Screen sharing in Mountain Lion iMessage

Screen sharing doesn't seem to work in Mourntain Lion. Anyone know if there is a fix? Screen Sharing is enabled, but when trying to choose share screen it is all greyed out.

Hi,
It will work if the Messages App has either AIM (or AIM Valid) names or Jabber valid IDs listed as accounts.
(i.e the iChat side of things)
I have Screen Shared to  Snow Leopard and Leopard computers.
My G4 tower will boot into an iChat 3 version.
This will only accept Video Chats if the iChat 3 end calls  ( I have yet to try Screen Sharing with iChat 3).
I actually don't have a computer that I can booth into Lion whilst being in Mountain Lion.
Lets say you are using an iCloud issued @me.com name as the iMessages Apple ID
Go to the Message Preferences > Accounts and us e the + button
Click the AIM Choice.
Add the @Me.com name in full
Click Done.
You will now have an AIM Account in the Accounts list
In the window Menu it will now says Buddies (CMD + 1)
This will  show you the Buddy List
Add AIM or AIM Valid Buddy names.
In the Video Menu Screen Sharing will now be an option you can tick (or Untick)
You could also Add GoogleTalk or other Jabber IDs to the Accounts list.  (GoogleTalk is a Jabber server)
Screen Sharing is AIM to AIM or Jabber to Jabber.

  • Screen sharing in Mountain Lion

The apple creen sharing app is no longer working in Mountain Lion. How can i now screen share remotly to nother mac without physically being at that computer to accept it (hence why i cant use iChat)?

I found the problem. I was using an old version of Screen Sharing either from lion or snow leopard which doesnt work on Mountain Lion, you either type vnc://***.***.***.*** in Connect to Server in finder and it will automatically open screen sharing, or you can find the new screen sharing app in System/Libraby/CoreServices.

  • Screen Sharing between Mountain Lion and Tiger not working

rMBP running 10.8.2 ML and a G3 iMac running 10.4.11 Tiger.
When I try and use Screen Sharing on the MBP to connect to the G3 it prompts for both a username and password. I enter a valid user and pw but it fails with
    Authenication failed to "Ruby".
Please verify you have entered the correct name and password.
Third-party VNC clients, e.g. JollysFastVNC on my MBP and Remoter on my iPhone, can connect fine, but they only request a password.
    Any ideas?

I've been using Screen Share on my home network for a very long time.  My most used computer, MacBook Pro (2011) was just upgraded to ML, my desktop still has Lion on it - and can't be upgraded because it is an early MacPro.  I was having intermittant problems getting the MBPro to connect to the MPro screen, and resetting the PRAM was correcting it (but it could have been the rebooting process alone - I don't know).  Now I can share the MPro disks on my network but not the screen.  Now, to me, that's wierd.  I've tried doing all kinds of setting checks, preference removal, etc.  No luck.  I can, however (as someone above mentioned) connect from my MPro (Lion) to my MBPro (ML) screen.  I've checked my Intego VirusBarrier X6 settings, i.e. blocked addresses (in the past that has happened and blocked) and I've even entered my MBPro address into the approved address section.  I've checked/rechecked the Sharing Preferences, turned them on/off, etc.  All to no avail.
Is this a Mountain Lion / Lion issue, a Mountain Lion issue, or something somewhere corrupt?  I used to have Remote Desktop on the MPro, but for my needs Screen Share & Disk Share suit my needs on my home network.  I have LogMeInIgnition, which when the last time I tried to connect to the MBPro it showed it offline - and it isn't.  I feel there's something in ML blocking things.
I'm open to suggestions, and a fix if needed.  This is frustrating.  Not that I can't use the exercise to walk to the room where the MPro is - not the point.

  • Full screen mode in Mountain Lion

    Hello everybody!
I am experiencing certain problems with full screen mode in mountain lion 10.8.2 freshly installed (not upgraded over Lion or ML 10.8.x) on Macbook Pro 13 mid 2010 model. Whenever i open an application which supports full screen mode, it opens on my desktop so I have to enter into full screen mode. When I quit the application and reopen it, it again opens on my desktop then I have to again enter into full screen mode. What I want is that all apps open in full screen mode if they support like, calendar, mail, safari, notes, reeder, itunes, app store and so on.
What could be the problem that is preventing my apps to start automatically in full screen mode?
I would appreciate any kind of help from anyone of you.
    Thanks.

Go to System Preferences > General and untick Close windows when quitting an application

  • Screen sharing from Mtn Lion to Lion?

Currently I'm on a Mountain Lion system and I have a system that is remote which uses Lion, I am able to use Back to My Mac to connect and browse files but Screen Sharing (Lion system on the Mtn Lion system) will never connect.
Should this be expected to work?

Jim, I may have solved the problem. Don't know if it is a permanent fix yet though.
On the Lion computer, on the Sharing Control Panel, I turned on "Remote Management" rather than screen sharing.
When I did this, Screen Sharing was disabled. I then turned off Remote Management and re-activated Screen Sharing.
From this point Share Screen seems to work and I am now able to see the screen from the Lion computer on the Mountain Lion computer.
Throughout the day I have been able to share screen the other way (displaying the Mountain Lion computer's screen on the Lion computer) without any problems.
No idea why this would work, but seems to have done the trick for me!

Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • Login screen black on Mountain Lion

I upgraded my MacBook Pro 13 early 2011 to Mountain Lion yesterday.
I am having a problem with the login screen. About 50% of the time when I reboot, the login screen is completely blank, just plain black. The other screens I have connected show the linnen background as normal.
The login screen is there as I can login by:
    pressing down arrow
    pressing enter
    typing my password
    pressing enter
I have tried the various to try and fix it:
    zapping PRAM
    repairing the boot volume
    repairing permissions
    disconnecting my other displays
None of that did any good, it still keeps doing it.

It looks like this is being caused my the driver for my DisplayLink USB display adapter.
The driver was also causing Finder and Skype to crash.

  • Severe Screen Artefacts post Mountain Lion Upgrade

I recently upgraded to Mountain Lion direct from Snow Leopard.  Ever since I have been getting weird vertical lines drwn on my iMac screen.
They don't appear all the time.  They appear in windows when I move the window around the screen. They sometimes appear on the desktop behind the window - but not always.  They appear in in Safari windows too.  If I scroll up and down the line stay in the same releative position. That is, I can't lose them by scrolling them off screen.  They are still there in the same shape and position when I scroll back down again.
They don't seem to affect Google Chrome.  They plague Safari and Firefox.  I have a demo version of iDefrag.  The iDefrag data window has vertical lines at random where none should be present.

This happens irrespective of what User Account I am logged in to.

    Hi Paul.
I did all that and I'm pleased to announce that it appears to have worked!!  It's only been half an hour or so since the restart so I'm still cautious but I now get that Triangle in Numbers that I mentioned earlier.
The screen artifacts appear to have gone now.  But I will remain sceptical about this until I haven't seen them for at least a week. Well - another couple of hours maybe.  LOL!
What appears to have happened this time is that the download was one **** of a bit faster than the first time. My ISP recently upgraded me from 20gbits/s to 60gb/s download.  The ML downloader showed 1 hour 36 mins to do the jobs but actually took only about 40 mins.  The installer took a further 40 mins.
This time, when ML started up, it automatically located and downloaded n a new version of Java (name ended with 2013 or something).  I think it was this that has fixed the screen glitches.
The reinstalled version of ML is 10.8.3.  It was 10.8.2 before.  Okay, so it's a recent update but I wonder why 'Software Update' didn't inform me about this?  Just a coincidence that it is released just as I needed it maybe?
Anyway, I'm off now to see if GarageBand works again in all the accounts on my iMac rather than only the administrator account; and to see if edge detection when preview scanning is now available again in Preview and Image Capture when using my HP C7280 A-I-O printer/scanner.  Oh, and also to see if Dictation now works. It didn't before.
Bugger! I've just typed this and possibly I needn't have done!  Oh well - here goes nothing.....
Thanks for the tips, Paul.  Your good health, Sir!

  • Screen Pixelation after Mountain Lion upgrade

I upgraded to Mountain Lion on my Mac Pro recently.  For the first week or so it worked great, but a few days ago I woke the computer from screen saver and the screen was covered with these random pixels all over.  Here is a link to a screen shot I took.
    http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/515/screenshot20120814at332.png/
The pixels don't stay in the same place they constantly move like ants.  Also, they seem to only be effecting the mac os whenever I take a video or photo into full screen the pixelation goes away, but returns immediately after exiting full screen.  Also, it doesn't seem to be distorting the dock at all.
I haven't changed any display settings since the upgrade leading me to believe the only answer is with mountain lion itself.  Obviously thios is quite irritating trying to work with all this noise on the screen.
Has anyone else had this problem?
ANyone have a solution?  so far there have been no bug fixes from apple.
FYI:  I have a Mac Pro quad, running to two dell monitors.

same here... just for curiosity, have you used the Preview version of Mountain Lion? i have 2 mbp 13" with identical hardware, one with pixelated screen, and the other normal. i've installed the ML Preview in just the troubled one...

  • Screen Sharing Problem after Lion Install

    Greetings,
After installing Lion on my MacBookPro 17", I am now unable to use screen sharing to access my Mac Mini Server running 10.6.8 server.  When I attempt to make the connection, the Screen Sharing application starts, but I never see a desktop of the Mac Mini.  In the system.log, I see entries that include:
Screen Sharing[2062]: MVS Codec - bad rectangle size - closing connection
I've tried rebooting both machines and it doesn't make any difference.
I've only been able to find one mention of a similar message from someone trying to use desktop sharing in iChat, but it didn't include a fix.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Dave

Apple appears to have solved the problem for me.  :-)
My scenario was a MacBook Pro running Lion attempting to screen share the screen of a Mac Mini Server (My HTPC) running 10.6.8.  Apple pushed some updates to the Mac Mini on 10.6.8, including:
    Remote Desktop Client Update 3.5.1
    Safari 5.1
    Mac OS X 10.6.8 Supplemental Update 1.0
    iTunes 10.4
After these updates, I can once again screen share with the Mac Mini.  So, my guess would be something in more likely the Remote Desktop Update or less likely in the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Supplemental Update solved the problem.
Check your Software Update on the machines that you're trying to connect to and see if that solves your problems too.
    Thank you Apple!
    Dave

  • Does Mountain Lion Automatically Change Fonts, Size or Screen Resolution, Does Mountain Lion Automatically Change Fonts, Size or Screen Resolution

After upgrading from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion, the text in my nav bar and inside browsers (generally all around) seem to be smaller and possibly different (thinner) to what they were before.
I would like to revert back to their previous appearance, but after reading various threads and playing around, nothing seems to work. I'm not sure if the font has been changed, the size adjusted, or the screen/display resolution changed.
I tried suggestions like clearing font cache with Onyx and testing different Display resolutions, but didn't manage to get it back to how it was before the OS upgrade.
Appreciate if anyone can point me in the right direction please. TIA.

Could you post a screenshot showing your main menu bar and the Finder sidebar, please? This way we could compare the fonts used.
For me the system fonts look like this in Mt. Lion on a 17" MBP with the "Display" System Preferences set to "Best for Built-in Display":
I have the Finder's View option set to use 16pt fonts, but other than that is there no way to change the the fonts used without changing the Display resolution.
One more option you may want to check are the "Contrast" settings in the "Accessibilty" System Preferences. If you set the contrast to a very high value will the text appear to be very thin and hard to read.
