Screen Share with audio

I need to be able to hear the audio through THIS computers speakers, from a computer I'm screen sharing in another room of the house. I seem to only be able to get audio from the computer I'm sharing, not this one I'm using to control that shared computer.
Is there any way to get the audio to come out of the controller computer, not just the host computer?

difficult, after all it's screen sharing not audio sharing.
you could try ichat. it allows a screen sharing session with audio enabled. but if you play the audio through speakers, it's likely to create a feedback loop because the sound that is played through the speakers is picked up by the mic, which plays it on the speakers and so on.
I think with OS X system tools this cannot be achieved, sorry

  • Can't Video Chat or Screen Share with iMessages to iChat?

    So I just recently got a new MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion to replace my white MacBook running Snow Leopard. I noticed iChat has been replaced by iMessages. All of my other Mac friends still use iChat. I didn't think this would be a huge difference, but I can no longer video chat or screen share with them.
    I send them an invite, and they get an IM saying "[account] has sent you a video chat request". I'm registered under my AIM account, and so are they, so that's not the problem. When they send me invites, nothing happens. I get no notification, and it just shows "Waiting for response from [account]."
    So I thought "okay, I'll just re-download iChat from a third-party site".
    The download link just takes me directly to Apple's page about Mountain Lion. So that's out.
    There's no option in my security on iMessages to override this issue and allow unknown developers. I have "Allow AOL's servers to relay video chats" option selected under Privacy, and that does nothing, either.
    What's the deal? Can I no longer video chat (or screen share) with "third party" chat clients via iMessages anymore?

    Hi,
    I have tested my Messages (Ver 7.0.1 in OS X 10.8.2) to various versions of iChat (3, 4 and 5)
    iChat 3 can send invites and open Video (Or Audio Only) chats to Messages.
    The iChat 4 and 5 can Video Chat To and From Messages. (I was using AIM as I have more accounts I can play with)
    I have even done 3 way Video chats in both Bonjour and AIM login using Messages and iChat 4 and 5.
    I have just double checked between Messages and iChat 4 Offering the Messages Screen to the G4 (iChat 4) and I was successful.
    Screen Sharing requires a Random port for the VNC connection that does the "picture" bit.
    However if you had it working in iChat then this should still be working in the Messages set up.  (Basically your router is doing UPnP or is an Apple Base Station doing Port Mapping Protocol)
    Also iChat will not work in Mountain Lion (even if you grab the iChat 6 version)
    Each version is very specific to the OS version it is with.
    For instance during OS X 10.4 it got to OS X 10.4.11 but during those same increases iChat got to  version 3.1.9
    There was no update to Messages until OS X 10.8.2 making Messages version 7.0.1
    Those small changes tend to mean that version 7.0 will not work with OS X 10.8.2  ( or the other way round)
    It is all to do with the support apps and frameworks that help the app to work.

  • I need to screen share with my parents Mac

    Both I and my parents have Macs.  I am c careful to always keep our Macs updated to the same OS X level, so when they have a problem, I can step through it with them, relatively confident our screens look the same.  A better solution would be to actually see their screen.  i have seen ways to connect to my own Macs remotely, or another Mac on the same Apple ID.  Neither is the case here.
    I would like to screen share with my parents computer.  It is not one of my machines, nor does it share an Apple ID.  I don't need to control it, just be able to see their screen and watch what they do.  When I am on with AppleCare they sometimes screen share.  They can maneuver a red arrow around on my screen.  They have no control, but they can point and tell me where I need to click.  That would be awesome.  Can we do anything like that?
    Thanks for the help!
    Jeff

    I've found TeamViewer (http://TeamViewer.com) is really good. It's free for personal use and you install it at both ends. For unattended access (where your parents don't have to do anything for you to log in) you would set up a personal password. Or they can launch it using a dock shortcut and give you the one-time ID and password.

  • Leopard Screen share with 2 monitors

    Screen share with Leopard is one of its best and most useful features for me so far. I'm doing it a couple times a day.
    I have dual 20" screens. In Screen share, both show up on the other person's mac. If they have a laptop, that makes for very tiny viewing, because both have to fit on theiir screen.
    If I turn on the mirror feature in the Monitors Sys Pref, then only one of the screens shows up. But on my end all open windows cram into one monitor.
    What would be much better is if there could be a way to not turn on mirroring, and just be able to show the one monitor that has the menu.
    This probably isn't doable right now. I'm just mentioning it in case someone comes up with a hack or method.

  • Can't video chat or screen share with one person

    Hi, I can video chat and screen share with one remote colleague but not with another. When I try, I get the message 'Failed to start screen sharing because: Screen sharing could not be established' (and a similar message for video.
    He has a brand-new iMac with Leopard, so there is no compatibility issue.
    This would be very useful for us, can anyone suggest a solution?
    Thanks
    Phil

    There are various threads on getting iChat to work with various routers. There are a couple of Support docs that talk about it, but I always have trouble finding them, now.
    Use the 'more options' search function and show posts in the last year instead of the last 90 days, which I believe it defaults to.
    One thing I know of is Internet Sharing cannot be turned on. Another common problem is double-NATting, where their modem is serving out addresses via NAT and the Router is sharing those out on its own NAT. You should only have one running.

  • Screen Share-No audio

    I just set up my mac mini snow leopard server. I have an external hard drive connected to mac mini with movies on. When I do a screen share on the mac mini with my macbook air I don't receive audio. Suggestions?

    If the drive itself is mounted on the mini, and is included in the items shared from your mini, you could just try to watch it directly by opening via a media player installed on your Air. Because you'd be pulling it from the drive, then to the mini, then across the network this might be slow and stuttery. Other options involving media center applications like XBMC, or my favorite Plex can perform media serving functions which can also transcode the content for better quality streaming. VLC also has a server version which you could run on the mini and watch via VLC Player on the Air. These solutions are designed around exactly what you want to do.

  • After the 10.9.2 upgrade I can't screen share with any Macs using Back to my Mac.

    I did the 10.9.2 combo upgrade on a bunch of Macs I manage and now I can't use Back to my Mac for screen sharing on any of them. Does this upgrade mess with the original settings? Any suggestions? Anyone else see this?

    Back to my Mac has been unreliable for me (and a lot of other users) ever since the Mavericks upgrade, 10.9.0.
    I find that if I turn all screen sharing off, then back on again, remote macs can share my screen. But the fix usually lasts just a few days, sometimes as little as 24 hours.
    So everything depends on me remembering to open Sys Prefs and then toggle Back to My Mac (in iCloud) and Remote Login, File Sharing, and Screen Sharing (all in Sharing) in the morning before I go to work. If I remember, I'm able to do screen sharing that day from work. If I forget, I'll get errors when I try to Screen Share via the link that appears under Shared in the Finder sidebar. The link is reliably present in the Finder sidebar, it just doesn't work if I haven't refreshed the Sys Prefs settings.
    Hope this workaround is helpful. Wish they had a more permanent fix.

  • Screen Recordings With Audio

    Hi, I use Windows 7 and have the latest version of Quicktime installed on my computer. I do not see a screen recording button in my Quicktime. How do I go about recording a screen with audio? I have the pro version of Quicktime. Thank you.

    QuickTime Player Pro (Mac or PC versions) doesn't include any screen recording feature.
    QuickTime X (Mac only) does have screen recording options.

  • Screen mirroring with audio

    I'd like to create a wireless link from my mobile to a TV for screen and audio. I've tried a miracast dongle but only the screen was cast, no audio, don't know if that's a limitation of my phone or the dongle. Any help appreciated.

    You can try Netgear PTV3000 but find a decent deal with ability to return without any reason.
    I have one and it's a mixed bag of success and failures. Mostly failures like dropped frames or choppy audio.
    EDIT: If you look for something that you put into TV anyway think about MHL to HDMI. It has it's own issues but is much stable solution.

  • Quicktime screen recording with audio

    i want to record audio that is played by a software running on Mac when recording the screen.
    there seems four microphone setting: none, built-in input, soundflower 16ch and 2ch. but none of them worked properly.
    i found a software called iShowU that can record audio but not free.
    is there anyway to record screen and audio with quicktime?

    I would think soundflower could do this as screenium uses it to do just what you are saying. But I have not been able to do it natively on QT X

  • Problems with Screen Share with Back to My Mac

    Hi everyone, I'm at a loss right now... I had Screen sharing previously working with my fathers Macbook air (using my apple ID) so i could help him with troubleshooting from time to time.  I just recently did a clean reinstall of Mountain Lion on my iMac.  I am in the process of setting everything up again but it doesn't seem to be working. I have done what the directions call for but it's still not working.  Not sure if it has to do with my clean install and having to redo something on my fathers computer too.  another strange problem is that in the sharing section of my Macs system prefs, under screen sharing I am unable to remove any users from the Allow Access for section.  the button does nothing at all.  can someone do a step by step on how to make that connection to my fathers computer.  and yes Back to my mac is turned on on both computers.  thanks
    ps. I just noticed that i have a couple of Unknown users under my
    Allow Access for section, and i can't delete them either.

    I see that. The problem is that the log in choice only lets me share the screen of my admin account. I want to share the screen of a standard account which is where I do all my work. So I connect to the standard account and then when I go to share the screen I get the "share screen request"
    I just tried to log out of the admin account and into the standard remotely and that worked. Strange way to do it but as long as it works I'm fine with it.
    Thanks for the response, it did solve my question because  it helped me figure out how to do it.

  • What does OS10.5 use to screen share with Windows and Linux ?

    i have found screen sharing Mac to Mac is EASY
    but lets say i want to see the screen on my Windows XP computer
    OR my Linux Ubuntu or CentOS desktop Computers
    what do you reccomend and is there anything else i need to know
    thanks in advance

    First, I trust you have the firewalls open for the needed port(s), e.g. 5900, 5901, etc.
    Then, from what I've played with, the Leopard Screen Sharing app only connects to VNC servers that are configured for VNC Authentication (or no authentication) and that are using only Protocol 3.3.
    Depending upon the version and implementation of the VNC Server, you might have to pass startup commands like this:
    vncserver --SecurityTypes=VncAuth --Protocol3.3
    (and of course, have a VncAuth password set, e.g. with vncpasswd.)
    I'm not sure how, or if, these settings can be configured in Vino (the 'Remote Desktop' option in Gnome,) but if starting vncserver from an entry in /etc/sysconfig/vncservers, it might be like this:
    VNCSERVERS="1:username"
    VNCSERVERARGS[1]="-geometry 1420x790 -depth 24 --SecurityTypes=VncAuth --Protocol3.3"
    (and again, you'd need a vncpasswd set for the username starting the VNC server.)
    Now, only Vino does the automatic Bonjour RFB advertisement, which makes the VNC server show up in Finder (without which, you'll need to manually start Screen Sharing.)
    However, you can create the Bonjour advertisement in Linux by creating a file called /etc/avahi/service/rfb.service
    and filling it with the following text:
    <?xml version="1.0" standalone='no'?>
    <!DOCTYPE service-group SYSTEM "avahi-service.dtd">
    <service-group>
    <name replace-wildcards="yes">%h VNC Server</name>
    <service>
    <type>rfb.tcp</type>
    <port>5901</port>
    </service>
    </service-group>
    and then, doing a:
    sudo /etc/init.d/avahi-daemon restart
    In the Windows VNC Server (at least the one by RealVNC), there is an advanced button (or a Legacy tab) where you can find the option to set "Protocol 3.3" to true. And, on the security tab, make sure you have it set to "VNC Password Authentication" (configured with a password set) and NOT to "NT Logon Authentication". Unfortunately, I don't know how to set a Windows machine to make the necessary RFB service Bonjour advertisement to get it to show up in Finder. However, if you got a Bonjour/Rendezvous Proxy (e.g. http://ileech.sourceforge.net/index.php?content=RendezvousProxy-Download , for the Mac, I like the Java version, the native one is PPC.) and ran it on your Mac (or the Windows machine), you could simulate the adverstisment -- just create an proxy entry for a rfb.tcp service, pointing to port 5900 on the IP address of your Windows box.
    Finally, even once you connect to a 3rd party VNC server with the Screen Sharing app, every so often you'll get a 'no encryption' warning -- of course, because Apple doesn't talk RealVNC's encryption and vice-versa so it connects without encryption.

  • QuickTime: Screen Recording with audio from Flash video?

    I saw a short flash video on a website that I wanted to save. SO I tried using the new QuickTime's Screen Recording feature, but no matter what options I use (Line input or Internal microphone), I get no audio.
    Is this because Flash won't allow it, or am I doing something wrong?

    just figured this out myself today. you're on right track.
    open system pref and go to SOUND - got to OUTPUT tab and choose soundflower (2ch) as your OUTPUT
    open safari and open a new window - drag SWF file into that. it should play in the browser window. hit pause on the video.
    open quicktime. go to NEW SCREEN RECORDING, and use the arrow to the right to open options. Choose sound INPUT as soundflower (2ch). do not raise the volume in the record window - keep it at lowest possible else you'll get an echo.
    you are ready to roll.
    so the browser will be outputting sound to soundflower, whilst the quicktime screenrecord gets input from soundflower. works like a charm. sounds great.
    good luck.

  • Can video/audio chat but not screen share

    Have been trying to screen share for the first time. Audio and video chatting work fine, but when trying to screen share with the same user it fails due to "unknown connection error". We are both using .mac accounts.
    Firewalls are turned off. The only thing I have noticed in looking into different reasons why this might be happening is that my connection doctor says I have a "symmetric router". It is a linksys WRT160Nv2.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
    Welcome to the    Discussions
    How have you got the ports ichat needs open in the Linksys ?
    The Screen Sharing uses a random port that is not handled if you are using Port Forwarding, DMZ or Port Triggering.
    Cancel/Disable any of the Above and go to the Administration page and enable UPnP
    (Apply/Save Settings)
