Screen Sharing - Possible Feature Request

Greetings
Loving Jabber (but also work in an environment that competes with Lync)
Reality:
Staff have deskphones and some with attached headsets.
Some staff have video cameras.
Some have laptops with video.
Very few staff have headsets on their desktop/laptops.
Screen sharing is not available to a user unless used in softphone mode
Staff do not like to have to use softphone just to get a few features such as screen sharing working, then have to have a conference call with the rest of the office since they do not have headsets.
Staff love the video calling if they have a camera (similar to VT Advantage) and they do not have to be in softphone mode for it.
So.........
Is there a way to screen share without being forced to use softphone mode?
I think this might be more a feature request, not sure if there are other ways around it, I cannot find anyhting in product guides or online.

BFCP is not designed for the mode CTI control deskphone.
Be confident anyway, Cisco is working on this feature...No idea of release date. Wait and see...

No screen sharing possible anymore

Hi, i updatet my iMac and my mac mini to Lion. Then i installed Lion Server on the mini.
After doing this, all attemps to connect from my iMac to my mini with screen sharing fail.

Okay, i got it now. There is a difference in activating the remote administration options (in the "Sharing" Pane in the systempreferences). When the option for remote administration is set, it deactivates the option for screen sharing (the computer will tell you that the remote administration controls the screen sharing option). But what exactly happens is not clear. When you diable this feature, and activate the screen sharing, then everything works fine...

Remote Access - Screen Sharing - possible to have a different session?

I was wondering of there was some way, maybe using X11, of doing screen sharing to my iMac but with a different session.
Can I log-in across the network and get a separate logged-in session from the one on the main screen?
If so, how do I do it? Is there a 'How to' somewhere?
I'd imagine something like setting up a Display parameter for X11 that can run remotely on my machine, so I can log on as a different person and run a different session without affecting what's on the main screen. Effectively to be multi-user access.

On a Unix or Linux system (and OS/X is a Unix system) you can have multiple remote sessions running under X11.
Mac OS X does NOT use X11 as its graphic engine. X11 is a side car on Mac OS X, provided so users that need to access Linux/Unix system which do use X11 have a way of displaying X-Windows output.
Mac OS X itself does not use X11 in any way. So even if you could do what you want, it would not get any of the native Mac OS X applications displayed on your system.
As someone else has pointed out, there is a trick with Fast User Switching and the Vine Server that can allow multiple users to access the system. It is a bit of a hack, and less than perfect, but if it works for you, that might be an option.

Debug symbol ID or possible Feature request

I'm pretty bad with code and I constantly get lost working with it.
but I'm pretty good at copy and pasting snippets and modifying things i need.
I've been trying to watch videos on how to target symbols and things but I keep getting lost on syntax. (ex sym.Stage.(soemthing))
Is there code that I can type on an element to make an alert box display what the symbol's name is for scripting?
the issue comes from trying to make a responsive site using edgecommons' adaptive layout

I can't seem to figure out how to target something when the page is brought up to say change it's CSS or move it through code, most lessons only target symbols on the main stage, not something brought in dynamically.
As for the Feature Request, it would be nice if there was a way to drag and drop an element into actions panel and have it write out it's drilled down name into the code. Similar to After effects where you just drag and drop attributes and it automatically types out the attribute's name when working with expressions.

Possible Feature Request

Hi there,
Right now, it seems that it is only possible to add selected
tags from a premade list of tags to your favorites toolbar.
I was wondering if it may be possible, in future versions, to
have more flexibility to that.
Like Firefox will allow you to create your own toolbar and
you can add whatever tags or items are available for the entire
application.
Say I wanted a toolbar called whatever and I wanted a tag
like "span" (which isn't currently available), certain other
special characters that aren't available and I also wanted to add
menu items that I use a lot to my new toolbar called whatever,
like, "save", "select all", "undo", "redo", "apply source
formatting" ... the problem is, currently I cannot create a toolbar
with just the items I want, but it would make things so much more
convenient.
It would also be nice to be able to add to your toolbar items
that are recognized by the application but are not added to the
current toolbars available. Like some of these characters,

Another thing that would be beneficial, I would think, is a
highlighting feature for the code view. Just a little something to
be able to highlight selected text for easier viewing when you want
to go back to something particular while coding.

Ix4-300D Issues on Sleep and Fan Speed - Possible Feature Request

Hi,
Can I find out why when the drives go to sleep, why cant the display panel turn off and the fan slow down?
My NAS is only used at a certain time of day, which I can use the power off/power on schedule, but there are times during the week when I want to access it. So, I can use the power switch to turn it on but then it stays on until the next scheduled off time. Cant Wake-On_Lan be programmed to wake up the unit in the Power Off state (If it should, then mine is not working).
It would be good to have a sleep mode like a "normal PC" where sleep is where everything is turnd off on the Nas except the ability to Wake On Lan.
Failing that, at least an option to turn off the display an leave it off. I dont need to see the front panel and the information it displays.
Also, my fan runs at a constant 1660 RPM and never varies, even when the drives are ON or OFF. It is pumping out cold air, so the unit is not warm and is obviously noisy for no reason at all. I have migrated from and ix2 and the fan ran average 800rpm, even when the drives were heavily utilised.
Why is the fan running so fast when not needed to? Is this another bug in the firmware?
I am running the latest firmware.

Yes, the drives enter sleep mode, but to me, the display should turn off, or there should be a way of turning the display off. I dont need the display on 99.9% of the time. Also, the fan is a 92mm fan with ample cooling power even when the drives are constantly being hit hard, so I dont see why it needs to run at ~1600 rpm when the drives are asleep. Even when the drives are hit hard, it still runs ~1600, never vaires. The system it self is cold (Cpu heatsink, etc) so that led to the question on whether it was actually working 100% (as in varying speed) or is it just fixed at a noisy 1600 rpm for no need.
I worked out on using the magic packet to wake the unit up from OFF mode, which is fine (but annoying as it means some command/software has to initate the wake up)
However, the system should re-shut itself down, if it is still in the Power OFF/ON Time schedule and no activity has occurred. Now, that would be a great feature.
These are very simple additions/features to put into the firmware. Other makes have/do it. They all run some form of Linux. Hopefully, someone listens and the features get added.

Customizing Screen Sharing Pop Ups

Hi Everybody,
I'm using screen sharing LCCS feature and add it to my customer care platform adobe flash based. In my scenario customer is publishing its screen and agent can control it. The problem is the pop up showing up after a publisher sharing session is requested. I'd like to control it not to let customer decide when and what to share. I found no way to control it (add it on flash) or customize it in order to start directly a desktop sharing or an app sharing.
Is there any way to do that?

Feature Request: List of linked contacts

hi there,
as there is bug with disapearing gmail contacts (those which are linked with SIM contacts if SIM card contacts display is switched off) i've tried to view all linked contacts and unlink them. i found the only way to do this is to go trough all contacts in list, check everyone is it linked or not separatelly. as usual contact list may exceed even 100 positions it is really hard task, or time consuming.
it wouldbe very nice to have:
1. a quick access to list of all linked contacts, so i may decide manually which one should be unliked, or:
2. maybe a little icon next to a contact name to indicate that contact is linked, or:
3. little icon at right side of the name which would indicate a type of storage: gmail, local phone, sim... contacts linked from few sources could have more than one icon.

Try this:
Once logged in, click 'All Files' from the top-left corner. Then click the 'Clock' symbol to 'List by when I viewed'
I realize it's not exactly what you've asked for, but it may be helpful!

Messages Screen Sharing is super slow

So, in Yosemite, Apple introduced native screen sharing. I used to do screen sharing via AOL IM in Messages, but have now been trying Apple's native version. It is, however, painful slow. Especially when compared to using AOL IM. Is anyone else having this issue? Have you found a way to speed it up?
Also, when using native screen sharing, the person requesting the screen share is introduced using their [email protected] user account. For users like me who use the (much) older @mac.com handle, is there a way to have Messages identify you as such, instead of using the @iCloud.com handle?

I have the same problem, I think. The 2 computers take ages to connect to each other, with screen sharing and also to connect as a share in finder. This is only since updating to Snow Leopard, with Leopard everything was dandy

Feature request - Accelerometer for screen orientation - Is it possible?

I use a TM2t, and I find that using the external button to rotate the screen is annoying and sluggish on my 1.3ghz system. I tried to change the order in which the screen rotates, but no matter how I change those settings, it still turns the screen clockwise, 90 degrees at a time (sometimes twice even though I pressed the button only once).
My system already has an accelerometer built into the hard drive. Can the operating system read accelerometer data, or is it only available to the hard drive? I'd love it if the tablet could tell which way to orient the screen so I'd only have to press that button once.
Also, it would be possible to add a nifty pseudo-3d background to the Touchsmart user interface That's my two cents

Sorry but no. ARD does not transfer sound, only the screen. I don't know of any screen-sharing solution for a Mac that transfers audio, though it's possible there's something out there that I've not come across yet.

Is it possible for multiple users to use a "generic" account simultaneously without screen sharing?

I am wondering if it is possible to have users use a generic account at the same time without any sort of screen sharing.
I have set up a generic user account (for example useraccount, password 1234) for users to use in the time before I can set up a custom user name for them. However, I have run into some issues with this.
When multiple users log on using this generic account, their applications seem to be shared on each screen. In the room with multiple Mac workstations, if someone starts working on Photoshop, Photoshop will open on every one elses screen who is logged on under that generic account.
Is it possible for users to log on using a generic network account and have their own isolated work environment or is this sort of sharing a feature? I am new to Mac servers and am not sure.

That shared-account approach seems impractical for the various reasons you've identified, as well as the inevitable issue of cleaning up the detritus that'll inevitably build up in a shared account, and for the lack of accountability for activities occuring under the shared account for both auditing and security, and sharing directories would tend to introduce obscure conflicts around which-file-version-wins file updates when the same file is used in several places, and would probably be contrary to any per-user application software licensing agreements that might be involved.
Put another way, get unique accounts created for folks, and work toward the ability to create accounts for arriving folks, and — if it's applicable here — talk to management about getting any per-user software licensing issues sorted out, whether that's having spare copies purchased and ahead or some advanced notice on accounts, or establishing group software licensing where that's available.
AFAIK, there are tools around which can automate account creation, too. Either generic, a tool such as Passenger, or it's certainly feasible to script the account creation sequence.
Trying this shared-access generic-account approach just looks like it can create more work and more hassles and more effort to me...

Screen Sharing scrolling, can the auto-pan feature be turned off?

I am using screen sharing from home on my MacBook Pro to connect to my Mac Pro at work and it performs really well in all respects but one. My Mac Pro has dual monitors, so Screen Sharing running on my MacBook Pro gives me the option of either scaling the larger screen down, which is not readable, or being able to scroll around the larger screen of my work machine. The problem is that Screen Sharing has the automatic pan feature so that if my mouse moves to the edge of the window showing the shared screen then it starts scrolling it. This is nice the first time you see it but quickly becomes annoying because every random mouse movement that takes me to the edge of the window, like moving the mouse out of that window to go the the dock or the menu of my MacBook Pro, starts scrolling the screen when I did not want it to. I find myself constantly re-centering the view of the shared screen in the window back to the position I want it in and I find this to be a very anti-productive waste of time. I would like the auto-pan feature disabled so that it will only scroll when I grab a scroll bar and move it. Is it possible to do this?

I'm having the exact same problem with a Toshiba Satellite P300 here. The multimedia button seems so sensitive that the laptop will turn on by itself after a while. I haven't been able to find a program to disable it. Has anyone found a solution to this? If you do, please send me an email at [email protected] (remove the nospam) so I can fix it once and for all.

Feature Request - My idea for a Today Screen...your thoughts??

Submitted this to Palm as a feature request. Curious what others think about the idea. I know there are apps such as Active Home Screen (AHS) being tested and developed, but my approach would be contained within WebOS, thus not dependent upon running another App.
Let me know your thoughts...
I think it would be great to have a page very similar to a launcher page that shows a summary of certain data for the day...such as Weather, Tasks, a Calendar agenda for the day, etc.
My ideal feature would be to make this function the same way a launcher page does...swipe up to display and again to dismiss.
I would prefer to split the gesture area in half, so that one half displays the current launcher pages, and the other half displays the today screen. For example swiping up on the left side of the gesture area launches the Today screen, and swiping up on the right side displays the standard launcher pages.
It would be an active page that updates based on current weather, next appointment, etc. Also, being able to tap one of the displayed summaries would launch that app.
One of the great features of WebOS is multi-tasking, however in some ways you are forced to over multi-task. Sometimes all you need to see is an overview of the day or whats coming up next without having to run 3 or 4 apps to get an idea of what the day looks like. Thus allowing you to save more of that precious multi-tasking benefit for apps that are constantly in use.

Screen sharing over the net. Is it possible.

I was wondering if someone with screen sharing abilities could help out. I was wondering. Is it possible to share screens over the net. For example, my mom is like a 100 miles away. Running Leopard. How could I access her screen so that I could show here what to do. Heres the states, her computer has a router. My computer has a router. How can we sharing screens. Where would be long into and how. I know of the program in System/corservices/screensharing When I click it it asks for host. I dunno if that was the right way to go but any help here would be amazing. Thank oyu.

It is possible apparently, but if there is a router in the equation, that may well cause problems. If your Mom is using a Mac, this screen sharing facility is also available via iChat.

Shared Workspace Tags - Feature Request

A fellow Acrobat.com user brought up a great feature request, shared tags. Currently when you tag a document within a shared workspace, only you can see those tags. Others with access to the shared workspace do not have the ability to see the tags you created.
