Screen saver doesn' t go away

My screen saver on my new macbook pro with Lion doesn't go away when I move the mouse or hit return.  To get it to go away, I have to wiggle the mouse over the center of the screen, which erases it little block at a time, until my signin appears.  I log in, then it makes me log in again.  Not a real problem, but kind of annoying.  Anyone else with this problem?

go to system preferences - security and privacy - uncheck " required password for sleep and screen saver " if you wish to not to login again.

My screen saver doesn't go away when i start to work.  It continues to run in the background on my desktop.

Sounds like it needs it's preferences reset.
In Finder choose Go>Go To Folder. Enter ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.screensaver.plist
    Click go.
Drag the com.apple.screensaver.plist to your desktop.
Log out and back in and test.
    If solved delete from desktop.
    Hope this helps.

  • Screen saver doesn't start

    Hi All,
I've a strange problem on my MBP. The screen saver doesn't start automatically after the set period.
Do i need to reset the power management or it's a macos X 10.5.5 bug.
Any idea is very well appreciated.
    Regards
    Paul

It probably means that some process is running in the background which is preventing the screen saver from kicking in, Paolo. You may be able to find out what it is using Activity Monitor.

Basics from the manual are restart, reset, restore.
    Try a reset.

  • Screen Saver when calling and need to use the Keypad, the screen saver doesn't detect the phone has left the ear and blanks out the screen.  Even ending a call is difficult as the screen blanks out within seconds

I have to use the Keypad a lot when making calls.  Make the call, the Robot then asks to enter a number for a service, pull the phone down from the ear, the screen may light up for a second, but then the screen saver cuts in, blanking the screen out.  Sometimes you hit the Home Key to awaken the sccreen, enter your number and then back to the ear to hear the next set of instructions.  Back and forth just trying to enter the options is a pain.  Sometimes even trying to end the call, the screen blanks out and you fight to try and end a call.
If I use the Speaker function the keypad works; the speakler phone is not alway appropriate.
It appears that the phone gyro, doesn't detect the phone has moved from the ear to the viewing angle.  This wasn't an issue until recently and I can't remeber if it's the iPhone 5 or one of the updates.  It definitly wasn't there earlier on, as I threw away an Windows 6.5 phone for the same problem.
I'm not sure if it's a hardware or software (design) issue.

It is not the gyro. This has everything to do with the iPhone's prioximity sensor.
Are you using a case that may be blocking or partially blocking the proximity sensor? If you are using the case, remove the case prior to the next call to see if the same occurs without the case.

  • Screen Saver Doesn't Work

    Hi -
After upgrading to Leopard (from 10.4.11), the screen saver wouldn't work. When I go into System Preferences and select a screen saver, I get an alert that says:
"Can't Load Screen Saver. Screen saver “(name)” did not load properly. Please select another screen saver. Error: Can’t load bundle."
This happens for any of the screen savers I select. I'd appreciate any ideas as to how I can fix this. Thanks.
    Shelly

There's another two files that we can try. I only gave you the simple top level plist file. There's two more if you were willing to give that a shot and see what happens.
Lets do this: go under your main hard drive name/library/prefereneces/systemconfiguration
We are going to trash 2 files. Leave them in the trash, but don't empty trash until after we have regenerated new ones to replace those.
    1. com.apple.PowerManagement.plist.......Please delete this 1st and then retry your screen saver.
    2. preferences.plist.......Please delete this if the top file did not work
Next, setup your machine preferences including your screen savers. Check to make sure the files have been regen'd.
Test the setup. I just re read your initial post and noted there was an error message with the bundle. I will bet that even after deleting those two files you will still have the same issue as it's not the plist files that are damaged but that the OS can't load the bundle for those screensavers due to file corruption. In that case, the only thing that will remedy that issue is reloading the bundle off the new Lep install disk.
I also note that you have been having other issues as well. Leopard over Tiger is a nightmare Shelly. It really is. I could not boot and it took me two days of trouble shooting it down to driver level to find the issue and resolve it. I fixed it though and now I can boot up all the time without a kernel panic but, it does take way too much time away from just using the machine. That's the real issue-time. Good luck.

  • Screen saver doesn't work after updating to Yosemite

When the screen saver should come on the screen remains black.
The screen saver is set to turn on after 3 minutes; Energy Saver is set to turn the display off after 15 minutes.
When testing the screen saver from System Preferences, the screen saver works.
When trying to activate it with a hot corner or by leaving the computer inactive, it does not work/the screen remains black.
It does this no matter which screen saver is chosen.
Is there something I'm missing? Thank you for your help.

I updated two different Mac to "YO" last week and neither encountered an issue. Screen savers are unchanged. However, there are other reports here of screensaver issues. Some have turned out to be caused by unneeded third-party utilities. Are you running any anti-virus programs, or programs that claim to "clean, optimize, or tune up" you Mac?

  • 10.8.3 screen saver doesn't work on iPhoto library

    All libraries are grayed out.

Appears that if I select the directory above the photo library, the screen saver shows photos from the library below. So this is a tentative fix. I will add further comment after more experience.

  • Screen saver from remote photo feed?

This is both an iPhoto and an OS X question.  A few years ago I was able to 1) use iPhoto to automatically sync an album up to my apple cloud storage and then 2) configure my mom's computer's screen saver to subscribe to that feed so she could see all the photos.  This was a great system, it just worked, when I dragged notable pictures in iPhoto into that album, they started showing up on her screen saver a thousand miles away.
It appears that at least one half of this capability -- screen savers from remote servers -- is gone in Lion, and perhaps the iPhoto album sync-to-cloud feature too, I haven't checked, it doesn't matter since I would need both halves.
Does anyone know a way to do this still under Lion or a piece of software I could purchase that would do this easily?  I do NOT want to cobble together some myriad of complex pieces involving iPhoto manual file exports and other manual steps -- I want something that is seamless and automated.  Thanks.

    Afraid not.

  • Can't activate password-protected screen saver

I use my MacBook for sensitive data, so I always make sure to "lock" my screen with a password-protected screen saver when I walk away from my desk. Normally, there are several ways to do this:
    1. Wait for the screen saver to come on due to inactivity.
    2. Set a "hot corner" for the screen saver and move the mouse to that corner.
    3. Enable the keychain menu bar icon and choose "Lock Screen" from the menu bar. (This is my preferred method.)
Under normal conditions, any of these three methods will activate the screen saver.
However, sometimes when I've been running my computer for a while (several days) without rebooting, all three of these methods simultaneously *stop working*. The "lock screen" menu option does nothing, the screen saver hot corner does nothing, and the computer fails to activate the screen saver on its own after the predefined period of inactivity.
Oddly, I can still activate the screen saver by using the "Test" button in the screen saver preferences pane, but in that case it's not password protected, so that doesn't help.
A reboot solves the problem, but this usually happens when I have a bunch of stuff open and it's not a convenient time to reboot. Plus, after a reboot, the problem still recurs a few days later.
I'm not the only one with this problem. Many others have reported the same behavior:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6124716
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1391053
A few of those users found workarounds, but they seemed to be experiencing something different from what I'm describing here. Those who were describing the same symptoms I am still don't seem to have found a solution.
Incidentally, I am not running Spaces or Parallels, nor am I using an external monitor, all of which have been suspected in other threads as the culprit. Quitting all open apps doesn't seem to help either.
The issue seems to be limited to one account at a time; if I switch into another account while having this problem, the other account won't have problems starting its screen saver, but switching back doesn't resolve the issue for the first account. A reboot does.
Can anyone shed some light on this or offer another workaround? Or is this just an ongoing bug?

This happened to me again the other day. Any suggestions?

  • Why does iPhoto Screen Saver say "The selected source contains no pictures"?

After upgrading to Lion, I noticed that I can no longer use iPhoto albums as a screen saver. At first when loading the Screen Saver preference page, the iPhoto Screen Saver doesn't show up at all. After a bit, I can see "iPhoto" as an option, but if I select it I see a message in the preview pane that says "The selected source contains no photos. Please choose a new source that contains pictures or add images to the source." There are of course plenty of images in iPhoto already. Any ideas?
    Kolbe

I have had some similar problems.   I think mine were cause by "interference" from my Apple TV.   By any chance do  you have an Apple TV?    I first notice the problem after viewing photos on my Apple TV as a screen show.   When I was finished I just changed my TV back to the cable box, but did not do anything to the Apple TV.  When I had the problem I went back to the Apple and switched it to something other than photos.   Now my sceen saver shows photos again.    I am guessing that the Apple TV some how locks the file such that the screen save can not get to it.
    Good luck.

  • This might seem minor, but in Screen saver, how do you change the photos from your iPhoto that are those predetermined files on System Preferences?

I am trying to get new photos or images into the files (or whatever they are) on Screensaver that load when you screen saver becomes active. How exactly do you do that?

"If the screen saver doesn’t have an installer, drag it to /Library/Screen Savers at the top level of your internal disk. This makes the screen saver available to all users. If you want it available only to a specific user, drag it to the Library folder in that user’s home folder (the one with the user’s name)." was in the Installing and Uninstalling Screen Savers section.
A quick look around showed me that System (System/Library/Screen Savers) also holds some of the Apple images.
