Screen Sharing bug (erroneously activating Spaces and Dashboard)

I'm a recent upgrade to Snow Leopard, and also, as it turns out, a complete newbie to Screen Sharing, which generally works quite well.
My one hitch is that under certain circumstances, the remote machine activates Spaces or Dashboard when I don't want it to. Those circumstances are clicking on one or multiple files, and then attempting to drag them somewhere while holding down the mouse button. For some reason, this problem does not occur while, say, dragging a Finder window around on the desktop.
I have hot corners for Spaces and Dashboard in the top-right and bottom-left corners of my screen, respectively. However, the accidental activation occurs when my cursor is nowhere near the screen corners. I thought it might have been issue with scaling, but the same problem occurs without scaling. I also have a hot corner in the bottom-right for display sleep, but this never seems to activate accidentally.
I guess I could disable hot corners, but I'd prefer not to. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

No; my local machine is a MBP and I was only using the trackpad. When I get home I'll check to see if the side buttons are enabled on the remote machine (iMac), but I doubt that's the issue.
Thanks for your reply.

  • ARD Screen Sharing is distorted at top and blank on sides

    Hi there,
    I'm having an issue with screen sharing on Apple Remote Desktop and also screen sharing through the Finder.
    When I screen share with a Mac Pro which is connected to a projector the screen share looks like the image below:
    The top is distorted and there is a large black bar to the right.
    Would this have something to do with the screen resolution or interferrence between the Mac Pro monitor and the attached Projector?
    This issue occurs even when the Projector is turned off.
    Also, the mouse is not correctly lined up on the screen share, so to click on a text box I need to click a bit above the top of the text box.
    The Mac Pro is part of a Mac Pro suite of 17 Mac Pros and I am having the same issue connecting to the troublesome Mac from all of the Mac Pros in the room. However, there is no problem connecting to a screen from the troublesome Mac. In this case, the image is fine.
    The Mac Pro is a Mac Pro5,1 2.8QCX/10GB RAM/1TB/5779/SD (mid 2010). It is connected to a EIZO FlexScan S2202W LCD monitor and Hitachi ED-X42 projector. We're running Mac OS X 10.7.1.
    The Mac Pros are all connected via ethernet on a Local Area Network.
    All Apple and ARD software is up to date.
    Any help with this issue is much appreciated.
    Thank you!
    Lawrence

    Hi Brandon and slepping, thanks for the advice. Unfortunately none of your suggestions worked for me.
    However, I think I've solved it!
    I think it's to do with synchronising the screen resolutions of the monitor and projector.
    Originally my projector resolution was set much higher than my monitor resolution.
    I've lowered my projector resolution to the same resolution as the monitor and the screen sharing works much better now. Check the image below:
    I'm sure I didn't have this issue in Mac OS 10.5 and 10.6. But hey ho, maybe a niggling bug that needs to be ironed out in Lion.
    Thanks for all of your suggestions.

    Thanks a lot for your help Julie! That worked.
    I have a followup question. Now, I get the Login view even though I didn't include a login view in my custom activity space.
    I am trying to develop the custom login activity space and don't want to display the default loginview and want to auto login. So I have created a custom activity space and a custom control. I am not sure if I have everything coded correctly yet. How do I make sure I don't display the login view if I go to my custom space directly?
    What's the best way to do this? I am still trying to go through the PT code and understand it. Any pointers would be very helpful.
    Additionally, for the custom activity space: do I need to extend PlumtreeAS or AActivitySpace ?
    I have my code listed below:

  • Remote Management and Screen Sharing hang on activation

    Hi,
    I'm trying to activate Remote Management using the Sharing System Preferences pane (http://images.macfixit.com/images/ScreenSharingFigure2.jpg) but after I click the checkbox, the whole System Preferences dialog becomes unresponsive and I have to kill it. I get the same behavior when trying to activate Screen Sharing too.
    Remote Management starts fine with the kickstart command:
    sudo /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/k ickstart -activate
    Any idea what's going on?
    Thanks!

    This doesn't appear to be a question about Apple Remote Desktop, which is a separate package for managing networked Macs, so you may want to take this up in the Mac OS X 10.5 Networking forum. But yes, as long as you can get the network set up correctly on both ends, you can share a screen from anywhere in the world. Using iChat's screen sharing feature usually works out better when working from a mobile Mac, though; fewer issues with routers and firewalls. LogMeIn is another service that many people have reported using to good effect.

  • Screen sharing bugs?

    Hi,
    I have several problems with screen sharing:
    1. When closing the browser window the "Adobe Acrobat Connect Pro" tab on the bottom is still running.
         When doing it several times I'm getting several tabs. (windows XP, Chrome).
    2. It takes several seconds for the screen sharing popup to show which might confuse users.
         Are there events I can use to show and hide a loading indication like "loading screen sharing... please wait"?
         Is it possible that the plugin will show this loading indication?
    3. Sometimes the "Start Screen Sharing" popup is displayed behind the browser window.
         This is very confusing for the user that can't guess what to do.
         It might happen if you focus the browser window or some other app, not sure.
    4. A user that tries to stop publishing is kicked out of the room.
         I've tried
         sspublisher.stop();
         or
         ss.publsher.stop(cSession.userManager.myUserID)
    I'm using latest LCCS SDK and screen sharing plugin with Flash 11.1 under windows XP with chrome.
    Thanks

    This is a reproducible example for the ScreenSharePublisher.stop() bug.
    Win XP, FF9, latest SDK, latest Flash player
    You login by calling the swf from javascript with login(roomURL, authToken) or replace it with manual authentication.
    Trace messages are shown in FireBug. Replace it with something else if needed.
    Click on the button to start screen sharing.
    Click on the button again and see that the user gets logged out.
    Thanks

  • Screen sharing performanace differences on MAC and WINDOWS

    Hi All
    I am having a big issue of screen share latency (working on WINDOWS) which is about to 20 - 30 sec sometime and 10 - 15 sec in general. I was thinking that It could be because of my network limits but when on the same time and in the same network I publish my screen share from MAC, miracle is happening, there is unexpected difference and there is no latency and if there, it is sometimes about 2-3 sec hardly. My maximum users are using WINDOWS and so that I am searching a solution for this latency problem. Please suggest a solution.
    Thanks.

    Hi Raff,
    We have tested it on following combinations on port 443 , sending and receiving.
    1. Screen sharing on MAC machine on LAN (Result: Good speed of sharing)
    2. Screen sharing on MAC machine on WiFi (Result: Good speed of sharing)
    3 Screen sharing on Windows machine on LAN (Result: Too much Latency in receiving)
    4 Screen sharing on Windows machine on WiFi (Result: Too much Latency in receiving)
    Specially we have noted on windows that after some time , data from windows machine (Any windows machine) screensharing addin process stop sending any significant upstream data(used netlimiter to verify this) , so reciver receives almost nothing or very delayed screen updates.
    I tried to figure out using Wireshark , but not sure that which packet to look for which can cause issues.I do not see any dropped packets atleast in packet scan.But packet sending speed decreases after some time on Windows machine.
    We use same settings of performance ,Quality ,Fps and Keyframes on Windows and MAC while sharing screen.
    What to look in for wireshark.
    Your inputs will be very helpfull.

  • Screen Sharing Locally Between Mac OS and Windows 7

    Apologies in advance if this is a really, really dumb question. However all the answers online center around an internet based VNC when I need something more local.
    I have a MacPro on one desk and a gaming rig on another running Win7 64 on another. They are directly connected via Ethernet for file sharing, but I am wondering how to make it so I can control the Windows 7 rig from the Mac Pro.
    Thanks much in advance!

    Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Mac OS X Client (free)
    <http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/remote-desktop/default.mspx>
    CoRD (Microsoft RDC Screen Sharing)
    <http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/22770/cord>
    This assumes you can enable RDC on your Windows system.
    After that, a VNC server, but that will not export sound.
    And this really only works if you are using keyboard and mouse. I do not think you can use a game controller unless that basically looks like a keyboard or mouse.
    Than again, maybe you are asking if it is possible to export your keyboard and mouse, but use the Windows system and its monitor. That is to say share you keyboard and mouse between the 2 systems. Then you should look at SynergyKM

  • Screen Sharing between a Tiger Machine and a Leopard Machine

    Hi All
    I have an Intel Mac Mini (running Tiger) that I would like to access using some kind of remote desktop from my MacPro (running Leopard).
    Is there a cost effective way to do this?
    I realise that I if I ran Leopard on my Mac Mini I could use “Screen Sharing” but I specifically want to keep Tiger on it.
    Thanks in advance
    Tyrone Howe

    You can turn on Remote Desktop on the mini and enable VNC access. You can then use any VNC client to access it from any computer.
    A better way is to install Vine Server on the Mini, http://www.redstonesoftware.com/downloads/ and tunr on the "system server". It is much better then the built in VNC server and works from the login screen, in case your minin has to reboot, which the built in one doesn't.
    A good client to use to acces it is JollysFastVNC http://www.jinx.de/JollysFastVNC.html

  • Screen Sharing on Devices like Android and iOS

    Hi Guys,
    I am wondering if there is any way to get a device like Motorola XOOM or iPad to do the screen sharing (as the publisher). I suppose the contrary (PC =>Tablet) is possible. Any comments on this?
    We would like to enable this for an application we are working on, I would love to hear your comments on this.

    Nope!

  • Screen Sharing in its own Space?

    I'm trying to figure out a way to get one of my spaces to function solely as a place to check my other computer over then network/internet via the built in Screen Share app. I'd like for the space to function with the other computer exclusively (computer B) - so it would show only the dock of the machine being remotely controlled (B) and not the dock of computer I'm inputing into (computer A). Ideally, the space would show computer B screen as it appears - sort of like a fit to screen option. I've noticed some people mention that VMWare Fusion and Parallels both function in a similar fashion to what I'd like. This seems like it should be accomplished easily, or at least that apple would have thought of integrating these two feature in such a way. Am I missing something?

    You can use this software to add it to the menu bar:

  • Is it possible to use screen sharing between lion and mountain lion

    I could always use screen sharing between my 2010 macbook and my 2007 macmini,both with lion.But now since I upgraded the macbook to mountain loin it doesn't work.The macmini did at first show up on the macbook finder sidebar under sharing like it always had done but as soon as I tried to connect the sharing option disappeared and won't come back.The macmini can still see the macbook however,its on the finder there.But when I try to connect from the mini to the macbook I get an error message that says something like "server error" and contact administrator(that's me!)I can't upgrade the mini to mountain lion as it's too old.So it this an incompatibility between the two operating systems or is it something else?
    I also tried to do it with BackTo My Mac,enabled through icloud on both computers but no luck,not even showing the Back to my Mac icon on either Finder sidebar like it's supposed to.When I did it through system preferences-icloud,it said this was successfully enabled but it just doesn't work at all.
    Cross about this since I always use the macbook to control the macmini which is plugged into a flat screen tv and it's much easier than fiddling around with a mouse and keyboard.

    I can screen share my wife's Lion iMac using Mountain Lion and the reverse is true. If the computer is not showing up to be selected under shard on the left column of the finder it is probable a connection issue. I would check my home network, restart the the macs and toggle the sharded settings and energy saving settings like wake for network activity. Be sure and set up iCloud on both your macs and turn on UPnP if you have a router for your home network serving up NAT IP Numbers. UPnG will make the port forwarding enteries in you router to allow you macs to connect behind the firewall created by nat addressing.
    I am currently having a problem with back to my mac. S
    creen shares great the the Lion iMac but Mountain Lion to Mountain on one computer will not connect if the computer is sleeping. It lights the screen on the sleeping computer but never shows on the computer requesting to share. File share always workd. If I wake the computere before I attemp the connection, screen share work as it should. If I try to screen share while the second computer is sleeping, It will never work again until I restart the iMac.

  • Launchd cancels logout/restart and kills app when using screen sharing

    I have an app I want to always run so I created a LaunchDaemon to keep it going:
    <plist version="1.0">
    <dict>
    <key>Label</key>
    <string>com.sns.sentinel.air</string>
    <key>KeepAlive</key>
    <true/>
    <key>ProgramArguments</key>
    <array>
    <string>sh</string>
    <string>/Applications/oc4j/restartSentinel.sh</string>
    </array>
    <key>RunAtLoad</key>
    <true/>
    </dict>
    </plist>
    And restartSentinel.sh is very simple:
    echo Process Sentinel.app is being restarted...
    open -W /Applications/oc4j/j2ee/home/applications/Sentinel/Sentinel.app;
    Everything seems to be fine but I have to access this machine via screen sharing. Then when I log in, the app gets shut down and only restarted a few minutes later. Also, when another user logs in, they are not able to log off. Launchd seems to cancel the restart.
    I do also have two other plist files running other things but they seem to work okay (they don't crash, but the one which needs to be kept alive (code is almost the same as above) also seems to be preventing log out for users other than me).
    So how can I get launchd to let people use screen sharing without killing the app and how can I get it to stop canceling logot/restart?

    Try the Unix forum (not thread) under OS X Technologies.

  • Stop and restart screen sharing

    When I call stop() on the ScreenSharePublisher it seems like it's not stopped in the right way or something. If I try to start it again I get this trace:
    ERROR:The Connection wasn't closed properly by abrupt killing of sharing instance.
    You need to call stop screen sharing, close the client browser and addin and relaunch screen sharing again
    and nothing happens. Am I missing something essential here?
    private function startDesktopSharing():void {
         if (screenShare != null && !screenShare.isPublishing) {
              trace("startDesktopSharing")
              screenShare.publish();
    private function stopDesktopSharing():void {
         if (screenShare != null && screenShare.isPublishing) {
              trace("stopDesktopSharing");
               screenShare.stop();
    I get my traces so I know that it's not publishing when I try to publish it again at least. Can't I stop and start it again right away?

    Can you enable log tracing and send us the client and addin logs when the problem occurs ? The instructions are here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/786297?tstart=0

  • Snow Leopard and Screen sharing question

    I followed the information in this article to use screen sharing between 2 SL computers and I can make the basic SS work.  However, two items from this article don't function as described.  It is an older article and I'm asking to see how it still applies to Snow Leopard users.
    http://www.macworld.com/article/131094/2007/12/screensharepower.html
    One item that doesn't seem to work is Bonjour Browser window.  Launching screen share doesn't automatically launch Bonjour Browser.  This is a small incovenience but it means I launch BB manually then cut and paste a device address from BB to SS.
    The second item is the terminal command to add additional items to the basic SS toolbar such as the button to capture the remote screen to a local file.  I've tried it but the additional buttons don't appear.  Are their other commans I could use to locally capture a screenshot from the remote machine to my computer?
    Are either of these features compatible in Snow Leopard?  If yes, how could I trouble shoot my setup to find out why an item isn't functining as described.
    Thanks!

    What did you do to make it work?
    In my setup, I am facing pretty much all the issues I saw on the forum around screen sharing. So from a Snow Leopard iMAC:
    1. I can't even get the black remote screen when trying to get access to another iMAC 10.6.1 system. In most of the case the connecting window stays on for about 1 min and than closes; the screen sharing application shows nothing connected. Once or twice I got a black remote screen and once I think it did work well. Tens of times it just did not connect. Console messages show errors with NetAuthAgent (even that file sharing and screen sharing are enabled on the remote Snow Leopard system and the file sharing was fine but connection is slower than with leopard).
    2. I can connect to a Leopard system but takes almost a minute to connect. I can access Leopard regardless of the screen sharing options and I never get a black remote screen.
    All systems are in a LAN. Before Snow Leopard upgrade the screen sharing connection was instant on all systems.

  • Linksys Router and Screen Sharing Problems

    Hello,
    I know that problems with Linksys routers and ichat video/screen sharing have been covered here and there in this forum, but I couldn't find a definitive answer.
    If I can connect find on a LAN between two Macs, but then get a connection error when attempting screen sharing/video over the internet, what settings should I change on the Linksys?
    Thanks in advance.

    The Linksys Firewall is normally Off by default.
    There are those that try Pinging IP addresses for various reasons.
    A Malformed Ping (Ping of Death) can bring down your connection.
    To a certain extent this does then become a question of whether you are a big enough target or if someone discovers your IP and tries to do anything about it.
    Most will be looking for access to Windows computers so your Mac it that sense will protect itself.
    In about 6 years on Broadband with a Constant On Connection none of the modems I have had have reported a a Ping attack and I have had thousands of contacts with people via iChat some of which will have my IP in their Logs.
    Significant Decrease ? No
