Screen Saver set to never

After upgrading to 10.6.5 on Saturday I am accumulating little issues. The latest one is when the computer sleeps a screen saver comes on. It is unwanted- I have the start screen saver set to never. I have reset the PRAM. Any other suggestions what I might do??? Thank you in advance

Move these out of your Preferences and ByHost subfolder onto the Desktop, restart, reset the settings, and see if that fixes the issue. If so, delete the moved files.

  • How do i change screen saver setting, it's on and i can't turn it off

ugh, can't view anything on the tv but the APPLE.  voice says screen saver is "on" and i can't find any documentation about screen saver.

You'd need to enable/disable/setup under Settings menus.
If you can't get out of it unplug the unit and restart.
If still no joy you may need to restore the unit connected to iTunes computer using a microUSB cable.

  • I have my screen saver set to my pictures, but I get a error is preventing this slide show from play

I went from xp to windows 7.

    Hi,
What is the screen of your machine ? Why do you need screensaver ? Did you know screens can sleep ? Did you know screensaver will destroy your screen faster ? Did you know running screensaver will consume more resource ?  To help us answer question quicker, please read this:

  • Screen Saver in 10.6.1 Activates When Set To Never Activate

    Anyone else having this issue?
I have the screen saver set to never activate in the System Preferences, having opted to use a hot corner instead, and still, after fifteen minutes, if I haven't moved the mouse cursor or hit a key, lo and behold, the screen saver comes on! It's the most annoying thing, especially if I'm compiling code which takes longer than that, or trying to watch a movie or Hulu or some such.
Add this to the other issue I'm having, whereby Mail in Snow Leopard often doesn't want to send outgoing email through my server at work. These seem like things which shouldn't be occurring in a commercial operating system, especially now that it's at a .1 release, meaning there's been time to recognize and fix bugs, and I know the Mail bug is a big one lots of people have complained about.

    delete the file homedirectory/library/preferences/byhost/com.apple.screensaver....
and log out/in. set your screensaver preferences again and see if they stick.

  • Screen saver keeps turning on even though I have it set to Never

In System Preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver > Screen Saver, I have "Start screen saver" set to Never. However, my screen saver seems to keep turning on after around 15 minutes! I think this only started happening when I upgraded to 10.4.3. Does anyone know why this happens?

No, the actual screen saver comes on (flurry). I do have the energy preference set to turn the screen off after 30 minutes. This works properly. The screen saver comes on after about 15 minutes, then the screen goes black after about 30 minutes. I have the screen saver set to Never come on though.

  • Screen saver options

Hi, new user here and am not impressed. Im trying and want to be part of the apple family but this is ridiculous-
    Ive tried all the help menus and other options to figure out on my own but am down to the option of asking the simplest questions here;
I have made a new folders in my Pictures and imported files to them - in the screen saver preferences panel it will not show any of these folders in my Pictures - it does however bring up everything that I have posted on FB which I really wish it would ignore...
I cant find a way to 'refresh' or locate the newly built folders - ?

Not all, but many users that I know have the screen saver set to never come on and just go straight to Display Sleep to save on system resources and there displays.
However if you want to use pictures as screen savers you will need to open iPhoto and import those pictures into iPhoto. Then open your screen saver preference and select them from the Albums or Events listed below iPhoto.

  • Set value of screen saver to never won't save

    So I wrote this script:
    tell application "System Preferences"
    activate
set current pane to pane "com.apple.preference.desktopscreeneffect"
    end tell
    delay 1
    tell application "System Events"
    tell process "System Preferences"
tell slider 1 of group 1 of tab group 1 of window "Desktop & Screen Saver"
    set value to 361
    end tell
    end tell
    end tell
which works quite nicely to set the value of the screensaver in preferences to "never"
The problem is, when system prefs closes or moves on to another pane, and I reopen it, the screensaver has not been set to never, it is back where it was before!
So what am I doing wrong?
    Please help!

The UI of System Preferences is geared to manual user input, so when you're writing a GUI script there is a penalty for using precise value adjustments like that. You'll have more success with the blunter user-like instruments, such as banging on the keyboard…
click here to open this script in your editor<pre style="font-family: 'Monaco', 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; overflow:auto; color: #222; background: #DDD; padding: 0.2em; font-size: 10px; width:400px">tell application "System Preferences"
    activate
set current pane to pane "com.apple.preference.desktopscreeneffect"
tell current pane to reveal anchor "ScreenSaverPref"
    end tell
    delay 1
tell application "System Events" to tell front window of process "System Preferences"
tell slider 1 of group 1 of tab group 1
set value of attribute "AXFocused" to 1
    end tell
    repeat 7 times
key code 124 -- right arrow
    end repeat
end tell</pre>Edit: this was meant to be a response to the OP, I clicked the wrong button. Good suggestion NS.

  • Screen Saver and Size of Background - Help, please!

    Hello there!
I have a brand new Dell computer from Best Buy. With my last computer (Gateway), I was able to set up an automatic screen saver of a slideshow of pictures if my computer was not used for a certain amount of minutes.
With this new computer, I have set up the same settings, but the screen saver NEVER comes on. I have clicked everything I need to, accepted, and saved the settings, but it never works. Any ideas?
I decided to try and fix it myself, so I went into the Control Panel, Appearance and Personalization, Change Screen Saver, and then went into Power Settings to see if maybe the display wasn't working for this reason. I cannot remember what I did, but now the background picture is HUGE.
To fix this, I have gone into screen resolution and display/power settings, but everything seems to be set to "recommended", so I cannot figure out what happened to make the images so large suddenly.
    1) Can you help me get the screen saver slideshow to activate?
    2) How do I get my background pictures back to normal size?
Thank you so much for your help!!! I really appreciate it.

Wow, so sorry for the hype delayed response. it could be that your laptop was timing out for powersave before the screensaver would kick in. The best thing to do is go into your screen saver, set it to 1 minute and then let it sit for a minute without touching it (with it plugged in). It should kick in. Again, most laptops cut the monitor off after just a few minutes to conserve the power of the battery. I'm glad that the other solution worked for you =)

  • Something's Wrong with my Screen Saver !!!

For some reason I can't seem to turn off my screen saver. I go to system preferences and swith the "start screen saver" to either "never" or "2 hours", etc and it goes off in like 10-15 minutes anyway. The weird thing is that it doesn't even go into the screen saver, the screen just goes black.
I tried testing the screen saver in the test mode and it works fine.
I'm wondering if the problem is because i'm using a Ben Q monitor instead of an apple one?
Anyways, it sounds like a stupid problem but it's REALLY making life difficult for me. If someone can help me it would SERIOUSLY make my life a lot easier.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Are you sure this is the screensaver? Check it isn't the display being set to sleep by going to the energy saver preference pane and ensuring that the display is not set to sleep after such a short time.
Also, while unusual, it's possible that your display has a 'sleep' or 'energy saving' mode, which could be set through it's menus. make sure there is either no such option, or that if there is, it is switched off.
Assuming neither of the above helped, does the power light on the monitor go from green (or whatever it's normal 'on' color) to something like yellow or orange when the screen goes blank? If it doesn't then the screen is still receiving data from the mini and it would thus suggest a problem with the display. If it goes yellow/orange then it means the mini is not outputting video data so the screen is going to sleep - which would suggest the mini or display is sleeping. If it goes off altogether, then the display is powering down and is thus at fault (possibly just a slightly loose power connector).
When this happens, can you bring the system back to life by tapping a key/moving the mouse/clicking a mouse button?

  • Slide Show Screen Saver Superimposed Images Flag or Ball -- Bug?

    Hi,
I have searched and found two other archived questions on this topic, but no real answers. Please help!
I have the screen saver set to do a slide show from the Pictures folder, where I have lots of family photos. This works fine, but about every 10th photo or so, it shows the picture, and the next image is the same photo, with a weird low-res ("jagged edges"), blown-up (full-screen), icon-like image in the middle, superimposed upon my image. It's usually circular, often has a national flag or comic scheme to it, sometimes has a face, and always has effects to make it look round like a ball, which it usually is in shape (though sometimes it's not circular). When I look, my images have not been altered recently and don't seem affected, so the problem seems to reside in the system, right?
I'm not a techie but I have used Mac since 1985 and remember reading several years back in one of the Mac mags about such a problem -- whether termed a trojan or whatever. I do have all my old Mac data and apps in a folder on my mini, so it's possible it could have been pulled over from my last Mac and a remnant of some prior vulnerability. But I've never seen this behavior before OSX, neither Norton nor ClamXav finds a problem, and I can't seem to find ref to that article by net searching or here. What causes this, and how can I solve it? It really bothers my mother-in-law to see pix of her grandkids with weird flags superimposed on them, and I'm wondering if this is some Mac problem with more serious consequences not yet discovered by Norton or ClamXav. Thanks.

    Screen saver
    Posted: Oct 3, 2006 11:24 AM
Whenever the slide show runs from my pictures out of iphoto on my screen saver, other pictures appear occasionally on top of my pictures. They are usually other country flags or weird shapes with jagged edges. Any idea how to keep this from happening or where these other pictures are coming from? Thanks.
    Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The problem is not with the screensaver but rather that the Pictures folder insists on having the iChat flags alias inside it. Since the screensaver recognizes aliases I have moved all my photos out of the "Pictures" folder and into another folder called "Pictures not screensaver". This is because the screensaver will show ALL pictures in the Pictures folder regardless of how embarassing they are. That leaves the Pictures folder for just aliases to pictures or folders of pictures. This allows me to control exactly what pictures are shown on the screensaver. It is an area of OSX that needs some improvement.
Regarding the superimposed images, that is normal. Those iChat icons are transparent, while JPGs are not transparent. Screensaver piles newer pictures on top of older pictures. If it piles transparent images such an GIF or PNG on top of previous pictures they may be transparent and cause an alarming effect.
I have imagined this feature could be used in some cool way but have never seen anyone do it. For example, nice JPG backgrounds with semi-transparent PNGs on top with zooming animals. I suspect Apple will introduce such a screensaver in 10.5.

  • G5 MAKES JET NOISE when put on screen saver

When my G5 goes in to screen saver mode the cpu freezes and the G5 makes loud jet noise like it's about to explode. What is wrong?
    Thanks
    Kobi

Some screen savers not supplied with OS X can cause problems.
If you are using a screen saver to save the screen, it is not necessary with LCD flat-panels (apparently).
You could try not using a 'screen saver' (set 'Start screen saver' to Never); and just have Display Sleep in Energy Saver set to your chosen interval.
If this doesn't work you could move 'com.apple.systempreferences.plist' from yourusername/Library/Preferences to the desktop.
If this helps, trash the 'com.apple.systempreferences.plist'
file on the desktop (a new one will have been generated by System Preferences) You may have to reset some of your preferences.
Post again if none of this helps.

  • Why has my screen saver stopped working

I am new to Mac....2 days ago my computer would show a variety of screen savers when the comp was not in use. Now it goes onto hibernation mode only. I have to push the power button to wake it up. I went into system pref and made sure that the setting were on random and i tested it... but it still will not show the screen saver. Can someone tell me how to get this back?

Make sure your Screen Saver settings are not in conflict with the Energy Saver settings in System Preferences.  If you put your display to sleep before the screen saver, you're never going to see it.

  • W520 screen saver wont work with external monitor.

I have a Dell 30" U3011 monitor connected via display port.
I have the computer set to "projector only" (when you hit windows-P).
There are no controls on the monitor to tell it to sleep.
In Windows 7, I have the screen saver set to "blank" after 10 minutes.  However, it never goes blank after 10 minutes - the screen saver never kicks in.
In the windows powerplan, I have it set to turn off the display after 15 minutes when plugged in.  It never turns of the display.
I have it set to dim the dipsplay afer 10 minutes to 0% brightness.  It never dims the display
In the Lenovo power manger,  I have "screen saver" ticked under Global power settings->Dynamic brighness control.  I cant find any more display saving type options under the lenovo power manager.
Its the standard Lenovo factory install of windows.
It works fine when using the internal Lenovo panel.
I have two dell laptops with windows 7, and neither has this problem - only the Lenovo.
The problem is, if I leave the computer on for say 5 hours, I come back and the screen is burnt in with the windows I have open. The monitor cost £1400 - I its as expensive as the Lenovo. If it came down to the lenovo or the montior, I think I would go with the monitor.
Any one got the same problem?
Putting the machine to sleep every time I leave the machine for more than 10 minutes would be a temporary workaround, except for the huge bug on the lenovo  "forgets" my external mintor settings when it wakes up - and goes back to the internal panel.  When I reboot, it always gets it right however, it does remember that I am on projector only.  However, rebooting every time I leave the machine for half an hour would requireme to wait for several minutes while the machine boots up - so thats not an option either.

  • Screen Saver - photos no longer available for screen saver

I had screen saver set up to display my photos. I can't remember if the photo's were pulled from Aperture or from MobileMe. Now I get a message that there are no photos in the folder or no pictures associated with the subscription (MobileMe). This seems to have happened after the 10.5.6 upgrade the other day.
Has anyone else lost their photos in screen saver with the 10.5.6 upgrade? How can I get these photos back?
    Thanks

For the last one week, when i get the link from skype.com and drill through the link, it said "The mobile phone is not compatible". And i got the s60 symbian version's skype installable from my friend and tried t oinstall and use.
I received a warning message when i tried to install for compatibility check, i neglected and proceeded. I was not able to work with the installed one.
Finally and fortunately, ovi.nokia.com provided the compatibility version of skype which ia m using fine now.
    Thanks for the reply,

  • New MacBook Pro, fan goes crazy on iPhoto screen saver

I just got a new 15in MacBook Pro (running Lion of course) with the following specs:
       - 8 gigs RAM
       - 2.2 GHz
       - 500 gig 7200 hard drive
I had my screen saver set to cycle randomly through 350 pictures from my wedding. Within 1 minute of the screensaver activating, my fan kicks in full speed. When I go into Activity Monitor (while the fan is still going nuts) no processes are using more than 7% CPU. Within a couple of minutes of resuming work, the screen saver dies down and everything is fine.
Does anyone know why this is happening? I'm a programmer and even having multiple applications in active use, the fan doesn't kick on. If I switch to Arabesque screen saver, the fan doesn't act crazy. I suppose it's not a big deal to use a different screen saver but there's no logical reason for my fan to go insane when all it's doing is cycling through some pictures.
I did try the steps to reset the SMC but it did not seem to solve the issue.
    Any help appreciated!

You were right One of my other iPhoto albums must have corrupted pictures because I went to a backup that contained only the wedding pictures and everything is fine. Always nice when the answer happens to be something simple!
    Thanks!!
