Screen Saver on One Display

Hi,
I was wondering if there was any way to run a screen saver on just the main display of an iMac and not the display attached through the video-out port.
Thanks,
Jason

Hi Jason
I know ScreenSaver takes over both displays!
A cool trick even better than ScreenSaver is to use iPhoto and build some slideshows with or without iTunes tracks, then play them on one display while working in the other!

  • Screen Saver Won't Display

The screen on my iBook is going black after 5 minutes instead of running the screen saver. I've checked Energy Saver and that doesn't seem to be the issue.

    kc,
The only obvious cause for this would be to have the Display Sleep time set earlier or the same as the Screen Saver start time.
It's also possible you have the screen saver set to start with a black slide. If you have a hot corner set, use that to activate the screen saver and check its ordinary behavior.
Mine fades to black on battery, where both are set to the same time, but goes to the screen saver on ACD power, where the SS is set to activate before Display Sleep.

    Barry

  • How can I change my screen saver to one picture instead of collage

I don't want the collage as my screen saver I just want one picture is there any way to change it

Open System Preferences>Desktop & Screen Saver>Screen Saver and select the '+'.  Select 'Add folder of pictures...'.    Have your desired picture in that folder and select it.
    Ciao.

  • Activate application when screen saver active or display asleep

I cannot activate an application when the screen saver is active nor when the display is asleep.
    Neither
    tell application "Safari" to activate
    nor
do shell script "open -a Safari"
work or log errors when run as part of a GUI script.
Does anyone know the reason or a workaround?

    I also tried
tell application "System Events" to tell process "Safari" to set frontmost to true
to no avail. I'm out of ideas, for now.
So, GUI scripting doesn't work if you schedule a script to run without the application being frontmost when the screen saver executes or the display sleeps?

  • Screen saver do not display at 15seconds

    hi everyone.
I need to set a screen saver to start at 15seconds in macOS X (10.5). This needs to be configured in a particular way since the screen saver is in an secondary account with no admin privileges and parental control turned on.
Basically in this account the user can only access the internet (through Safari).
Now, i've already defined the command "defaults -currentHost write com.apple.screensaver idleTime 15" (in the terminal of the administrative account)and it's works fine. But when i log into the account with limited privileges and run the same script the screen saver only displays after three minutes of inactivity.
    Any ideas?
    thanks

Try using 'su' instead of actually logging into the other account (if you're not already doing that).
In Terminal, while in your admin account, type 'su <15secAcct>' - of course without the quotes and with <15secAcct> replaced by the name of the account whose screensaver time you want to change. It'll ask you for the password for that account.
Then, enter your defaults command to set the screensaver. Type 'exit' to leave that user account and return to your own; then, 'exit' again to get out of Terminal. (Again, maybe you know this, but just in case...)
    That should work for you.

  • Screen saver will only display Flury option.  After upgrading to Mavericks I had many Apple pictures in my screen savers folder.  I deleted them and found that Flury was the only screen saver that functioned.

Screen saver in Apple prefrences will only recognise Flury as an option.  Any attempted to change the screen saver selection results in a lock up of Apple screen saver prefrences.  Forced shut down will clear the lock up, but dos not solve the problem.  I updated Iphoto and repaired permissions. Neither solved the problem.

I found a fix.  In the ~library/preferences/byhost directory.  My directory had a broken link.  I deleted it.  Rebooted.  The folder came back with various files and I was able to change my screensaver!  Good luck.

  • MacBook Pro can't detect my projector. Only displays screen saver

Tried connecting Optoma projector to new Macbook Pro. However only the screen saver is being displayed. When I go to Preferences - Displays - just says that no device is detected and gives no options to change anything. Did not have this problem with previous MacBook. Please help.

Assuming the drive is not defective I would guess you didn't install it properly. Most likely the ribbon cable is not properly connected. You do know you must partition and format the drive? See the following:
    Extended Hard Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger or Leopard.)
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Set the number of partitions from the dropdown menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (only required for Intel Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the volume(s) mount on the Desktop.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.

  • Screen saver  : loading photos too long with aperture 3.3.2

    Hi,
I've upgraded to mountain lion today and I've discovered an issue.
Screen saver does not display my aperture library (though I can select the aperture library and see clearly the photos inside)
It says 'loading photos' with a black screen and nothing more happen.
When I select a folder with small amount of photos (less than 10 for exemple), it finally works.
But I like to have my whole library targeted for screen saver.
I add that it was perfectly working before the upgrade, and Aperture was already in 3.3.2 before mountain lion upgrade.
Lion screen saver was working perfectly with my all aperture library and now it's a disaster.
Moreover, the new slideshows added in the screensaver are worse than the one with Lion. I particularly appreciated the "Polaroid" pictures with the date below.
Now I cannot have it anymore..
    So I have two questions ;
    1) Is there a way to speed up the loading of photos for the slideshows of screen saver ? A cache file ?
    2) Can I get back the previous screen saver of Lion ("polaroid" pictures with date below)
thanks a lot for your help
    I'm a newbie in Mac

    Hi Earnie,
Yes indeed I do have different versions for some of them but each version bears a different Version Name. Though I guess the Master Name being unique, it might be causing the trouble... That should not matter anyway and hopefully will be solved in a next update.
Thanks for the tip. I will investigate further and check all my photos.
    Cheers

  • Screen saver slide show keeps reverting to National Geographic photos?

Hi all - quick question about a minor annoyance.  I have the screen saver set to display photos from one of my iPhoto photo sets using the built in screen saver options.  For no apparent reason, it occasionally decides to stop displaying my photos and instead starts displaying the National Geographic photos instead, which is one of the options in the screen saver setup.  I can go to settings and change it back to my photos but it always seems to eventually go back.  I can't find any rhyme, reason or pattern to this happening - if its something that I am doing, I've got no idea what it could be.
Anyone have any idea how I might be accidentally causing this, or is this some sort of bug?  Any way to prevent it from happening?  Any help appreciated.  Not sure but I am pretty sure this did not happen before Yosemite.

  • "Ken Burns" and other photo screen savers scramble my display

I have a three-display Mac Pro which I have just upgraded to Mavericks.   My rightmost display is a Dell P2012H rotated 90º, and every time a photo-based screen saver activates, that display gets scrambled.  While the screen saver is running it looks like one of those tile-shifting puzzles being randomized, except instead of a single image it's a combination of the desktop and whatever screensaver image was being displayed.  When the screensaver deactivates, the display stays in whatever state it was last in while the screen saver was running, making that display completely useless.  In order to reset it I have to switch resolutions and then switch back.
If I un-rotate the display, or use a non-photo screen saver (such as Flurry) then everything's fine.
It looks like the problem may be display-driver specific, as I've tried rotating one of my other displays (A Samsung SyncMaster) and that does not experience the same problem.
This looks like a bug in the screen savers or in the display rotation code.  Anyone else see this?  I can probably live without the photo screen savers, but I'm wondering if I'm going to run into any other screen rotation bugs in Mavericks.

“...not use Ken Burns with vertically oriented photos...” -- WHAT!?!?!?!?!?! You’re kidding, right?
...I’m sorry, but personally, after Apple made the Ken Burn Effect completely USELESS for “portrait” oriented photos, I was both astonished and outraged, and have been hoping for a TRUE fix ever since. Sure, for video, later versions of iMovie do some nice things, but why on earth would Apple all of a sudden have made the Ken Burn Effect viable for only half of my photographs?!? I’ve created several DVD slideshows, most of them containing 80-90% still photos, and I am insulted by the suggestion that “padding” photographs (adding black to the sides of every “portrait” photo), via Automator or not, is the answer -- that is utter ridiculousness -- that feature should never have been removed in the first place!!! (ADD features Apple, don’t REMOVE them!!!) The only thing that would entice me to upgrade to iLife 11 would be having this simple, but to me, absolutely necessary functionality back.
...So, can you tell me if the Ken Burns Effect has been fixed in the latest iLife 11 version of iMovie to treat ALL photos equally?

  • Screen saver pictures are showing the wrong way

Some of the pictures in the Screen Saver are not displaying in their proper direction. The pictures in question show up correctly in iPhoto. Some of these may have been edited in iPhoto, but some of those that display properly have also been edited.
Not sure how to deal with this.
    TIA!
    AppleTV (2nd and 3rd Gen)

Install the 10.6.7 update, comes to mind. Additionally, move any screensaver files in your /Library/Preferences/ and ByHost subfolder to the Desktop, restart, reset the screensaver settings, and see if that fixes the issue. I, for one never use anything but the installed ones, but my mate uses family photos and my experience is that they're resized to fit.

  • Satellite L 555D-S 7005 reverts in seconds to screen saver when no activity

Out of the blue, laptop started closing working screen and back to start screen in secs if no keyboard activity. Impossible to read entire sentence & must scroll or tap mouse area to retain doc. Wait much longer and must enter password to return to doc again.
I tried resetting times for closing, sleeping, hibernating, everything I could think of and once actually fixed all. But lucky me had the gremlin return not long after. Unable to make correction again.   Please, all I know how to do is what I do all the time: on/off, and primarily internet research. This is driving me nuts. Help, help.  Thanks.

    Satellite L555D-S7005
must enter password to return to doc again.
Maybe we can use that to track down the problem. Let's make some tests.
    1. Set up your screen saver for one minute and clear the box On resume, display logon screen, so it won't take you there.
    2. Fix resuming from sleep by setting Don't require a password.
    See the two attachments.
What do you use for malware protection?

  • Can't exit screen saver!

My sister's iMac G5 goes into a screen saver or the display shuts off, or it goes to sleep and she/we can't exit the screen saver or black screen. The screen saver is always active--doing it's thing. It's not like a crash.
We move the mouse, press keys, etc., and the only solution is to hold the power button down until the computer shuts off and then press it again to start up the computer.
She has lost many a document this way.
Wake from sleep issues have plagued every version of Mac OS X since its inception. Apple has been trying to fix this problem, but it plagues every version of OS X.
I've run virtually every utility to try and prevent the problem but without success.
    Does anyone have any tips?

Try resetting the computer's PRAM by rebooting the computer and holding down the "options-command-P-R" keys all at once until the computer resets again and makes a second set of boot chimes. Then release the keys and allow it to boot normally.
Additionally, you might try creating a new user account to see if that also crashes when screensavers are activated. If things are fine then you might have to migrate her account to a new one, or at least be able to troubleshoot her current account.

  • 10.5.1 iTunes screen saver gone missing

I updated to 10.5.1 yesterday. Today before a presentation I turned off my screen saver (and sleep display). After the presentation I went to turn my screen saver back on and the iTunes album art choice seems to be missing!
The screen saver was working after the upgrade until this morning when I turned it off. All I want to do is find it to turn it back on.
    Help? Suggestions?

Thanks. I looked and the screen saver was there (along with other savers not listed. I am not sure what combination of things I tried next worked, but most likely it was simple doing a full shutdown, going to dinner and then restarting my computer which brought back all of the savers.
Not sure why they disappeared, but I am happy to have them back.

  • HUGE SECURITY HOLE IN LOGIN FROM SCREEN SAVER

One of the options in the security panel permits a user to require that a username and password be entered to login once the screen saver locks your account.
The option is "Require password to wake this computer from sleep or screen saver"
Although one would assume that the credentials required to wake the computer is the username/password of the account that was being used when the computer went into sleep mode or the screen saver. WRONG!!! Anyone with an account on the machine can enter their username/password and wake the computer and voila that user now has control of the machine as the former user. That's right you guessed it HUGE security hole.
Anyone thinking that they can wake away from their machine and have the screen saver or sleep mode protect their account after a specified period of time is sadly mistaken. Anyone with an account on the machine can enter their own username and password and drop right into your account right where you left off.
Can you believe this stuff? No warning, no release note to tell you of such a poorly designed "security" option.
Apple please fix what must have been an oversight or at least tell people about this intentional design BEFORE they find anyone can wake the computer and become you as a user.
    Thanks,
    JH

Anyone with a standard user account? Are you quite sure?

I never think that way. A more secure lock is ensured by using the screen lock feature of the keychain.
    Can you believe this stuff?
Not sure what stuff you refer to.
No warning, no release note to tell you of such a poorly designed "security" option.
Would you believe that anyone can access your computer? Stolen computers are regularly started up without much problem.

You are writing to other users like yourself here, not Apple.
