Screen Saver on New PB 17"

I just got the new PowerBook 17" and noticed that the screen saver as well screen sleep don't work. I think this happened after I installed 10.4.3. Anyone else having the same problem?

hey...mine has not arived yet but when I read your post I went searching for an answer for you, I found this quote in another forum
"Response & Follow-Up
Adam
This is from Apple;
Certain DVD-Video discs do not fill the entire display even if Apple DVD Player is set to Fill Screen Wide mode. This is due to the way that the disc was originally created. It is not a problem with your PowerBook display."
so try some different dvds....it's possible you just got one that was authored in a way that apples dvd player can not expand it properly

  • Hot News Screen Saver

    Apple Fans,
Here is the setup and followup question.
I have my powerbook screen saver set up to display the "Hot News"/RSS Visualizer. Therefore, when it is time to switch over to the screen saver the news pops up on, I quess what you would call, a rotating type of display and if i want to access the information shown at that time I touch the coresponding number (ex. Apple launches Quicktime 8... press "2" for more info), blah, blah, blah, you know.
Anyway... the background when this happens is blue. How can I change the color background?
I have gone to the screen saver section and I don't see a place in there that this can be done.
Thanks in advance for any helpful hints!

    Tuttle,
no, i didn't know that. thanks for the info. i think the rss feed/screensaver was a great idea that apple came up with. i'm sure its got a few fans out there.
i must admit though that i am a bit suprised that i can't change the color. oh well.
    thanks for the help anyway.

  • Screen saver lag in loading photos from new folder

I use my screen saver to display the family photos in a side show. I have several thousand photos in several folders. I have noticed that whenever I want to change the folder used as the side show source, it takes the Screen Saver Preference pane a very long time to respond. It is as if it is scanning all the photos in the currently assigned folder in order to display them in the preview window provided, and it gets so dogged down doing that it can't respond to my clicks on the Choose Folder option. This is puzzling because when I move my mouse cursor to the upper left corner of my screen to activate the screen saver, it only takes a few seconds to begin displaying photos, even with iTunes and other apps running. But when I open the Screen Saver Preference Pane just to change the source folder or to make any other simple change in options (pan and zoom, time to activate screen saver, etc.) it bogs down completely for 2-3 minutes. This makes no sense to me -- if the OS can get the screen saver side show going on a folder with several thousand photos in just seconds when the hot corner is used to activate it, why does it take the Preference Pane version so long to load the very same photos in a preview window? The problem is so bad, that I rarely bother to change source folders now. Which is a shame, because the side show program does a stellar job displaying photos -- at least once it gets around to it! A possible solution would be to give the user the option to suppress previewing of images. I have suggested this to Apple in several emails, and with each update to the OS I hope to find the problem corrected. So far, no cigar.
As long as I'm at it, I'd like to make my annual request that Apple to make the Screen Saver side show a stand-alone application. My reasons, partly taken from an earlier post, are as follows. The built-in side show provided by Apple via the Screen Saver Preference Pane does a fantastic job of displaying even low-resolution photos in full-screen mode (especially with pan and zoom activated) without the photo appearing excessively blurry or pixelized. I don't know how the Apple programmers do it, but the photos displayed by the screen saver seem crisper and sharper than the same photos displayed by Preview or Photoshop. This may partly be due to an illusion created by the pan and zoom -- the expansion and shifting of the image on the screen causes the mind to focus on the signal, which is consistent from frame to frame, as opposed to the noise (pixelization) which varies somewhat randomly. I think there is some kind of perceptual averaging process that allows the mind to perceive the underlying true image, despite the low resolution.
Be that as it may, I love the iMac screen saver. But I can't get control of it because it is not a stand-alone app. If the side show were available as stand-alone application it would probably have other features such as the ability to pause, go backward or forward, set the duration of each photo, select background music, etc. These would be in addition to the pan and zoom options already offered by the Screen Saver Preference Pane. And unlike the Preference Pane, selecting a new folder for the side show would (hopefully) not dog the machine completely down.
I am aware that side show capability is available within iPhoto and also at the FINDER level when using Spotlight to search for images. But again, none of these are stand alone apps, they all work a little differently, and no one of them does everything you need. How about just having an app called Slideshow (or iSlideshow)?
Does anyone else see a need for this?

I have several thousand photos in several folders. I have noticed that whenever I want to change the folder used as the side show source, it takes the Screen Saver Preference pane a very long time to respond. It is as if it is scanning all the photos in the currently assigned folder in order to display them in the preview window provided, and it gets so dogged down doing that it can't respond to my clicks on the Choose Folder option.
Assuming you don't want to redistribute your photos into a greater number of folders or subfolders so there would be fewer in each folder to process, you could try a workaround. Try moving your currently-assigned folder to your desktop temporarily, before opening the Screen Saver preference pane. If the preference pane can't find the old folder, it may immediately ask you to choose a new one. You could hopefully then do so, close the preference pane, and then put back the old folder.
It's my understanding that there will be no future updates to Tiger, only security fixes.

  • I have just opened 2 new albums in photo but cannot see the albums thru' itunes when syncing my ipad or thru' the screen saver on ITV

I have just opened 2 new albums in photo but cannot see the albums thru' itunes when syncing my ipad or thru' the screen saver on ITV . My photo apps is Version 1.0 (209.52.0)

Have you tried deleting the photo cache from your computer and then re-trying the photo sync and see if they all then copy over (you need to select and sync all the photos that you want on the iPad together in one go, as only the most recent photo sync remains on the iPad) ? The location of the cache, and how to delete it, is on this page http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314
Don't know about the Facebook photo emailing, but there are a number of apps that allow to upload photos to their site (e.g. the 'official' Facebook app).
(For future info, typing all in capitals is considered SHOUTING - you are more likely to get help/responses if you don't.)

  • New MacBook Pro, fan goes crazy on iPhoto screen saver

I just got a new 15in MacBook Pro (running Lion of course) with the following specs:
       - 8 gigs RAM
       - 2.2 GHz
       - 500 gig 7200 hard drive
I had my screen saver set to cycle randomly through 350 pictures from my wedding. Within 1 minute of the screensaver activating, my fan kicks in full speed. When I go into Activity Monitor (while the fan is still going nuts) no processes are using more than 7% CPU. Within a couple of minutes of resuming work, the screen saver dies down and everything is fine.
Does anyone know why this is happening? I'm a programmer and even having multiple applications in active use, the fan doesn't kick on. If I switch to Arabesque screen saver, the fan doesn't act crazy. I suppose it's not a big deal to use a different screen saver but there's no logical reason for my fan to go insane when all it's doing is cycling through some pictures.
I did try the steps to reset the SMC but it did not seem to solve the issue.
    Any help appreciated!

You were right One of my other iPhoto albums must have corrupted pictures because I went to a backup that contained only the wedding pictures and everything is fine. Always nice when the answer happens to be something simple!
    Thanks!!

  • New album art feature and the album art screen saver

    Hi,
I've been using (and enjoying) the built-in album art screen saver for my locked screen for a long time. A few days after I've updated to iTunes 7, I began to delete old covers of my favorite albums (low resolution, bad color, read: Google image search) and applied the better-looking ITMS covers by selectively using the "get album art" feature.
Since I did that, those favorite albums do not appear in the screen saver rotation anymore.
I'm aware that the downloaded covers aren't saved in-file but in the /Album Artwork folder, so I'm certain that's the problem - the screen saver isn't programmed to look for those.
Now, does a workaround exist for that? Does Apple plan a small update (unlikely) / did anybody write a compatible clone / did anybody found a hack? Unfortunately, it's not in the localizible part of "iTunes Artwork.saver".
Thanks in advance for your help!

    Powerbook G4, Jan 06   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   1 GB RAM

Same problem that I am having. I enjoyed the album art screen saver. Since I updated to v7 the screen saver doesnt seem to work correctly. Spent the first day of release getting most of my albums (shockingly more then I thought). Enabled the screen saver, but only got 4 albums to show up, no others. Testing it more, I removed the art for the albums that showed up, which got me to 1 album, removed and then got the error that my iTunes Library had no albums with artwork. Weird.. Removed my library, reloaded, and ALL the artwork is gone. Tried going a few albums at a time manually and it shows in iTunes, the new Album Art Dir updates with new stuff. but nothing for the screen saver. Good idea in principle, kinda bad in excuction is my thoughts right now. Hope for a fix soon.

  • I cannot activate the screen saver. My operating system is Mac OS X version 10.6.8. The screen message says 'Please contact the vendor to get a newer version of the screen saver'

When I try and activate my screen saver the following message appears
Please contact the vendor to get a newer version of the screen saver
My operating system is Mac OS X  version 10.6.8

To begin with, you have the wrong forum - the iMacs covered by this forum were discontinued in 2005 and are incapable of running OS X 10.6.x
Try either iMac (Intel) or Snow Leopard forums.
To get more help, contributors will need to know what screensaver you're trying to use - is it one downloaded from the internet or one of the OS X default set?

  • Installing a New Screen Saver

I'm pretty new to the world of Mac and still figuring things out since I'm so used to PC. I went to http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/icons_screensavers/3ddesktopaquariumscreen saver.html and downloaded the screen saver at the bottom. It downloaded to the desktop. I assumed double clicking it would install it, but when I go into the screen saver preferences it isn't there for me to choose. What do I have to do?
    Thanks
Mac OS X (10.4.8)   MacBook Pro

If double-clicking doesn't work, try this:
    Quit System Preferences
    Go to Hard drive/Library/Screen Savers
Put the screen saver in that folder. Open System Preferences and click on the Desktop and Screen Saver button. The screen saver should now be listed.

  • Just bought a new iMac, I am in screen saver mode and have forgotten the password ?

Just bought a new iMac, I am in screen saver mode and have forgotten the password ?

This link will tell you exactly how to reset your password
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1274
In OS X Lion or later, you can reset your user password with your Apple ID.
In Mac OS X v10.6.8 or earlier, follow these steps to reset a password when there is only one administrator account on the computer, or if the original administrator account needs a password reset. "Original" administrator account refers to the one that was created immediately after installing Mac OS X. If the original administrator password is known, that administrator account may be used to reset the passwords of other administrator accounts using the steps described above. These steps require an optical drive; if your Mac does not have an optical drive and you have a Mac OS X v10.6 Install disc, see below.
Start up from a Mac OS X Install disc (one whose version is closest to the version of Mac OS X installed).  Usually, you can start from the disc by putting it in your computer, restarting, and holding the C key. Or, put it in the computer and click the Install or Restore icon you see in the disc's main window (after which the computer will start from the disc without you needing to hold C). Or, you can use Startup Manager or the Startup Disk preference pane to select the Install disc.
Choose a language, click the arrow button to continue,
Mac OS X v10.6 or later: Choose Password Reset from the Utilities menu.
Mac OS X v10.5 or v10.4: Choose Reset Password from the Utilities menu.
Mac OS X v10.3: Choose Reset Password from the Installer menu.
Tip: If you don't see this menu or menu choice, you're probably not started from the disc yet.
Note: The default keyboard layout is U.S. English while started from the installation disc. If you use a keyboard layout other than U.S English, use the Input menu (the flag icon on the right side of the menu bar) to select the desired layout before typing a new password.
Select your Mac OS X hard disk volume.
Select the user name of your original administrator account.
Important: Do not select "System Administrator (root)". This is actually the root user. You should not confuse it with a normal administrator account.
    Enter a new password.
    Click Save.
Click the red button in the upper left corner to quit the application.
Choose Quit Mac OS X Installer... from the Mac OS X Installer menu.
    Click Restart.
After following these steps, you'll want to also follow the steps in this article.
Mac OS X v10.6: Resetting the original administrator account password on a Mac that has no optical drive
These steps require a second computer that has an optical drive.Note: If the second computer is a Mac, make sure Mac OS X v10.5.3 or later is installed. If the second computer is a PC, make sure the DVD or CD Sharing Update 1.0 for Windows is installed.
Open "Remote Install Mac OS X" from the Utilities folder.
    Follow the onscreen instructions.
For more information, see Sharing DVDs or CDs with Remote Disc.

  • I have a brand new Mac Mini (July 2014) with 16 GB RAM and 1 TB hard drive and I typed in my screen saver password today and it froze up.  Had to push the power switch and restart the computer.  Why, and what can I do to prevent this?

It shouldn't crash just because I type in my screen saver password.  But it did.  I had to push the power button to shut it down and turn it back on.

Freezes happen occasionally. Hard to pinpoint a cause. I wouldn't let it worry you as they are rare. If this happens often then post back as there may be something wrong.

  • NEW Album cover screen saver - where is it?

One of the cool previews posted on the apple site last month was the ALBUM COVERS screen saver. Album covers were creating towers, waterfalls and all kinds of other cool stuff. I can't seem to find this feature anywhere?
    Where is it?

I think this was actually just a core image file or something - I remember seeing it at a Leopard tech talk too.
Perhaps it's in the developer toolkit?

  • New 6301 Wallet & Screen saver

I have just beeen upgraded from a 62301i, which I loved to a 6301. I'm afraid that my problems are a lot less'techy' than the ones you're used to and I hope someone can help.
    1. My old phone had a wallet with a pin number, where I could store secure stuff. This phone doesn't seem to have that. Is there anywhere on the phone that I store info with a secure password or pin?
    2. I set my phone to use the Hide & Seek theme, for a while the screen saver (with the rabbit popping up) worked, but now doesn't. Also how do I get the clock to show when the screen goes black?

I think this was actually just a core image file or something - I remember seeing it at a Leopard tech talk too.

  • I have had my new 21 inch iMac for 2 weeks in that time my iMac has shut itself down by itself without any prompting from myself.  It goes to screen saver, then shut itself down can anyone provide an explanation for this occurrance

Hello, purchased my 21 inch imac 2 weeks ago within the last week I have notice my imac shuts itself down after a short period of time once the screen saver is activated.  Is there anybody out there who can through some light on this matter.  Is it a common occurance?  is there anything to worry about?  Should it happen at all?
    Tony

When you say it shuts down, do you mean it powers off, so that you have to reboot it to continue? Or does it merely sleep, or blank the screen?
