Screen shot file time is wrong

I've taken a few screen shots in the past couple of days. I'm noticing that the time on the file is wrong for all of them. For example, I take a screen shot at 11:30 a.m., and the file, saved on the desktop, shows that the screen shot was taken at 3:03 a.m. The computer time is accurate, however. Anyone have any idea why this might be and how I might correct it?

Anybody?

  • Where Awesome screen shot files are saved

I want to know where to find my screen shot file?

Nalin probably means the Safari extension Awesome Screenshot.
When you make a screenshot from a webpage, a page should appear with a message like this:
    Congrats! Here is your screenshot.
But perhaps the extension isn't working well anymore.

  • Change date/time format in Screen Shot file name?

I capture Screen Shots all day long.  But when I go to look for the one I just took, it's not always at the bottom of the list.  That's because Mac names them as e.g.
Screen Shot 2014-04-29 at 1.19.04 PM.png (and the order gets screwed up).
Can I change to make save as e.g.
Screen Shot 2014-04-29 at 13.19.04.png (this way they'll always stay in order).
    Thanks for any help.

You may have to change system time format globally. Is it worth ?

  • Screen Shot file format

Is there any way to change the default screen capture file format from .png to something like .jpg?

In addition to what Niel suggested, you could use a program called Deeper that offers you a GUI interface to change not just screenshots, but many other aspects of OS X. It's available from Apple Downloads as well as from places like versiontracker.com.

  • Screen Capture (Screen Shot) file default

The screen capture hidden shortcut using command, shift 4 keys creates an image in the png file format. Is there a way of changing that default to jpg format so I don't have to convert each time in Preview?

Someone will come along in a minute and offer you the unix code to do so, but if you prefer a program that can do it for you, download Deeper (search at macupdate.com or versiontracker.com). Deeper gives you control over file type and default save location for screenshots, as well as all kinds of other (safe) tweaks you can do to the Mac OS.

  • Write to Measurement File time column wrong starting value

I am using Write tp Measurement File express VI.  I select to write one time column.  The values writtent in the time column start from a value that does not seem to correspond to anything in the program -- sometimes as much as 2-3 days before the saving begins.
Can I force the starting value  of time to something, or get it to write the time since we started saving, or something predictable?

Include code whenever available.  Asking somebody to troubleshoot your software without any code is like asking your mechanic to fix your car without taking your car to him.
    Source
I don't recommend using the Write Express VI.  I recommend using the File I/O primatives because they allow for much more control over what gets written and how.  Still I would expect the Express VI to be able to write time properly so I'd assume there is some kind of bug with the data being given to the function.  Post some code so we can see what is going on.

  • Screen Shot is two files in Lion

I upgraded my iMac on the first day from SL to Lion. All worked fine except the normal keyboard  (command-shift-3) which produces two files on the desktop:  first is a cosmological picture, perhaps derived from screensaver,  second is the correct screen shot.  Both have the same file name but first has (2) added.
From terminal, "screenshot"is correct.  Use of "grab" is correct.  I have set System Preferences of "Keyboard" to default, deleted all preferences I can think of.      What can I try next?

    Charlie,
I have proved that the problem is caused by the erroneous VGA display.
In System Preferences for Display, I have mirrored the two displays and made them both nearly the same resolution: iMac 1920x1200 and VGA 1920x1440.  There is now only one screen shot file. Hurrah!
This configuration is usable but I would prefer to get rid of the VGA, which is consistently in the "System Information Report" and Preferences.
    Patrick Ellis,
I have done as you suggested and removed 4 files:
    com.apple.preference.displays2….plist     &   .plist.lockfile
    com.apple.windowserver….plist     &   .plist.lockfile
After reboot and use of System Preferences they have not returned. BUT neither has the VGA gone away.
I have looked throughout the system files but so far have found no reference to VGA and have no idea how to get rid of it.
    Any more ideas anyone?

  • Iphone 5 taking screen shots by only pressing on/off button

I know it's supposed to take screen shots if you hold down the home button and the on/off button together, but my phone is taking a screen shot every time I turn it off (i.e., without pressing the home button).  Anyone seen this issue?

Maybe the home button is stick.  Try
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the home button together until the apple logo appears (ignore the ON/OFF slider) then let both buttons go and wait for phone to restart (no data will be lost).

  • X11 for G5/PPC problems incl screen shots

Hello:  Most x11 on Leopard questions have been archived, so you can't add to them.
Please note I'm talking about x11 on G5 ppc hardware, so one is limited to OS10.5  and xquartz 2.6.1
(I don't think snow leopard 10.6 runs on G5 ppc, and I don't think xquartz 2.6.2, the current, will run under 10.5.)
There are problems on this x11/OS combo, running software on the remote linux machine and displaying locally on my mac running the xquartz.
Gimp running on the remote linux machine can no longer do screen shots (File> Acquire>screen shot for just a single window) after the OS and xquartz upgrade from 10.4.  Gimp acquires only  the upper 20% of the screen or so, repeated in a mosaic.
The error messages on the remote machine are lots of errors like this:
X Error: BadPixmap (invalid Pixmap parameter) 4
      Major opcode:  54
      Minor opcode:  0
      Resource id:  0x1600bbe
I have had sys admin look over the obvious stuff, the x connections all seem fine.
I have tried this connecting with both ssh -Y and ssh -X
    Any/All suggestions welcome, thank you.
    -BTP
    PowerPC G5 / OS10.5.8
    Xquartz 2.61

What happens when you run gimp on the G5 itself, rather than SSH-ing to another machine?
Also, when you do security updates, they have a tendency to clobber some of the updated X11 files, so you might benefit from reinstalling.

  • Can't find my screen shots that use to show up on the desktop

    Hello all.
Since installing the new update of 10.4.4 when I take a screen shot with either the apple+ shift+ 3 or +4 the camera shutter sounds but the file is not to be found ? any help ?
    thanks.
    -p

    Hey Guys,
I was having the same problem and even though none of you mention having used a utility like Tinker Tools or Onyx to modify the screenshot file type, that's exactly what was causing the problem for me.
I'd used Tinker Tools to change the screenshot to a .psd - resetting everything back to the default settings (in Tinker Tool) and then logging out and back in again repaired the problem... in so much as the screen shots work again (the are .pngs again) and appear on the desktop as they should.
If you've used TT or Onyx (or some other method) to change your screen shot file format you may want to enable invisible items in the finder and delete all the 'misfires' that have been created there - I found quite a few invisible (broken) screen shots on my desktop with names like: .Picture 1.psd-shytk and .Picture 1.psd-hdfl (all with random junk at the end of the file name).
    Hope this helps out.

  • How do I add time/date stamp to my screen capture file names?

    I'm on mac osx.
I'm trying to add time/date stamp to my screen capture file names. (at the moment it's just 'Picture 1' etc..)
I've tried the following command  in terminal but have not had success. please help!!
defaults write com.apple.screencapture name "datestamp" at "timestamp"

Surely someone else will provide a better solution. Meanwhile, however, you might want to try the following script. Copy and paste the script into the AppleScript Editor's window and save it as an application. Then drop your screen capture files on the droplet's Finder icon.
    on open theDroppedFiles
        tell application "Finder"
            repeat with thisFile in theDroppedFiles
set theFileName to name of thisFile
if (word 1 of theFileName is "Picture") and ¬
(word 2 of theFileName = word -2 of theFileName) then
set theExtension to name extension of thisFile
set P to offset of theExtension in theFileName
set theCreationDate to creation date of thisFile
set dateStamp to short date string of theCreationDate
set timeStamp to time string of theCreationDate
set name of thisFile to "Screen Shot " & dateStamp ¬
                        & " at " & timeStamp & "." & theExtension
                end if
            end repeat

  • Why does it say I do not have permission to save files in the location where screen shots are stored?

everytime i try to take a screen shot this appeares

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -Rh $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Step 1 should give you usable permissions in your home folder. This step will restore special attributes set by OS X on some user folders to protect them from unintended deletion or renaming. You can skip this step if you don't consider that protection to be necessary, and if everything is working as expected after step 1.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Avi files of Excel screen shots and activities on a PC with Camtasia

I'm creating avi files of Excel screen shots and activities on a PC with Camtasia, moving them to FCP5, and converting them to QuickTime movies. I've tried lots of settings at both ends of the process. The clips look great if played on QT pl;ayer or other players and not bad when played in the FCP viewer. They lose a lot of resolution when I move them to the timeline, render them, and view on the canvas. Any idea what settings I should use to get these clips looking really good? Thanks very much.
    Ernie Horan

Ok then. DVD is 720x480, essentially a DV image. But there is a lot you can do to maximixe the process. The idea being that you should maintain the best possible image all the way through the process until you absolutely HAVE to stomp on it. Little incremental quality changes at various stages will drive you crazy if you get a bad result at the end. You'll spend all your time trouble shooting which combinations caused the unacceptable condition. Better to only have one process to mess around with.
First off, what are your output options from camtasia? DO export in QT. Codecs, frame sizes? Frame rate?
Is there an 8 bit uncompressed video codec?
And keep in mind that a full computer screen is NOT 720x480, so that's your first issue right there.
You're going to have to supply us a lot of information for us to be of any real help. Might just start with a pan and pencil and doing short camtasia captures and try putting them in different sequence settings until you find the best combination.
This is not what you want to hear, but I think it's the reality. Sorry not to be more help, but I haven't done one of these in years.
