  • Screen saver defaults to National Geographic library

I have a late 2013 iMac. I recently (Dec. 2014) installed the Yosemite 10.10.1. Since I have installed it my photos no longer come up on the screen saver after a logout or shut down, even though overtime I see them I choose my photo library in System preferences again. Any suggestions?!
    Thank You,
    Dana

Back up all data. Quit System Preferences if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return. A folder should open. If it does, look for a file with a long name that begins "com.apple.screensaver". There may be several such files. Move them all to the Trash.
Log out or restart the computer. Test. If the problem is resolved, empty the Trash and recreate your settings in the Screen Saver tab.

  • Screen saver defaults to Nat Geographic photos

Have upgraded to Yosemite and chosen my personal iPhoto folder as the source for the screensaver, but it keeps defaulting to the built in National Geographic photos. Any ideas?

  • Some Preferences not sticking ie screen saver jump back to random after setting a particular screen saver

I set a specific screen saver in the preferences file, after a reboot, random savers box is always checked. Also when I move items to the side bar they stay there until a start-up after which they have disappeared.
    Thx  AL

I think that it is something wrong with kernel and graphic drivers but i'm not able to solve it from the beginning of using of Arch by me.
I'm not so sure this issue is software-related only because in my case it seems the laptop screen enters power-saving mode (10-min timeout) on its own without any events logged (as shown by dmesg) so my next thought was OK, I'm going to get rid of this issue disabling the screen power-saving timeout in the BIOS and set it to never power down or something like that and from then on managing power mode manually; ie: when I want to power down I will just use systemctl suspend/hibernate which work fine ... problem is: there are no related options in my BIOS for such timeout.
The only timeouts I have are in /etc/systemd/logind.conf set to 30min (#IdleActionSec) (commented) by default so these are not in effect because the screens goes blank after 10m which is less than the (default) 30m in logind. Maybe setting loggind to 9m (un-commented) to catch the event before the machine-default one ?
    IdleActionSec=9min
    IdleAction=suspend
Will check it and report back.

  • How to look at the slide that just showed on desktop screen saver.

Please help me look at the slide that just showed on desktop screen saver.

If you are referring to one of the default Screen Saver collections: 1) National Geographic, 2) Aerial, 3) Cosmos, or 4) Nature Patterns, they are all folders in a system Library location that contain the individual images.
In the Finder Go menu, choose Go to Folder… and copy/paste the following text into that dialog window:
    /Library/Screen Savers/Default Collections
This will show the four categorical folders from the first sentence above. Double-click on the individual image(s) and they will be viewable/exportable in Preview.app.

  • I have a MacBook Pro running mac osx 10.8, Screen saver keeps reverting to national geographic photos.

I have a MacBook Pro running mac osx 10.8, Screen saver keeps reverting to national geographic photos.

Just found this solution on another website. I tried it and it works. No more polar bears and Savannahs!
Apparently if you put it in the folder called "Desktop Pictures" it will work.
So, copy whatever folder of pictures you would like to use as your screensaver and then go to:
    Macintosh HD>Library > Desktop Pictures
Paste your folder into this folder called "Desktop Pictures".
You may have to enter the administrator code (the password you use to open your mac usually).
Then, go back to System Preferences, go to Desktop and Screensaver, click on the Screensaver tab on the top, go to the drop down menu beside "Source" (under the picture) and click on "Choose Folder". Navigate to the Macintosh HD>Library>Desktop Pictures and then click on the folder you just pasted in there. Click "Choose" and you're all set.

  • Screen saver slide show keeps reverting to National Geographic photos?

Hi all - quick question about a minor annoyance.  I have the screen saver set to display photos from one of my iPhoto photo sets using the built in screen saver options.  For no apparent reason, it occasionally decides to stop displaying my photos and instead starts displaying the National Geographic photos instead, which is one of the options in the screen saver setup.  I can go to settings and change it back to my photos but it always seems to eventually go back.  I can't find any rhyme, reason or pattern to this happening - if its something that I am doing, I've got no idea what it could be.
Anyone have any idea how I might be accidentally causing this, or is this some sort of bug?  Any way to prevent it from happening?  Any help appreciated.  Not sure but I am pretty sure this did not happen before Yosemite.

Another workaround is to delete the pictures in the National Geographic folder and add your picture there. Hard drive level Library/ScreenSavers.

  • Screen Saver keeps defaulting to National Geographic no matter what I set it to.

I have repeatedly set my screen saver preference to Photo Library, but the computer keeps resetting it to National Geographic.  I have tried setting the screen saver to other settings, such as Aerial or Cosmos, just to see what happens, and it always goes back to National Geographic.
Help! Is this just a glitch? Or am I missing something...?
I am starting to hate National Geographic.

Issue for many.  Look through this forum for the discussions.

  • Screen Saver continues to revert to National Geographic

Since upgrading to Yosemite my screen saver continues to revert to National Geographic. I set it for an iPhoto file; it uses the iPhoto file for a short while and then reverts to National Geographic.
Dumped the relevant .plist files; removed all files with a long name that begins "com.apple.screensaver". This did not help.

Screen Saver finds errors in Permissions when attempting to open the selected file, then reverts to National Geographic by default.  If your selected folder is in iPhoto, just repairing the Permissions in the iPhoto application is insufficient for a lasting result.  You must repair the Permissions of EVERY folder on your computer by using the following approach:
Finder / Control-Click on the “home” folder (the one with the picture of the house) / Get Info / Open the bottom right Lock / Click the cogwheel at the bottom of the screen / Select the appropriate action (it takes a few minutes to reset all permissions for every folder).  This will all save and lock back up just by exiting.

  • Screen saver won't stay on photo library

Boy, lots of unanswered questions with the new OS 10.10.  I posted this question yesterday, got no responses, and now it is so far back I didn't get to it after adding More Pages over ten times - still at 4 hours ago.  I don't think anyone will ever see it again.
I have selected a folder from iPhoto to use for a screen saver - recent pictures.  It loads the pictures but the next time the computer goes to screen saver it use the National Geographic pictures.  Now they are beautiful but I want to see pictures of my grand kids! What am I doing wrong or what is Yosemite doing wrong?  This is very frustrating!

This seems to be working, at least for the short term, but it seems strange to be required to keep the system preferences open all of the time.  I am going to try there suggestion below from Linc Davis and see what happens.

  • The screen saver keeps shifting back to generic picks that came from iMac

I have a set of pics that I use as screen saver. But every once in a while it changes the screen saver pics to the National Geographic pics that came with the iMac. Why is that happening and should I be concerned.? I switch it back, and afyter a while, it goes back.

  • IPhoto Screen Saver Disappeared

I have iPhoto as my screen saver (the whole library, random order) and today suddenly it stared showing National Geographic photos.  I went into the Desktop & Screen Saver options, and iPhoto is not in the drop down list.  It _does_ appear in the Desktop options, but it does not appear in the Screen Saver.
Anyone have any ideas how I can get my iPhoto screen saver back?  I searched these forums but can't find any reports of the same issue.

Well, I broke down and upgraded to the latest version of iPhoto because I finally found a thread that said that this fixed it.  Sure enough, after I did that the "Photo Library" that Linc refers to re-appeared.  Apparently recently something happened with the previous version of iPhoto (I think I had '09) that took this out.  I  don't think I ran any software updates between when it was working and when it stopped working, and I'm not sure if upgrading to the new iPhoto actually was the issue or if upgrading caused something in the database to get repaired.  But the long and short of it is that upgrading did resolve the issue for me.
