which doesn't make sense to me anyway because why would it be switched to low when its saying it needs to be higher?
I go into control panel and switch it back to a higher resolution only to have the same problem EVERY time I open itunes. I'm using vista but the pop ups are definitely from itunes. A second pop up message that shows up is:
"Itunes.exe has been set to run in compatibility mode for an older version of windows. For best results turn off compatibility mode for itunes before you open it."
So, I check under properties for itunes.exe and compatibility mode is NOT checked off. I can't figure out where to turn off compatibility. This issue and the pop ups only started after I ran itunes "as administrator" so vista would let me edit song information.
    Can anyone help me?
    Thanx

So I've answered my own question. In the properties tab of itunes.exe I went into Settings for all Users and unchecked the screen resolution option. Relatively simple, but it proved exceedingly frustrating. I guess in Vista you just have to uncheck everything twice. I still can't get rid of the compatibility mode message, but that was the least of my worries.

  • Minimum Screen Resolution for Premiere Pro CS3

I want to be able to run the package on my laptop when out and about, but the
screen resolution is only 1024 x 768. Can anyone tell me whether it will run under said resolution, but with a crowded screen or will it simply not work. I have not yet bought the product yet, and this could be a deciding factor.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Maurice

That's what I am running and it has been awesome over the last two days with the only exception being a "Desktop Display Mode has been reset because the video card returned an error." I thought I had this problem licked until I got it again this afternoon and now it won't go away.

  • Anyone experiencing screen resolution problems after latest Mavericks Update?

Anyone got a blurred monitor after the latest Mavericks Update?
I am running  Mavericks 10.9.2 on a Mini Mac with a Logic TV/Monitor. Since the latest Mavericks update I no longer have the option in settings to scale to 1600 x900. Since this gives the best picture on my monitor I now have either a blurred screen with large text or a blurred screen with very tiny text. No other options that give a 'normal' display seem available now, after allowing the 'Update'. The update claims to be addressing faults on the MacBook display, which it may well do, but it has also apparently screwed up Mac Mini screen resolution Options for some of us.
I have reverted back to 10.9.2 and turned off automatic updates, but I can't stay that way indefinitely.
I've tried to find an e-mail address or phone number to log my complaint to Apple but to no avail. (I guess they would otherwise be inundated with customer complaints so keep that kind of information under wrapps). Anyone got any ideas?

I'm not having any problems with dual DVI connected Samsung 21.5" monitors in 10.9.3
What connection (adapter, cable, etc.) are you using..?

  • Screen Resolution Problem (Max. Resolution of only 1024x768)

    Hello,
I just upgraded my T61 laptop from Windows XP to Windows 7, Everything was fine at first. But one day when I turned on my laptop, I found out that the screen resolution was wrong. It was only 1024x768 (not wide screen). As a result, the screen was on the left, leaving a thick black bar on the right. The given resolutions which I could choose are only 800x600 and 1024x768, no wide screen options. Tried nvidia control panel, it was still the same. Tried to connect to an external monitor (16:9 wide screen), the resolution was, however, perfect (fit the external monitor).
I already have the newest display driver (nvidia Quadro NVS 140m - downloaded from Lenovo). I even reinstalled the driver and installed the monitor driver provided by Lenovo, but the problem still exists.
By the way, after I encountered this problem, when I turn on the laptop, there is no more screen showing the ThinkVantage and the Intel logo. There is also no screen for "Starting Windows". It will straight away enter windows logon screen. It means, I have no way to enter BIOS or the recovery tools by pressing the ThinkVantage button at startup. (I cannot see anything!)
    Anyone can please help me?
    Thanks!

    ahboy0207, welcome to the forum,
you need to install the monitot inf file from here. Scroll down the page for installation instructions.
As you have installed another OS on your system you will have changed the Master Boot Record, (MBR), which contains the information allowing the ThinkVantage button to work at boot. If you left the recovery partition intact, i.e. didn't format it, it may be possible to repair the MBR in order that you can access it. However, the recovery partition will have the original XP image on it and not your W7.
You can enter BIOS by pressing F1 at boot.
    Hope this helps
