Screen Saver using A3 Library

Not major, but after upgrading to A3, I noticed that in SL System Preferences>Desktop & Screen Saver, it no longer recognizes my Aperture library. With A2, I was able to have the screen saver cycle through my Aperture library. Any ideas?

Right, in Desktop there's an "Aperture" line item that doesn't do anything. In Screen Saver, there's no trace of Aperture.
This is actually a problem for me as I tend to use the screen saver to let images "sink in" before I publish an album.
I'm guessing this will get sorted in 10.6.3.

Is it possible to set screen saver to iphoto library on another computer?

I have all my photos on an iMac; I have a mac mini connected to my flat screen tv which we use to watch movies (netflix, amazon video, itunes, etc). I would like to set my mac mini screen saver to the iPhoto library located on my iMac. Is this possible?

Do I need to have iPhoto installed on both computers? On the mac mini, when I select the screen saver source choicelist I only get the pre-installed options and a "choose folder". I can navigate my iMac from this option however, the iPhoto library icon is greyed out...
What am I doing wrong? I do have iPhoto shared on my iMac from the iPhoto sharing preferences.

Screen Saver (using iphoto folder) - 2 questions

New imac....thanks for the input. Two questions with the screen saver that uses random iphoto folder pics.
1. The resolution on some pics looks horrible (I thinked they must be zoomed in), but even on ones that are not, the pics look more grainy then when I see them in iphoto at roughly same size. Any suggestions?
2. Wife liked the ability to scroll through the screen saver pics in Windows XP but hitting right arrow button. THis would not disengage screen saver and should could see all the pics. Anyway to do this on Mac...she would LOVE to know!

For starters... here is information for slideshows/screen savers available to use with a .mac account:
Using a .Mac slideshow as a screen saver
You can use a .Mac member's public slideshow as your screen saver.
To set up a .Mac screen saver, you need the .Mac member name of the person publishing the pictures. You do not need to be a .Mac member to see a slideshow or use it as a screen saver.
Open a web browser and visit a website to make sure you're connected to the Internet.
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Desktop & Screen Saver.
Click Screen Saver, then select .Mac in the Screen Savers list.
Click Options, and enter the .Mac member name in the .Mac Membership Name field.
The slideshow is downloaded to your computer. When it's finished, you can disconnect from the Internet.
To publish your own slideshow, you need a .Mac membership. To learn more, visit www.mac.com
And rule of thumb using your own photos as a screen saver: If the pictures look fuzzy, try using larger pictures (such as 1024 x 768 pixels).

Took 3 seconds to find a great article via google. Tricks, tips and project sample.
But as stated, if you're looking for someone to write it for you, outsourcing code seems all the rage.

About screen flow (using tag library)

dear all, i have the following problem...
according to the sample about using tag library to make the screen flow of jsp pages, i successfully construct the tag for showing pages as needing. it works ok but when the number of pages exceeds 29, an exception arrises:

java.lang.VerifyError: jsp_eventmanager_html.template
in which template is the jsp page for the tags... i do try to set the size of the buffer but it does no help.
can anyone help me solve this problem? thanks in advance...

ARD 3.3, cannot unlock screen saver using alternate admin account on 10.6

I have some machines that are running 10.6. Sometimes users are logged in, with the screen locked. I make sure that a password is required to unlock the screensaver. I should be able to take over these machines and unlock the screen with an administrator account. That is not working on more than one machine that is running 10.6. That is hosing up my ability to support them until I can get the user to unlock the screen for me.

The reason this is an issue is that end users have to be administrators in order to install software updates by themselves. It is not a good practice to have local users running as admins, but that is unfortunately necessary in some environments. Anyone know how to remotely kill the screen saver process as root through ssh?

Is there a way to get the screen saver on user "a" to use iphoto pictures from user "b"?

Is there a way to have the iphoto screen saver use the photos from a different iphoto user? My husband leaves his account open and he has only old photos when the screen saver kicks in. I would like to have my photos be able to pop up on his screen saver. I need to find them in the system preferences screen saver place, but have it access my iphotos and not only his. How? Also, I would like a better system on organizing my photos.. I have them all in events by year and it is difficult of often find favorite specfic photos. Thank you. Melody

In short, no. The whole point of different accounts is to keep your data separate from his, and your photos are your data.
You could share a library? It can be a bit complex.
You can use Fast-User switching to switch over to your account - takes a couple of seconds
As to organising your Photos - iPhoto is a database and offers pretty much unlimited options for organising your pics, but it takes a bit of work to go beyond the basic and automatic.
If you take the time to assign Places then you cn see all the photos in your Library based on where they were taken. (Of course, that's of limited use if they're all taken in your backyard ) Faces means you can sort the Library based on who's in the Photos.
Beyond that, simple thigns like naming the Events will help - Xmas 11, Bobby's Wedding, Rome 2009 and so on. You can then search on those basic words in the search box.
After that: Keywording. The following is a canned answer I use to describe my system. It may spark some ideas for you.
I use Events simply as big buckets of Photos: Spring 08, July - Nov 06 are typical Events in my Library. I use keywords and Smart Albums extensively. I title the pics broadly.
I keyword on a
Who
What
Where basis (The When is in the photos's Exif metadata). I also rate the pics on a 1 - 5 star basis.
Using this system I can find pretty much find any pic in my 40k library in a couple of seconds.
So, for example, I have a batch of pics titled 'Seattle 08' and a typical keywording might include: John, Anne, Landscape, mountain, trees, snow. With a rating included it's so very easy to find the best pics we took at Mount Rainier.
File -> New Smart Album
set it to 'All"
title contains Seattle
keyword is mountain
keyword is snow
rating is 5 stars
Or, want a chronological album of John from birth to today?
New Smart Album
Keyword is John
Set the View options to Sort By Date Ascending
Want only the best pics?
add Rating is greater than 4 stars
The best thing about this system is that it's dynamic. If I add 50 more pics of John to the Library tomorrow, as I keyword and rate them they are added to the Smart Album.
In the end, organisation is about finding the pics. The point is to make locating that pic or batch of pics findable fast. This system works for me.

Locating pictures used in Screen Saver (Previously loaded)

I've noticed that the options for screen savers such as Beach, Cosmos, and Abstract are quite interesting and was wondering if it's possible to locate the folder where these images are stored. I would like to use them as a background if it's even possible to discover their location. Thanks.

this is an easy one
Just go to "/System/Library/ScreenSavers/" and right click on one of the
screen savers. You will see a contextual menu, showing an entry "Show contents".
Select that and then in the open package go to "/Contents/Resources/" and you have
access to all the pictures the screen saver uses.

Can I create an album of select photos to stream was screen saver when listening to my iTunes library on my apple tv

I have a new apple tv that I am listening to my iTunes library. I have approx 800 photos in my iPhoto library. The screen saver chooses the same small number of photos and keeps on playing them over and over again. Can I expand the number of photos that are displayed? Can I create an album of photos to display?

The screen saver uses the photo stream so if you can create a new stream and place the images you want the screen saver to show and then select that stream it shoudl do want you want.

Can i use a web page as my screen saver?

Does anyone know of a (free) way to have my mac display a web page of my choosing as its screen saver?

If there's not an RSS feed for the page, you might try IdleWeb.
Furthermore, to use Web pages with an RSS feeds in the RSS Screen Saver, they must first be bookmarked in Safari. Once you've bookmarked the RSS feeds you want, you can use one of them as the feed displayed in the RSS screen saver using the instructions in either of the following articles:
• "Safari 2.0 Help: Displaying an RSS feed's articles as a screen saver."
• "Mac OS X 10.4 Help: Setting up a screen saver"

Screen saver can't be disabled; starts when it feels like it

I have a weird problem with my screen saver. I had to shut down my Mac mini (G4, 1.42GHz) manually via the power button a few days ago, and ever since then, the system refuses to obey the "Start screen saver:" time delay preference in System Preferences. I'd always had it set to "Never", but now it always starts after the standard time interval. I've since discovered that even if I set it to 3 minutes, it still waits a half hour or so to start (I'm assuming it's the default delay).
I've checked for corrupt preferences in my home and main Library directories files using plutil, but they're all good; I booted with the restore disc to repair any startup disk HDD errors in Disk Utility (there were some errors, in what files and of what vintage I know not, but I was able to fully repair the disk and now no problems are reported); I've even trashed and re-set my screen saver .plist file (~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.screensaver.SOMEHASH.plist) a few times. From the looks of things, the Screen Saver preferences pane is recording the correct idle time and screen saver in the .plist file, it's just not honoring the idle time. It does, however, allow me to change the screen saver itself. I don't have any screen savers installed that didn't come with the system -- I've been alternating between the iTunes and RSS ones since I can't choose 'None'.
Any ideas on how to fix this? I can't emphasize enough how much I hate screen savers (no offense to the programmers, they're just not my thing!). It's especially frustrating that I have to leave the computer sit for a half hour just to test any possible solution...

So after some time it stopped doing it. Then it started again. I still don't know what the issue is, but I do know what causes it.
When I plug in an external monitor to the DVI port, the sreensaver disregards any mouse movements on the the extended display, and goes into screensaver mode. If I disconnect the monitor the computer continues to act as it does when the monitor is plugged in. What I've done to remedy this is use the laptop in clamshell mode, disable the screensaver, then disconnect the monitor.
This seems to remedy the problem. Hope this helps anybody else with similar issues.
PS External is Samsung 930b 19" (for what its worth)

IPhoto and mosaic screen saver in OSX

I use the mosaic screen saver, which pulls photos from iPhoto. Recently, I've been getting blank pictures in the mosaic-I have not deleted any photos recently. Is there a way to rebuild the pictures that the mosaic screen saver uses? I've got iPhoto 09, but the problem was also there when I was using 08.

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.

Is there a sway to save a screen saver for sharing?

I made a screen saver using a folder of pictures and I would like to share it with Family, is there a way to save it.as a.mov file?

You should have iPhoto already installed as part of iLife. If so, then take the same folder of images you are using in Screensaver and use iPhoto to make it into a slideshow. You then select Share and "Send to iDVD" where you can set it up the way you want and burn to a DVD. If you like, you can instead select all the slides in iPhoto, go to Export, select the size, and a .mov file will be created. The largest size available is 640x480, whereas sending to iDVD creates a somewhat larger 720x640 movie.
