Screen saver won't shut off

My screen saver has recently been activating itself. All screen saver settings in System Preferences>Desktop&Screensaver are set to never. All Energy settings are set to Never. Accounts>Administrator>Startup Items are limited to System Events.
Any ideas as to what is making the screen saver turn itself on?

Hello Winkler,
You might try this:
System Preferences>Expose' and check what's called "Hot Corners." It will be the upper most part of the pop-up window. You can set it to activate the screensaver whenever you mouse is moved to the corner you choose.
Hope this helps.

  • My Screen Saver won't turn off on my I-Mac. Is there a way to fix this?

I have an I-Mac that every once in a while won't turn off it's screen saver when I move the mouse. I can see the mouse move and switch to the screen with the caculator, but I am unable to get the screen saver to stop and view the screen proper.
It has been updated with mavericks, but was doing this before the update. It's set to update on a weekly basis, so It should be good in that department.
so far, any suggestiosn I have been able to find haven't stopped this from happening. i'm looking for a way to exit out of the screen saver.

Have you tried going to System Preferences/Desktop & Screensaver/Screensaver, and choose "Start after Never"? That turns off the screensaver. Then, under System Preferences/Desktop & Screensaver/Desktop, choose the image you want. You can vary the sleep by playing around with System Preferences/Energy Saver, and playing around with your preferences.

  • Frozen screen 30GB won't shut off won't play

    Hey folks,
I just got this Ipod and downloaded all of my Itunes onto it. I was playing the Ipod on shuffle song mode and it stopped. Full battery, purchased song and nothing. The screen says now playing, but it's not. I can't turn it off or connect it to my computer and it remains illuminated. Help???

I'm having what sounds like a similar problem -- when I start to play after the iPod has been "off" for awhile, the icon indicates that it's playing, but the indicator on the bar doesn't move and the time indicator doesn't change, and nothing happens. Sometimes it starts to play after 5 seconds or so, more often it doesn't.
I have been able to reset (toggle hold, then hold down center + menu) but it's still an annoying problem, and I think I'll probably take it in for service.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

I Have an Apple IPad tablet.it is a 32 gb. IOS 8.1.3 when I try to shut it down I know there use to be a bar that you slide to close it.but now I can't find it . I held the button down for 10 to 20 seconds but it still won't shut off. If I let it go during the nite while  I sleep I can hear it makeing  a dinging sound like I get when a notification  shows up. but it won't completely shut down . How do I get it to shut off.

TTry a reset. Hold down on the sleep AND home buttons at the same time - for 10 seconds or so - until the Apple Logo appears on the screen. When the logo appears, let go of the buttons and let the iPd start up. After it starts up, then try to shut down again.
BTW, I amost never shut my iPads or iPhone off. I simply let them sleep. I recharge the battery when needed but always while the iPads or phone is still powered up.

  • Screen saver won't start since Lion upgrade. Two different machines, same issue.

Screen saver won't start since Lion upgrade. Two different machines, same issue. Help

For anyone following this thread, I've found a solution to my problem. Turns out that a cute widget called FishTank appears to be the culprit. With it running in Dashboard (even when I don't see Dashboard) the Screensaver and Sleep functions don't work. I turned it off, not because I'm clever, just because I tired of it, and voilà, Screensaver and Sleep are now working. It can stay in my widgets list without any problem, it just can't be turned on. I'm going to delete it anyway, however.
Hope this points the way to solutions for some of the rest of you!
    Cheers!

  • Won't shut off

My MacBook Pro won't shut off.  I click the Apple.  Then, I click "shut down".  The screen goes gray and the spinning gear starts.  But, it never shuts down.  I eventually have to press the manual shut down button on the keyboard.  Solution???

It happened to me before but after I repaired the disk permissions, my mac runs a lot smoother now, so I recommend you to go to Applications>Utility>Disk Utility. Click on "First aid" then go to the top left corner and click on your hard drive then click Verify Disk Permissions, then if some errors pops out and when verification is complete click "Repair Disk Permissions" then restart your Mac. This will make your mac run a lot smoother. Try this at your own risk. If anything bad occurs do not blame me.
If you do not want it to happen again, I recommend you to download this: http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/11582/onyx
This Application helps you to keep your mac running smooth.
    Hope this solution helps!

  • I wasn't able to access my email on my pad, so I tried to shut it off, thinking I needed a software update.  Now my ipad won't shut off.  Any ideas?

My email was a white blank screen on my ipad.  Thinking I needed a software update, I tried to shut it off.  Now all I have is a black screen and the "working" logo in the center, but it won't shut off.
    Any ideas?

When you reset the iPad, wait until the Apple logo appears on the screen before you let go of the buttons.
Hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

It has already been 6 days from your post, my apology for responding so late, but it is my habit to help only the leftovers, which the other contributors missed.
Toggle the hold switch make sure there is no red showing.
To reboot an iPod. (Or RESET in Apple iPod jargon)
Press Menu and Center button for about 10 secs till the Apple logo comes ON , this would not erase any data from your iPod.
I would advice you to leave the iPod charging for about 4 hours, if it has been discharged for 1 year or more, and also Apple recommends that you charge the iPod at least once a month, to prevent a discharged battery leakage, which may corrrode the circuitry in the iPod.
Hopefully you don't get the dreaded RED X on the iPod screen.
    Good Luck!
