Screen resolution reset on wake up

screen resolution reset on wake up
I have a macbook Pro (13 inch, Mid 2010, Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, memory 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3) running Yosemite OS X 10.10.2 (14C1514) connected to a high resolution display (2560x1440 BenQ BL2710) via a MDP2DVID adapter and a dual link DVI cable. Just sometimes (apparently randomly about once in 20 occasions) when I wake up the computer it turns both screens off for a second then turns them on again with the resolution reset to a low level on the built-in screen, and the external display is reduced to a small window in the centre. Sleeping and waking the computer usually brings it back to normal but with many of my open windows resized to a small level.
Does anyone know how this could be corrected?
Thanks
John Nixon

  • VNC - Screen Resolution Problem on Wake from Sleep

My question: When it either wakes from sleep or cold boots (NOT on restart for some reason), Mac OS X seems to be confused on the previous resolution of my screen. On wake or cold boot, my main screen SOMETIMES gets set for 800x600 at 56 Hz, according to the display preference pane. I normally run at 1152x870 at 75 Hz. In the past, I have just used the "Detect Displays" command from the display preference pane. This always fixes the screen resolution and restores it to the correct setting.
This would not be a problem if I didn't have to run VNC. These screen res changes are crashing my VNC server. Here's what I do. I run a VNC server (OSXvnc is the name). I go away. Machine goes to sleep. From machine 'x' I send a wake-on-wan packet (a pain in the butt to figure out for me, BTW). My VNC Machine wakes up. I know it's awake, because I can login to it from remote, using SSH. But the screen res problem happened, and OSXvnc shuts down and won't reinitialize automatically. It says "Screen Resolution Changed - Server Reinitialized", and the "Start Server" button is waiting to be pressed. Of course, this cripples my ability to use VNC.
For what it's worth, this problem has happened with two different video cards. Granted, the first card was an ATI Radeon 9000 with 64 MB or VRAM and the second card is the same model with 128 MB VRAM. It's virtually the same card, but still, that's two different cards.
I have 2 CRT displays connected thru adapters (DVI-VGA and ADC-VGA) to the ATI. I'm running all the latest updates for Panther, according to Software Update. This problem has been with me since 10.2.3. I lived with it until it started really getting in the way (VNC crippling & such).
    Any thoughts? -- iJW
    G4 Dual 1 GHz MDD (no FW 800)   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

One other item I just discovered. It seems that whether or not my monitors are powered on has something to do with it. When my monitors are on, the problem doesn't happen.
I like turning them off to save electricity. If I'm using the computer remotely, I already have a monitor. I don't need one powering up at my home that no one's looking at anyway. So the question still stands...

  • Windows Does Not Remember Screen Resolution after restart

    Hi Everyone,
I have a strange problem with Windows 8.1 Pro
My screen resolution resets to 800 x 600 everytime i restart my PC, and I will have to set my resolution again everytime I start my PC.
    Any idea?
    Cheers

    Hi Nelson,
Please check the display adapters on Device Manager.
It may be caused by your graphics driver.
I suggest you reinstall the latest graphics driver to check the result.

Is there any actionlistener or something else to catch that action(i.e when changing the screen resolution).there is addPropertyChangeListener in toolkit but i need code in detail. ...reply urgent

1.) if its that urgent what about paying sun for support?
    2.) don't cross-post or double post.

  • How do I stop Quicktime from trying to reset screen resolution?

I am running an AVID Media Composer video editing system on a WIN2000 platform, and just upgradeded to Quicktime 7.1 from 6 so I could run quicktime Pro.
Now every time I try to play a file in quicktime the screen flickers on and off as quicktime attempts to reset the screen resolution. Very annoying! If AVID is also running this causes AVID to crash (tough when you're using AVID to export a QT file!) Quicktime 6 never did this.
Is there a setting in Quicktime to stop this? Or alternately, can I switch back to a pro version of Quicktime 6?
    Thanks.

    Hey narfee,
I found an article that can goes over how to unregister your computer from syncing.
MobileMe Sync: About registering and unregistering computers
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1074
It depends on what type of computer you're using, but I pasted the relevant steps below:
    Unregister a computer from syncing
If you no longer want a computer to sync with MobileMe, you can unregister the computer from syncing. You can unregister any computer that is registered for syncing from any other computer with Mac OS X v10.4.11, v10.5.8,  v10.6.x, OS X Lion, Windows XP, or Windows Vista, as long as you know your member name and password.
Unregistering a computer from syncing does not delete any data.
To unregister a computer from syncing:
    Mac OS X v10.4.11
    Open System Preferences
    Click .Mac
    Click Advanced
Select the Computer you wish to unregister
    Click Unregister
    Mac OS X v10.5.8, v10.6.x, OS X Lion
    Open System Preferences
    Click MobileMe
    Click Sync
    Click Advanced
Select the Computer you wish to unregister
    Click Unregister
Note: In Mac OS X v10.5.8, if you unregister all computers you may be prompted to delete unwanted sync data. If you are no longer syncing with MobileMe, you can delete the unused sync data from the MobileMe servers.
    Windows XP or Vista
    Open Control Panel
    Click MobileMe Preferences
    Click Sync
    Click Advanced
Select the Computer you wish to unregister
    Click Unregister
    Cheers,
    David

    Hi,
When you set your monitor to a screen resolution that it won't support, the screen will go black for a few seconds while the monitor reverts back to the original resolution.
Regarding screen resolution, we may follow the below two articles to change it:
    Change your screen resolution
Getting the best display on your monitor
    Follow the steps below:
    1. Open Screen Resolution by clicking the Start button, clicking
Control Panel, and then, under Appearance and Personalization, clicking Adjust screen resolution.
2.Click the drop-down list next to Resolution. Check for the resolution marked (recommended). This is your LCD monitor's native resolution—usually the highest resolution your monitor can support.
And if the monitor is LCD monitor, The monitor's  manufacturer or reseller should also be able to tell you the native resolution for your LCD monitor.  Or we may check the monitor's manual to adjust.
    Best regards

  • Unable to retain screen resolution on boot/reset

    Hello,
I have an external LCD connected to my mini, which has worked very well for the past few months. However, now the screen resolution that I use (1280x1024) is not applied on boot, and something along the lines of 640x480 is used (I can only judge this from the large size of the login prompt).
I can get the proper resolution by putting the system to sleep at the login screen. When I log in at the low resolution, my screen goes off to display 'resolution no supported' message. Again, I can bring back the proper resolution in this state by putting the system to sleep.
This situation is recent. The last major change before this problem, was upgrading to 10.5.4 form 10.5.3. Any help in resolving this annoying issue would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, darthvinyll.
It sounds like possibly the preferences file(s) for displays has become corrupted on the mini. Probably the best thing to do at this point will be to trash the preferences file(s) associated with displays. Starting from the top level in the file system, meaning starting from the hard disk's icon within the Finder, in /Library/Preferences there should be a file labeled com.apple.windowserver.plist. Throw it in the trash. Also, for however many user accounts are on the mini, there should be files in /Users/name/Library/Preferences/ByHost that are named com.apple.windowserver.xxxxxxx.plist where xxxxxx is a random string of letters and numbers and where name is the name on the account. Throw all of those files in the trash as well, then restart the mini.
When OS X restarts and finds those files missing from their expected location, it will generate fresh copies with factory default values. That should give you a fresh start with the monitor. Good luck.

  • [SOLVED] How to reset screen resolution?

    Hello,
I am new to Linux and have been installing Arch Linux closely following the beginner's guide.  However, when I got to Step 3: Update system, I turned the system off for the evening and when I restarted this morning, my screen resolution has changed and I cannot see the first few characters of the command line and the bottom line is not visible at all.  At that point I have to switch to another console (Alt F2) so I can see what I'm typing.  I changed the vga=773 to 769 and 771 in /boot/grub/menu.lst, but it doesn't fix the problem.
How can I get the screen resolution lowered so I can see my command line?  This is my HTPC, so I don't want to mess with the screen positioning and get that out of whack for the other functions it provides.
    Thanks,
    Ted

    Thanks both for the replies.
I should have mentioned that I am connected to my Samsung 42" TV via HDMI/DVI, not VGA.  Neither of my video cards have a VGA connector, only DVI.  So I don't have an Auto function for that mode, and looking through the menus, I cannot find a screen position function, only mode a selection (16:9, 4:3, etc) which do not help.  Even setting it at 4:3 leaves the image clipped so that I cannot see the extremities of the screen that is being produced.  When I first boot up, it is in a low resolution that is 100% viewable, but after all the daemons get loaded up and before I am prompted for a login, the resolution changes to a higher setting and I loose the edges.  Shouldn't there be a way to force it to a lower resolution, like when it first starts up?
This is making it extremely difficult to enter the commands I need to set up Arch on this PC.

  • Itunes 11 keeps changing my screen resolution

I too am an itunes 11 sufferer!    Everytime I run it, it alters my screen resolution - I'd happily upgrade to the older, better, bug-free version that I was running before, but am afraid i might lose my library of music.
In trying to find a solution online i can't believe the number of issues with Itunes 11 that have cropped up. Does Apple really despise its customers so much  and hold them in such low regard that they could bring out such a flawed piece of software?
Does anyone have a solution to having to reset the screen resolution everytime I use iTunes?
    Thanks,

You can resize any window by grabbing (click-hold) the three little lines in the bottom right corner and move it up or down, right or left.
    Is this what you mean?
BTW... the resolution of 1280 x 800 is what you would normally set your screen to.

  • Screen Resolution in Mavericks

    Please help?

I was having issues with Maverick. The problems I had were video related on the Macbook Pro. I just did a PRAM reset. Try it.

    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
After resetting NVRAM or PRAM, you may need to reconfigure your settings for speaker volume, screen resolution, startup disk selection, and time zone information. If issues persist, your Mac's logic board battery (not a portable Mac's rechargeable battery) may need to be replaced. The logic board battery helps retain NVRAM/PRAM settings when your computer is shut down. You can take your Mac to a Mac Genius or Apple Authorized Service Provider to replace the battery on the logic board.
    Resetting NVRAM in Open Firmware
If your computer is Open Firmware-based and you are unable to reset NVRAM as described above, you may alternatively reset the NVRAM and Open Firmware settings using the steps in the Solution section of Message “To continue booting, type 'mac-boot' and press return”.
In some cases, an Open Firmware-based computer may not respond to the keyboard commands noted above, and may not allow starting up into Open Firmware by pressing and holding the Command, Option, O, and F keys during startup.  If you are unable to get to an Open Firmware prompt (and your Mac supports doing so), try holding the power button held down continuously during start up.

  • My AT&T Yahoo email gives me an error message saying that my screen resolution is too low, but it is at 1600 x 900. This only happens in Firefox, not in IE.

When I try to use Firefox to access my ATT.NET account I get an error message about my screen resolution being to low to support the site.My resolution is not low its at the highest available. I also use IE9 and do not have this problem. I am running Windows 7 and Firefox 15.0.1. This has been an ongoing problem. I am using a Toshiba laptop 15.6 screen with 4GB RAM. I see other complaints about this specific problem but have yet to find a solution. Thanks for your help.

Please see added comments on the question. Its not a zoom issue its all about the new ATT design email and Firefox, I agree with Noah there a bug between the old and the new and firefox only.
    UPDATE:
I stand corrected. I went back in again and did the reset zoom and it appears to eliminate the error. Problem solved but I am not sure why I never set up zoom and didn't have the problem on any other site. Will it need to be done each and every time I go into that page or is it now corrected?

  • Yahoo is giving screen resolution error for my Sony Vaio laptop at 1600 x 900

My laptop display had no screen resolution problem before upgrading to 3.6.10. The error states I should set to 1024 x 768 pixel resolution. This is less than that I already have. I don't understand why this occurs.

  • Facebook screen resolution changes automatically everytime on Mozilla Firefox 4. Other websites opens fine.

I have recently updated to Firefox 4. I am having many problems with this version.
I am unable to use Facebook properly. The Facebook screen resolution changes every time automatically. The screen resolution gets very big.
When I open the FB site the resolution will be fine as soon I open another tab to check other website and roll back to the FB tab the screen resolution gets big and can't get back to normal view.
I have to close the FB tab and open a new tab to put the FB URL to use it. When I try to view other tabs and then open the FB tab the screen resolution is changed.
I have problem with only FB on Firefox 4, other websites are working fine.
I also tried opening FB on IE8 and Chrome. Their the site is opening normal. Have no issues with their browsers. I spotted it to be a problem with Firefox 4 and also the IDM (Internet Download Manager) doesn't work on the FF4 where it used to work on the earlier version of FF.
Do something about the IDM integration with FF4 to download FLV,MP4 videos from YouTube and other websites.
There is no "Go back to multiple pages" button in a FF4 tab. It only allows us to go back to the previous page. If I have open 10 pages in a single tab then I have to click the back button 10 TIMES to open the last (10th page) but in the previous FF3 there is a facility to view all the pages in a drop down which the current version of FF4 doesn't have :-( I am using Windows XP 2 Professional 32-bit and owner of the computer.
Please fix the issues asap else I have to move back to the earlier version or have to shift to some other browser :
