Screen Saver will not always turn on

The screen saver doesn't always activate. If I go into system preferences and 'test' the screen saver, it will later turn on after the selected time (15 minutes). But I often come back to my IMac after several hours, and find that the screen saver has not turned on. I have clicked 'use random screen saver' and that is often unselected when I check it again.
I am the only on who uses this machine, and I have only the default screen savers, no add ins.
I have burned the itunes image in the screen after only 8 months of use. Very frustrating.
Any ideas?

  • Screen backlight does not always turn on

Lately I've had trouble with my iPhone 4S backlight. The backlight does not always turn on when I wake the phone from sleep.
I've tried turning off the auto-brightness, but it does not help, the same behaviour continues. When the backlight is not on toggling the auto-brightness button or adjusting the brightness or covering the ambient light sensor have no effect, the backlight stays off. Usually it just randomly turns on after I put the device to sleep and wake it up. And no, my cover does not block the sensor either.
Has anyone else encountered the same problem? And what could I do to try to fix the situation? Should I try installing it as a new phone or is it possibly a hardware issue?

I've tried the restart and reset options, both turn the light on just after I've done them, but the same trouble can start when the device goes to sleep next. But, I guess I'll have to try the other two also.
And yes, I do have the latest software, though the problem originally started with the older software. Then it stopped for a while but now it came back and is more frequent.

  • My Photos as Screen Saver will not 'save'

When I select my own album or event to use as the screen saver for my new apple tv, it never seems to 'stick' or save. Everytime I come back into the room, or the next day it seems that the screensaver is reverting back to the built in 'animals' photo slideshow for the screen saver.
I find this incredibly frustrating because all my other apple products (iPad, iPhone, etc) have a great memory and remember all of its settings, etc....
    Any ideas?

In all honesty, my Apple TV 2 has been flakey since day one; it was always losing connection to my wireless network (I would have to input the password at least once a day) and now I have the issue with the photos not playing in the slideshow as they should.
I went ahead and I just restored the whole apple tv and so far it appears that everything is working ; I am staying connected and my slideshows are the album that I selected. So far so good.

  • Screen Saver will not recognize photos in iPhoto

I changed the name of a few photos in iPhoto (I have thousands) and now the screen saver prefernce panel says that I have no photos in any folder. In iPhoto all the pictures seem to be present. Any suggestion as to how to access the iPhoto photos for my screen saver.

Where did you change the name of the photos?
Navigate to the iPhoto Library folder (when iPhoto is closed)
Drag the Album.xml file to the desktop.
Launch iPhoto so it will rebuild the file.
Now check Screensaver preferences and see if it helped.
You can also highlight an album within iPhoto and click the desktop icon. This will open screensaver preferences where the album you chose within iPhoto will be chosen to use a desktop or screensaver.

Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    Reinstall Mountain Lion or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet

  • My ipod 4g has a frozen white screen and will not turn off, any advice?

My daughter's ipod 4th gen (only 4 months old, bought direct from Apple) suddenly has a frozen white screen and will not turn off. We cannot reboot it by pushing and holding the two buttons, even when held up to one full minute. When we plug it into the computer, the computer does not recognise it nor does iTunes, so we can't even do a full system restore. Help! Any suggestions of how we can reset to factory settings without using iTunes please?

    - Let the battery fully drain. After charging for at least an hour try :
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

"Desktop & Screen Saver" settings not saving upon reboot. Settings are always set back to factory default upon computer startup. Need help! Please!

    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. You can demote it back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:20 ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    resetpassword
That's one word, all lower case, with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’renot going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Some apps "use cellular data" will not remain turned off

some apps "use cellular data" will not remain turned off
No matter how often I go to settings>cellular and turn off the apps, as soon as I close that screen they automatically turn back on.
I prefer not to delete the apps and reload them as I will loose the data in them when they are removed.
    Thanks for the help.

First thing and easiest thing to try is a device reset:
    Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
    1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
    2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
    3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.
