Screen Shot Problem (No Longer Working)

For some reason, I suddenly cannot take a screen shot! I'm using Snow Leopard on a MacBook Pro, and I keep trying to take a screen capture shot of a website for a friend, but when I hit optionshift3 in both Firefox and Safari, nothing happens! I even restarted and the problem is persisting. Is there some way to fix this? I just can't figure out what I could have done to make this function not work any longer.

Command + Shift + 3 for entire screen
Command + Shift + 4 for selected area
Go to Finder > Help menu. Type in "shortcuts for taking picture of screen" for more information.

I was successful using the command/control/shift/4 key stroke process to evoke a cursor to frame a phto from my iMac screen - and then it stopped working! What do I need to do to get it to work again?

  • 10.8.4 Screen Brightness Keys No Longer Work

I ran updates this morning and I assume it updated to 10.8.4 from the app store updates tab.
After this update and booting back up the screen brightness keys no longer work. F1 and F2 keys do nothing and they worked fine before the update.
Anyone else experiencing this? If so know a way to fix it?
    Thanks
    Patrick

I have been having the same issue and even with updates have continued to have the problem. I was able to find a chck box under the keyboard settings that I never noticed before. When checked it only allows you to use the function keys on the top of the keyboard when pressing the fn (function) key. Simply unchecking this (not sure how it got checked in the first place) solved the issue immediately.

I have been using an app cheat with friends with my iPad for a long time. One day it just stopped reading the screen shot.  I have tried deleting a few times and starting over. It works on my iPhone perfectly fine. Please help !!!!!!!  Thank you

    @Colin Robinson
Thanks, I did it hundreds of time!!!
    Anyway here's what I did:
I'd wrote an email to Apple America, even if I'd purchased the item in Europe and the US support usually should not be involved in any European case.
They wrote me back that a European office will have call me in 48 hours.
After a couple of days I've received a call and a new iPod is coming from US...
Don't ask me if I can find any kind of logic behind it, but at least I can state that the US support has been decisive.
    Thanks to everybody.

  • Screen shot short cut not working

I'm using Mountain Lion 10.8.4 and have lost the screen shot keyboard shortcut (Command-Shift-4).   I use this quite a bit so this is a big inconvenience.   Note that the other screen capture shortcuts aren't working as well.   I have tried to delete my Finder prefrence file in the Library and re-start, but the problem persists.   Keyboard shortcuts are enabled in System Preferences, so what gives.   Anyone else seen this problem, any fixes?
    Thanks,

The keyboard shortcuts for screen shots works fine with my 10.8.4 (build 12E55). You may need to install again using the Install OS X Mountain Lion.  Until you get it fixed try this as a workaround

  • Screen-shots aren't properly working...

When I attempt to screen shot my laptop a message pops up telling me that I don't have permission to save files to that folder. How can I change this I have searched system preferences high and low and cannot find an answer?? Also the layout of my system preferences has gone from organized looking with shelf-like layout to cluttered and somewhat of a list format. How did I do this and how can I change it back to the way it was before?

If you're having trouble making changes to files that are inside your home folder (represented by a house icon in the sidebar of a Finder window), or if you can't get changes to the settings of an application to stick, then please see below.
    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR..; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_; chmod -R -N ~ $_; } 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take a few minutes to run, or perhaps longer if you have literally millions of files in your home folder. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if it frightens you, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password dialog will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
In the dialog, select the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if it's not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if it's not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Screen shot problem

I am running OS ver 10.5.8 on a 2.4 GHz Intel iMac with 2 GB of memory. I have occasionally used the command to take a screen shot of a specific area (ShiftControl+Command4) to generate images of specific things on my computer.
I did that earlier today and the image was saved to my desktop. I have been trying to do the same thing now and after hitting those keys and dragging the mouse to the area of the screen I want to capture, I hear the sound of the shuttle clicking like the computer is making the screenshot, but no image file appears on my desk top. I search my computer, and there's no image file created today other than the one I did earlier. I have tried this several times, and also tried doing a full screenshot. Again, I hear the sound of the shutter like the computer is making the image, but no image is being generated and saved.
I restarted my computer, and still am having the issue.
    Any suggestions?

Thanks. I don't know how many years I've been doing it properly. Why I suddenly tried to add control, I'm not sure.

I have the exact same problem as this person
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=99742
I followed the one fix that was posted.
I added radeon.new_pll=0 to my kernel boot line in grub.cfg and added
    options radeon new_pll=0
    in /etc/modprobe.d/radeon.conf
However when I boot I get an error which says radeon: Unknown parameter 'new_pll=0' and then X wont start, any idea why this might be happening? i've been trying to solve this problem for quite some time.

I also got this to work in debian/ubuntu based distros installing "fglrx-driver" which makes 0 sense because fglrx doesn't support R600 cards.

    Hi Girshon Rutstein-
Have you tried un-mounting the drives before shutting down?

Unless you've done a bit of hacking the files will be in png format, not pdf, and most likely won't even sport an extension (it is hidden by default). The name will be Picture, with a number, "Picture 1" for example. I haven't done the latest Security update though....

  • Screen sharing option no longer works after updating to iOS Maverik. I am using AIM and so is the other person who i am trying to share my screen with. .

I am using AIM and so is the other person who i am trying to share my screen with. I log into AIM with an @aol.com account. I can request to share my screen and share the other person's screen. The window will pop up on the other computer, but after clicking accept it will go back to saying that there is a request for screen share. What should I do to fix this?

    HI,
To be clear, iOS = iPhone and iPad and some iPod Touches and the Operating System they use.
Mac OS X = the Operating System Mac computers use.
Regarding the AOL account, is this actually from AOL and have the Chat/Messaging option enabled ?
Or is it a Name registered with the AIM part of AIM ?
You can have AOL as your ISP  and have an email and User ID from them.
This needs to have the ability to use the name as a Chat name enabled (or at least it used to)
AIM, which actually stands for AOL Instant Messaging has it's own registration site.
Nowadays  you register for a AIM email (although activating it for mail is another additional step).
It used to be that the bit before the @aim.com bit was the user name you used in Chat applications that could use AIM.
Previous to the current system you could in fact register just a Screen Name with them.
Apple (and a few US based ISPs) also have agreements with AIM that their (Apple, etc.)  emails are recognised as Valid AIM Screen Names.
This means those issued by  Apple ending in @mac.com, @me.com issued from the iCloud registration and @icloud.com.
(You do have to keep your password to 16 characters or less.)
From what you are saying you seem to be sure that you can see each other as On Line in your respective AIM Buddy lists ?
In Messages in both Mountain Lion and Mavericks you do not have to display the Buddy lists
(See the Window Menu plus the General Section of the Preferences to separate them)
Are you also saying that in the Video menu the option to allow Screen Shares is Enabled ?
Is it done at both ends ?
In iChat you could offer to Share your Screen with a Buddy without the option being On  (they could not ask to share yours or offer theirs).  I have not tested this in Messages.

  • Help! Screen Shot Problem

My iMacG5 sometimes makes this loud "POP!" sound (instead of shutter sound)when taken screenshot by commandshift3. The computer itself shakes a little too when making that sound. Sound seems to be coming from inside iMac since the sound is muted.

  • 2nd Gen iPod Touch intermittent shut off and/or screen shots, blinking +

Hi - concerned, not very technical mom here, trying to help out my son. His iPod touch shuts off, goes to the front screen, takes screen shots, sometimes the touch works and sometimes it doesn't, it blinks, I am not sure what to do. Any and all very specific (remember not real techy mom here) suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you so much in advance.

I've had this same problem. It ended up being a problem in the hardware. Your going to need to take it to a Apple Genius Bar. They will help you understand the problem better.

  • Change date/time format in Screen Shot file name?

I capture Screen Shots all day long.  But when I go to look for the one I just took, it's not always at the bottom of the list.  That's because Mac names them as e.g.
Screen Shot 2014-04-29 at 1.19.04 PM.png (and the order gets screwed up).
Can I change to make save as e.g.
Screen Shot 2014-04-29 at 13.19.04.png (this way they'll always stay in order).
    Thanks for any help.

You may have to change system time format globally. Is it worth ?

Command-Shift-3 and 4 works just fine on several Macs that I have here.
Try restarting your Mac....or post in the specific support area for your Mac model....for more advice.
