Screen shot - poor quality in IE7, fine in Firefox and IE8

Hi all, I'm using TCS2, with Robhohelp 8.0.2.208.
I have linked an FM book file with a ton of PNGs (imported by reference into the FM files) into RH, and am generating Webhelp.
When I look at the final Webhelp project, there seems to be a huge discrepancy in the quality of the images.
Firefox: excellent at 1024 * 768 resolution, or higher
IE8 : same result as Firefox
IE7: terrible quality (fuzzy, patchy, etc.) on any resolution, including 1024 * 768 or higher
Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know what could be causing these issues? Many of our end users use IE7 to view the help...
Thanks,
Adriana

Hi
Have you tried using Gifs instead of PNGs?
We tend to screen capture at high res then save as gif.
Pictures are then imported actual size.

My iphone screen has turned black, phone is still on as screen shots can be taken. When home button and power button are held - no apple icon will appear. Please help??

If this iPhone has had the screen replaced previously, possibly LCD Display connector has simply come loose from the Logic Board. Possibly the LCD Display is faulty and the front screen assembly needs to be replaced. If you have Warranty or AppleCare make Genius reservation or set up service and take or send to Apple. This is handled by Apple with Replacement iPhone 4S.

I have a php module which runs fine in Firefox and all other browsers but not Safari. It always run twice - I see a small ? in upper right corner which is causing it to run twice but NO idea why? I read it MAY have something to do with am image it cannot load but I see them all loaded.  Help - thank you

Could you share a link to the page?
Seeing it in context and in our browsers is much easier to debug.
If not, make sure to run the validator here The W3C Markup Validation Service and clear out any problems. HTML errors, especially structural ones, will cause all kinds of display problems in various browsers/versions/platforms.

  • Layers don't appear properly inside table in Internet Explorer, but are fine in Firefox and Safari

How can I get layers that are inside tables that are
inside another layer to appear properly in Internet Explorer. It
works fine in Firefox and Safari on Mac and PC? The layers that are
causing the problems contain a table with an image and a caption,
so 2 cells. Then the layers are within a larger table that is
within a layer. I don't use IE (cause it is the bain of my
existence) but for a client they may want it to look good on all
browsers, even if it is IE 6 on a PC, maybe the browser version is
too old and I shouldn't worry about it? I know IE is not compliant
with web standards so is this the problem or is there a way to fix
the problem so it will look good in all the browers? The URL is
    http://uweb.txstate.edu/~ts20/scevents/spec-coll-events.html
so if anyone could look at it IE and firefox and see how I could
fix it, this would be very appreciated!
Much needed help. Thanks for any input.

    >>I knwow IE is not compliant with web standards
That is too broadly stated to be credible. Certainly IE6 has
    its problems
but is highly compliant with most web standards. To be an
    effective
designer/developer one must have a working knowledge of IE's
    deficiencies,
not just write it off as non-compliant. After all, it is
    still used by some
70% or web users (based on W3C Schools data.)

  • CSS layout problems in Explorer (fine in Firefox and Safari)

Firstly apologies to the mods, I had mistakenly posted this
    in the dynamic section also...
My problem - I am working on a CSS site (my first!) here
    http://www.benfrain.com
It appears fine in Firefox (PC and Mac) and Safari (mac) but
when I view it in Explorer for Mac (5.2.3) I get a over long page
and I get no auto margin on the left.
Another small curiosity - I have noticed that my background
image on my div id "header" seems to start off again on the right.
Again, Explorer 5.2 for mac only...
My html and css both validate.
Anybody know why this is happening?

Have you tried increasing the text size?
Do you mean in the browser? I just tried it in Firefox and
after two increases the layout/style of the page kind of 'falls
apart' - how would this be rectified?

  • Spry dataset not loading in IE8, working fine in Firefox and Google Chrome

    Hi,
I made this page http://www.clermont-herault-concerts.fr/Ulrike_Van_Cotthem_repertoire.asp and it renders fine in Firefox 3.6.7 and Google Chrome, yet not in IE8, all on an XP-platform. The page validates for W3C XHTML and CSS.
The problem is that instead of loading and rendering the data, the IE8 toolbar just shows something like "waiting for 2 more data". The same happens with the php-version of the same page.
An identical problem happens with this page http://www.clermont-herault-concerts.fr/Ulrike_Van_Cotthem_media.asp.
When debugging, IE8 reports two bugs:
    1. the "Object doesn't support this property or method" in character 3 of line 31 of ImageMenu.js, returning Code:0 and then
    2. the "Object doesn't support this property or method" in character 1 of line 1 of http://www.clermont-herault-concerts.fr/Ulrike_Van_Cotthem_repertoire.asp, returning Code:0
Strangely enough, I used the same technique in this page http://www.clermont-herault-concerts.fr/Ulrike_Van_Cotthem_concerts.asp, and here all goes fine.
Any idea what might go wrong and how to solve this problem ?
Thx in advance for your help.
    Erik

I also can't get rok my page in IE
All work on the other browsers.
If i change the extension name of the page in ".xml" it works in IE.
But cose the page where i get the data is a dynamic page i can't name it xml. i need ".aspx" extension.
Can anyone from ADOBE please help us?

  • Full screen gradient - poor quality?

    Hello Forum
I'm using actionscript 2 to create a full screen gradient
across the screen as a background. (see code below).
It looks ok, but if I look closer the quality is not that
great. It doesn't seem to have enough colors to create a smooth
transitions from color A to B... Is there a way to improve the
quality? I'd like to avoid having to import a huge jpg or gif as a
background... there's enough to load already.
    Any insight appreciated.
    Thanks
    Stephank

Likely it's a combination of the colors you've chosen for the
    gradient, and
the area you are filling. There's only so many colors that
    can fit in the
given space. For example, an area the full screen width might
    still only be
1280 pixels wide - so the max colors you can put in there is
    1280... If you
fill with light blue to dark blue, it might look spot on. But
    if you go from
light blue to deep red, it won't be as smooth. It can't be.

  • Poor quality display on some iPhone 5 ( and 5c/5s?) units

I'm on a family plan and as such I have multiple iPhone 5 phones.  I noticed that starting with the iPhone 5, many of the displays were visibly different than others.  For a long time, I thought the only issue was the vertical lines (interlacing) that many have reported ad-nauseum on these forums.  Yes it's a problem, but it would turn out it's not the only problem with these displays.  The other problem (and this turns out to be an even larger one) is that they are not even coming close to supporting the color gamut of the "good display" (i.e. the one that does not contain the interlacing lines).
I've seen reports of the interlacing occurring on 5s units as well, and so I can only assume they also share the trait of having the horribly inadequate color reproduction.
Below, please see the image of two iPhone 5 units.  The black unit has the good screen, insofar as it does not have the vertical interlacing lines visible and you'll notice the color wheel is displayed correctly.  The white unit has the visibly inferior display and lo and behold, it also can't even properly display the color wheel.  Notice the abrupt shift in colors and banding present in the image.
Zooming in on the color wheel makes the inferiority of the display on the white iPhone more apparent.  I have read so many reviews about how great the iPhone 5 display is.  But it's not fair that they only review the good screen.  Then when we as customers get the bad screen we are left out in the cold, with reviews telling everybody how great the iPhone display is but with the reality being quite mediocre.
I hope Apple stops allowing such a wide variance in display performance across their approved LCD manufacturers.  I didn't run this test just for the fun of it.  I ran the test because I was noticing how lackluster the screen on my white iPhone 5 was and wanted to verify it to make sure I wasn't going crazy.
Hey Apple -- it's not a "minor thing".  Your cutting of corners does get noticed and it will influence your sales going forward as your competition improves.

My first 5s had a PERFECT Screen. Perfect color accuracy and no interlaced lines shown in the image. I got that phone replaced however because the camera module was rattling much more than it should and in fact felt loose in the phone casing to the point where a vibrating notification would set off a rattlesnake like rattle.
During the replacement process it's impossible to detect whether or not the display on the replacement units have the interlacing issue because the iOS 7 setup screens are completely white. After activating the device the Apple Genius has to process the replacement as a "Point of Sale" and your warranty is then transferred to that device. By that time it was too late for me to go back to my perfect display despite the rattle since that device was no longer "mine". I sat there at the genius bar for a good 40 minutes trying to show the genius exactly what the issue was with the new phone, and she just couldn't see it. Eventually I was able to get a flickering image up, which convinced the manager to let me go through another replacement. Alas this replacement also has the issue. In fact while looking at the display models in the store, about 3/4 devices had the issue, even the iPhone 5c.
I am going back to another apple store in my area next week to see if I can actually get a genius to see the issue and provide a replacement that doesn't have this issue.
I do believe however, when I was comparing my old perfect screen to the new flawed one, the perfect screen had really good calibration for the whites. The replacement had a distinctly warm feeling. If you're going in for replacement for this issue, open up a pure while image and compare it to the activation screen of the replacement. If the replacement has a noticeably cooler display but is not blue tinged then that panel probably does not have the interlacing issue that so many of us are experiencing.

  • Is there any way to crop part of  a screen shot and paste into Pages?

Instead of importing an entire photo into Pages, I am trying to:
-take a screen shot of iPad documentation
    - open in photo roll and crop a section out of it
    - paste into Pages
Is there an App that might crop and paste into Pages?
    Thanks for any help.
    Prea

You can do that with PhotoPad. You take a screen shot, crop it in PhotoPad and it is saved to Saved Phototos. Then you just go the Media section and import the croped photo.

  • Iphone 5 taking screen shots by only pressing on/off button

I know it's supposed to take screen shots if you hold down the home button and the on/off button together, but my phone is taking a screen shot every time I turn it off (i.e., without pressing the home button).  Anyone seen this issue?

Maybe the home button is stick.  Try
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the home button together until the apple logo appears (ignore the ON/OFF slider) then let both buttons go and wait for phone to restart (no data will be lost).

  • ITunes 10.1.1 plays Mono in poor quality

Like others already posted I want to open thread about that. Using Echo Audiofire 2 working great on my old mac with older iTunes, now on new Mac Mini only mono sound, and poor quality. All things are checked, and I would just like to know if there´s anything new about that? I need real stereo sound all tht time and can´t work with my mac when acting like this. That´s really poor thing about apple and iTunes, specially as that problem´s know now for a while.
    Cheers, Kobold11!

Nothing changed AFAIK. Workaround and Applescript can be found in this thread:

  • Lightroom 16:9 and 16:10 Screen Shots

I'm a current Lightroom user and I'm upgrading from an older 19" monitor to a new 23" or 24" IPS monitor for photo editing.  Are there screen shots of Lightroom on a 16:9 display and a 16:10 display available I can view to get an idea of how the basic Library Model appears on both of these monitor configurations, i.e., how the panels are stretched or compressed horizontally and vertically in each configuration?

The message is An abnormal condition has occurred and Encore needs to shut down, you have once chance to save your project.
If I import the 4:3 time line no problem until I try to bring in the 16:9 timeline, and vise versa. And I just realized I am using an older version of encore on the PC. The MAC has CS3. The version is two prior. Hummm wonder if that was the issue.

  • Anti-Screen Shot?

While talking to a sales rep the other day about Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro, he told me there is a way to edit a PDF, so when someone who is viewing it takes a screen shot of the PDF and pastes it into MS Paint, the picture shows the encrypted text, preventing for the user from taking a screen shot of the PDF.
Does anyone know how to write a JavaScript to do this? Thanks for any help!
    ~Bryan~

Bernd is correct. This cannot be done with Acrobat JavaScript.
Just as with your "expired document" code, you are overestimating what JavaScript can do. JavaScript in Acrobat is security restricted and has absolutely no access to system events such as pressing the "Print Screen" key for a screen shot (since that is an OS-level function and not an application-level function).
Also, just as with your "expired document" script, if the user disabled JavaScript in Acrobat (you can turn off JavaScript processing in the preferences) then your script would be useless and the user could take a screen shot.
I suggest you contact Acrobat Developer Support and ask them if you don't want to trust seasoned veterans like Bernd. Their job is specific to Acrobat JavaScript - next to the Acrobat developers, they are the experts, and they will tell you exactly what Bernd told you. They also have direct access to ask the developers if you need absolute confirmation.

  • I copied a screen shot how do i paste a copy of that screen shot in an email

i took a screen shot and need to know how to paste it in an email

It depends on how you took the screen shot.
If you used the Command-Control-Shift-3 shortcut, the screen shot is on your Clipboard and can be pasted into the message.
If you used the Command-Shift-3 shortcut, the screen shot is a picture file on your Desktop and can be dragged into the message.
