Screen size and resolution mismatch after 2008-008 update.
This is very odd. My screen is shifting around every time I move the mouse on my macbook pro. It appears that the mac doesn't think the full resolution will fit on the screen, and so shifts a few pixels up (or down, left, right) whenever I move around the screen. It's very difficult to use since it distorts whatever I'm reading. I've tried selecting different display resolutions: 1440x900, 1280x800, & 1024x768, but the problem persists even on lower resolutions.
Could be a red herring, but I've checked the install.log for errors and found a couple instances of this sequence:
Dec 22 07:42:04 gseven : update_prebinding[25268]: update_prebinding: too many errors (101)
Dec 22 07:42:04 gseven : update_prebinding[25268]: update_prebinding: error: terminating
Dec 22 07:42:04 gseven : update_prebinding[25268]: update_prebinding: error 256 running updateprebindingcore
I don't know if that could even be related. Anyway, does anyone have an idea how to fix this?

Screen Size and Resolution on Remote Access Mavericks
Hi Forum,
Accessing my Mac Mini remotely and it has a new install of Mavericks. The Screen size and shape and resolution isn't right, but Screen options in System doesn't give me any options. Is this because, physically, no screen is attached? Do only screen sizes and options come up when a screen is attached?
it currently shows 1280x960 [i think - just turned off the mac to get back to work] or 'scaled to fit'. Neither is right for the MBP remote access,. It was fine before i upgraded.
any ideas?Hi xerhino, and a warm welcome to the forums!

What preference controls Screen Size and Resolution
After many months of good behavior, my MacBook Pro is back mirroring video to a phantom VGA monitor every time I wake it up. This mangles the view of my actual laptop screen since the phantom is 800x600. I can get rid of it by clicking Detect Montiors, but it takes between 10 and 20 tries for this to work. I am presuming that a particular preference file controls this behavior, so perhaps if I trash that pref, things will go back to behaving normally. I could not find a pref file for displays. Any ideas?
Resetting PRAM and NVRAM has no effect on this problem. Removing the com.apple.systempreferences.plist seems to have done it. The problem is somewhat intermittent, so I will report back in a week if it looks like it solved the problem completely.

Window & frame screen size and resolution
hi,
i have just finished my website:
- done with dreamweaver mx and mac
- only html with a menu on the left frame that always stays
the same and pictures on the main/right frame
- haven´t had any trouble opening the website with
safare or internet explorer in my computer.
the problem seems to be that in some PCs, the left menu
doesn´t appear completely, the last 4 lines from the bottom
disappear under the screen and you need to scroll down, which is
not how it´s meant to work.
this might be a silly thing to ask for it´s simplicity
but i can´t seem to make it work. can someone offer some help?
thanks!!Don't use frames.
The reason for using or not using frames should be based on
a) your site's
needs, and b) your willingness to accept the potential
problems that frames
can create for you as developer and maintainer of the site
and for your
visitors as casual users of the site.
I am down on frames because I believe that they create many
more problems
than they solve.
Judging from the posts here, and the kinds of problems that
are described,
the kind of person most likely to elect to use frames is also
the kind of
person most likely ill-prepared fo solve the ensuing problems
when they
arise. If you feel a) that you understand the problems and b)
that you are
prepared to handle them when they occur, and c) that you have
a need to use
frames, then by all means use them.
As far as I know, the most comprehensive discussions of
frames and their
potential problems can be found on these two links -

Choose canvas size and CS5 freezes ( after Os-X update ?)
Since yesterday Photoshop freezes when I hit Canvas size ( almost all menu's are greyed out, and only palets are activated )
Recently I did a mac os update..(10.6.8 ) Is this the reason??
I did the latest Adobe update 12.0.4 x64
thanks for any help!Thank you for your answer Chris , I know what you mean; In this case this is not the issue:
ESC. or Ctrl-. or nothing works; just re-start PS. brings things alive again.
I have not installed any photoshop plug ins recently

Adjust the screen display dynamically for a given screen size and resolutio
Hi All,
Is there a posibility to change the size of a table control dynamically to maximize the screen utilization keeping in mind , the different screen size and resolution. This is to increase the breadth of the table control that there is maximum utilization of screen and which would not produce any horizontal scroll bar in case of small size monitors.Kindly advice.
Best Regards,
AshwiniThere is no such control that you can put into the programming logic to enhance the visual appearance of the table controls or screens. This is taken care of by SAP GUI, which will adjust the display size of the table control according to the screen resolution.

Image Sizes and Resolution standards?
are there any standards for image sizes and resolution for mobile games specifically: backgrounds and backdrops?
i will be porting my game for various cell phones and i'd like to resize images to fit perfect on all cell phone screens, so what would be the best way to do this and what should my image attributes (height, width) be?
i've tried researching on google to see if there were any standards and couldn't seem to find any. if these standards are non-existent what image sizes have you used that you found worked best on various mobile phones?
thanks
Edited by: sassy on Jun 2, 2008 1:49 PMGoogle's right, there are no real standards for screen sizes. Some are more common than others, but there are dozens of common screen sizes.
The most common are...
176x208 (same as 176x220, but with no status bar)
240x320
176x220
[Getjar resolution stats|http://www.mobref.com/statistics/world/gDispResolution]
Unfortunately, many phones are slightly more or slightly less than those. If you cover those, you're fairly well off though. If you can make your game resolution independent, that's your best option, though with intricate overlays it may be nearly impossible to do. -
Image size and resolution question.
Is an image at W 48.667 x H 32.444 inches at 72 res the same as an image that I could convert in photoshop to 300 res and then the with "Resample Image" clicked off would be W 11.68 x H 7.78 at 300 res for printing purposes? I'm asking this questions because after exporting 200 images from Lightroom 1.4, putting them into an wedding album I realized the images were not at 300 res but the first size listed above. I'm trying not to have to rebatch and have to put them back into the album. I sent the question to NAPP and got this back"
"If you do the math you'll see that the answer is "no."
48x72=3456 pixels; 32x72=2304 pixels
11.68x300=3504 pixels; 7.78x300=2334 pixels."
I did the math and it comes up to 5760 vs 5830. Pretty darn close. So would an image printed out with both settings print the about the same quality or am I missing something?
Thanks
BobBob's question is a common one. And one of the first that most of us struggled to understand. Let's see if I can shed some light to help clarify the matter.
o The image starts out with a given number of pixels from the camera, scanner, or whatever was its source. The resolution only matters when it comes time to print the image.
72 dpi was once a common resolution for displaying on a computer monitor. Today 90 dpi is more common monitor resolution.
o Let's assume that the image is 3504 x 2336 pixels (which I got from his size @ 72 dpi).
o In "image size", if you do _not_ have 'resample image' checked, all you are doing is _rescaling the image. The image resolution is whatever you enter ...
For example, if you enter 360 dpi -- the native printing resolution of many Epson printers -- you get a print size of 9.733 x 6.489 inches
o Let's say you want to print this image at 360 dpi in portrait on 13 x 19 inch paper with a one inch border on the sides. That would make the short dimension of the image 11 inches and the long would work out to 16.5.
To do that you need to _resample_ the image to change the size. More pixels will be made. The resolution stays at 360 dpi. So check the 'resample image' box.
After resampling to get the print size and resolution you want, the pixel dimension goes to 5960 x 3960 (from 3504 x 2336). Those new pixels came at a price, but that is a matter for another thread and a lot of personal bias.
Hope that helped.
P.S. The answer to your question, Bob, is yes. With resample off in PhotoShop, your original images should have gone to 11.68 x 7.787 inches @300 dpi.
In looking at the rest of your original post, it seems that the export didn't work the way that you wanted. Do I read right that the images turned out to be 11.68 x 7.787 @ 72 dpi? Can't help with that as I don't do Lightroom. -
Can someone assist me with changing image size and resolution. each time I change the width the height changes and vice/versa?
There's a chain link between width and height. The point is to keep the aspect ratio the same, otherwise your picture would get stretched.
You click on the chain-link to shut that off and you can adjust width and height separately.
Also could you give us your version of Photoshop, what OS you are running it on (Windows 7 for example) and what exactly you want to do with your document?
Resolution is the print term for how many pixels will be printed on an inch of paper. It doesn't apply if your image is intended for screen viewing.

How to find the size and resolution option in the aspect ratio drop down menu for the crop tool
while looking through certain tutorials on the new crop system i came across many that referenced the above mentioned size and resolution option in the access ratio drop down menu. They all mention a dialog box which then appears which looks really useful, however my version doesnt have this option. any help would be appreciated.

John, are there already differences? I thought 13.1 was mainly about retina display support, but I guess there would also be other fixes released while they were at it.
Yes, definitely already differences. I sympathize with Photoshop instructors (online and offline).
The headline change was Retina support but that was also made available to non-Cloud versions.
Other Cloud-only changes in 13.1 are listed here

Non-Cloud CS6 users have been very vocal and disgruntled about some of these changes. -
Best Size and Resolution to Scan Photos?
Hi, I need to create a photo slide show in iMovie. I would do it iPhoto but I need to able to time my music and add intermittent titles so I guess I'll need to use iMovie. I'm very new to iMovie and actually am used to editing on Avid and Media 100 (which I no longer have access to) so I'm a little scared! So, my question is - when I scan my photos what is the best size and resolution to scan them at for the best final results? It will be viewed on a TV from a DVD. Any other tips for a newbie also appreciated. Thanks so much! -Julie
p.s. I'm using iMovie HD but I'm on a G4 so don't have HD capabilites. Not sure if that matters.Hi Julie: Look here:

Original Size and Resolution (How do I access that file)
If you go to your photo album and click 'veiw larger image' you receive this message:
Note: This picture may be displayed smaller than the actual picture size. The original uploaded image size and resolution are preserved in your account.
The same question was posted with a solution to send the photo to your e-mail account. The does not resolve my problem. I should be able to access the original size and resolution here, online, in my account. You should be able to sign in to your account with Adobe to retrieve the serial number. Then download version 7 from here:
Download Photoshop Elements products | 9, 8, 7
Worst case option:
Download the trial version of Photoshop Elements 13:
Adobe Photoshop Elements 13 Direct Download Links, Premiere too | ProDesignTools
and save it as a tiff or jpeg and you can open it with any photo viewer.
You may even find that you want to buy the latest version. -
Circular and oval cropping at set size and resolution?
I know how to use the M tool to create circles and ovals and i know you can set that to certain dimensions, but that doesn't do everything I need.
How do you crop circles and ovals out of a photo, at a set size (for example, a 1 inch circle ) at a set resolution for printing? What I need to do is crop circular and oval images out of a photo, say at 250 dpi, then paste them onto a blank white page for printing.
So if I've got let's say a photo that's 14x10 inches at 300dpi, I want to be able to go in, crop out an oval or circle, with as much or as little of the photo that I can or want to, setting that automatically to a certain dimension and dpi, then paste it into a blank white page I've already created at that same d
When finished I'd have maybe 20 or 30 images on a page that I can flatten all the layers and print.
I can't find a way to set size and resolution with anything other than the regular square crop tool. You can make an action and use it as one step automation to achieve that on an initial selection.
Step by step instructions:
With the Elliptical Marquee Tool, make the desired selection on a image.
Open the Actions panel (Window > Actions (Alt+F9), from its menu at the top right or corresponding buttons at the bottom, choose New Action, and in the dialog that appears press the Record button.
From the Image menu, choose Crop.
From the Selection menu, choose Inverse (Ctrl+Shift+I)
Press the d key on your keyboard to reset the foreground/background color swatches.
Press Ctrl + Delete keys on your keyboard to fill with white.
From the Image menu, choose Image Size (Ctrl+Alt+I), make sure the Resample Image is checked, and in the Document Size section enter the desired dimensions and resolution and press OK.
In the Actions Panel press the Stop Recording button.
Now you can copy or drag the image to another image.
For the next image make the oval selection, go to the Actions panel, select the actions you created above, and press the play button. You can also create a keyboard shortcut in the action's property accessible by double clicking the action.
The creation of this action assumes that in the final image you will be composing oval images on white background without overlapping their rectangular bounding boxes. If you plan to overlap them then the action must be modified to make the image a transparent layer and delete outside the oval instead of filling with white. -
Adjust front panel to screen size and re-position objects on different systems automatically
Hello, i have designed a vi that contains 5 led's placed at the 4 corners and center of the front panel which occupies the entire screen. However, this vi is to be used on different systems having different screen sizes. But on every screen, i'll need the front panel size = screen size and the led's to be placed to the centers and corner of this new screen size automatically without any manual operations and positioning bieng done every time. Will the resize option perform this task completely or do i have to go for some other techniques?
Solved!
Go to Solution. As far as I know, what you want is not easy to do but it is doable but you have to programmatically do it (no Labview setting). Here is an example for only 2 LEDs but I suppose that you will be able to make it work for your other LEDs.
This VI maximizes the front panel and then positions the 2 LEDs in the center and top right corner upon running. The LEDs are positioned according to their own top left corners, not according to their centers.
