Screen says "Charging" when its not plugged it!

My ipod nano battery gets drained every night because it will not shut off! It works fine when Im using it, but when i go to shut it off, the screen stays active with a large Battery flashing saying "Charging". (Its not plugged into anything). Have updated to latest software, have tried restore... many times. have tried Reset many times. No luck. Need suggestions please.
Black Nano 2g   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I have a similar problem i think. After i remove the ipod nano 2nd generation i get the charged screen. After i push any off the buttons, the top-left battery icon shows the plug (fully charged) icon instead of remaining battery.
Tried the 5r's off course but it didnt help.
Any help is appreciated. thanks
