Screen shows 2 white and 1 black column
As I turn on a friends MacBook pro, I get 3 columns, 2 white and 1 black, and little squares in each column the opposite colour. That's all I get, the boot up sound and that screen.
Does anyone know how to rectify this? I'm not sure what version of is he has. Could I back up his hard drives data?
If you can connect the MBP to a monitor and it works, then it is the GPU that is faulty. If there is no change, then probably the display or the display connection is faulty.
You could probably get the data off by using Target Disk mode if you have access to another Mac:

Why is my screen going white and then black?
Since Wednesday [two days ago] my phone has been acting like a dying television. The screen will go white and then black and then it won't respond. When I am able to get the screen to come back the picture freezes, jumbles, and will not respond to my touch. I have the 32GB 5C with the most recent updates installed. The top two corners of the screen are also raised in comparison to the bottom corners. I've heard from a friend that my battery could be swelling and was wondering if maybe this was also part of the problem.
I spoke to an apple care specialist who told me to restart, reset, and reboot the phone, but each step only made things worse. I have not damaged the phone, I've had a case on it at all times and it has not been exposed to any water.
Any help would be very much appreciated. I will not be able to take it in for service until Sunday [two days from now]Could be a graphics chip issue. If the machine is newer than October 2011, boot with the 'D' key on its own. Otherwise find the original installer discs, or use this tip to find the age of the machine to make sure you can get the right hardware test with the 'D' key boot. When using my ipad air it keeps coming off the page I'm on or app I am using and going back to the home screen. Also when using my ipad the screen will go white with a black apple icon in the middle for about 20 seconds then it makes a ping sound and goes to the home screen. Could anyone help please. There is nothing wrong with your Dell, it will work fine with any MacbookPro. I have been using Dell displays for over 12 years with many different Mac models. I have two 21" Ultra Sharp displays working side by side to design a Keynote presentation right now.
The issue your having is with the way Keynote takes control of the video output to both displays, it sends the presentation signal to one and the presenter display to the other, this is set up in;
Keynote preferences > Presenter display.
If you want to show a wesite or another app on either display, use application switcher:
press the the command key on the keyboard, then the tab key; a row of applications will show what applications are running, choose which one you want to show. Use command > tab to return to Keynote. -

Cannot recall the full line-up of Effects in Pr 6.5, but you should have the fixed Effect>Motion>Scale, which will allow you to resize the Clip. You might need to use Motion>Position in addition. Basically, you will doing a PiP (Picture in Picture), with no Clip below, just the black showing.

First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely. Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again. -
I have an Ipod nano and the screen is just white and says ok to disconnect with a black tick on. Can anyone suggest what I can do?

Bad Screen Laptop Screen - showing blue lines instead of black
I have an old laptop HP Pavilion DV7-1448dx, the screen shows blue lines instead of black. I tried using TV as a monitor and it doesnt have any problem, it only shows on the laptop. I replaced the LCD screen with a brand new screen but it still shows the same problem. I attached the pictures of what my screen looks like. It only shows this on the black color and the others are ok. Pls help!

Hello and welcome to the HP support forum. Thank you for posting about your display issue.
It sounds as if the RGB output of the graphics card has become a bit off in your case. You have replaced the screen so the output that supplies the LCD from the graphics card is the issue.
As you stated on a VGA output to a TV it looks normal. Therefor it isnt the card totally having the problem.

Here is a link to your systems Maintenance and Service guide as well. One thing you may want to check is the actual cable that connects the screen to the motherboard. This is the easiest and cheapest part to work with.
If you replace the connection cable from the motherboard to the monitor this may fix the issue.

I've had an iPod Touch 4th generation for a few years now, and, today, for the first time, the screen has gone white and their are vertical lines on it. What happened was I accidentally dropped my iPod Touch on tile and it landed on its back. I tried it out right afterwards to see if it was still working and it seemed like it was perfectly fine. Later on, I got an email from one of my friends, so I slid the email button on the lock screen to see the email. In the email, there was a link to a gif image, so I opened it in Safari. After I was done with it, I closed that tab. I also had a second tab open from earlier, so I wanted to close that tab as well. When I clicked on the button to see all tabs and close one, the screen completely froze. I held on to the on/off button on the top of the iPod, and, after about a minute, the screen switched to a completely white screen with lines on it. I've tried holding onto the on/off button again and it doesn't work. I also tried plugging it into my Windows 7 computer and opening iTunes, but my computer doesn't even recognized it is plugged in. It won't appear under the "computer" section in Windows Explorer, which will allow me to do USB-related tasks with it. iTunes doesn't recognize that it is plugged in either, so I can't do anything like restore the iPod to factory settings. The home button on my iPod hasn't been working for a while so i've always been using the accessibility feature that gives me a home button on the screen. Now that I can't access that, I can't hold down both the on/off button and the home button at the same time. What should I do? Should I send it in to Apple for repairs (which I won't do and would rather buy a new iPod Touch)? I am thinking of just leaving it to, hopefully, have the battery drain and the iPod would die. Then, I could charge it and see what happens. Other than that, i'm just clueless right now and I have no idea what I should do. Please help me!

I disconnected my iPad unconsciously while it was updating ios 7.0.4 and it just stuck on that screen showing apple logo and a loading bar that just won't move on what to do now ????
It's not uncommon for it to not work the first time and sometimes, you have to try it a few times. Turn off your antivirus software and your firewall while you are trying to restore the iPad. Enable them again after you restore.
If that still won't work, post back with detailed information as to what exactly does happen as you go through the process. -
