Screen Saver Activates every 15-20 min

The screen saver has been activating every 15-20 WHILE I'M USING the machine.  Let me be clear, the screen saver seems to be activating itself WHILE i'm using the keyboard or mouse.
It's  not specifically happening on my hot corner...
I do have a hot corner set for the screen saver, but the mouse isn't anywhere near them.
It is set to come on if the computer is inactive for 15 minutes, however, the issue is occurring when i'm ACTIVELY using the computer.
Needless to say, this is quite annoying.   Overall, this has been the MOST BUGGY install of a Mac OS I've ever encountered. But, we have a new delivery method and a new OS at the same time... I'm flexible... I just want to know it WILL BE FIXED.   thanks! pete

From my thread about the same issue:
AgileBits, makers of 1Password reports: "The general class of application that provides any kind of video drivers for screen sharing, supports remote devices or computers as “monitors”, etc. has been identified as needing to either be updated for Lion, or temporarily removed from your system if the software vendor hasn’t yet gotten a compatible update ready."
It appears to be the result of specific apps, including AirDisplay, LaunchBar, and DisplayPad.  I just uninstalled AirDisplay (via the uninstall script) and rebooted and the screensaver problem has completely been fixed.  Thank goodness.
A few other posters confirmed it to be an AirDisplay issue, and I have AirDisplay on my system so I am assuming that was my problem as well.

  • Screen Saver activates even when disabled

OK, this is not a huge deal, I'm just annoyed that my computer doesn't do what I tell it to. I'm not sure if this issue is specific to the mbp or is an issue with OS X. I am running 10.5.1 on a newer 17" mbp. I set screen saver to "Never," but it activates anyway. The worst part of it is that if I also set the display to "sleep when it is inactive for: x mins," and the screen saver activates afterwards, the display will wake and not sleep again. This forces me to set the display to sleep after a longer period than I normally would. Does anyone have a solution to this issue? Does anyone have a similar problem? Thanks, in advance, for any help.

    Howdy...
I have this same problem. I can be typing away and my screen saver will activate by itself. Very annoying.
Any ideas on how to solve this?
    Thanks!
    Best,
    Ben

  • 10.7 freezes whenever screen saver activates!!

Installed Lion. Upgraded all 30,000 of my photos as per screen prompts. Now unable to use my Mac ANY time screen saver activates. It freezes, hangs, crashes. NEVER had any of these problems with 10.6 and, because I've "upgraded" my entire iPhoto Library (as per screen prompts) I am STUCK with this new OS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How can I "de-upgrade" my iPhoto library so I can revert to a system that functions??????
This is ONE lion that should have been kept in its cage.

    Select another screensaver.

  • Every time my MacBook Pro goes to sleep or the screen saver activates, it freezes and I must force a reboot.

This just started happening randomly a couple months ago.  Now it happens on every sleep or screen saver instance.  I cannot trace it to a specific OSX update.  I have gone as far as a full OSX recovery and restoration of Time Machine backup.  Where can I look to get to the bottom of this?

  • System Preferences- Desktop/Screen saver- crash EVERY TIME

    Hi-
I have a brand new iMAc 24" with Leopard and all software is up to date via update as of 12 hours ago (10.5.1 etc). I have office 2004 and photoshop/illustrator but NO other software loaded. The computer is now 7 days old. Yesterday I used system preferences to change my desktop picture to something from my iPhoto library, as per normal with 10.5.1 I got one picture up and then went to change it and now EVERY TIME I try to change anything in the desktop/screen saver system preferences the application dies. I can get the desktop/screen saver page to open but as soon as I click any conceivable option on that window the system preferences application dies. I have sent about 7 crash reports to apple and see that others are describing similar (not identical) problems. Is apple going to fix this? I DID not install leopard on this computer, its BRAND NEW. The only thing I have done is to update whatever apple told me was available. HELP...

My computer was a month old when I installed Leopard (which turned out to be an adventure....), and once I finally got a proper install one of the features I explored was Desktop and Screensaver, specifically I tried the new mosaic option in the Screensaver for pictures, it seemed to work. The 10.5.1 update came out, a bit later I tried that Screensaver option again and not only did it not work, but it crashed System Prefs. I ended up trashing every plist and cache file having to do with System Prefs, Screensaver, and iphotomosaic in my home ~/Library folder. Oh, and in searching for them they managed to crash the Finder too. So take a look thru ~/Library, especially Preferences, be sure to also look in the ByHost folder, and you might also check the Caches folder. Remove all files you can find that have to do with System Prefs, Screensaver, and Desktop. Once I did that all was fine again with my System Prefs. The mosaic option even started working again.

  • Screen Saver activates when it shouldn't

I have noticed that since upgrading to 10.6, that my screen saver auto-activates despite being set to not do so. Is anyone else noticing this?

No. I was in my home office, by myself, with the doors shut. Went looking for the AppleTV remote just in case one of my kids was playing with it. It was still on a high shelf, where I keep it out of their reach. Strange...

  • Radio stops playing when screen saver activates

Tried changing screen saver. Open to other options to try. Don't know why a purely visual screen saver would mess with iTunes radio. Any suggestions?

Seriously. Firefox has been my favorite browser for a while now, but Firefox 4 seems buggy since I downloaded it this morning. If Pandora doesn't work with Firefox 4 I'll have to revert back to 3.6...but what a PAIN IN MY ASS! If this is the future of Firefox...it doesn't look good.
Thanks for letting me rant here...I already started using Chrome, but there are a few things about Chrome that annoy me to no end...so can't see myself using that one either. Maybe time to check out an up and coming browser.
Anyway, I'm pissed!!! Just wasted my entire morning trying to figure out what to do about something I shouldn't even have to think about!

  • How is Screen Saver Supposed to Work?

Every time I bring Leopard out of screen saver my browser has closed and has to be restarted. Is this normal for MAC's or is there something I can do to stop this? I verified the display & HD are both set to never shut down. I also looked in power options and still nothing there.
It really looks like it is restarting more than just going to screen saver. In fact now that I think about it the screen saver is gone and it just displays all the users on the machine.
    TIA,
    Brian

Do you have the Screen Saver Hot Corners enabled? If not, go to System Preferences/ Expose' & Spaces...in the *Active Screen Corners* section, with the lower left drop-down button, choose "Start Screen Saver", and with the lower right drop-down button choose "Disable Screen Saver". This way you can start and disable it whenever you wish.
Now with your browser open, manually start the Screen Saver for a few seconds, (move the mouse pointer to the far left lowest corner), now stop the Screen Saver w/mouse or keyboard.
Did the Screen Saver activate or did the users list appear? Is you browser still open?
Does the same problem exist for the other users or from a "Guest" account?
    Post back results.

  • Screen saver keeps ending.

I'm using Hot Corners to activate my screen saver. Every time I do this 10 seconds or so later it goes back to the desk top on its own, what's up?

Check to see if it's your mouse. There may be some slight vibration causing your mouse to register movement. Move to your hot corner and once your screensaver comes on, unplug your mouse. Be careful not to move the mouse while doing this.
If the screensaver still deactivates then there may be some process that's running which disables your screensaver. If that's the case, take a peek at your Login Items in your Account settings under System Preferences.

  • MBP to TV using a cable - TV screen greys out after 10-15 mins

Hi there, I am looking for some assistance to solve the following issue that I cannot seem to resolve,
I have my Macbook Pro (OS 10.8.5) hooked up to my 42' Philips TV (Model 42PFL560AH) using Belkin Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable. I then go to displays settings on my Mac and mirror displays and I then have audio and video on the TV and everything is working fine.
The problem I have is if I stream video from the web, the TV screen  'greys out' every 10-15 mins or so and I then have to go to my display settings on my Macbook Pro and change the refresh rate. I change between PAL & NTSC or visa versa and I am then good for another 10-15mins.
I do not know if this problem is Mac or TV model related.
Any help or suggestion is appreciated as this is doing my head in.
    Regards,
    Celtictiger

Soundls like it is working. Try dragging a window on the MBP to the edge of the screen and see if it appears on the TV.
There are two ways to set up the TV one is to mirror the MBP display and the other is to be an extension of the MBP's screen.
You change the settings in System Preference->Display

  • Screen Saver not working & Phone Restarting unexpe...

    Hi,
Never expected this problem on my Nokia 701 after updating to nokia belle fp1. My phone restarts unexpectedly even though i m not using it and also while using some applications. Also my screen saver does not work whatever i do the screen saver just doesnt come i dont know whats the problem as i also tried to reinstall the belle fp1 on my phone through nokia suite and still the issue remained the same.
. the issue looks small but its very frustrating that the battery goes down because of no screen saver and every time reboot without any reason.
I request nokia to go through this message and look into this issue and release a bug fix for this issue.
    Moderators notes: Inaccurate information removed.

Don't call me crazy but...last night I activated a hot corner to put display to sleep, no screen saver, nothing, just off.  This morning, a minute ago, I checked the display and it's fine again.  No shadows, as if the "memory or imprint" of the images were cooled off and erased.  The display is clear again!
Not crazy at all, it's what I would expect. LCD screens can experience a temporary image persistence, if an image remains static for a very long time, but it is not a permanent effect. Letting the screen rest can help eliminate the persistent image, and if that doesn't, you can get rid of it by displaying a white full-screen image for a while with the brightness turned down to low.

As to why your screensaver quit working, I don't know.

  • Screen Saver On When Logged out

    Hi, all,
We have 4 iMacs at work that are bound to the domain via AD. I've configured them such that when a student is logged on, if 15 minutes of idle time has passed, the Shell screen saver will turn on. All four are doing this correctly.
However, one of the iMacs turns on the Shell screensaver when a user is logged out of the computer. The other 3 are not turning on the Shell screen saver when a student is logged out -- which is what I want.
I have configured the iMacs and have customized the default profile, English.lproj file, and backed up the original. I use the customized profile for students.
Suggestions on why this is happening? Thnx in advance.

From my experience, I don't believe that you can activate the screen saver from the login window. If you don't have external devices that prevent it, the Mac eventually goes to sleep. There seem to be few work around options.
In the Accounts System Preferences, under Login Options, you can choose to have the Restart, Shutdown and Sleep buttons available in the login window. Then instruct everyone to Sleep the Mac when they log out.
If you prefer the Screen Saver, the other option is to go to the Security System Preferences and use Require password to wake this computer from sleep or screensaver. Then in the Desktop and Screen Saver Preferences under Screen Saver set up a hotcorner(s) which imediately activates the Screen Saver when the mouse is rolled to that corner(s). Then leave the Mac signed into an account and have folks always activate the Screen Saver when the Mac is idle. You can reinforce that by setting the Screen Saver to self activate after a very short period. But having to enter a password gets old to some folks if the Screen Saver activates too quickly, too often. You don't mention your setting, whether these are family accounts or a work environment. Security has its importance in both settings!
I don't have multiple accounts on my Mac, so I can't test whether those work arounds need to be set in each individual account or just the Admin Account.

  • Screen Saver does not use selected Screen Saver when activated

Screen Saver does not use selected Screen Saver when activated. After "Start screen saver" elapse time has been reached, a blank black full screen is displayed. I can activate the selected screen saver by using the hot corners function. Any help with this matter will be greatfully received.

    Hi again sassey,
You're assuming correctly. Simply change the settings so that your screen saver activates before the sleep settings.
    Hope this solves your problem...

  • 5.0 Screen Saver crash

When I try and play a song, off my computer, on my Apple TV it'll stop as soon as the screen saver activates. If I press backup it says connection error. I've turned off Screen Saver whilst music is playing and that's fixed it.
    Is it just me?

It doesn't do that for me. Try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds, or resetting it using the reset option under general.

  • My screen saver preferences CRASHES!

    So, this is pretty simple.
I don't have a way to change my desktop background nor my screen saver, cause every time i try to do that. the desktop/screen saver window CRASHES!...
I tried restarting, I already report the issue with apple... but i don't know what i can do!... I mean, there's a way to fix or to restore that specific part of the OS?
or, hmmm... i don't know!... I'm very confused!...
Some other details: I have the "iTunes artwork" screen saver, (i don't know why) but that may be the cause of the crash... maybe it doesn't find a file or a specification...
    THANKS A LOT! =D

Hi, abrahamca. Welcome to the Discussions.
You wrote: "I don't have a way to change my desktop background nor my screen saver, cause every time i try to do that. the desktop/screen saver window CRASHES!..."I presume you mean that when you attempt to select the "Desktop & Screen Saver" preference pane in System Preferences, this results in System Preferences quitting unexpectedly.
    If so, try the following:
    1. Quit (Command-Q) System Preferences if it is open.
    2. Trash the following two files in your Home > Library > Preferences folder:
    • com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    • com.apple.desktop.plist
    3. Trash the following files in your Home > Library > Preferences > ByHost folder:
    (a) com.apple.systempreferences.xxx.plist
    (b) com.apple.screensaver.xxx.plist
    (c) com.apple.screensaver.screensaver_name.xxx.plist
where• xxx is an alphanumeric string, and
    • screensaver_name is the name of a screen saver you have used.Whether preferences files of the type shown in (c) exist depends upon the screen saver and if you have changed its options, if any.
    4. Open your Home > Library > Caches folder, then trash the following two files therein:
    • com.apple.preferencepanes.cache
    • com.apple.preferencepanes.searchindexcache
    5. Empty the Trash.
    6. Launch System Preferences and see if all is well. If so, reset Desktop & Screen Saver preferences accordingly.
Note that some of the information above is from the "System Preferences" chapter of my book, Troubleshooting Mac® OS X, Tiger Edition.
    Good luck!
