Screen Sharing turns itself off!

This is an issue that has turned up since moving to lion.
I have scren sharing enables in System Preferences > Sharing on my office mac and home mac. Sometimes I will try to screen share with one or the other mac and the Screen Sharing app will launch and just sit at the "Connecting to Home/Office Mac.." window for a while and then a Connection Failed window pops up telling me to enable screen sharing on the other mac.
When I get to the other mac, Screen sharing has been disabled and it wont allow me to re-enable it without restarting the computer. This same thing happens on both of my macs, so it doesn't seem to be an isolated incident. It happens fairly frequently.
Has anyone ever experienced this or have a solution?
Thanks

Try this on both machines and test to see if it works.  If not, you may need to run an update if not done so already.
Open System Preferences > Sharing
Turn OFF Screen Sharing, Remote Login, Remote Management, and Remote Apple Events (just turn everything off)
Now turn ON Screen Sharing, Remote Login, Remote Management, and Remote Apple Events
Now turn everything OFF again. We have just "kickstarted" those services.
Now enable the services you want. If you just want to access your computer through VNC or screen sharing, just turn on Screen Sharing.

  • Internet Sharing turns itself off after a minute or so

I have an Intel iMac running 10.5.2. Up until a week ago, I was sharing my internet connection with a Windows computer and a wii. Last weekend, the connection went dead, I reset the modem and rebooted my computer, and the internet connection is fine, but the Mac won't share it. I select Internet Sharing in the Preferences, the green dot appears, and for a minute, I can use the internet on the P.C. Then it's off. The preferences panel shows that it's on, but if I reopen preferences, it's no longer checked as on. I've deleted the com.apple.nat.plist file in the library, but no luck.
My system has cable internet to a router, and splitting it 3 ways. It's worked fine for 2 months, until now.

The problem seems to have come from my wireless transmitter (to my wii). I hit a few buttons on it and the problem solved itself. Why would an outside product over-ride my macs internet sharing? No idea, but it's solved for today at least.

  • My MacBook Pro just turned itself off while installing Windows 7. It has now got a black screen with a white flashing bar in the top left corner...what can I do?

I was just installing windows 7 onto my MacBook Pro. I selected to have 200GB for Windows and the rest leave for Mac.
I clicked install and the bar filled up as it should do. However, once the install had completed, my MacBook turned itself off. I assumed this was normal. Now, my MacBook has a black screen with a white flashing underscore in the top left corner.
What is wrong and what should I do?

Hold down the Option key when starting up then on the sceen that comes up select Mac OS X to boot from.
The Win 7 install didn't go well and is hung in some way. You should use boot camp assistant to remove the win partition and start over.
Make sure you are using a Retail version of Win 7. A Branded OEM version, like ones from Dell and HP, will NOT work to install Windows 7 on your Mac.

  • HT4061 I got a brand new iPhone 4S on contract last week and since I've had it it's been over heating and it's turned itself off once and every now and then the screen flickers I just wanted to know is this a common thing as I've never had an iPhone befor

My new iPhone 4S that I have had a for about a week keeps over heating a lot and its turned itself off once and I couldn't turn it on for over half an hour, also my screen flickers from time to time and I'm not sure what to do as I not had an iPhone before can anybody help me please I would be very greatful.

    No, it's not normal.
Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).
Frankly though, considering it's new, take it back to Apple.

  • Why does my 1st gen iPad always turns itself off and goes back to the screen. Whether I'm reading news, iBooks, etc, suddenly it goes off.

Why does my 1st gen iPad always turns itself off and goes back to the screen. Whether I'm reading news, iBooks, etc, suddenly it goes off.

If that doesn't help, the battery may be dying and need replacement. See here (tap on Battery Replacement): http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_States&product=ipad
Alternately, might consider start saving for a new iPad. The newest iPad 6 should come out in the next few months. When it does, sellers will want to get rid of old inventory with good deals.

  • My Iphone 4 keeps trying to turn itself off and also takes random screen shots.  I think it might have something to do with the Sleep/Awake button but any help would be greatly appreciated.

My Iphone is constantly trying to turn itself off and also taking screen shots when I'm not touching it.  I think it may have something to do with the Sleep button but would welcome any suggestions. I have already restored it to Factory settings but it didn't help.
    Thanks,

Did you try to set it up as new device, without using the latest backup?

  • IPhone screen doesn't turn itself off when on lockscreen

Ever since I updated to 3.1.3, if I leave my phone somewhere locked, and I get a notification it lights up the screen, as it used to, but then it never turns itself off again. Which means if I'm at work for example, get a text 5 minutes after I start then my phones screen is left on all day, leading to the battery being flat by the time I finish work.
I have auto-lock set to 1 minute so that is no the issue.
If anyone has any idea on what could be causing this and how to fix it I'd appreciate it!
    Thanks

Then the next step would be a restore, with or without your backup. See p. 204... http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPhone_UserGuide.pdf
You might also play around with your auto-lock settings... on/off, different times, etc.

  • When I turn my ipod on why does the screen stay blank and then turn itself off?

When I turn my ipod on the normal start up screen appears with the apple logo in the middle, but then after a few seconds the screen goes blank and it turns itself off. It was working fine the other day. I even charged it overnight to make sure that it wasnt because it was out of battery. I dont know what to do, it has over 600 songs on it and around 300 photos, I know that the memory isnt full because I checked the other day and it said I had around 1GB left. I cant do anything on at all because the screen just goes blank and then turns itself off. Please help, thank you

Well, I strongly suspect that a gig isn't quite enough "extra" storage to allow operation.
However, first, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • MBP turns itself off after grey screen

    hello,
i tried searching the forums for this problem but didn't find why this is happening to me. i tried to install leopard upgrade dvd on my mbp and had many problems just as it couldn't find 10.4 and so on, just like many others have had. then i decided to give up and just go back to 10.4.11 but my computer didn't recognize it as a startup. so i decided to eject the leopard dvd and restart and my computer now goes from the spinning wheel on the grey screen and then turns itself off completely.
    i have tried:
    1. disk utility (when i was installing leopard)
    2. reset my pram
    3. waiting 10min on the language screen
sorry if this problem has been resolved. i would appreciate any help..

    Hi T,
IIRC, the three flashes (used to be beeps) indicates bad RAM. Do you have any other compatible RAM available to try?

  • IPod turns itself off in dock

I have a new iPod classic 160gb. From time to time, the iPod turns itself off while playing, but only while in a speaker dock. This has happened in two different docks, including the Bose SoundDock and the Griffin Journi. Somewhere midway through a song, the music stops, the backlight comes on, it goes into charging mode. If I hit play, it continues as if nothing has happened.
I don't have a problem listening through headphones, anyone else see this?

    Add me to this list.
Along with the frustrating, well known and widely shared iTunes freezing issues, my (second, first one returned)silver 160GB classic also experiences this 'shutoff' in my iHome dock. I haven't had this issue with my DLO Homedock deluxe, but when in my iHome speaker dock playback starts fine but then just shuts off midway through a song when it feels like it, then like was said, goes to the charging battery screen. So, this new iPod has made iTunes, old video docks and now even my iHome dock worthless. I've really begun to question the intellegence of this 'upgrade'.

  • IPhone 5C - Turned itself off and won't come back on.

I have owned this phone since the day it came out (20th September) and it was fine up until a few weeks ago. It decided - frequently - to reboot itself, lines would appear on my screen and the brightness would decrease until the phone turned itself off. Soon the apple logo would appear and everything would be fine. I noticed that it would do this while I was on it while it was charging or when a lot of apps were open. I avoided doing these things, but it still would happen. Sometimes it would do it and the apple logo would not appear - I learned of the holding down the home and sleep/wake button at the same time hack, and would do that to get it back on. As time went on the problem would persist, sometimes it would take a few attempts to get the phone back on - I removed some recent apps and the phone was fine for about a week.
Last Friday the phone did it again, so I decided to factory reset/restore through iTunes and then restore my backup. For a couple of days the phone was fine, up until last night where the phone switched off - thinking this was like all the other times I did what I'd usually do. But nothing, I've left it to charge, I've attempted to restore it. When I go to restore it the apple logo appears and the process bar appears, however iTunes turns around and says that it cannot restore the phone.
I went onto here to try and attempt to have it sent back for service, I put in my IMEI number, and it said that I need to turn "Find my iPhone" off, I did that and now it says that it's still on, when it isn't!
Does anyone know what I can do? Or shall I just ring them and figure out how to send it back through that?

This happened to me yesterday. This probably isn't any use to you now, but for others with this question. This morning I took the back off of my phone, and I took the battery out and plugged it in to my laptop. It immediately lit up. We put the battery back in and restored it and it works better than ever. Not sure if this will work for all, but it worked for me!

  • My iPhone 4S keeps turning itself off when I still have battery life and then it doesn't charge?

It's only just started doing this and it's really annoying me now!! Ha
I'll charge my phone up overnight then a couple of hours into the next day the battery wil be down to about 20% then it will say I only have 10% left even though I will have 20% if you see what I mean? And then to top it off it turns itself off and won't let me recharge!!
It did happen to my iPad the other week but that seems to be fine now.
I've tried changing and checking chargers etc but they seem to work it other people's and my iPad seems fine now

    Hi there glee154!
I have an article here that can help you troubleshoot this issue with your iPhone. The article is about troubleshooting a multitude of iPhone hardware issues, and can be found right here:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
The specific section you will want to reference can be found here:
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 15 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

  • Hard Drive Turning Itself Off

    Hey,
Recently my Toshiba Netbook NB505-N508BL hard drive would turn itself off and then after a few seconds, it would turn itself on and sometimes this happens right after another, sometimes a few minutes later. I turned the "turn hard drive off after X minutes" option off in windows 7, but it is still doing the turning off then on thing. When the hard drive is off, I can still surf the web and play game or listen to music, but when it's about to turn on, my screen would freeze for about 1 sec. I used the check for disk error thing, but it didn't find anything.
So I used an external optical drive and formatted the hard drive and did a fresh install of windows 7. At first I thought the problem was gone, but on the 2nd day, the hard drive started turning itself off and on again. I am not sure if there's a problem with any of my netbook devices or not, but they are all functional. My suspicion is that it's about to die, so I downloaded a few disk diagnostic programs. I ran the quick and full test, both turned out "pass". I am currently out of ideas and couldn't find anyone with the same problem online.
I have back ups of my files, so I'm not that worried. I am just really annoyed by that sound as if the system would shut down any minute. Anyone have any solution to this?
    Thanks a lot!

LMAO, should have known not to ask in here XD

  • Set date and time automatically keeping turning itself off?

Every time I go to the App Store I get a pop-up stating that it can't connect and that this may be caused by an incorrect date and time setting.  I go to Settings and discover that "Set Automatically" has somehow turned itself off.  I can turn it back on and then access the App Store.  Until the next time.  When the whole problem starts over.  Why won't it stay on Set Automatically?  Thanks.

Try this first. Reboot your iPad.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If that doesn't work, you can reset all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset all Settings. That will turn all of the settings back to factory defaults and you will have to enter them again. You will not lose any data.
You can also try restoring from a backup - if you have a recent backup. The backup contains the device settings and that just might work. It worked for me when I was experiencing the very same problem that you are having.
