Screen Sharing Warning when in use

Hi,
Main question: "So what I would like is if anyone knows a way to just having a warning dialog when someone is connecting to screen sharing."
So here is my issue.
I have a MBP and I share an iMac with my GF. We both have administrator accounts.
So the other day we got home and I went on my MBP and wanted to clean up some files on the iMac. So I just screen shared into the computer but I didn't know that my GF was on the computer.
So she is upset that I have this ability to view the screen without her really knowing (I know there is a small icon).
But I also love remotely using my computers.
So what I would like is if anyone knows a way to just having a warning dialog when someone is connecting to screen sharing.

There is a way...
You can send a full screen message to the computer being controlled, but this will allow you to block your GF screen.
This is called Curtain Mode

  • IChat Screen Sharing Stops when Switching Between Displays

Hi. Have been doing iChat quite nicely with my Dad for years and now I have a problem. Running current Snow Leopard 10.6.2 on both Macs, iChat 5.0.1. I usually hop onto his screen to help him solve problems, answer questions, do updates, etc. Until very recently, I have been able to switch between his desktop and mine by clicking on the small alternate display window. I could work on his computer and mine by simply switching between them in this manner. Now, suddenly, iChat screen sharing stops when I click on my display in the small window. This action returns me to my display, but the screen sharing session ends and I need to request it again. Any idea what might be going on here? I'm stumped. Thanks.

    Hi,
Is there any chance you are clicking on the top left hand corner (where the red blob would be) as this will Quit Screen Sharing ?

  • Screen Sharing and WindowServer processes using 35-45% of CPU!!

I have recently relocated and reconfigured my Apple network and computers in the house :1) MacBook Air dual display MBA with 20" cinema screen in the office, and 2) and Mac Mini connected to a large LCD TV in the living room.
The plan now is to use the MBA as a primary computer and connect via wireless screen sharing to the MM so that I can monitor that system, run more intensive apps, watch EyeTV, file server tasks, etc.
But now this has increased CPU and fan activity on the MBA beyond what I would expect. The activity monitor indicates that the Screen Sharing and WindowServer processes are using combined between 35-45% of the CPU (screen share process is a constant 25%!!).
This is not good, and I wonder if it will be fixed in a future release. Any ideas or suggestions on how to limit the impact of screen sharing on CPU?

It seems to be running better with system update, and use of a faster computer (now using the higher end mac book air)

  • Screen Sharing crashes when trying to connect.

    I'm on my MacBookPro (10.6.6).
When I try to connect to my desktop (10.6.8) (from clicking the Share Screen button in finder) I get the "enter name and password" box. When I enter the info, I get a crash "Screen Sharing closed unexpectedly" and then I'm left with the "enter name and password" dialog with a spinning "connecting" status floating above my screen forever (killing the finder does nothing to it).
The macbook connects to my G5 running 10.5.8 with no problem. The G5 connects to both macbook and other desktop fine. The other desktop connects to the macbook and G5 fine.
    Anyone have any thoughts?

Try and create a new standard user account on the MBP, and check if you can connect from this one. If so, something's wrong on your current account. You might consider migrating from the old to the new one, and delete the former after that.
If you can't connect at all, go to System Preferences, disable file sharing, then go to /Library/Preferences, locate the com.apple.preferences.sharing plist file, and relocate it on your Desktop (admin password required). Reboot your Mac, relaunch/enable file sharing, and let your system create a new com.apple.preferences.sharing plist file.

  • Screen Sharing Available - In Lab Use

I teach in a computer lab with 28 imacs. Recently my Remote Desktop (3.2.2) is showing the all imacs in the lab, but some of the imacs are showing Current Status: "Screen Sharing Available" and I can't control them. The other half or so show exactly what program the user is currently using. What setting has changed on their computer. How can I fix this?

I think I've got the answer. ARD-related ports must me open for BOTH client and admin computers. Although my remote client (which is in another city) is connected directly to a cable modem via ethernet (so there's no need to map any ports) my ADMIN computer was behind an Airport Extreme Base Station. I thought there was no need to do any port mapping on this router because I was not the client, but since full ARD control consists in information both coming from AND going to the admin, ports must be mapped in both points of the "net". So I enabled "Apple Remote Desktop" under "Advanced> Port Mapping" in Airport Utility and now I'm not having problems anymore. If your router is not Airport Extreme, then you should open ports 3283 and 5900 (both TCP and UDP) in all your routers. If it is a local network, then the ports must me mapped to the admin computer's IP address.

  • I am looking for a Meeting/ Screen Sharing Application on iPad2 using which I can provide presentation/ screen sharing to other iPad or Windows PC.

I am looking for presentation/ screen sharing application for iPad 2. Similar to WEBEX or GoToMeeting using which I can give presentation using an iPad.

For sharing between iPads, this might be worth a look:
    http://www.ideaflight.com/
Cisco has a WebX application for the iPad that says it allows scheduling, hosting, and attending meetings. There is a client for GoToMeeting for iPad, but I believe that you can only attend, not host.

  • ENTIRE screen goes grey when I use siri.

Before ios7 when I held the home button to activate siri, I was still able to view the page that I was on. So, if there was a phone number that I needed siri to dial (I realize you can click on most phone numbers and iphone will ask whether you'd like to call the number you clicked - but there are many web pages out there where his feature simply doesn't work - clicking on the phone number elicits no response from iphone), I would hold down the home button and tell siri to dial the 10 digit number that I'm looking at on the screen. With iOS7, holding down the home button to activate siri turns the entire screen grey, so I can't read the number off. I literally had to go and grab a pen and paper, wrote the number down while the screen wasn't COMPLETELY GREY, then ask siri to dial the number as I read it off the pad of paper. This is not only inconvenient, it's completely idiotic. What's the point of the grey screen???

Simplistic in design, does not always help with use.
Simple icon....or icon that doesn't say anything useful.
clean black screen.....nice to look at but not useful.
clean icons, nice to view, but not useful in determining what the icon represent.
many apps per folder, but only to allow a few to be viewed, thus making many mini folders/pages within a folder.
simple, elegant, etc....doesn't mean it makes it better or easier to use.

  • LED screen goes out when in use

Lately, my ibook screen suddenly goes dark while in use. It seems to be random, not linked to any certain behavior.
    Anyone else having this problem?

    Hi, Erin.
Does adjusting the angle, opening it or closing it a bit, make a difference?
You could try resetting the PMU. The PMU (Power Management Unit) has control over the backlight, so resetting it may help.
Please let us know how things go for you.

  • No Entry sign on start up screen goes dark when I use utility disk

    HELP!!!!
Everything was fine no strange noises or bad behavior but when I started up my MacBook Pro I get a "No Entrance Sign" (or what-ever it's called).
I have unplugged all the peripherals (external drives, monitor, etc) but to no avail.
When I tried booting from a Utilities disk (Disk Warrior) the screen went dark and I could not see the instructions (it was there but very dark and dim).
Is there anything I can do or am I doomed?
    HELP!!!!
    Thanks.

Er, it looks like a "No Entrance" sign. It's OK the cats at The Genius bar understood - they call it a "No Entrance" sign too. It basically means you're screwed and need to get a  new internal drive. Luckily I managed to make a rushed back-up so things are not too severe (just expensive).

  • Am getting a security warning when I use FireFox, how do I resolve it?

message says: ''Although this page is encrypted, the information you have entered is to be sent over an unencrypted connection and could easily be read by a third party". I have a WPA secure wireless connection and this message does not appear if I use IE.
    should I be worried???

    To Remove plug-in
1.) Open the SplashID desktop app
2.) Navigate from Menu bar "File" -> "Plugin for Safari" -> "Uninstall".
I could not find it in either Library/Internet Plug-ins nor ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins as others have suggested.
    Cheers!

  • Screen sharing icon in Messages dimmed out when it shouldn't be

Running OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 on 2009 27" iMac. I was attempting to share my screen with another person also running OS X Yosemite (also 10.10.2) via Messages and the screen sharing icon is dimmed out (while both FaceTime video and audio icons are NOT dimmed out). I went through creating and entering an app specific password for both Messages and FaceTime and my iCloud account is signed into both. Tried signing out and back in as well, but that did not resolve it. Tried rebooing as well, but the issue remains. The other person is able to screen share with other individuals running Yosemite so I assume it's something on my end, but I have no idea what.
    Ideas?

    Hi,
    The App is Messages.
It can have an iMessages account is use.
This distinction is becoming more important as time goes on.
In Yosemite the Messages App can start a  Video (or Audio and also Screen Sharing) two different ways.  (it's related bear with me).
As the iChat app the AIM and Jabber accounts have been able to Video chat within the app since iChat 2 for AIM accounts and iChat 3 for Jabber when it was added.  (Screen Sharing is added at iChat 4)
This needs the Video Menu > Enable the three items for Video, Audio and Screen Sharing.
In Yosemite the iMessages account can start a video from the Main window when a text Chat is going on using the Details option to right.
To start an AIM Video chat (same for Jabber and Bonjour) you need the Buddy list to be displayed, Highlight the Buddy and then use either the icon at the bottom of the Buddy List or the Buddies menu.
To Start an iMessages Video chat you need to first set up FaceTime with the same Apple ID account (it can be done with a different ID but this can cause confusing at the other end about who is calling).
Then you use the Details option having started a Text (iMessages) chat with them.
This in turn Invokes the FaceTime App and 'Calls' the ID your are iMessaging to.  If you are using a different ID in FaceTime they see that and not the one in the iMessages account.
    Screen Sharing
Screen Sharing is similar in that it (iMessages account) invokes an outside app to do the Screen Sharing.
You first need to go to System Preferences > Sharing and enable the Screen Sharing item.
Then in Messages in the Main window during a iMessages Chat/conversation with someone you need to use the Details option top right and select the Linked Squares for the Screen Sharing.
This invokes the Screen Sharing App (System/Library/Core Services/Applications) and connects the two computers with and Audio chat along side.
For the iChat type accounts (AIM, Jabber and Bonjour) you use the Buddy list like the Video chats.
    NOTES.
If you have other Macs on your LAN and they appear in the Finder's Side bar as Shares you can select them and use the button in the Finder Window to Screen Share with those Macs.
This too invokes the Screen Sharing app.
Another way is to use the Go Menu in the Finder > Go to Server and enter VNC:// and the IP address instead of AFP or SMB (Or Browse instead)
In the System Preferences > Sharing you will also find Remote Management.
This cannot be on the same time as Screen Sharing. However in use from the Finder it allows the Screen Sharing described above.
All of these use the Client end of Apple Remote Desktop (ARD).
However the Finder methods described do not come wither Audio Chat described for the iMessages  or AIM/Jabber/Bonjour way.
Also if you try to use the Details method with an AIM or Jabber of Bonjour Buddy it will not work as it tries to do this the iMessages way.
Basically "icons" and "Messages"  is not enough to say where you are in the app to pin point this further.

  • Burned Image on screen, but only when using Safari

I have a burned image on my IPhone's screen, but only when I use Safari. Additionally, when I open Safari's multiple window viewer feature, the image is there as well. The home screen and every other app is unaffected. Turning off and on the phone does nothing to fix the problem.
I know removing the casing and battery is an adventure, so I am trying to avoid it if I can.
Can anyone think of a way to fix this problem?
    Thanks for the help.

    Troubleshoot Safari extensions ..
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.

  • Screen Sharing and ARD broken

    Hi,
I have 10.9.4. I had remote management switched on and it was working fine.
I installed ARD 3.7 and started it up fine and it was running fine allowing me to do all what I needed.
I also need to remote to this Mac and so set the preference in ARD to allow control whilst the app was running. Thats when it went pear shaped.
It suddenly stopped allowing remote access to the machine.
I now have to be physically at the unit. I have removed ARD and all the files it has added and switched off all screen sharing and Remote Management in Sys Pref. Restarted and switched on Remote Management again.
I can still not access the machine remotely (i.e. screen sharing).
When trying to use screen sharing on the Mac itself to remote onto another machine I get the following in Console.

I can ssh to the machine fine, just not screen share (VNC).
Any help to fix allowing VNC to the machine would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards
    Keith

    Further,
I have run a port scan and confirmed that port 5900 is open.
When using COTVNC it sort of sits there trying to connect but doesn't show the screen. If whilst it is trying I switch off Remote Management then COTVNC instantly throws up the error that screen sharing is not enabled.
Thus I am deducing that the actual VNC server of the os is goosed.

  • Screen Sharing Not Working

I have screen sharing turned on and it works fine when I'm in the house in front of the computer on the same network, but when I'm at the office trying to share the screen it is not working. I'm I doing anything wrong?
I have the Macbook Pro hooked up to my TV (main monitor). I have the computer screen on "never sleep" (computer screen is damaged from motorcycle accident-can't damage any more) and the keyboard lights turns off after 5 seconds of none use.

I'm leaving my personal MacBook pro at the house and using my office MacBook Pro trying to share the screen. I'm using the assigned vnc://ipaddress to login. What I mean by not working is that I get a message stating that my computer cannot be found. I drive home from the office (I don't do anything to the house computer) and sit in my yard and screen sharing works.
Most likely when you are in your yard, you are connecting to your home WiFi network and this by definition is the same as being in the living room.
If I need to configure my home router to port forwarding I'm not sure I know what to do and how to do it.
Depends on the make and model of router. A Google search for "Port Forward yourroutermake yourroutermodel" will most likely find instructions.
I'm talking my Mom, who lives in Louisiana, into buying a Mac and I told her I could help in Arkansas by screen sharing. So, is Port Forwarding a default feature on most routers?
Yes, most routers allow Port Forwarding, however, for your Mom there are other options.
    a) Get 2 Free AOL Instant Messaging (AIM) accounts. Give one to your Mom. Now use iChat and in Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) there is an iChat option where you can ask your Mother to share her screen or she can click a button to export her screen to you.
    b) If your mother is not going to be around when you work on her Mac, you could install an iChat add-on called Chax which has an option to always accept requests for screen sharing. Your Mother would have to be very careful about who she allows in your iChat "Buddy List". This is also an option for your work vs home situation.
    c) Skype has a Mac OS X beta version that includes Screen sharing. You could use this for your Mom. No home router issues.
    d) You can subscribe to Apple's MobileMe service and use the Back-to-My-Mac feature. You must make both your systems and your Mom's Mac part of your account. Is not suppose to have home router issues, but Back-to-My-Mac works best with Airport Extreme or Express routers.
    e) You can use LogMeIn.com for screen sharing. No home router issues. However, LogMeIn.com is not as fast. However, it is fairly reliable and easy to get setup.
    f) You can Port Forward the screen sharing ports in your and your Mom's home router.
I would like to have control of the mac at home and my Mom's new mac. How screen sharing works when I am at the house is exactly what I need. I see the other MacBook Pro in a window on my MacBook Pro computer and I have full control of the Mac.
You can get full control, you just need to deal with your home router.
Also note: Depending on how your Work network is setup, you may nave to deal with corporate firewalls that may not be happy passing your screen sharing requests.
So do you have a corporate firewall? Do you have to configure a Proxy server in System Preferences -> Network -> Advanced -> Proxy? If you do, then you may have additional hurdles connecting from work to home.
However, going from your home to your Mom's Mac only needs to deal with Port Forwarding on your Mom's home router.
