Screen Sharing Suddenly Not working?

I've been using Screen Sharing for months now to control my Mac Pro Desktop that is connected to my Plasma TV with my Macbook Pro laptop with no issues. Suddenly now a message pops up everytime I try to connect telling me that the connection doesnt support encryption and the video stutters (advances every few frames at a time). Anyone know how to fix this issue?
Thanks!

I failed to mention in my previous post that my work computer is showing up on my network.

  • IChat 4.0.7 Screen Sharing does not work.

Me and my friend both have identical machines, the intel iMac 20" 2.66mhz
    Software is identical
iChat version is identical (4.0.7 (616))
Video Chat works perfectly, our internet connections are fantastic, no issues there.
Both using Netgear routers with uPnP enabled.
    Internet Sharing is OFF
Firewall is "set access for specific services and applications" and iChat and iChat Agent are added.
I conclude that Screen Sharing *does NOT work* as advertised.
Apple, I am most disappointed, get it sorted for next release please.
Who else has witnessed this epic failure?
    Thanks,

Also, what is this iChat AV nonsense? Where are the iChat 4 forums?

Thanks again Leo for your help,
Yes I was refering to the screen sharing in system preferences/sharing.
    Checked the video menu:
    Screen sharing enabled
    Camera enabled
    microphone enabled
so no that's not it! Was hoping it was something simple like that too.
Both netgear routers dont have any ports forwarded, just upnp enabled.
The frustrating thing is, both macs are new, one is only days old, and neither mac has had it's setting messed about with or anything.
It would be great to find the solution, 100's of people having similar issues if you google it.
    *edit*
Just a thought, would the type of account make a difference? At the moment we are both using the type of accounts that iChat creates when you select "get an iChat account" (creates a [email protected] login)

  • Ichat Screen Sharing will not work no matter what I try...

I have read all the forums and can't find an answer. Something that should be so simple such as screen sharing through iChat (as advertised) is virtually impossible. This I can not explain. Especially since video chat works!
Both computers in question here are macbooks, both have leopard, both are or wireless networks. Is the router blocking the connection and if so, why will it allow video chat but not screen sharing?
There is either something real simple that I am missing here, or this is not possible at all.
some things that i have tried:
    disabling stealth mode
on the firewall, enabling incoming traffic from ichat
made sure screen sharing is enabled in ichat
made sure the settings were the same on the remote apple computer
tried unchecking everything in the sys pref "sharing"
Both of the parties involved are using the same ISP, this really is mind boggling.
Is this a bug that is being fixed or what? I am not trying to perform a miracle here, but this is getting ridiculous.
If this is a router issue, apple should release some documentation on how to configure ichat screen sharing through your router.
If anyone has had this problem and has a fix, I would love to hear it. Keep in mind I have googled this many times and tried just about every piece of advice that I could find on this.
    Thanks

iChat Screen sharing does not as such for the screen bit use the Video/Audio port.
The Documentation was lacking last time I looked.
This one tells you the port changes in Leopard http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306688 compared to Tiger
Tiger is linked in the first to here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93208 where most of the other ports are.
However Screen sharing was not part of iChat 3.
If you do a Quick Look at the .plist(s) you will see the reference to ARD which is Apple Remote Desktop which is what the screen ending part is based on.
This Doc will tell you which ports ARD is likely to use
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106439
    (It says 5900 and 5988)
This should be allowed through the use of UPnP in your routing device or specifically opened.
Now the not so good news.
I run Little Snitch, A utility that tells you ports and IPs of incoming and outgoing network connections by any app you have.
This has told me that in fact the Screen port seems almost completely random normally in the 50000 range of ports
It may not be all you wnat to hear but I hope it helps.

  • IChat screen sharing does not work on my Mac Pro

I have a weird iChat screen sharing problem that i can't seem to resolve on my Mac Pro. Ever since i got my Mac Pro in early 2008, using the screen sharing feature in iChat has always been flaky. I have never gotten to the point of getting it consistently working. Lately, i have not been able to get it to work at all.
Most of the time, when i choose to share my chat target's screen (or when i share my screen), i would be able to see my chat target's screen and use the mouse for several seconds before the shared screen session is ended. The errors that i am getting are:
    +"Disconnected from Screen Sharing because:+
+No data has been received for the last 10 s..."+
+"There was a communication error during your chat.+
+No data has been received for the last 10 seconds. You can send+
+details about this problem to Apple to help improve future versions of+
    iChat."
On other occasions (mostly when i am trying to troubleshoot this issue by testing in the same network with my Powerbook, which is on 10.5.6 as well), i get this error:
    +"Disconnected from Screen Sharing because:+
+Screen sharing could not be established."+
I have tried to do screen sharing via iChat with other Macs in the same network and also on the internet but with the same problems.
Initially, i thought this may be router related. But the fact that iChat screen sharing on my Powerbook works perfectly both in intranet and internet eliminates my router as the culprit.
I have also tried disabling the OSX Firewall but the outcome was the same.
I read some posts that there may be issue with using the external iSight web cam. I unplugged it, cleaning up all the iChat-related caches and preferences and tried again but with the same result.
I have also tried connecting to iChat using several different account types (mobileme, .mac and AIM) but the end result is the same.
I run a Ubuntu VMWare fusion VM on my Mac Pro as my webserver. I thought that may be the problem. Shutting down the Ubuntu VM also does not help.
Applecare support personnel also instructed me to re-install iChat but that did not help as well.
One interesting error i noticed in the system.log (seen via the Console app) that is generated everytime iChat screen sharing fails on my Mac Pro:
    +12/23/08 12:32:00 AM /Applications/iChat.app/Contents/MacOS/iChat[507] error getting server version+
I am really running out of ideas on what else i can do to get this resolved.
Thanks in advance for any suggestion.

The audio and video chat portions of iChat work fine.

I managed to make some headway in my attempts to troubleshoot this problem. I did a fresh Leopard install on one of the drives in my Mac Pro. I then proceeded to update it to 10.5.6. After that, i launched iChat and attempted screen sharing with my Powerbook. The first few attempts failed, with the following symptoms:
    - i would be able to see and control the Powerbook's screen
    - after 5 seconds, my screen sharing session is disconnected
I then unplugged my external iSight. After i relaunched iChat, i managed do screen sharing in iChat without being disconnected!!! When i connected the iSight back into the ACD, with iSight off, i attempted to screen share again. This time, it failed after about 5 seconds, just like earlier. I then turned iSight on. This time round, the screen sharing session was not disconnected!!
So in addition to the iSight issue, something in my original Leopard startup disk is causing iChat screen sharing to fail because even when screen sharing was failing on my fresh Leopard install, i do not see this error:
    /Applications/iChat.app/Contents/MacOS/iChat(507) error getting server version
So if i can figure out what is causing this error to show up in system.log, then i can manage the iSight issue.

  • IChat Screen Sharing will not work when VNC will?

I am finding it impossible to get Screen Sharing working via iChat. I'm not surprised, as iChat seems extraordinarily balky at doing anything other than text chat. However, what confuses me most about this is that the Connection Doctor 'Capabilities' tab suggests that the net connection for my family members (1024/128) is "too slow" for Screen Sharing - yet I have been using OSX VNC for two years perfectly successfully to do so?
Does using Screen Sharing directly have the same limitations?

    Hi,
In System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming change the Speed to 1.5Mbps
This should change what iChat sees as being Capable off once you restart iChat.
The VNC app Screen Sharing that Opens form the Finder > Go > Go to Server VNC:// does not include a Audio component.
This uses less bandwidth than the iChat Screen Sharing which does include an Audio stream.
Also the Screen Sharing is done on a separate port to the Audio part and from testing seems to be a random choice.
For this reason we have been suggesting using UPnP in any modem or router to allow ports.
Apple have not said what ports it uses
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1507?viewlocale=en_US Tiger A/V ports and Bonjour and Jabber
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2282?viewlocale=en_US Leopard A/V ports (It should say but does not that you still need the Jabber and Bonjour ones if using them).
This doc http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2020?viewlocale=en_US says you need iChat to see at least a connection speed of 128K UP and Down for Screen Sharing.
It is known that iChat Screen Sharing is based on Apple Remote Desktop but it does not use the same ports (5900 and 5988).

  • Screen sharing is not working at login screen

    Hi:
I need a little help.  I have a headless Mac (System A) that I just upgraded to Mountain Lion (not Mountain Lion Server) from Snow Leopard Server.
From another Mac (System B) running Mountain Lion I was previously able to use Screen Sharing to remotely acess System A's login screen.  Now, after upgrading from SL Server to ML I can only use Screen Sharing to remotely control System A from System B AFTER I have already logged into System A using a direct attached keyboard and screen.  In other words, I lost the ability to access the login screen on Sys A.
    Anyone have any ideas here???

I was having the same issue. In my case, I had copied /System/Library/CoreServices/Screen Sharing.app to the /Applications folder, some time ago. I did this so I could more easily launch Screen Sharing via Spotlight.  Because of this, when I launched Screen Sharing, I was executing the 'old' Screen Sharing app. I re-copied the 'new' app to /Applications, and all is well! Hope this helps!

  • WiFi Internet Sharing Suddenly not Working

I'm using a MacBook white early 2008 with Lion 10.7.5 installed on it
I have been using internet sharing features to share internet from my ethernet to WiFi for several years, and it's working fine
Suddenly today when i'm using iPhone, it stopped working.
My iPhone can connect to the WiFi network, but it can't connect to the internet shared by the MacBook.
What is the possible solution to this problem?
Is it hardware related? Maybe because i use the Internet Sharing features too much?
ps : When i'm using the WiFi to connect to another network, it works perfectly fine.

FYI - I spoke to Apple support earlier and this is still not an acknowledged issue. Ergo, no one is looking into it.
They have 'offered' to call me back when at home to go over my setup that was working fine in IOS5 but not IOS6 as the setup MUST be the issue. Not sure if I made things worse by pointing out that I'm and IT consultant and have worked with Apple systems for more years than I'd care to admit to.....
The support tech I spoke said that her home sharing works fine. Hmmmmm.
I'd suggest that EVERYONE puts in for a support callback (you can go through the iPad option and chose the 'I should get an exception for updating to ios6' option) and get them working.

  • Sharing suddenly not working properly

    Hi,
I have been sharing itunes on my imac with both an iphone 4 & ipad 2 for ages, all going smoothly.
Suddenly, about a month ago, both devices started to show only a handful of the artists and albums
whilst the actual songs individually are all shared. So on the song tab, all 4179 songs are listed, but
only 4 artists in the artist tab, and 75 albums in the album tab.
Have tried closing/re-starting, home sharing on/off etc. but nothing works.
The only non standard thing in my set up is that I have all the itunes media stored on an external drive.
Dont think this can be the issue though, as its been set up that way for about a year with no issues.
Would appreciate any ideas out there as to what is going on, and even how to fix.
    Thanks.
    My Specs:
    Quite old white plastic imac
    2.16 GHz Core 2
    1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    250 GB - 75 used
    iTunes 10.7 (21)
    iphone 4
    ipad 2
    External Drive - Samsung Story - 1 TB - 380 GB used
    Format: Mac OS Extended (Journaled)

  • Internet sharing suddenly not working, PC related problem

Here's the scenario. My Mac-Mini, using 10.7.4, is sharing its Wi-fi connection to my airport extreme base station through a hard-wired ethernet connection with a PC. So the mac is tethered via ethernet cable to the PC, so it can share its wifi connection to my AEBN. This arrangement has been working fine for over a year now.
Today I updated the PC's (running XP SP3)  browser from IE7 to IE8 so I could use some web based work related sites. But now I can't connect to the internet on the PC. The PC confirms it has a network connection, and it sending and receiving packets of data, but if you open a browser, any browser, it can't load or do any business whatsoever.
What I've checked: Nothing on the mac's system prefs have changed. The mac works on the internet just fine. I've run through the PC's network connection wizzard 3 times already, no joy on the browser, but the Mac is capable of seeing shared files on the PC. The PC firewall is off. I don't know what to do or who to talk to. I realize this probably isn't the place to seek help as I think its a Windows XP issue but I'm a Mac user and the connection is shared (because the PC has no wifi card) so its in a gray area.

Hey i also had this problem, i hard reset my device & it gone but soon came back the troubleshoot says DNS server isn't responding but i fix this by the help of my experience. It will also help U all. ••-:OLUTION::-••
First connect your lumia 800 to your pc the pc will show no internet access but don't worry this all IS BECAUSE OF A SETTINGS FAULT IN THE WINDOWS .Fix :- open network & sharing centre right click ur device name (ssid) then click on properties(status) then a dialog box will open click on device properties open second tab in which select your

  • 10.6.8 MBPro Screen Sharing suddenly can not connect to our other Macs.

We've used Screen Sharing from our MBPros for the past few years to manage our Mac file & media servers. Last year we replaced our G5 file server with a Mac Mini with Lion server. No problems - we could still use Screen Sharing to manage both this Lion file server and the Snow Leopard MacPro that's hooked up to our TV (among other things).
Friday morning my MBP could not see or connect to the Lion file server - the MBPs have the Lion server's data drives in Login Items so they mount when we log in. I also cound not Screen Share to either the Lion server or the SL MacPro. I checked the MBP's ethernet connection and could get to our router and the internet. When I tried to connect via Screen Sharing (by using the Share Screen... button in a Finder window, by using the Connect to Server command with vnc:// protocol, or by using the ScreenSharing menulet) I would get the "Connecting to Lion server" alert but nothing further. I left it for 10 minutes or so and it eventually disappeared but the connection never opened.
I checked the two servers and both were up and running. From the SL MacPro I could use Screen Sharing to get to the Lion server - and my MBPro too. From the Lion server I could Screen Share to the MacPro and my MBPro also.
The problem appeared to be with my MBPro. I switched to an unprivledged user account on it and found I could then get to both servers using Screen Sharing. So it was just my account on the MBPro. Rebooting did not help. Turning on AirPort, connecting to our home AirPort Extreme and unplugging the ethernet cable did not change anything with my account connecting to the servers.
I figured something somehow got pranged in my account's credentials. I used Keychain Access to delete all keychains containing the servers' names, IP addresses or sharing. I was asked for my credentials when I mounted the server's shared drives, but not when I tried Screen Sharing - got the same "Connecting to Lion server" or "Connecting to media server" dialogues and was never asked for username or password, but never connected either.
I cleared all caches using the utility Maintenance in case my MBPro was using invalid cached info. No improvement.
Saturday morning I shut down everything on our entire network - FiOS "modem"/router, Netgear gigabit switch, AirPort Snow, AirPort Extreme, MacPro, MacMini, both MacBookPros... even the FiOS cable box. Still no improvement.
IPv6 is disabled on the Lion server. All the Macs have all curent updates applied.
I've spent most of today Googling for solutions and trying them out. None have worked - though I see several very recent reports in these Apple Communities about Screen Sharing suddenly not working.
I really do not want to have to move to a new account on my MBP - and what's to say it won't happen again? Anyone have other suggestions?

    sunnovagun!
Hitting the Log Out button in the MobileMe panel worked. I can now connect to both the SnowLeopard and Lion servers just like I used to.
My condition appears to have been slightly different from yours, gmia - the MobileMe on my MBP had the correct info, but hose are not the credentials i use to remote to the two servers. I'm guessing that for some reason ScreenSharing began using my MobileMe credentials instead of what I had saved in the keychains.
Wonder if it had anything to do with the shutdown of the MM servers. That would be odd as using ones apple ID to log into a Mac remotely was new with Lion, and I had the same problem with our SnowLeopard server - which I remote into much more frequently.
Probably didn't hurt though to reboot the entire network...

  • Help! My MacBook is all of a sudden not working. I can login to my account but as soon as I do that the screen goes completely white. I can change the volume and I have a mouse but that is it. I've tried safe starting my computer and that doesn't work.

Help! My MacBook is all of a sudden not working past the login page. A white screen comes up that I cannot get rid of. I attempted a safe start up and that failed as well. It's a white screen where I have a mouse and when I click the volume buttons I can hear it working but nothing else just white. Please help.

Something you can try is resetting it all Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings. Or go to Settings > Store & sign out & log back in. Another thing you can do is restore your ipod. This has happened to me but the only thing i did was that i created a new account but try doing the things above i just told you. :)

  • Lync screen sharing doesn't work in Windows 10 Technical Preview (9879 Build)

Why Lync screen sharing doesn't work in Windows 10 Technical Preview?
It works well Windows 8.1, but why not in Windows 10?

    Hi PriTeddy,
    Thanks for your feedback.
As Paul Adare said, Microsoft has noticed such issue, they are listed in following blog:
    http://blogs.windows.com/bloggingwindows/2014/11/12/new-build-available-to-the-windows-insider-program/
    Some known problems:
As with the last build, you’re getting hot-off-the-presses code which means there are a few issues. We’ll be publishing WU updates shortly to fix the first two, but the remainder will not be fixed for 9879.
•In some cases you may get a black screen when trying to log-in or unlock. The only option is to hold the power button to hard reboot.
•You will be unable to connect to Distributed File System network locations.
•Some systems may see disk growth of 20GB+ due to driver install duplication. On systems with low disk space this can block setup and cause a rollback to the previous build.
•Skype calls will disconnect and Music will stop playing if those apps are minimized.
•There are several known issues with screen sharing with Lync.
    Let’s wait for next builds.

  • JBoss cluster shared session not working always

    Hi all,
I am using JBoss AS 4.0 for my Application, recently we need to scale the application, so we added another JBoss AS 4.0 in cluster. It is working fine with sticky session.
But we need to share the session state so we made the changes in JBoss service .xml and the Appache for shared session, as described in the Jboss administration documentation, but the session shareing is not working always, some time it is working, suddenly the session in the clustered server gone out,
please advice me what if i am missing, i cannot figure out
    thanks in advance

Hello. I actually raised a support request to Microsoft about this. It seems from my testing that when using user profile disks in 2012 r2 that shared activation doesn't work. Last update this was with engineering team at MS. Will update when they have
confirmed this is an actual bug.
