Screen sharing with dual monitors

I have a user on the network with a 13" MBP w/ 10.6.8 with an external display (23" Dell LED) set up to its right.  The user typically leaves Mail open on the 13" display and runs her other apps on the external display.  I'm running a 17" MBP w/ 10.8.1 with a 27" LED Cinema Display set up to its right.
When I try to share her screen, things go strange.  It used to show the two displays correctly in a large window on my LED, but at some point when I was running Lion, and for no apparent reason (I didn't notice it immediately after an update, for example), the whole thing seemed to shift to the right by one screen width.  Honestly, I can't think of a way to describe it, but I can simultaneously give you a screen shot and show off my amazing 'Shop skrillz.  Behold:
Please forgive the atrocity that is this pixel homocide.  If you tell me what's wrong with the screen sharing and how to fix it, I promise never to destroy harmless pixels again.  Anytime soon, anyway.

Hi,
They could of course set the screen/Monitor to Mirror for a while as well
Also in the arrangement part of the Displays they could set it to have on on top of the other which might display slightly better if your Screen is 4 X 4 ratio

  • IChat screen sharing with dual monitors on client

    Hello,
I'm trying to help a buddy out via screen sharing. The problem is he has two monitors. When I connect, they both appear as one display on my monitor resulting in a very small & hard to view image.
Is there a way to only show one monitor at a time? I know this works with regular screen sharing when Macs are on the same LAN, but I can't figure out how to do it via iChat.
    thanks,
    Shaun

  • IChat Screen Sharing with Multiple Monitors

I love the new Screen Sharing feature included in iChat 4 as part of Leopard. It is an incredible diagnostic tool that will make it much easier for Mac users to help support each other.
The problem I've run into is that our "standard" config at work is a 15" MacBook Pro with a 23" external display. When doing Screen Sharing from this system, both displays are shrunk to about half their size so they can fit on the main screen of the remote computer. In many cases this works fine, but the images and text can be pretty small on the viewing computer.
Is there any way to control the scaling on the viewing computer? Is there any way on the computer that is being shared to say, only share this monitor?
Just trying to find a way to make the image easier to see on the remote computer.
    Steve

Try to run all displays in the same resolution (the settings of the less advanced, smaller display, not the other way around). Additional displays require additional processing, close other applications. Unplug the 23" for now, try it when you've got everything else running. Restart connected computers after you've changed settings on any detectable display. Make sure the bandwidth is sufficient for screen sharing on both ends. (I would use Spaces on the remote computer to create speedy access to applications.) When this works, try to connect the external display.

  • Full Screen Problem With Dual Monitor Viewing

I have a 64 Bit system, Chrome browser and with flash player built in.  I am attempting to view videos on a 2nd monitor while working on the primary monitor.  I have tried this on various sites, TNT.tv, USANetworks.com, etc...  I select full screen viewing.  A message is displayed to exit full screen press escape.  However, when I attempt to do anything else automatically exit full screen on the second monitor.   This should not be an issue and with the way most people view video online, they are doing so on a 2nd monitor or TV.  I have done a google search and it is a common problem, but there is no solution that seems to work.

I have just posted the same question - missed yours.
Adobe could you take a look into this - I think solving this problem can't be that hard.

  • Video Call and desktop sharing with dual monitor s...

    Hello,
    my setup:
    - 2 PCs, each with
    - 2 FullHD monitors
    - Logitech C920 FullHD webcam
For our video meetings we want to have the shared desktop from the other participant on monitor 1 and the video stream from the other participant on monitor 2. Each one in fullscreen.
Is the possible with the free Skype version? I don't find an option... If not, is it in possible in Skype 4 Business/Lync?
    Thanks
    Matthias

    Hello,
It's workign now....It was just SIP security profile issue. I re-created the same and it started working..
Now i am not sure if we can control the remote desktop or just view the remote desktop. Could you please clarify this?
    Thanks,

  • Full screen issues with dual monitors in safari.

I have my 21 inch iMac connected to my 42" panasonic LCD TV. Up until recently I've been watching TV via my sling box back in the states. (I'm a soldier stationed in Germany). When I go to a full screen mode in Safari, I get full screen in my iMac and not the TV. Even when the window is in the TV. This never happened before, it's almost as if the iMac sees the TV but makes all full screen video available only on itself rather than where ever the window may be. Safari help tells me I can choose where I want full screen by swiping on the magic mouse, but I can't get it to work. How do I get my video to stay on my TV when I double click on the video instead of having it jump back to the iMac?

Reading your post full screen mode is working as Apple intended it to. When you set full screen mode on an app that has the ability it makes it full screen on the Mac and any other monitor is left blank while viewing that app. Currently there are no adjustments to change this. I would recommend providing feedback to Apple at www.apple.com/feedback to let them know what you anticipated.

  • Snow Leopard does not remember screen position with dual monitor

    Hello,
I have an external monitor, which I like to be on top of my Macbook Pro monitor. In the monitor preference pane, I can set the monitor disposition such that my external monitor (main monitor) appears on top of my laptop (secondary monitor). However, every time I unplug the external monitor, I have to do the settings again, because when I plug it back, it shows as "side-by-side" configuration.
How can I make this setting stick ?
    Thanks

    Try deleting a related plist:
    ~yourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    Then reset position.

Extra Notes: I have another desktop session with awesome installed(uninstalled now) and could log into that no problem. Awesome was giving me troubles so I uninstalled it. I have 2 gnome desktop sessions, my regular gnome session(the one that crashes), and the other with no window manager(never crashed on startup).
I installed awesome around the same time as configuring the dual monitor setup.
    Thanks.

    Update.
The crashes are to be expected now. I'm circumventing the whole thing by logging into my other Gnome session without a window manager, logging out and then logging back into my regular Gnome with Metacity.
I've noticed the tty1 sessions(not sure what's it's called) is strange. Apparently my session runs on tty8 but when I try logging in, it'll crash me and tty7 gives me a blank screen with a blinking underscore. The other tty1s work regularly. Not sure if this has anything to do with it.
Is there a way to just reset the Gnome settings?

  • [SOLVED] openbox margins with dual monitors

    Hi community,
I have stumbled to a nasty problem on my first incursion to dual monitors in openbox.
I'm using xrandr with this command (which works just fine BTW):
xrandr --output LVDS --mode 1280x800 --primary --output VGA-0 --mode 1280x1024_60.00 --gamma 1.0:1.4:0.85 --right-of LVDS
and have set a Virtual screen in xorg.conf of 2560 x 1024 pixels.
But, my laptop monitor only handles 1280x800, while my external LCD monitor has 1280x1024, so there is a virtual area under my laptop screen which i'm not using, but i dont really care about that.
The problem is that when I'm setting screen margins, so that maximized windows will respect the panels in the bottom (tint2), in rc.xml (or by obconf) the margins are applied to the virtual screen and only are practical on the external monitor wich has more pixel height.
I'm really missing some kind of per monitor margin settings in openbox, maybe there is and i haven't found it? It makes me wonder because openbox can maximize windows to a single monitor, even if the whole layout it's treated like a virtual screen, so it has some way of distinguishing between them.
I would appreciate any suggestions, thanks.

TL;DR - I'm not aware of any acceptable solution at the moment.
Basically, what you're having problems with, is the "dead area." It can really be quite a pain in the butt if window managers or other screen aware applications don't anticipate it properly. To my knowledge, Openbox doesn't support margins on a monitor-by-monitor basis. In reality, you shouldn't need to be setting margins anyway. Tint2 should be reporting itself as a taskbar, and Openbox should be respecting that.
I have dead area too, with multiple monitors, and Openbox respects both of the KDE taskbars I have running (one on each monitor). (I use KDE and simply replaced Kwin with Openbox.) This tells me that tint2 should be able to cooperate with Openbox. I remember trying tint2 a while ago, and didn't fine it adequate in a dual monitor environment (it was probably a year ago or so). tint2 would need to be setting the _NET_WM_STRUT_PARTIAL hint, and I'm not sure if it is (or if it's doing it properly). See http://standards.freedesktop.org/wm-spe … #id2507618
Also, I do know that the developer for Openbox recently got a dual monitor setup, and she's been adding additional support for dual monitors a little at a time. Hopefully with 3.5, there will be a lot more support. (Margin support for multiple monitors would be great, because it could be a good utility knife for applications that don't care about multi-monitors setups and don't set the proper hints.)
If you're capable of modifying tint2, my course of action would be to try something that works (like the KDE taskbars) and record the hints being set there. Then compare them with tint2 and try to mirror KDE's setup. (If you're a programming lacking experience with X and related nonsense, I'd be more than willing to offer what guidance I have.)
Also, I developed a panel myself (and got pretty far along) using the PyGTK toolkit... But I can't remember if I solved this problem or not. I'll try to check it out and get back to you. (I got as far as implementing a widget system that includes a task list, system tray, clock, menus... It just isn't polished very well. My original intention was for it to be a more robust PyPanel with dual monitor support.)

  • Interfacing with dual-monitor machine

    Hello all--
I've got a G5 at home with dual monitors on which I run 3D animation software with lots of panels. I'd like to be able to control the G5 from work using a laptop (possibly also connected to an external monitor). Is it possible to display both screens of the desktop using ARDv3 on the laptop? Some users have mentioned they can do this but the size of the remote screens is unsatisfactory. So, again, can you visualize both screens well via the remote computer?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

you can view both screens at once but it will be scaled to fit on the screen you have... so what you see is dependent on the resolution of both client monitors and your admin computer's monitor.
you can also select to view a single monitor of the client computer.
i've never run ARD admin on a computer with 2 monitors so i'm not sure how it handles it but i'm guessing that you can view both monitors on both admin monitors.... it'll probably scale down or up dependent on resolution.

  • Remove little window "my computer" screen when screen sharing with iChat?

Anyone know if it is possible to remove or minimize the little window when screen sharing with iChat? if you try to drag it off the screen, it just pops back. It does not seem possible to close it without getting booted out of the screen sharing.

As the "little Screen" is either your Desktop or the other Desktop depending which you have as the current one you are working in it seems silly to have no access to changing back and forth.
But as you say or rather imply it does sometimes occupy the space you want someone at the other end to see and you can not access that part of the screen or if the other end is trying to show you something it can be hidden my your own desktop.
AT present Not Even Chax does what you want.

  • Lion Screen Sharing with Full Screen apps on Remote Lion

Has anyone figured out how to EASILY work with multiple desktops and full screen apps on the remote mac when Screen Sharing with one Lion mac from another?  All of the standard methods of switching between desktops and full screen apps (swipe, cmd + <arrow>, etc) all take place on the the local Mac, and not the remote one.
The only real effective methods I have found so far are using the dock (not elegant with full screen apps), and removing an app from full screen.  Either way, these methods are clumsy and do not compliment the new features that Lion provides.

You're not going to believe this.
Problem was on my buddy's end.  The  slash key "/" was stuck down on her keyboard.
Sometimes the solution is so far out of normal troubleshooting, you're luck if you ever find it...
Nothing to see here, move along...

  • Need to launch Organizer Twice to work with Dual Monitors

If I open a project or either Photoshop Elements 10 or PRE10 and then click on Organizer it loads, but sits in the taskbar below. If I hover over it the AERO Windows (Win 7) pops up showing it's loaded. But It will not maximize. This is when I had last used it on a second monitor so I can easily compare before and afters. However, if I right click on it and close it, then reopen it, it launches perfectly in the 2nd monitor. Does this every time. I ussually leave it open all the time now to avoid this but I don't know how sesitive the catalogs are if the system is rebooted for some reason.
I did no specific configuration for dual monitors, Just dragged it over there when I wanted to use it.
    Thanks,
    Joe..

    Hi Joe,
This is a known issue with dual monitors and got to know that Organizer people are tracking it as a bug for now.
Hope this will be fixed soon.
