Screen Saver apps?

is there anyway to have the time and or email, txt, missed call notification displayed on the screen when one arrives?  Kind of like the 800w has?  That way one doesn't have to turn the phone on all the time to see if an message has arrived & been missed?
Post relates to: Treo 800w (Sprint)

Check out your System Prefs -> Security -> General settings.
You may have one of the options selected that requires you to type your password in when the systems goes to sleep or the screen saver kicks in.

Try to delete the Desktop settings file. First, open Finder, select Go menu > Go to Folder, and type ~/Library/Preferences. Then, delete "com.apple.desktop.plist" and "com.apple.systempreferences.plist", and restart. Finally, you should be able to go to Desktop and Screen Saver on System Preferences

  • Any sort of screen saver app?

I have the iphone 3g and am an avid golfer. I have the Golf Logix golf gps on my iphone (for yardages, etc). And they recommend leaving the phone on and dimming the screen while you play so it doesnt have to recalculate every time you go into the app.
I'm wondering if theres any way to have the screen go dim or just the screen itself shut off during the inbetween time usage instead of locking it with the top button. During a round of golf the battery goes dead leaving it on the whole time. Even if I dim the screen below half and turn auto brightness off.
I don't know if theres a way to do it through the settings but just curious if anyone knows of an app that would do it like a computer screen where you just touch it and it comes back. Sort of like when its dimming before the screen locks.

There is no screen saver option for the phone. An app is either on or the phone is asleep.

  • My macbook pro keeps terminating the screen saver app!! Help plz!

basically what happened the first time it crashed is this. i went into the screensaver settings and switched to the itunes art work screen saver. then i opened up the setting button. i switch the number of rows to 2. as soon as i moved the slider down to 2 rows, it closed out of it and i got that "application quit unexpectedly" window.
However now, when ever i open up the screen saver and desktop icon in system preferences, it opens up to the desktop tab, and then i go to the screen saver tab and it is still working, but then i click on itunes art work screen saver and it quits again. so i hit the reopen button on the error window and it takes me back to system preferences. i then click on desktop and screen saver icon and it once again crashes. do it again and it crashes again. then the third time it opens up ok, but whenever i go to itunes artwork, it crashes again and i have to go through the 2 crash cycle again.
Please help me if you can. the only thing i did tonight was update my MBP firmware to 1.0.1 and downloaded an aqua teen screen saver which i didn't even install cause it didn''t look like something that i could run. I just deleted.
please help if you know anything about this kind of problem.

Ok i managed to figure out a way to keep it from crashing all of the time. i go into User/Library/Preferences/ByHost and delete com.apple.screensaver.itunes.xxxxxxxxxxxx.plist. this help me so that i am able to open up the screensaver window and even select itunes artwork from the list of screen savers. this works fine because it seems to restore the default setting for this screen saver. But if i open the options screen and try to set it to 2 rows, then it will go right back to crashing again.
Can somebody please help me out with this 2 row problem? i'd greatly appreciate it.

  • ITunes artwork lost to Screen Saver

Since updating to Mac OS 10.5.7 and iTunes 8.2 (and 8.2.1) on my Power PC G5, the Screen Saver app can no longer find or display the iTunes artwork. It says not artwork can be found, even though there is tons of artwork in my library - - and I see them as I play songs in iTunes.
Anyone have a fix for this - ?

Further info ... it appears to be working when see the small window demo within the System Prefs app, but when quitting out it does not work on the full screen.

  • Picture Screen Saver to show iPhoto's caption and date?

The Picture Screen Saver has the option to show name and date of a photo. But instead of using iPhoto's title and image date it uses only the file name and file date.
Is there a way to show the image date and title caption (both part of the EXIF data)?

This is certainly a possibility but not very convenient as I have to enter and maintain all that info twice once in iPhoto and then in Finder.
But it may be the only option unless Apple is prepared to enhance their Screen Saver app.

  • Screen saver / dimmer / blankder

Is there a screen saver app, i.e., dim or blank the screen when not in use or not locked?

It does it automatically. Go into Settings/General and check the time setting under Auto-Lock, the screen blanks with the lock. See also Settings/Brightness.
Apple does not allow third-party screen saver apps.
Incidentally, it looks like a work email address is your posting name here. You can't change that, so you may want to stop using this Apple Discussions account after this thread, and set up a new one for the future.

  • Does screen saver degrade jpeg images used

The screen saver app on my iMac uses the images stored in an Aperture library. The images are typically jpeg. Does their display in the screen saver effectively open the image then close the image thus degrading the jpeg file every time this is done?

No. In addition, just opening a computer file almost never degrades it.

  • Screen Saver runs only on Main Screen

My screen saver, programmed to display a montage of iPhotos on two screens, used to work fine but is now working only on the main screen. The second screen stays black and displays (in white letters), "Looking for pictures..."
    _I have not selected +*Main Screen Only*+ in +Screen Saver+ Preferences._
If I click on the Test button in +Screen Saver+ Preferences, the screen saver photos appear on both screens, but if the screen saver activates on its own, or if I activate it from a hot corner, the photos appear only on the main screen. Anybody know what's up?

It's a bug in 10.5.6. What you should do is make export a copy of your photos that you want displayed from iPhoto to a folder. Put that folder wherever you want, probably ~/Pictures
Then tell the screen saver app to pull the images from there and it will work again on both of your displays. Very annoying.

  • Annoying: Mail app opens randomly after screen saver login

    Hi
I have my security settings setup so that everytime my iMac goes into screen saver mode it asks for login password. Recently I have noticed that if I leave the computer unattended for a long period of time (a few hours) and come back, the mail app opens up. If I just go away for a few minutes and come back the problem does not occur.
Since I am not using the mail app and have not set it up, the setup account window is the one to come up.
I have checked the Login Items under Accounts in System Preferences and it's not there. I have also right clicked the icon in the dock and checked if it was set to start up automatically - it isn't.
I have read online this maybe has something to do with email alerts from iCal but I have not set up iCal to send email, nor do I know where I can disable that type of feature. This is happening even when iCal is closed and I have no events for that day. I've looked around in the prefrences of iCal and disabled any option that has something to do with email but it still happens.
The next logical step was to check Activity Monitor to try and see what started a process. You see I am originally a Windows user and have recently converted my OS religion. Back in Windows when something like this happened I had many tools that could tell me what started the application and even it's command line. But with the Mac all i have is the activity monitor and I'm still not familiar. I have clicked the process and then inspect, the parent process indicated launchd, pressing that lead me to another inspector window still without much info.
How can I solve this, it is becoming rather annoying?
Also does anyone know a better process monitor for mac? or how to use top on the terminal to get the information I need?
Please help a confused new mac user!
    Thanks

So I've tried both of the tips you gave my guys, but non of them works
But I've found out something. When I switch to different space (in spaces), than drop some file and then try to switch back to my mail space, there are 2 possibilities how to do it. First - I just move mouse to the space to where I want to switch, wait for a second and it switch automatically or I can move mouse to the space where I want to switch and than press spacebar to make it faster.
The strange thing with opening app from dock happens just when I press the spacebar.
And question for your other answer - yes, it happens just with apps in my dock.
    It is so uncomfortable...
EDIT: few days ago I've run OnyX (which was probably mistake) and this happens probably since than. I used it because Snow Leopard got little bit slower so I wanted to clean it... It might be because of that.

  • Is it possible to disable the screen saver for a certain app?

Is it possible to disable the screen saver just while a certain application is running?
The app seems to crash when the screen saver comes on.
Just so you know, application I'm using is Hogwasher; a newsgroup reader.

Not really. Just disable it manually when you run that application. Then, send off a bug report to the app's developer and tell him to update it for the latest Tiger. Alternatively, use another newsgroup reader.

  • Apps show in mission control but won't open after it has gone to screen saver

I have three desk tops open on Mission Control, plus dash board. If I leave the computer and come back later and go to the desk top there is nothing there. When I click on the app it shows it is open, but just flashes and then it is gone. I have set the app, under options, to be on a particular desktop. I have to close out the app and reopen it to see it.

    Disable screen saver. Restart.

  • Screen Saver crashing my Java Web Start app

I've written a Java Web Start time tracker application that all employees run from the time they start work until they leave at the end of the day. The only problem is that there are a couple of people who from time to time find that the application has crashed when they unlock their Windows screen saver. The application window continues to show the screen saver image and the title bar says "Not Responding". In an attempt to get some clues, I had one person keep the java console running - but nothing new appears in the console.
I've personally tried crashing the app by using screen savers, but I cannot duplicate the problem. I've also tried letting my computer go into standby mode and I've let it hibernate. But every time, the application continues running as soon as I log back in.
Any ideas as to why the screen saver could trigger a problem like this for some users?

    >
I've written a Java Web Start ... . The only problem is that there are a couple of people who from time to time find that the application has crashed when they unlock their Windows screen saver. >What screensaver(s)? Some important distinctions might be
    - Windows standard savers (the savers supplied with the OS, if so, do they all use Open-GL or all use...?)
    - Windows compatible, 3rd party savers.
    - Saverbeans screensavers (Java based). E.G. <https://screensavers.dev.java.net/>

  • App that disables sleep that allows screen saver

    Hey everyone,
Curious if anyone has found an application that allows an easy one click in the menu bar that disables sleep display while still allowing the screen saver to run.
I use caffein to disable sleep in general, not just sleep display but it does not allow the screen saver to run. I like this app cause it is easy to turn it on and off with one click on the menu bar but I cant find anything similar in ease.
Basically I want my entertainment macbook's screen saver to stay on and not sleep the display, because then my TV turns off when it sleeps the display, even though it is still playing music. At the same time, I want to be able to turn back sleep on after I am done playing music so the macbook goes to sleep when I am gone.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks all!

What's wrong with the settings in System Preferences -> Energy Saver? Set both sliders to never, then just put it to sleep manually when you are done with it. That won't require any more manipulation than your proposed solution and wouldn't require running an extra app to take care of it.

  • Launch Automator app as a screen saver?

I've created an Automator app to launch and then run 77 Million Paintings.
Anyone know if there's a way of using this app as a screen saver?

    Hi tankfield!
I think, there are no replies to your question, because it has nothing to do with Automator … so it better would have been posted in another forum.
…but which one, you may ask yourself
You can realize this with the build in possibilities in OS X, but it will be not easy for a non-professional user.
So if you are interested in and you know a little about scripting and launchd, i may give you some help.
But there is an application, that seems to be made for you.
I never tested it, but you can try it out. Let me know, if it works as expected!
