Screen share movie issues (Mac)

I'm trying to stream a movie to my friend by using screen share and my computer's Dvd Player but when they try to view the Dvd screen it just shows up as a grey/white checkerboard for them however they can hear it. I don't understand why it's doing this and it seems like many other people have had these issues in the past. Please help us. We were so excited to finally be able to watch movies together and now we can't.

Probably a DRM issue. Something is telling your software that a second screen is being used and its not authorized too. http://www.cnet.com/news/hdcp-2-2-what-you-need-to-know/

    Greetings.
I have three Macs:  a MacBook Pro (mine)  at site A, and two iMacs at site B (friends).  All three have Mountain Lion.  All three have their firewall turned off.
I am seeing strange issues when trying to screen share.  I can share my screen, but I cannot successfully request to see theirs - connection/port issue.
Also, if they attempt to share their screen from their side: no go.
Why would it work one way but not another?  Is there a port being blocked on either of the two site's routers?

I finally isolated what the problem was after several days of trouble shooting this problem. I am not going to go into any trouble shooting specifics, but here is what the solution was:
    1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences.
    2. Choose View > Sharing.
    3. Click the Firewall tab.
    4. Click New.
    5. Choose VNC from the Port Name pop-up menu.
    6. Click OK and close system preferences
I am really befuddled as to why I only had to use this solution on the G3 Tower B/W since it had Mac OS X 10.4.11 installed on it just like two other Mac’s my local network.

  • How can I use screen share of my mac mini?  Problems validating

I recently purchased a mac mini to act as my home media server for audio as my airport express was not playing nicely with my Peachtree DAC.  Anyway, I have set up sharing on the mac mini and can't figure out how to connect from my wife's Macbook, or her iPad.  (I use a PC, so would welcome advice if available on how to connect across platforms as well.)  My goal is to set up the mac mini without a monitor or keyboard connected to it and have it sit with our main stereo.
I am able to connect to the mac mini via my wife's macbook IF I ask for permission and I grant it from the mac mini.  However, I am unable to connect no matter what I try if I try to log in as a registered user.  I have tried to add her as a user to the mac mini, I have tried to log in as a guest, and I have tried to log in with a password but no matter what I try, I get an authentication error when I try to log in as an authorized user.  For more clarity, here is what I have tried:
    1.  Added authorized users on the mac mini.  I created a user name for "jeff", "maureen", and "lastname_maureen" on the mac mini and provided a password for each user.  "jeff" and "maureen" are just created on the mac mini, and "lastname_maureen" is the user name of my wife's computer.  I confirmed the passwords, and still am unable to connect.  I have allowed any user on the network to access screen share, and no matter what I do I get an authentication error.  Again, if I attempt to log in from my wife's computer by asking permission, it works fine but I can't figure out how to set up an account to login.  Please help.  Thanks!

Have you tried connecting one to the HDMI output, and another to the Thunderbolt port (with the appropriate Mini DisplayPort-to-other connection adapter as needed)?

  • After the 10.9.2 upgrade I can't screen share with any Macs using Back to my Mac.

I did the 10.9.2 combo upgrade on a bunch of Macs I manage and now I can't use Back to my Mac for screen sharing on any of them. Does this upgrade mess with the original settings? Any suggestions? Anyone else see this?

Back to my Mac has been unreliable for me (and a lot of other users) ever since the Mavericks upgrade, 10.9.0.
I find that if I turn all screen sharing off, then back on again, remote macs can share my screen. But the fix usually lasts just a few days, sometimes as little as 24 hours.
So everything depends on me remembering to open Sys Prefs and then toggle Back to My Mac (in iCloud) and Remote Login, File Sharing, and Screen Sharing (all in Sharing) in the morning before I go to work. If I remember, I'm able to do screen sharing that day from work. If I forget, I'll get errors when I try to Screen Share via the link that appears under Shared in the Finder sidebar. The link is reliably present in the Finder sidebar, it just doesn't work if I haven't refreshed the Sys Prefs settings.
Hope this workaround is helpful. Wish they had a more permanent fix.

  • Screen Share Mac and Windows

    Hi,
Sometimes I'm asked to help friends and family with stuff on their computers. It would be handy if I could help them remotely but I've yet to find a way to screen share between a mac and windows machine over the internet.
    Is it possible?

    HI,
A Leopard 10.5 tutorial here might help...

Sharing your screen with other computer users
You can set up your computer to allow others to view your screen and control your computer. While your screen is shared with another computer, a user of the other computer sees what’s on your screen and can open, move, and close files and windows, open applications, and even restart the computer.
    To set up screen sharing:
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Sharing.
    Select the Screen Sharing checkbox.
To specify who can share your screen, select one of the following:
All users: Select this if you want to allow any user with a user account on your computer to share your screen.
Only these users: Select this if you want to restrict screen sharing to specific users.
Click Add + at the bottom of the Users list and select a user from Users & Groups (accounts you have set up in Accounts preferences), Network Users (users on your network), or your Address Book. Or click New Person and enter a name and password to create a sharing account. Then select that user from the list and click Select.
Click Computer Settings and set the following options:
Anyone may request permission to control screen: Select this to allow anyone on your network to request to share your screen.
VNC viewers may control screen with password: Select this and enter a password that VNC viewer applications can enter in order to control your screen.
It’s recommended that you not set a password if you only share this computer’s screen using the built-in screen sharing viewer in Mac OS X.
For more information go to your Finder and click Help from the Menu Bar. Type in Screen Sharing in the search field.
I use the same instructions for screen sharing betweeen a Mac running 10.6 to a Mac running 10.5 and a Mac running 10.4, so hopefully the above instructions and links will help.

  • Screen share on Macs

I'm trying to help someone use screen share on a Mac. We're
running Breeze 5.1. I tried it and was unsuccessful. Does the
screen share function work on only specific versions of IE? Or
specific versions of the Mac OS?

With connect Pro 6 I've done screen sharing with Macs and PCs
and had no problems. You may want to talk to the reseller you
purchased your Breeze system from or feel free to PM me to get you
on a current Maintenance and Support contract so that you are sure
to have the latest version of the products.

  • Screen Share-No audio

I just set up my mac mini snow leopard server. I have an external hard drive connected to mac mini with movies on. When I do a screen share on the mac mini with my macbook air I don't receive audio. Suggestions?

If the drive itself is mounted on the mini, and is included in the items shared from your mini, you could just try to watch it directly by opening via a media player installed on your Air. Because you'd be pulling it from the drive, then to the mini, then across the network this might be slow and stuttery. Other options involving media center applications like XBMC, or my favorite Plex can perform media serving functions which can also transcode the content for better quality streaming. VLC also has a server version which you could run on the mini and watch via VLC Player on the Air. These solutions are designed around exactly what you want to do.

Just thought I would give this a bump. I recently transferred over to a new computer (I did not import/migrate settings, I reentered them. No longer can I VPN into work. Running 10.5.7 I have entered in the correct DNS settings and the domain. No errors, it says I am connected but I cannot contact any servers or file share. Any thoughts?

how do I share movies/music between my computers. I have opened shared on both computers and both are on, but i am not able to drag anything from one to the other. Does anyone know where the settings button is on the bottom of the itunes screen?

Oops, I forgot a step between 7 and 8 ... before syncing the iPhone I need to explicitly send the document back to iTunes on the iPhone, or the changes won't come over at all ...
and then one more thing ... Numbers on iOS does NOT recognize a number of key features of the OSX app, such as conditional formatting ... so after editing my document on iOS and syncing it back to OSX on my Mac, all of those settings are lost (no more conditional formatting, have to do it all over again)
What am I doing wrong ?

  • Screen Share issue!

Screen share works when i connect from my mac mini to my macbook, but the other way around, i can only access my file on my mac mini from my macbook, there is no option for screen share, even though i have screen share activated on both machines. vnc does not work either. Little help?

    Hi Harshini,
    Please help us help you.
You will need to give us some more information if you want the Community/LCCS team to help you with this issue,.
What is the issue exactly? How would you want this feature to behave?
Should it stretch the image of the shared screen to fill up the black space?
Wouldn't that create a new issue though? ("hey guys! the screen is stretched when the publisher/subscriber have different resolutions").
JG & I gave it a quick try with ConnectNow (my screen was at 1920x1200 pixels and his was at 800x600 pixels). ConnectNow is a web conferencing application that uses LCCS' screensharing feature (among other features).
Everything works as expected (if the resolutions are so far off, usually the person watching with the higher resolution will see some black space around the shared image).
    Thanks,
    Julien

  • Mac Mini drops out of "Shared" status in Finder of iMac - can't screen share-

I have a 27 inch mid 2010 iMac (with the WiFi problem fixed) 10.8.2
I also have a new 2012 Mac Mini. 10.8.2 + OSX Server (no monitor or keyboard/mouse)
(Both are connected via WiFi to a  FIOS - Verizon/ActionTec MI424WR-GEN3I router.)
Randomly, the Mac Mini dropps out of sight to the iMac -- i.e. it no longer shows up in the "Shared" section of the Finder and, consequently I can no longer "screen share" with it.
However, OSX server continupus to serve up web pages as expected -- I can ssh into the Mini from the iMac with no problem (i.e. IP connectivity is fine). My Epson WiFi printer and my son's XP based PC show up in the "Shared" section of the FInder. Only the Mac Mini is missing.
At that point, the only way I know of to get the Mac Mini visible again is to do a "sudo shutdown -r" and viola it reappears in the Finder on the iMac.
Is there some other way to get the Mini to show up in the Finder of the iMac?
Is there some kind of "wake-up" command  I can send from the iMac to the MIni via ssh?

Looks like half of the issue is answered... The WiFi in the mini DOES support WOL, as does the iMac.
However, the basic problem still remains --
The Mini is NOT sleeping, but actively running as a server 24x7 -- web and mail (I run my own domain) -- and I can log in to the mini via ssh -- but it is NOT visible as a shared device in the Finder on the iMac, and I cannot use screen sharing. Since the mini has neither keyboard nor monitor, I have to remotely reboot it via ssh - i.e. "shutdown -r" to get it to re-appear so I can screen share.
The timing is an isue. This "disappearence" seems to happen infrequently and irregularly, but has happened twice since I acququired the Mini on "Black Friday," not quite 30 days ago. If it were a simple "sleep" issue, I would have expected it to happen "hourly" or on some such frequency.
So, since WOL does not appear to be an issue in and of itself, I suspect I'll have to try to find out if "Shared Screen" is an "Advertised  Service" via BSP.
Your link to http://superuser.com/questions/306651/wake-macbook-on-wi-fi-without-airport-extr eme is providing a lot of pointers. Now to spend some serious "Google time."
Since I'm working with the Verizon/ActionTec MI424WR-GEN3I router (FIOS), which seems to handle all of the various protocols without issue, I may have to dig out my old Airport Extreme.
Now retired, I sold my old 4 story Victorian and moved into a one-floor one-bedroom, and don't need the multiple routers I used to run to inorder for WIFI to cover the house. Sigh.
And to think "I thought" I retired from the world of System Administration
I have a query in to ActionTec to see if they have a configuation Option I have not "deciphered" which will deal with the WOW issue.

  • I work on dual screens on a new mac pro but when I do the 4 finger swipe it moves both screens, is there a way to move just the screen that is active?

I work on dual screens on a new mac pro but when I do the 4 finger swipe it moves both screens, is there a way to move just the screen that is active?

Multiple desktops and dual screens really aren't meant to work together. Apple came up with this multiple desltops feature and never really thought about users that use a dual monitor setup. So use either multiple desktops OR dual monitors but not both. Also don't try to use any App in Full Screen Mode as that doesn't work with dual screen setups either.
