Screen saver ignores settings

Using an ATV2 with all the latest updates my ATV has a seriously annoying problem with it's screen-saver.
No matter which images I select it will ignore my selection and show things like movie posters or all of the photos I have loaded not the specific albums I select.
Even if I select the on-board images from the ATV (nature etc) it will run a few of them before it starts running movie posters or whatever it decides it want sto run.
This is seriously annoying as I use my ATV for presentations & when I am finished the presentation & am taking questions etc I need the images that relate to my presentation showing.
Not movie poster.
Not my family photos.
Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this annoying problem?

Try not using a screensaver.
Set the slider in Screensaver to "never".
Then set the sliders in Energy Saver to something appropriate. I use 10 minutes for the Display sleep, and one hour for the Computer sleep - no problems with those settings, it behaves as expected.
If this works OK for a few days, then try trashing the prefs file for the Screensaver. To do that, while in Finder click the Go menu while pressing the Option key; select the item Library. In that folder, go to the Preferences folder and open it. Locate the following file and drag it out to the Desktop -
     com.apple.screensaver.plist
Then close the folders and restart the machine. After the machine is back up, try setting your screensaver again. Test it for a few days to see if it behaves the way it should. If it does, you can throw away the prefs file you moved to the Desktop.
Note - make sure that the delay set for the screensaver is less than the delays set for both Display sleep and Computer sleep.

  • System preferences freezes whenever try to change screen saver settings

When I try to change the screen saver settings in the system preferences, it locks up and I have to force quit. Is this a graphics issue? Anyone else having this issue? It looks like my computer is having problems processing the screen saver previews. I have the new Macbook Pro Unibody (June 2009).
Any help would be awesome, thanks!

Edit/add to the above: I just realised that the iLife Support update had (supposedly) already been installed -- it's listed in the updates in the system preferences, but not with today's date (which fixed the issue), but with the date when I got the MBP. Strange. A bug in the update? Not installed completely? Didn't get any error messages though. Anyway, all's well now

How to Change the  Screen Saver Settings to Mystify in Windows 7 using vbscript?

    First: What is a GPO?
Second: jrv, that was not too helpful in general. someone should do some actual code.
Bob Blork - Mark as answer if it helped!
This is a forum for technicians and not for home users.  GPO is what technical people use to manage Windows. THe script to do this is in the link I posted - how is that not helpful?
I know this is all over your head.  I am curious as to why you would respond in a technical forum to a question you do not understand.
We do not provide free scripts.  We also will point users at correct answers.
This is not a forum for homw users or for simple support questions.  It is also a thread that has been  answered for a long time.  Perhaps you should start a new thread if you have an actual question about scripting.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    Hi ..
    Might be corrupted preferences.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.screensaver.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.screensaver.plist file to the Trash.
Restart your Mac then reset your screen saver.

    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. You can demote it back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:20 ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    resetpassword
That's one word, all lower case, with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’renot going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Turn off the screen saver is greyed out in Presentation Settings

    Hi,
We are using Windows 7, and want to allow laptop users the ability to "turn off the screen saver" when they are running presentations. However, this option is greyed out and the box is not selectable.
We have the usual screen saver group policies, i.e. enable screen saver, Prevent changing the screen saver, screen saver timeout, and force specific screen saver. I have tried to Disable all these apart from Enable screen saver, since if I disable this then
it says users cannot change screen saver options, so I left this one as enabled.
However, the "Turn off the screen saver" box is still greyed out. Does anyone know which group policy setting will enable this option?
Also, is there a way to keep the screen saver settings and also be able to use Presentation Settings, so that the screen saver does not come on and lock the machine in mid presentation?
I've seen some sites mention utilities that run in the background and simulate mouse clicks, but we're not allowed to run these kind of utilities, and no forums seem to be able to provide an answer to this problem.
    Thxs.
    Jaz

    Hi,
    >>i.e. enable screen saver, Prevent changing the screen saver, screen saver timeout, and force specific screen saver. I have tried to Disable all these apart from
    Enable screen saver,
Before going further, please make sure that the group policy settings were applied correctly. We can run cmd command
gpresult/v or gpresult/z on clients to collect group policy to check this.
Besides, if the issue persists, we can try setting all these settings to
    Not Configured.
    >>Also, is there a way to keep the screen saver settings and also be able to use Presentation Settings, so that the screen saver does not come on and lock the machine
    in mid presentation?
Based on the description, it is not easy to do this. However, we can reduce the effect of screen saver by choosing to not enable
Password protect the screen saver, and not set the setting
On resume, display logon screen on Screen Saver Settings dialogue box. Besides, we need to not let our power plan settings lock out the computer within a short time.

if you are looking for Ubuntu 11.10 Screensaver settings, in the far top right hand
corner click the icon where you would normally log out or shut down and select '''System Settings''' then select '''Screen. '''
If you want the old xscreensavers back you will have to install them

  • I have been trying to make the screen saver on my iMac 27" to work with no results. I change the settings and don't work neither. Please I need help

Since I bought this 27" IMac desktop I've been changing the settings for the screen saver and has been impossible to make it work. My screen goes black and no screen saver. I have try everything, If anyone can help me with this issue I really appreciate. thanks

first of all the only purpose for screensaver since we moved to LCD panels is if you think it look pretty
the old tube crt screens would get the image they displayed for a very long time burned into the phosphor
that being said then make sure your Energy Saver is not set to turn off the screen before or the same time as the screensaver is suppose to kick in

    Hi,
    I agree with SenneVL.
After you have created the .scr file that you want to apply, you may deploy the screensaver via the following group policy.
    User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control Panel\Personalization\Force specific screen saver
If you enable this setting, type the name of the file that contains the screen saver, including the .scr file name extension. If the screen saver file is not in the %Systemroot%\System32
directory, type the fully qualified path to the file.
Note: This setting can be superseded by the "Enable Screen Saver" setting.  If the "Enable Screen Saver" setting is disabled, this setting is ignored,
and screen savers do not run.

  • MacBook Pro screen saver keeps going back to default settings

I use the Vintage Prints screen saver and always change the folder of photos to the most recent folder of photos I have taken. (I am an avid photographer and take lots of pictures.) Periodically the screensaver reverts back to the default settings: National Geographic photos, not shuffling the slide order. This has happened multiple times. Why won't it keep my settings?

Well try upgrading the firmware of the router & keep on holding tightly the reset button in such a way that power light is blinking on the router & then do a complete network power cycle i.e., unplug the power cables from the modem & from the router & then plug in the power cable to the modem first once all the lights are solid green you could plug in the power cable to the router & check out it will definately work!!
Open the setup page of router using 192.168.1.1 then put in the password as admin...all you need to do is do the wireless settings such as Radio Band Frequency to Standard 20 MHZ frequency, channel to 11.
Also, the advanced wireless settings to Beacon Interval=50,Frag
    thres=2306 & Rts thres=2307 & then uncheck a Block Anonymous Internet
Requests & it will definately work!!!

  • How to save slideshow settings so when I press Ctrl-Enter it does what I want?

How to save slideshow settings so when I press Ctrl-Enter it does what I want?
    eh?
    R

I tested what you gave me there Rob. On my Mac I have dual monitors:
-Only blackens/show slideshow on one monitor (the main monitor, if I move LR to my secondary monitory, the slideshow is still on the first, but the second still runs normal, with LR just sitting there).
-If I disable slide durration I have to manually advance the slides with the right arrow.
-I don't have "Lightroom" (or with my current settings any) text on the screen.
    -Does not repeat.
My Windows machine doesn't have dual monitors, but the others work correctly....
That is, until I thought about this differently. Since we are looking at changing Slideshow settings, I was naturally in the Slideshow module. But then I remembered the whole point of the Impromtu Slideshow was that you can view slideshow playback from any module. Once I returned to Library and clicked Command/Ctrl+Enter, then I saw exactly what you are talking about. Both monitors are blackened, slide duration is ignored, etc.
You know why? Because the Impromptu Slideshow uses one of the templates when outside of the Slideshow Module. Which one? Well, Default +, of course. How do you change that? Right-click (Command-click) the slideshow template you'd rather use and select "Use for Impromptu Slideshow".

  • Missing password window when waking from screen saver

I've had some issues with waking from sleep once I turned on the screen saver password. I opened the lid and the screen lit up and I had the mouse pointer--but no user name/password box.
I tried opening/closing the lid a few times, plugging it in to an external monitor, etc, and no luck. I ended up having to hold the power key down until the machine turned off and then I rebooted, and I lost some work.
Is there any way to force a login screen?

I have a simple solution, go to your "Energy Savings" setting under the System Settings, once there move the slider-bar so that your screen saver is never activated. Now move the slider-bar so the system goes into "stand-by" mode after 5-10 minutes, thus once opened again, should prompt you to enter your password..?!
Please ignore the "Windows" terms. I'm a new Mac user, but this solution has seamed to work in my case, at least until a "Fix" is made.
