Screen Shows Flickering Specs...
Hey all,
This is a problem that I can't find much info on, but one topic in this forum from 2006 (same subject heading) http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=9358456&messageID=2087010.
Anyway, the problem, it that my powerbook display was showing blinking and shimmering black specs all over, usually on shaded whites and greys: Shadows looked the worst.
So after not finding any solutions online, I opened up the bottom of the 'book, blew out the insides with compressed air, disconnected and reconnected all the connections to the logic board that I could find, and put it all back together. Started my baby up and all was right again. *Knock Knock Knock*
So I just wanted to share incase anyone else come across this problem.

I might try this. I have been experiancing problems if the top right hand corner of the base is handled while the machine is opened. I get coloured haze going horizontally across the screen. It clears if you set it down on a level surface.

Macbook pro screen freezing/flickering peripheral failure
Hey guys
I use my Macbook Pro both at home for music production and live as an instrument. Recently I have been having problems, but for some reason these have never materialised at home - only in the live situation. I shall try to give as much info as possible, but I'm no use with Macs having been raised with windows machines.
Mac OS X 10.6.8
2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
I have around 13GB free HD space
It is second hand and therefore I have no idea about warranty. I have had the machine for over a year.
I THINK it's a 2008 17" model, although I am not sure.
Peripherals at home:
Digidesign Mbox 2 - USB
USB Mouse (third party)
M audio Oxygen 8 V2 keyboard - USB
HD TV as a second screen - DVI - VGA adapter
Live:
Novation Nio 2|4 uadio interface - USB
Novation Launchpad - USB
M audio Oxygen 8 V2 - USB
(Software wise I a running ableton 8 suite with izotope stutter edit. I average about 6% cpu usage)
Recently, my audio interfaces have begun to fail, but only in the live environment. I can switch the Mbox for the Nio at home and there are no problems whatsoever. 2 shows in a row this had failed, so I made sure to test all the equipment extensively. After 2 days of using the Nio as my soundcard using a different USB cable and slot, I assumed the problem was fixed.
On friday night we were playing a show, and mid set the screen froze with glitchy sections - looked like someone had broken the matrix. The screen began flickering in and out very fast in a strobe like fashion. My peripherals were still working fine, so I continued with the show in the hope that I could just control the session from them. Moments later, the audio failed, ad the system eventually cut out. I attempted to buy time and boot up again, but the same thing happened almost instantly.
Now that i've had a chance to get home and try it out, it has been working for hours at a time until eventually doing the same thing. I have found that most the time my usb mouse will remain responsive, yet I am unable to click on anything. Again, the sound generally keeps working, but one by one the peripherals fail. The screen flickering has only been temporary in the home setting, and does not sustain throughout the failure.
I'm generally poor with electronics, but the general consensus seems to be that it may be some kind of electro magnetism/static/I don't know effecting it live? I have never had a single problem with the machine until now. These failures have occured both running on battery and from mains power.You may be right that a part of the problem is due to external electro-magnetic interference, but could also be heat build up, and the fact that at home it runs for hours before an issue starts, heat is probably a part of the problem. If you can, stop by an Apple store genius bar and let the techs run some diagnostics, explain what is happening and see if they can isolate the issue. You may want to leave it with them for a few hours and let it sit there and run to see if heat is an issue.

inbuilt isight camera is detected in system profiler but no image is being detected only a black screen shows up. I have tried all of the troubleshooting instructions and it still wont work. The iMac im using is OS X 10.6 and was an ex-floor model

I would try a Safe Boot first. (This will take longer than a normal Boot and you will need to Restart afterwards).
If it were an older OS I would also suggest going to System Preferences > Displays and making sure the display is set to Millions. (My MacBook Pro does not have this option in Snow Leopard so I did presume Snow Leopard does not have it).
With some laptops there have been some issues with the cable up the back of the screen pulling loose with regular and frequent use of the lid, but this will not apply to you based on your specs. (it does take time to appear and is also somewhat rare). However it seems enough contact with the camera can make it appear in System Profiler and power it on but not give a pic.
If a Safe Boot does not work I would also try a PRAM reset.
Shut down the computer.
Restart it holding down Apple/CMD (or ⌘)+ALT( ⌥)+P+R Keys until you have heard three Start Up Bongs.
This is actually "less" destructive in that it clears less memory items than Safe Boot but they are different enough to warrant trying.
Do you have an older version of iGlasses installed ?
The one for Leopard does not work for Snow Leopard.
Do you have Web Browser open ?
This may point to Google Video Chat Plug-in and Flash Conflict. It would be rare to allow another app to access the camera even if not displayiong a Pic.
(Chrome Installs the Plug-in as does the standalone download).
Knowing what "any application" exactly you are trying might help us pin it down.
Any additional downloaded apps that can use the camera ?
Do you happen to have something balck in front of the camera ?

PE9 loading achdv files no problem, but playing them in preview screen shows lot of distortion

We bought pe9 to be able to edit hd files. Loading them and editing them works perfectly, But when you play them back in preview screen or full screen the movie is blurred and shows a lot of distortion. This happens to every file we load in PE9, avi, mts, mov etc. When the movie is stopped, the preview screen shows a sharp image, but when playing it starts blurring and becoming unsharp. Rendering does not help. Removing flickering helps a bit, but not enough.
We tried the solution for the interlacing but it does not help. This way we can't go on!
When burning them to dvd, same problem still exists.
Any suggestions?
When playing the same files in for example Nero, a sharp view is no problem.... how come PE9 distorts the image?

MandyMost likely your Project Preset and footage may not be matched.
Right-click your monitor panel and check that magnification is set to 100% and not 'Fit'. We have set it less than 100%
Where have these clips come from and what format are they? Format .mts files, but also avi, does have the same problem
What Project Preset are you using? We selected one, than the program said it did'nt fit and asked if it could adjust it. So we did.
When you import the footage is there a red line above the timeline? no there is nothing to render, no red line.....
PRE is an editor, a very different beast from the Nero player. Yeah, we understand, but PE9 should be able to play these files and export them properly, why else buy it? -

I have a P4 2.6 and GeForce 5 fx5200 128MB card. I noticed that when I drag things on my screen, the items on screen are flickering, and I suspect it is because the VGA card performance. It happens especially when I drag the seperator line in the windows explorer, that seperate between the folders and the files. I uninstalled the driver and installed the latest version. It helped a lot, but it is still far away from other VGA cards performance.
I benchmarked the card and with fresh diagnose, with compare to SIS 630, S3 16MB, and TNT2 32. In some tests, my card gave bad result like "random pixels" where my card got only 233 and the others 500.
I don't use overclocking.
Are there more tests I can use to check this?
Is there any MSI or nVidia tool?
ThanksI tried SISandra, but it has a lot of benchmarks, not VGA benchmark. I tried some benchmark software, all showed that my card has poor performance.
Maybe "flickering" wasn't the right word. I mean that when I drag something on my desktop, the background items are being repainted very slowly. Is this a graphic card problem?
My driver is the latest one, and the screen refresh rate is on 85.

I downloaded the latest update for my ipad and now it won't open. the screen shows the itunes icon and a pic of the usb cable
That message means that you have to restore the iOS software because something went wrong. Follow the instructions here. I hope that you have a backup.

I performed an iOS 7 software update on my iPhone yesterday, and now the phone is not working at all. The iPhone screen shows to connect to iTunes to restore. I've have done this, and still the iPhone is not working. What going on?
I have no idea what may have caused your MacBook to stop working, but from your description it kind of sounds like it may have started before you ran Software Update and installed the new Apps. Just the general slow feeling and bugginess is what tips me off. You said that you weren't sure if you had closed all open windows, that doesn't matter if the computer restarts itself. It automatically closes all other open applications when restarting.
As to your data being retrievable, if when you take it in they do a fresh install of the OS, then no, it will not be unless you want to pay several thousand dollars to a software retrieval company.
I am glad to hear that you have taken into the Apple Store to get it fixed, and that you have all of your purchased music backed up to your iPod. You should be able to just transfer it all back to iTunes once you get your computer back should it be necessary.
As a side note, the proper place for this topic would probably in the MacBook forums, not iTunes since there is no evidence that iTunes started the issue. -
My ipad is locked up with the screen showing a picture of the usb port with an arrow to itunes.
Then connect your iPad to your computer and use iTunes to restore.

Since itunes 2.0.4 has been downloaded my ipod doesn't synchronize properly/ at all. The LED screen shows çopying 1 or 2 from 101' and itt will remain like that.
It looks like sync but nothing is happening. The sync doesn't stop by itself. Is there anybody to solve this problem? In previous versions never a problem.I have exactly the same issues with my new 80G iPOD. I have found that when connecting to my PC, the iPOD does not start iTUNES 7. This can be resolved by stopping the iPOD Service in Computer Management, connecting the iPOD and then starting it again. Seems like a stupid long-winded way to do things, but at least you can get some stuff on to your iPOD.
As far as using Restore goes - I just get the restoring iPOD message you described, which it blatantly isn't :((

My battery drained. Pluged in to wall but screen shows battery with red line but doesn't seem to be recharding after 20 min. Should I wait longer or do a hard restart? I haven't backedup in ages and don't want to lose pics, contacts etc. Will a hard restart wipe all that out?

-Your device needs both the CR and LF. To accomplish this:
option 1: Concatenate the "end of line" string constant (this is a combination of CR and LF, located in the string pallete) to all your outgoing commands. Make sure in the "Visa configure serial port" the "Termination character enable" flag is false.
option 2: Concatenate only a CR to your command's strings. Make sure in the "Visa configure serial port" the "Termination character enable" flag is TRUE AND that the termination character is set to 10 (meaning LF) which I think is the default.

Interesting would be to configure the serial port to accept not one but two termination characters. The above links refers to the document "Developer Zone Tutorial: Termination Characters in NI-VISA.", where this is supposed to be possible. The document however is 404'ed.

Blank screen showing battery sign with red line - possible solution
Hi to everybody,
I had a little issue with my Blackberry curve 8350i, but I think this might go with several models. One day my Blacberry updated an application and restarted, but when restarting suddenly I got a blank screen showing a battery sign with a red line. I took out the battery and put it in again, but no luck. I searched on many forums if anyone experienced the same as me. I found a lot of topics but no solution. I called tech support of my service provide and fortunatelly I talked to a tech guy who was willing to help. He said that this error message usually might appear when the battery is faulty, not original (not my case) or device is not working, but before taking a final statement he wanted me to try something first. He said to take out the battery, the SIM card and any extern memory card. Then to clean any contacts with air. I followed his instructions and after that the device worked again without any problems. I would like to share this experience on this forum maybe this will help other to to solve similar issues.
