Screen Sharing dead since update,

Hello,
I've been using Screen Sharing from my MacBook to my MacPro for many months.
Since the latest update - nyet.
When I try to connect using screen sharing, nothing happens. Nothing.
No errors - nothing.
I can use Chicken of the VNC to connect just fine, but it's not the same.
Is it possible to downgrade or reinstall screen sharing?
TIA,
Mike

Thanks for your response.
I can't say which update with specificity.
I believe it was immediately after the 10.5.5 update.
I remember installing the remote client update and hoping that would fix the issue.
I cannot connect to the MacPro from the Macbook at all.
I can connect to the MacPro (both SS and File sharing) from my Mac-mini.
I can connect to the Mac-mini from my Macbook (both SS and File sharing).
I can connect to the Macbook from the Mac-mini.
I cannot connect to the Macbook from the MacPro at all.
I am logging into the admin account (more accurately the only account)
I have checked the screen sharing settings, and nothing has changed.
the firewall has the appropriate ports open and forwarded.
I'm baffled.
It's as if my Macbook and MacPro have just decided to stop speaking to each other. Although I can use 3rd party VNC back and forth.
I suspect something flaky with Bonjour/SS on the Macbook.

  • Broken screen-sharing after ARD-update to 3.7

    Hi all,
I have a MacMini (Mid 2011) running 10.7.5and am only accessing it via apple remote desktop. Well, actually I WAS, since I updated ARD two days ago. From there on screen sharing does only work when the firewall is disabled.
In Console, when trying to connect, I can watch this message coming up:
Firewall: Deny screensharingd connecting from xxx.xxx.xxx.xx:52425 to port 5900 proto=6.
This message repeats until I abort the connection attempt.
I looked at the entries in System Preferences/Firewall/Firewall options (this may be called slightly different, I'm translating from a german localization) and deleted screensharingd, but it continues to reappear. Also, setting it to "allow" does not work.
I added screensharingd manually via the "+", which stayed as it should, but now I have a second "screensharingd" entry in the Firewall, which is set to deny connections and can only be set to allow until I try to reconnect.
I spent some time going through other posts and tried a lot of suggestions, but to no avail, so I saw no other way than posting this question.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    thanks CaptMargnX,
I already disabled the firewall to be able to use screen sharing.
are you saying that this is a confirmed bug?

  • Computer dead since updating to Maverick... HELP

    I own a 1.6.8 imac bought in 2010.
I tried to update to Maverick and forgot to back up my data (my stupidity).
Now whenever I try to boot up, Maverick installer gets an error, saying disk is damaged.
Apparently the solution to that is to repair your disk in disk utility.
However, the repair disk button is greyed out- apparently means that the computer decided it's not repairable.
    So my only option is:
    - back up the disk on external hard drive to save the data, and erase the entire disk.
But when I try to create a disk image, or restore with source: Mackintosh Hd to destination: external hard drive,
    I get an input/output error.
The setting on the hard drive is mac (journaled), with 1 tb left for storage.
What can I do next to save my data before erasing the entire disk?
Any help would be greatly appreciated... I've been gruelling through this for too long.

The Snow Leopard install DVD will contain OS X 10.6.3, which was the latest retail version sold by Apple; all subsequent versions came as updates.
When you boot up this install DVD, you can't access Disk Utility right away. You must go through the install routine first, i.e. choose your language, until the Tools menu is available, at which point you can open Disk Utility. That's where you can choose to wipe your drive out if you want to.
Reinstalling without erasing your drive shouldn't remove all your personal data, but the old "archive and install" option you could use in Tiger is no longer valid in SL. It means that although your documents will still be there, the content of your user account's library will be overwritten. All your applications preferences will be gone.
Up to you. Now, from the install DVD, you should have access to the content of your startup volume. You should be able to copy your personal data onto another drive at that point.

  • Screen sharing: can't access after update to SL

I have a set-up with a new mini server running SL Server 10.6.2. A Macbook Pro and iMac are on the network, they were both running 10.5.8. I manage my mini server with one of these computers through screen sharing.
I updated my Macbook Pro last week to SL 10.6.2.
I updated my iMac this week to SL 10.6.2.
I can't log in to my mini server from these 2 machines since the update. I get a message "Authentication failed, please verify user name and password".
I have restarted my imac under 10.5.8, and I can use screen sharing again to manage my server.
I am at a loss to figure why the update to SL on my clients has killed may screen sharing access to the server.
    Any hints would be appreciated.

  • Screen redraw issues after update to 10.7.4

Anyone else seeing screen redraw issues since updating to 10.7.4? Suddenly, the zoom tool stops working or causes visual errors.

thank you FFS48, it really helped and might work fine as temporary solution. I was about to restore my OS from backup to 10.7.3 version... as booting from it made no errors. The latest 10.7.4 update filled my log filles with different error messages like:
    2012-05-10 23:53:17,000 kernel: SMC::smcReadKeyAction ERROR PC2C kSMCBadArgumentError(0x89) fKeyHashTable=0x0xffffff8030d4f000

I often need to access my Mac Pro using Back to my Mac from my MBP. Do you know will it still be possible having WiFi on MacPro off?
It is strange, that the latest update delivered more visible problems than benefits....
What I tried to solve the problem and that did not work:
    - Disable WiFi sync on iTunes (after reading some forums discussing similar problem)
    - Uninstalled Xcode (as some forums suggested)
It is some how related to WiFi and iOS devices that sync to that computer. Switching these iOS devices off - removes the problem, and I believe it should be reported to Apple.
Is there any URL to Apple bug submit form?

  • No Video or Screen sharing in iChat since last update.

I recently purchased a new MacBook Pro 15.4" laptop.
When I first started up, iChat worked beautifully. But after I installed the series of updates, I chat will not send or receive video, and will not allow screen sharing. It's telling me that there's no response from whoever I am trying to connect with. I've tried with three other Mac users, and no luck.
Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a fix for this?

  • Since updating to Lion I can no longer screen share on Snow Leopard

    Hi all,
I'm hoping someone might have some insight to the problem I'm experiencing with Screen Sharing.  I have two macs that I use - one is a Mac Mini 2010 Server model running Snow Leopard.  The other is a MacBook that is running Lion.
Since updating to Lion on the notebook, I can no longer access screen sharing through the Mac mini to the MacBook (Can't see the Lion screen through the computer with snow leopard).  I AM able to screen share the other way (see the snow leopard screen through the macbook running Lion).
It's aggrivating, in as much as these computers are on two different floors of my company, and being able to see the screen makes life easier.
I should also point out that I am able to successfully share the hard drives / files between both computers going back and forth (Snow Leopard to Lion and Lion to Snow Leopard) - it's just the screen sharing that no longer functions.  When I attempt to access the other computer screen it will act like it is signing in but just hangs and does nothing.
I know there is probably much more information that someone will need to help me solve this, but I don't know where to look.  But I'm hoping that with at least this much information you might be able to tell me where to look to get this corrected.
    Much thanks.

    If you want.
or maybe install Snow Leopard using the disc it came on with my Mac and just set it up from a Time Machine Backup on my external hard drive (since it works under SL)?
Did you install Lion on an empty partition, or did you upgrade Snow Leopard?  If you upgraded, I'd not recommend erasing it, since your backups are apparently gone.  It's doubtful Snow Leopard will recognize them.
It's not just backups on the drive either, there are other important things on there, so why won't they show?
Mixing Time Machine backups and other data is not a good idea.  See #3 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.  It sounds like the whole disk is corrupted.
I just really don't understand how this happened. Could it not be an issue with WD because they haven't issued firmware to support Lion yet?
If this is a simple external HD, connected by USB or FireWire, no, unless you installed some of WD's software on it.  That shouldn't prevent it from being seen at all, but anything's possible.

  • Screen sharing not working with eMac lab after 3.2 update

Screen sharing no longer functions after applying the 3.2 update in our eMac labs running 10.4.10 and PPC processors. However, it still functions in our iMac labs running 10.4.10 Intel processors. Before update, I was able to screen share with all the computers in the lab. After the update, I am only able to share with one single computer at a time. Not very useful anymore for teachers to use for demonstrating purposes at our school. It definately had something to do with the update since it was working moments before the update. Please help before I have to call Apple regarding this issue. Again, it only seems to affect screen sharing across PPC eMac computers, not Intel based computers.

Through much testing at our schools, we determined that the problem lies with the update and the admin machine running ARD. If the admin machine is less than a G5 (doesn't matter if it is intel or PPC), ARD will not screen share with multiple computers (more than 3 machines) at a time. If you have a G5 admin machine, you probably will not experience this problem. Apple has yet to contact our district regarding any options for fixing the problem. We are currently in the process of shuffling computers to make sure there is a G5 admin machine in every lab to run ARD. However, I still think Apple needs to recognize this as a problem with their update. Screen sharing is a great tool for teaching class and it is too bad that with the current 3.2 update, it breaks the ability to use it with "older" G4 macs. Hence, that is why your eMac screen sharing is not working anymore. I can only hope for a prompt update to ARD to remedy this situation.

  • After latest update, screen sharing broken

Installed the iPhoto, Supplemental 10.7.3 update, and, iTUnes update on March 10. Since then, screen sharing to a headless Mac no longer works properly.
What happens is it runs, but, screens no longer update properly. For example, you can't scroll in Safari, UNLESS you resize the Safari window, it's really strange. Video doesn't play, it freezes, again, unless you resize the video player window.
This has happened on all 3 macs that were updated. All 3 are headless, no display attached. One is a OSX Server.
Anyone else with the latest updates screen sharing a headless Mac with this issue?

  • HT1339 Restoring iPod nano to factory settings failed. The device switched to black screen immediately and is dead since then. Any idea what I can do now?

This week, my iPod nano suddenly seemed to have lost all the music that was on it.
when connecting to iTunes, it showed that the music was still there.
I tries to create a new playlist with 1 song in it and according to iTunes, that was successfull.
the iPod however still said 0 numbers are available in the music list.
finally, i executed the restore factory settings and that process failed.
the device immediately switched to blank screen and is dead since then.
when I connect the iPod to the computer, the computer detects that a device is connected and even recognizes it as an iPod.
however, the device is not visisble in the windows explorer.
iTunes automatically starts but shows the error message: the connected iPod cannot be identified ... unrecognized error (2005).
Does someone have an idea what I can do to make the iPod work again?
    thanks!

I tried by connecting to another available PC.
I newly installed iTunes on a PC that did not have the installation.
Connecting the iPod to this PC gave following error: "The iPod software update server could not be contacted. The server does not support this version of iTunes."
I followed the instructions in the "more information" section: iTunes version is the latest available; operating system version is up-to-date, no security obstructions and I rebooted my pc as suggested.
Next attempt to connect the iPod gave another error: "An iPod has been detected, but could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again. An unknown error occurred (2005)".
This is exactly the same error as on the first PC.
the iPod is still out of use

  • I have a 3rd generation iPad running iOS7.0.2, and since updating to iOS7, it will not mirror to an AppleTV.  The devices will connect, but the video monitors show only a blank screen.  The AppleTV's work fine with various other iOS & OSX devices. Ideas?

I have three AppleTV's where I work.  I have two at home.  I have an iPhone 4S running iOS7.0.2 which mirrors smoothly via AirPlay.  I have a 2011 MacBook Pro and a 2011 iMac, both running Mountain Lion, both of which mirror smoothly through AirPlay.  I have a 3rd generation iPad running iOS7.0.2, and since updating to iOS7, it will not mirror.  The iPad will connect to the AppleTV, but the TV's and projectors only show a black screen when connected: the iPad screen looks as it should, except that the transitions become jumpy when connected via AirPlay.  This is true on both networks: at home and at work.  Another gentleman using the network where I work has the most recent iPad, also running iOS7.0.2, and he is having the same problem.  I have tried to "Reset All Settings."  I have tried to "Restore."  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Has anyone else experience difficulty mirroring the iPad through AirPlay since the release of iOS7.0.2?

No problems exists with the router (on either network described above) or the multiple AppleTV's which are able to mirror multiple other OSX & iOS devices seamlessly. The problem is strictly with the iPad and iOS7.

This is an iOS 7 AirPlay mirroring bug...
To make matters worse, the iPad automatically drops its mirroring session 45 seconds after it auto-locks.
3-4 mirroring sessions is all it takes for the iPad mirroring to freeze up.
After this happens, mirroring to an Apple TV only projects a blank screen.
Once the mirroring is hung, the only way to fix it is to restart the iPad.
Apple please fix this iOS 7 issue!

  • Since updating to itunes 11, Home Sharing is not working

Since updating to itunes 11, Home Sharing is not working.
    I am running Windows 7, 64-bit.
All mobile devices are up to date with ios, including 2 apple tvs (2 & 3), iphone 4s and 3gs, ipad1 & ipad2.
I've rebooted twice, turned home sharing off, then signed back in. Still nothing.  Rebooted the mobile devices.  No joy.
Curiously, wi-fi sync is also not working - the devices are not showing up in itunes unless I plug them in.
    Please Help!

Yes, you guessed. After some rebbots it stopped working again .So it seems it is not a Firewall issue. Kept looking and found a suggestion in a forum to disable IPv6, apparently iTunes for Windows doesn't work well with IPv6. So I did, and after several rebbots and tests, both Home Sharing and Apple TV 1st Gen are working. To disable IPv6, follow this link
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929852
It has an MS Fix It that will do it for you. Or if you wnat to go manual, follow this discussion, this guy was having the same issue several months ago
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3507281?start=75&tstart=0
So far IPv6 is just being rolled out, and it will be a few years until everybody abandons IPv4 and go only with IPv6, so you shouldn't have any issues disabling it. And by then iTunes -I hope- should be fixed to work correctly with IPv6. Try it, and if you find any issues you can always enable IPv6 using another MS Fix it program, or manually reverse what you did
Hope it is fixed this time!

  • Back to my mac screen sharing no longer works since Mountain Lion release, even on Lion

I've used screen sharing via iCloud and back to my mac between a 2007 macbook and a 2010 imac.  Both computers are still on Lion but screen sharing stopped working when Mountain Lion was released.  I've read a number of comments on this forum that people were having trouble since upgrading to Mountain Lion, but I don't think that's the problem b/c I haven't upgraded either machine.  I think the problem is something Apple did in preparation for the Mountain Lion release date and it seems to have damaged screen sharing functionality.  Anybody else experiencing this or have a fix for it.
As for the specifics, I can still see my "other" machine under shared and can click "share screen," it usually searches for a couple minutes, then pops up the password dialogue box, but then searches for a while and eventually the password box closes, "screen sharing" stays open, but there are no windows associated with it.

I have the same problem, just today (although I'm still running 10.6.8). Every morning I turn on my main Logic mac then fire up my 2 slave macs, connect to them, activate Screen Sharing, and get going.
This morning I tried it, connected to the other macs as usual (I can see/access/alter their hard drives from my main mac) but when I click "Share Screen" I just get the "connecting" dialog box & it just keeps going.
The weird thing is, when I put my laptop into the network via wifi, I can screenshare my main mac's screen (all 3 of them, actually!)  but not my 2 slave macs that are ethernet'd to the main mac.
I've tried every solution I could find via google, and nothing is working.
