Screen Saver Not Starting
Hello-
The problem is that the screen saver is set to start 15 min.
after inactivity. Sometimes it works but most of the it does
not. After the 15 minutes, the screen just goes black.
Can anybody help me with this problem?
iMac G5 intel based- Leopard 10.5.4
Hey Chris
That sounds strange, Check Energy Saver > Sleep in the Sys Prefs and look if "Put Display(s) to sleep" is also at 15 minutes or less... If it is lower, your Display will go snoozing before your screen saver has a chance to pop in to place.
Try it out - hope it works.
cheers

Screen saver not starting after 10.9.2 update!
After installing the most recent update from Apple, 10.9.2. My screen saver will not start if the time is set to anything higher that 1 minute.
I have done a RAM refresh and all so trtied it with other users on the Mac and it still wont start.
Anybody else having this issue? Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
Hey Smart Apples,
My iTunes Artwork screen saver is not working. After reboot, then selecting iTunes Artwork in System Preferences, just a black screen appears in the preview, as well as when pressing Test, and when allowing the screen saver to start on it's own. The error message in Console says...

The memory address location at the end of each line is different everytime I preview the screen saver.
I've tried...
deleting ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.screensaver.* files
making sure each album has a cover in iTunes
running Get Album Artwork in iTunes
recreating symbolic link ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music -> ~/Public/iTunes Music/
... but doesn't help.
All other screen savers work... my usual is Flurry, and it works too, but gives invalid framebuffer operation under Console.
Nothing running/checked under Sharing.

Does anyone have a solution?
Environment: Mac OS X (10.7.2), Macbook Pro (late 2008)So it turned out that the cause of the problem wasn't as complicated as I thought...
I had a few songs that were not added to the iTunes library, instead referenced from other locations on my hard drive.
Specifically, if you bring up the Get Info window of a song, under Summary > Where, it may show a different path than your usual iTunes Media folder location, set under Preferences.
E.g. Where: ~/Desktop/downloaded_song.mp3
I guess, this happens when you drag a song into your iTunes instead of adding it to the library, and apparently, causes problems with the Artwork Screen Saver.
Solution:
To correct it,
For those songs, go to File > Add to Library...
Then find and select the song file.
That's all I had to do to get the screen saver working... All your songs have to be added to your iTunes Library.
I think my brother was messing around with my playlist... I hope Apple nails a better way to lock-unlock/secure OS X soon (proximity sensor, biometric 3D face recognition, unique voice recognition, soul recognition, etc.).
That malloc error message still shows up; that must be an unrelated issue with the screen saver.
I hope this helps out all those suffering through the same issue with their iTunes Artwork Screen Saver. -
Screen Saver has started pulling from Wallpaper file AND I-Photo
Suddenly for no apparent reason, Screen Saver has started pulling photos from I-Photo as well as my Wallpaper File.
I do NOT want it to display from the I-Photo library.
In the Source option, I have selected Wallpaper (the name of the file). Also have it coming on in 20 minutes and randomly. Display is Origami.
Any suggestions?Hey BD!
Thanks for response. Approaching Sleep Time There. I am kinda weird tonight. -
Hi all,
I need help with my iphone4s.
When I turn on my iphone4s, the apple logo will show for a few seconds, and it will suddenly fade off to a blank screen, and not start up. It will then restart by itself, and the cycle repeats. Any suggestions on how I can troubleshoot this problem?
What seems to be the problem here?
thanks and regards

Imac 20" intel Leopard black screen, does not start up
Imac 20" intel Leopard black screen, does not start up,
yestarday i put my imac aluminium in sleep, when i wake up this morning the computer did not start up from sleep and also did not start up from the power button back, i try several times and nothing, i hear the sound of the start up but i remain with a black screen. What can be the cause? The video , maybe? I did not install any hardware lately on it.
note: i have a wireless keyboard & mouse
Message was edited by: mindsoulNot running Leopard (Panther), but I have a similar problem on my 24" iMac. Computer was working fine last night (I shut it down) and when I went to boot up this morning the computer is stuck on a black screen.
The boot up sound is initiated but nothing after that. The power light stays at full brightness, if I touch the power button the light blinks and then after a while it goes out. A full reset does nothing. I've tried reseting my PRAM, which works because I hear the start up sound twice, but no change to the black screen.
I don't have access to another Mac, would inserting the Startup Disc I received with the computer do anything? -
I am using system 10.8.2 and have an issue with the screen saver not filling the screen. the desktop does, but not the screen saver. I find adjustments for the desktop, but not the saver. Would appreciate any suggestions.
I have a group of my images that rotate, and yes it happens oneach. I do believethat I have at one time had the images cover the entire screen, however I cannor remember how I made that happen, just like the desktop. I am sure it is old'ites setting in!

Word of the day screen saver not working after upgrade?
anyone else having the word of the day/dictionary screen saver not pop up anymore after the upgrade?
Yes, precisely. The crash of "word of the day" cannot be related to the Lion upgrade. Some other issue must be at fault. And to clarify and be specific "Apple" did not say it was not supported but rather one person working in customer support said "word of the day" was not supported - and since some of us Lion users having the screen saver work and only just now failing, that one person at Apple seems to have made an error in guessing what the problem is. Why keep discussing this? Because "word of the day" is a useful screen saver in an educational setting and it is worth the effort to fix it and restore it as a screen saver option. Hoping there is a fix soon.

Hot Corners: Start Screen Saver not working
I have enabled two Hot Corners with the Start Screen Saver option, but when I mouse over to the corner, nothing happens. Console logs show nothing, so it is like it is not even being triggered. If I do a Screen Saver Preview inside System Preferences, it launches fine. If I launch it from the terminal, it also works fine ( sudo open -a /System/Library/Frameworks/ScreenSaver.framework/Versions/A/Resources/ScreenSav erEngine.app). My other Hot Corners Desktop and Notification Center work fine. The only unique thing hardware wise is that I have an additional monitor attached to my iMac via Dual-Link DVI.
Any ideas before I submit it as a bug?

Screen saver not working in KDE 4.6
I can't seem to get my screen saver to work on my netbook running KDE 4.6.1, I have tried removing all the the user settings for KDE and starting with fresh configs but that did solve the issue. I can go into the System Settings and test the screen savers, in which case they work there, but it does not come on when the system times out, I have it set to five minutes. Could this be caused by a missing package or something needed for the screen saver to work?

Thank you, it was the same for me. Starting dbus and then restarting KDE fixed everything. I added dbus in the daemon array, so everything should be in place now.

My screen saver has stop working, I have re-boot the machine, disconnect and reconnect the time machine drive.
I have run the repair permission utilities. I have made change to the various time and screen saver images. None of these had any impact on fixing this problem. I am running ML with the latest updates. I have been running ML for many months and never had this occur, It just started suddendly
Not sure what else I can do to resolve this issue.
Any help and suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Screen saver wont start even after resetting PRAM
Hi, after the 10.8.2 update my screen saver has become increasingly erratic in starting. I have reset the PRAM and checked the running processes but cant see anything wrong. the problem will cure its self after I restart the MAC but after a while stops working.
Any one know of any possible solutions ?
Im worried that it will damage the display.

Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that your device will not power on and you have some troubleshooting steps with the issue persisting. There are just a couple more steps that I could recommend in the article below.

"Require password after screen saver begins" & "Start Screen Saver"
Hello All,
Can someone tell me what the UNIX command strings are to set 1) "Require password after screen saver begins" on, 2) "Start Screen Saver" to 15 minutes and (3) "Disable remote control infrared receiver" via ARD? I have over 100 clients and it would be nice to issue the commands instead of walking up to each Mac spread all over the campus. Most of the clients are running 3.3.1. Thanks!
Mike
Message was edited by: binkysdadHello, Mike
There may be a command and the UNIX forums would be the place to really find the answer.
The problem is that each User has their own Screen Saver and Security settings. They are not global settings. If ARD is set up to access all of the other systems, then you can do it right from your office and flag which ones have been configured with the new settings with labels. -
Preferences, Screen Saver - Not Responding
Hey everyone,
I am having trouble with a computer that's not responding amongst other things. It started with iPhoto....when opened it would take forever to load and then basically couldn't do anything within it. I made a new library and opened it and everything seemed to be working fine in the empty library. I tried backing the old library up and it wouldn't let me. Then I was in System Preferences and tried opening the screen saver icon and it also freezes....then crashes. The finder is also acting a little strange. I looked around on the forum and found the thread about Stuffit and tried everything with that but still no success. Any ideas???Here is what came up. Thanks!

Why does my screen saver not activate in Yosemite on my iMac
I have a new iMac running the latest OS but cannot get the screen saver to activate. I have tried setting it to activate after different times, changed which screensaver to be activated, and rebooted the iMac. It works very rarely but I can't work out why it works on those times but not the vast majority of the time. Any help would be appreciated as I have looked on the forums but not found an answer that works for me
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.
