Screen Sharing.app Gone?

I used to have /System/Library/CoreServices/Screen Sharing.app in my Dock for quick remote access, but it seems to have been removed in 10.10. Does anyone know if there is a Yosemite equivalent to Screen Sharing.app and if so where it's located?

  • Connecting to office computer remotely using screen sharing app

How do I connect to my office computer using the screen sharing app in the system?
Are there complete instructions somewhere that I can read?
I have a computer at home and at the office, both with sbcglobal router connections to the internet. I have read that /System/CoreServices/Screen Sharing.app will allow you to connect to computers over the internet, but the article I read did not have much detail.
So say my work router hardware internet address is 123.12.23.123
When the window open after I click Screen Sharing, do I put that address in there?
Is there a port I need to open at the office?
Is there some internet address for my computer besides the sbc 172.12.1.23 address that I should use instead?
Screen sharing has a computer setting under sharing "VNC viewer may control screen with password: abcdefg"
Where do I find more information about Virtual computer networking and how I can do it with my may and the software apple provides.
    I appreciate your help.

The only way I have been able to do this is to use logmein.com to access my office computer, then using iChat, accept the invitation to share my office screen. One connected, I can log off logmein.
Has anyone found an easier way?
    Thanks

  • USB Numeric Pad doesn't seem to work in "Screen Sharing" app.

I have a MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion. Recently, purchased a new Targus AKP10AP USB Numeric Pad however, it doesn't seem to work in "Screen Sharing" app but seems to work fine in other apps. Screen\ Sharing.app doesn't seem to be able to recognise the numpad. If I connect a regular usb keyboard all seems to work fine - just the numpad doesn't seem to be recognized.

First and foremost, XP SP2 is EOL on security updates. If possible I would strongly recommend Windows 7 instead.
When you install XP, or Windows, fully upgrade first, then add Apple drivers, get it working fine. They say that 15 minutes is enough time to compromise a default XP install, and used as a "honey pot" to test what malware is circulating.
I don't know about McAfee (I guess Google must) but for now or next time, try with just MS Security Essentials, free and gets high marks, it works.
There are probably a lot of things to learn on a daily basis.
But make sure what you install is current and compatible. And have backups and restore points so you can go back to earlier stable system state.
And yes seems like the Windows partition or OS is not functional.

  • Audio through Screen Sharing.app but not Remote Desktop?

Can anyone enlighten me as to why audio from a remote Mountain Lion machine can be heard through the Screen Sharing.app but not Apple Remote Desktop? Do they use different protocols?

Your ssh command should look something like:
    ssh -L 22590:localhost:5900 remove.mac.system.address
    Then you connect using
    Finder -> Go -> Connect to server -> vnc://localhost:22590
Have you been doing anything close to that?

  • Screen Sharing.app fails through ssh tunnel with "You cannot control your own screen"

I need to control a remote Mac mini running 10.7 through an ssh tunnel.  I've set up ssh with -L for the appropriate ports, and bound my local ports 5900 and 5800 through this.
When I connect to 127.0.0.1 with Screen Sharing.app on my macbook pro which runs 10.8.4, it says "You cannot control your own screen" however, screen sharing is not enabled locally on my machine, I'm trying to access a remote machine.
I tried something else.  I created an alias IP of 127.0.0.2 on lo0, and tried again, and got the same thing, so it's doing an ifconfig and looking through all the IPs to see if the IP address of what I'm trying to connect to is bound locally, which defeats the purpose of tunneling through SSH.  I don't wish to setup a VPN.
How do I let the Screen Sharing.app know that I'm not trying to connect to my own machine and it should skip this check.
I've also tried with another app, Chicken of the VNC, and that almost works.  It connects and shows a login screen desktop to the target machine, but I'm unable to click on any of the account icons displayed in order to login, and all key presses such as tab, space, and enter are ignored.
When at the location (on the same vlan as the target machine) I'm able to remote into it just fine with screen sharing.app, but Chicken of the VNC has the same issue of showing a login screen, but not allowing logins to it.

Your ssh command should look something like:
    ssh -L 22590:localhost:5900 remove.mac.system.address
    Then you connect using
    Finder -> Go -> Connect to server -> vnc://localhost:22590
Have you been doing anything close to that?

  • Can't connect using screen sharing app

This has been an ongoing issue for a long time.  Some days I can connect from my macbook pro to mac pro, both running mountain lion using the screen sharing app - some days I can't,  Rebooting doesn't seem to help.  I can always connect by opening finder, selecting the machine and clicking share screen.
EVERYTHING is configured properly - which is why it works some times.  I've had similar problems between other combinations of mac mini, imac as well.  The error I get is:
"Please make sure that Screen Sharing (in the Sharing section of System Preferences) is enabled on the computer to which you are attempting to connect. Also make sure your network connection is working properly."
    Is this so hard?
    me

Using screen sharing at transcontinental distances is commonplace; there's no "other networks" setting here.
There's the IP network and firewall and ISP network configuration, and whether that (in aggregate) allows connections from elsewhere can connect to reach port 5900 (TCP) or whatever you're using.
And whether screen sharing is enabled on-LAN; via System Preferences on Client or via Server Admin on Mac OS X Server and punched through the applicable host-local and upstream firewalls, of course.
As for what IPsecuritas might be blocking or might be routing, you need ensure that passes port 5900 (TCP).

  • Screen Sharing app missing

As of 10.10, I no longer have access to the Screen Sharing app, it was normal found in /System/Library/CoreServices
I was using this tool on a daily basis to control my one server. I also use the terminal as well. But a lot of times, you just need a finder and a screen.
Any ideas where the app went? And is the alternative now using a third party VNC client?
The shared clipboard was a nice feature, and used that also a lot.
    Cheers

Select your server under the Shared section of a Finder Window sidebar. Then you'll have the option to screen share from it.
I have no idea why you were going into Core Services...

  • I accidentally deleted Screen Sharing app from my Macbook Pro (Mountain Lion). Can I download it again?

Any chance of finding this as a download?

    Hi Carolyn;
Well it seems like I wasn't as stupid as I thought. I initially thought I'd deleted an app called Screen Sharing from my applications folder, as after I'd finished my session of deleting unused apps, the availablity of the "Share Screen" button in the Finder window (under the "Connect" button) when you click on a shared computer in the home network was gone.
    Now it seems it's back.
    Problem solved!

  • Screen Sharing app does not open

I have a mini and a Cube connected on a local network. When I first upgraded to 10.5 I was able to share screens in both directions. A few weeks ago the screen sharing application on my mini quit opening. When I choose to share a screen with the Cube I can see the "Screen Sharing" menu bar for 1 second then it quits.
    Any ideas what happened ?
    Thanks,

Check Applications>Utilities>Console for error messages after the sharing attempt fails.

  • Certain apps crash when opened while screen sharing

Hello all, I'm looking to see if anybody else is experiencing what I'm experiencing.  I have a Mac Mini (MacMini2,1 - Core 2 Duo - Mid 2007) that I use as my families iTunes server.  This box runs as a headless device and serves up our iTunes library to all of the computers in the house.  After installing Lion on here, I have found that if I Screen Share to this box from one of the other Macs in the house and try and open certain apps (like App Store) or sometime even if I try and simply open a finder window they will crash.  The crash doesn't bring down the whole box, the apps simple crashes and I get the "report to apple / reopen" window.
I think the issue might be related to the GMA 950 and some driver issue with Lion but I can't be sure.  I do know that if I put a head (monitor) on this unit and try running apps natively (not remote over screen sharing) they work just fine.  One last piece I have noticed is when I am remoted in to the box and TimeMachine is backing up the screensharingd and screensharingagent are chewing up most (75%) of the available CPU.  This whole issue is very strange and I'm trying to decide if I should just blow this box away and start over?
Anyway, let me know if you have any ideas and or if you have seen something similar.

I am having a similar if not the same problem with my late 2009 Mac Mini running Mac OS X v10.7 Lion.  When I try to use remote desktop to it after it has gone to sleep, screensharingd will complain with:
screensharingd[45619]: 3891612: (connectAndCheck) Untrusted apps are not allowed to connect to or launch Window Server before login.
screensharingd[45619]: kCGErrorFailure: Set a breakpoint @ CGErrorBreakpoint() to catch errors as they are logged.
Apparently when the mac mini comes out of sleep there is something that causes the digital signature of the screen sharing app to be invalidated.  Perhaps a time of day issue or something similar is temporarily causing the app to show up as having an invalid digital signature and causing screensharingd to freak out and hang.

  • Screen Sharing display of Finder app lags & black patches

I'm trying to share the screen of a headless Mac Mini with a Retina MBP over ethernet (via thunderbolt display and time capsule) using the built in screen sharing app, and my fourth generation iPad over wifi using a VNC app. My problems are as follows:
    - intermittent black patches over the screen which I have drag a window over, or move a mouse over, to make disappear. This only happens on the Retina MBP, and doesn't happen on the iPad. This is considered solved in another thread, but the solution was to update Apple Remote Desktop which I do not have installed.
    - On both Retina MBP and iPad, the outputted display does not update when I make a change in the Finder application. E.g. say I create a new folder. I will not see the folder I have created until I drag the window elsewhere.
This problem is the same regardless of the display quality (full or adaptive), or the resolution.
    I appreciate any help.

  • IChat Screen Sharing Disabled

I have a MacBook 2GHz Intel Core Duo running Leopard and I've been having some problems with the screen sharing. I know people have asked this question before but I can't seem to get a straight answer. I've tried to share screens with another computer running Leopard but I can't even get to the option. The Share Screens with .... and Ask To Share Screens with .... are grayed out and I've gone into the system preferences and added the computer to my shared screens list. It's all on too.
I can share screens through the screen sharing app but no luck on the iChat. If someone could help that would help out a lot. Thanks in advance.

    Hi and welcome to discussions,
Do you, your computer and your internet access meet all these requirements please?

Actually.... you personally don't have to!

  • Screen Sharing and scale

I just got 2nd monitor on my home system. The system I want to "screen share" from also has a second monitor. So, when I do screen share, it only will scale to the size of my monitor. I can't grab the bottom right corner and make it scale up to span my two home monitors.
If I turn off scale to fit available space, then I can get it to span monitors. But then, it's too big on the screen.
Does anyone know how to "scale" it so that it spans two monitors?

    Opps,
    Just spotted something
    defaults write com.apple.ScreenSharing controlObserveQuality #
This s not an iChat setting. It is not a .plist to do with iChat
Most likely it is the setting for the Screen Sharing App. (see System Preferences > Sharing)
The app can be invoked by going to the Go Menu in the Finder > GO to Server and starting the line with VNC:// (Instead of SMB or AFP)
The app that runs this is "hidden" in /System/Library/CoreServices and not in the Applications folder.
I take it this was the Hint ? (which says it is VNC connections = plain Screen Sharing).

  • Screen Sharing and Wake from Sleep

    Hi,
I'd like to know if there's any way a Screen Sharing request from a remote vnc client can wake a Leopard machine from sleep. I've opened the vnc port on firewall, tested screen sharing while its awake... all good. When the target machine is asleep though it doesn't see the request as "Wake for Ethernet Administrator Access" I guess ?
Has anybody found a way to do this? I spoke to Apple support but they suggested I try Discussions.
    Cheers.

None of the file sharing or screen sharing apps actually send the WOL packet. You can have launchd watch the screen sharing app and then send the WOL signal when you use it. There will be a slight delay but it does work. You need to download and install wol as it does not ship with osx. You will also probably want to get "lingon" so you can set up launchd easily.
Commentary: I find it ridicules that this stuff isn't already built into the apps. Electric costs money and using it unnecessarily is a waste. Yet not one of the apps or tools designed to work over ethernet with another computer sends the wol command. Its like the developers expect you to have your computer on 24/7.

  • Screen sharing and remote management no longer working after some uptime

    Server is withoiut monitor.
Users need to login via screen sharing from time to time.
"Enable screen sharing and remote management" is ticked in Server.app everything is working fine (for days, weeks).
ARD reports "Screen Sharing Available", so remote management is not running how it should.
    Screen Sharing.app is "Connecting…" forever.
Kickstarting ARD (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2370) does not help.
    Restart fixes it.
Is there a workaround (over ssh) or a fix?

    Do you know if
    fdesetup authrestart
    works then too?
Off-hand, no.   I don't.  See this posting, or as would be typical in any case, try it?
