Screen Shot is two files in Lion

I upgraded my iMac on the first day from SL to Lion. All worked fine except the normal keyboard  (command-shift-3) which produces two files on the desktop:  first is a cosmological picture, perhaps derived from screensaver,  second is the correct screen shot.  Both have the same file name but first has (2) added.
From terminal, "screenshot"is correct.  Use of "grab" is correct.  I have set System Preferences of "Keyboard" to default, deleted all preferences I can think of.      What can I try next?

Charlie,
I have proved that the problem is caused by the erroneous VGA display.
In System Preferences for Display, I have mirrored the two displays and made them both nearly the same resolution: iMac 1920x1200 and VGA 1920x1440.  There is now only one screen shot file. Hurrah!
This configuration is usable but I would prefer to get rid of the VGA, which is consistently in the "System Information Report" and Preferences.
Patrick Ellis,
I have done as you suggested and removed 4 files:
com.apple.preference.displays2….plist     &   .plist.lockfile
com.apple.windowserver….plist     &   .plist.lockfile
After reboot and use of System Preferences they have not returned. BUT neither has the VGA gone away.
I have looked throughout the system files but so far have found no reference to VGA and have no idea how to get rid of it.
Any more ideas anyone?
Denis

  • Can I make .jpg my default screen shot format

How can I make my default screen shots a .jpg file (intsead of .png)?

Yes. Launch the Terminal app in /Utilities, copy & paste this one liner into the window that pops, hit the return key, and restart.
    defaults write com.apple.screencapture type jpg
Note that you can choose one of png, pdf, tiff, pict, jpg, jp2, bmp, gif, psd, sgi, or tga.

  • Saving screen image to a file? CP7

    Hi,
In CP7, is there a way to save a screen shot to a file? I have a client who's users may not know how to capture a screen shot on their computer. We'd like them to be able to click a button on the slide and have an image of that slide (say certificate) be saved to a file on their pc.  Is this possible? How?
    Thanks!
      Lori

This is not currently possible with standard Captivate functionality.  It might be possible with a widget, but I've not heard of one out there that does this.

First of all, are you using the OS native screen capture?
If not, make sure the application you're using has been update for Lion.  I was using Snapz Pro for years, but I need to update it for use with Lion. Meanwhile Grab and the keyboard shortcuts are working on my Lion load.
If you are using the native capture mode unsuccessfully, I would run the Disk Utility and repair permissions on the drive. For some reason, even in past OS Versions, routine maintenance of permissions makes life a lot easier.

  • When downloading a file from a website, I get the file but it is totally black and never fully opens up. I can see page numbers to advance See screen shot

Same as question. On two different URL sites, the download PDF comes up black. I would include the screen shot of the black pdf, but I do not see where I can add this to my question

Firefox's built-in PDF viewer is not yet as full-featured as Adobe's plugin. You might need to use Adobe for that one. Here's how to make the switch: [[How to disable the built-in PDF viewer and use another viewer]].
    Any luck, or same issue?

  • Use SkyDrive to upload collected files and post screen shot/picture. (Updated: 1/16/2012)

To help community members troubleshoot issues efficiently, sometimes we need to collect related files (such as Event logs, Network traces, Setup
log files, Screenshots, etc.) to perform a specific analysis.
We can simply use SkyDrive, which is a free storage on Windows Live, it’s easy to store and share your files and photos with almost anyone. To make the
steps clear, I would like to share the detailed steps for:
    1. How to use  SkyDrive to upload collected files?
    2. How to post screenshots or other pictures in forum threads?
    1.
    How to use
    SkyDrive to upload collected files?
    1)
    Open the
     SkyDrive site.
    2)
    In the
Sign In page, if you own a Windows Live ID, please type your Windows Live ID and Password to sign in; Otherwise, you may click Sign Up to register a new one. See the following screen shot.
    3)
After signing in Windows Live, click Create folder.
    4)     Name
the folder and edit permissions to share with relevant person.
    Important Note: You
can share the folder with Everyone if there is no private/sensitive information (such as the screen shot of a prompt error message). To so so, simply select the "Everyone (Public)" option in the "Share with" box. Please refer to the following screen shot:
However, for private information that you do NOT want to be accessed by everyone, it is recommended to share with specified individuals. To do so, you can expand the "Share with" box, choose the "Select people..." option, and then type their
Live IDs in the Individual box. Please refer to the screen shot below:
    5)
Drag the previously collected files directly to the Skydrive folder. For example:
    6)
    Click Upload.
    7)
Click on the uploaded files and tell us the URL.
    2.
How to post screenshots or other pictures in forum threads?
(This section updated on 1/16/2012 to reflect changes in Skydrive. Thanks to
Jeeped on the Microsoft Answers forums)
    1)   Please
use the above method to upload the picture files in advance. Then, in your Skydrive space, Right Click the picture and select
View Original. Press Ctrl + A, or Right Click and select Copy, to select it.
    2)
Press Ctrl + C to copy this picture.
    3)
Navigate to your post textbox, and press Ctrl + V, or Right Click and select Paste, to paste the picture there.
Then, the picture will be successfully inserted in that thread.

  • IDOC to FILE scenario With Screen shots

CAN YOU PLEASE SEND US THE DETAILS OF IDOC to FILE scenario With Screen shots  and do  the needful for me

    Hi Surya,
I thought i will just share a few basic thoughts that you need to take care while doing an IDOC to File Scenario. Just see if it helps you in anyways.
While doing an IDOC -> XI -> File scenario, The Points to noted are:
    1. You don’t need a DT, MT or a message interface for the IDOC as it itself acts as the Message Interface.
    2. You import the IDOC and use the same in your mapping.
    3. In this configuration note that you don’t have a sender agreement as you don’t have a sender IDOC adapter.
If it is that you wanted to send an IDOC from XI (File to IDOC) , then in this case:
points 1 and 2 will remain, but the 3 will not. You will need a sender agreement for the file and a receiver agreement for the IDOC.
    IDOC -> File scenario ref:
    <a href="/people/prateek.shah/blog/2005/06/08/introduction-to-idoc-xi-file-scenario-and-complete-walk-through-for-starters scenario</a>
    File -> IDOC ref:
    <a href="/people/anish.abraham2/blog/2005/12/22/file-to-multiple-idocs-xslt-mapping to IDOC</a>
To be able to trigger your IDOC from the SAP ISU system, you will have to set the partner profile in we20. Select your Business System (mostly under Logical system) and then create Outbound entries for whichever IDOC you want to trigger.
You define your basic type also in your partner profile settings, Please go thru the following links to get a better idea about partner profile:

Before I downloaded Lion every time I would upload a pic from iphoto there would be two files.  One that was 1.8MB and another that was 50KB.  Now I can only find the 1.8MB one.  Did this option disappear with Lion?  I really need this option!

Sorry but this is not clear.
    When you would "import" what?
two files would show up in "images".
Do you mean in the All Images search in the Finder?
    IF so:
1.Never interact with photos that are in iPhoto via the All Images Search. This does not understand the iPhoto Library and it's very, very easy to damage the library this way.
    2. What you were seeing was the original file you imported and the thumbnail created by iPhoto for viewing on the iPhoto Window. That thumbnail is not designed for user access.
What are you trying to do ultimately?

Screen saver won't start since Lion upgrade. Two different machines, same issue. Help

For anyone following this thread, I've found a solution to my problem. Turns out that a cute widget called FishTank appears to be the culprit. With it running in Dashboard (even when I don't see Dashboard) the Screensaver and Sleep functions don't work. I turned it off, not because I'm clever, just because I tired of it, and voilà, Screensaver and Sleep are now working. It can stay in my widgets list without any problem, it just can't be turned on. I'm going to delete it anyway, however.
Hope this points the way to solutions for some of the rest of you!
    Cheers!

  • Screen shots  - how do I change the default file type

Screen shots using command, shift, 4: I used to get pdf files from the screen shot command, now I get PNG files. How do I change the default file type from PNG to PDF? PNGs are a pain.

Also, there are utilities like OnyX that will change the screenshot settings.
But this AppleScript is my favorite.
    Screenshot Settings 1.1 <http://scriptbuilders.net/files/screenshotsettings1.1.html>
    About:
This application is a GUI method for changing the screenshot (screen capture) settings in Mac OS X v10.4 (Tiger).
Note that you can also drag-n-drop a folder onto this application to change the default location.

  • Why does it say I do not have permission to save files in the location where screen shots are stored?

everytime i try to take a screen shot this appeares

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -Rh $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Step 1 should give you usable permissions in your home folder. This step will restore special attributes set by OS X on some user folders to protect them from unintended deletion or renaming. You can skip this step if you don't consider that protection to be necessary, and if everything is working as expected after step 1.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Where Awesome screen shot files are saved

I want to know where to find my screen shot file?

Nalin probably means the Safari extension Awesome Screenshot.
When you make a screenshot from a webpage, a page should appear with a message like this:
    Congrats! Here is your screenshot.
But perhaps the extension isn't working well anymore.

  • Screen shot file time is wrong

I've taken a few screen shots in the past couple of days. I'm noticing that the time on the file is wrong for all of them. For example, I take a screen shot at 11:30 a.m., and the file, saved on the desktop, shows that the screen shot was taken at 3:03 a.m. The computer time is accurate, however. Anyone have any idea why this might be and how I might correct it?

    Anybody?

  • Loaded iPhoto 9.2, my 7200 photos grew to 113,000 files with screen shots, duplicates, ,5-10copies of faces and apple has no way to eliminate this. How can I ever retrieve the original 7200 from this mess?

This can happen if the HD icon is inadvertently dragged to the iPhoto Window.
Easiest solution: restore from your back up.
