Welcome to the HP Community Forum.
I can tell you what might be wrong -- but I cannot tell you exactly how to fix it on your TV...
I believe you need to adjust the Aspect Ratio and shove in the sides a bit on the display.
This is NOT the resolution -- that is probably fine.  Different animal.
The adjustment is likely done on the monitor itself, that is, with the buttons / settings available on the back / side of the TV - or maybe with the standard TV remote.  Keep in mind, that if you were to use a "remote" to make these adjustments, it would be the standard TV remote and NOT the cable remote that one might use with the cable service.  You want to get into the TV monitor settings.
I hope that helps.

  • Controlling screen size with DVI to HDMI

I have a Mac mini attached to my 50 inch Pioneer plasma via DVI to HDMI cable. I also have an Apple TV, but I brought the Mac, because I can use iTunes to play video playlists (The Apple TV can't do this yet). And for the most part, the Mac/Plasma hookup works excellent. However, once in a while, when I switch HDMI inputs, or the Mac goes to sleep and awakes, the screen gets off 'kilter' (e.g., the desktop overshoots the borders of the TV). The only way to get it back to normal again, is to power everything off and unhook / rehook the DVI to HDMI cable. I would use VGA, but the screen looks clearer, brigher with HDMI, and I the videos through iTunes fill the screen better. I tried the Gefen DVI detective, but that didn't seem to work. Is there anything else I can try ? I see the Res X program listed here in many posts, but not sure if this would help and not sure how to configure to solve issue....Thanks.

It sounds to me like it is the TV that is failing to hold onto a setting, not the Mac. Can you find evidence of this? There must be various modes controlling the size/aspect ratio of how video is displayed on the plasma. I would check the settings before and after the problem occurs to see if, in fact, the setting is changing under the conditions you describe of either the Mac waking from sleep or the HDMI input on the TV being switched away from and then back to. If you can confirm it is the TV that is behaving this way, then you need to find out why, possibly taking the matter up with Pioneer.

  • Y screen size is big and I want it to return to normal size

all my icons are big and I want to return them to normal size

Double tap with three fingers on your screen again to reduce the size.
    Zoom feature:
Zoom in or out: Double-tap the screen with three fingers. By default, the screen is magnified 200 percent. If you manually change the magnification (by using the tap-and-drag gesture, described below), iPod touch automatically returns to that magnification when you zoom in by double-tapping with three fingers.
Increase magnification: With three fingers, tap and drag toward the top of the screen (to increase magnification) or toward the bottom of the screen (to decrease magnification). The tap-and-drag gesture is similar to a double-tap, except you don’t lift your fingers on the second tap—instead, drag your fingers on the screen. Once you start dragging, you can drag with a single finger

  • Screen size 10 pixels to big after update to 10.4.10

I have to me at least, a strange problem... my screen size is too big for the monitor.
    I have a dual-monitor system, btw.
When the mouse is at the far right of the desktop, the entire screen area moves in the other direction as to "accomodate" the lack of physical screen space. And moving it to the other side, vice versa.
The screens are also blurry compared to before 10.4.10 update.
If it helps, the screens are two LG Flatron L1919S, and my screen resolution is 1280x1024.
    G5 (late 2005)   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   Dual-monitor

There are two ways to get Zoom. One is in the "Seeing" pane of "Universal Access" System Preference. It shows the commands to control it. The second method is by moving the scroll-wheel on a mouse while Control is held down. This works even if Zoom is turned off in "Universal Access".
Command-Option-8, once or twice, will always turn it off.

  • Ti4400 TV-out screen size

    Hi,
I'm using the Geforce 4 ti4400 card, and I connected a vcr and TV to my card.
    My problem is this:
The size of the screen is too big for the TV.
In other words, I get only part of the screen on tv.
I tried the screen adjustment, but the problem is simply that it's too big.
    Please help me soon,
    Thanks,
    Eyal

    Welcome to Apple Discussions:
The DVI input is purely digital. The VGA is analog. With VGA, the settings for the TV set are automatic because there is a single standard for VGA.
With DVI there are many standards, may resolutions, scanrates, etc.
On my Sony Bravia, there are many menu settings for compatibility. The computer does its best to detect the best resolution etc on the monitor, but for older monitors, you may need to set the vertical/horizontal/refresh rates manually. If there are not an option, then there is not much to do.
You can play with the resolution setting on your Mac, that might work.
What resolutions does your Samsung display? Most Digital TVs today include the standard 480, of course, 720 and 1080.
If you TV erroneously detects a resolution, it will display improperly. Does your computer just detect a generic Samsung? Or does it actually list your model number?
It's not clear what "HD-ready" means. There are older HDMI standards and specs that may be the problem. The TV and computer "talk" to each other but if there is some error in the signals, then it won't work properly.

  • I use iwires to connect macbook to lg tv to watch netflix. How do I increase screen size on tv.I have tried display options on settings- not working

I use iwires to connect macbook to lg tv to watch netflix. How do you increase screen size on rv.I have tried display settings ,but not working

I would guess that the HDMI port on your mac is for output only - no input, and that's what your'e attempting to do when you attach the mac to your xbox. I looked in Mactracker and it lists the HDMI port as video output for both the 13" Retina MacBook Pro and the 15" Retina MacBook Pro (your post didn't say which one you have), so looks like that is the issue..

  • Screen size keeps changing

That's suspiciously like 'Boiler Plate Text'.  Did you have to pay Station royalties? ;-)  Actually, it is rather better than the version Ramon wheels out.  I think I'll grab the link for my big page of ready forum responses. :-)
Possible reasons a window would change size
Ctrl or Alt Spacebar and left click drag (standard zoom feature)
or my best guess, he has Zoom with mouse wheel check in General preferences.  This operates completely by itself, (no other key needed) so would be very easy to make happen unintentionally.

  • Hi can some one please help my screen size has changed its self  and is now larger than the screen can someone please let me know if this is a bug? if so how do i fix this? or am i just a nonce? if so how do i resolve this thanks in advance.

sorry Q is in the tittle having big issues with my screen so its hard to use

Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Displays
Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Universal Access
are both places where screen size may change inadvertantly.  Use higher resolutions, but lower screen zoom.

  • Cannot adjust page width to fit to screen size on some PCs with IE

Hello friends, I am using APEX 4.0 and IE9 on different Windows 7 PCs . The page will go way off the screen to the right on one PC, and fits nicely inside the screen on another PC. This problem does not occur in Firefox on any PC. I have used Firebug to try to isolate the template or css settings. Using Theme_4, I have a breadcrumb region and 4 reports regions. One of the reports regions is in column 1 and 3 regions are in column 2. Display point is Page Template Body (3. Items above region content) for all the reports regions. The CSS is #themes/theme_4/css/theme_4_0.css. The template is One Level Tabs (Right Sidebar/Table Based). I tried various width="" using px and % under Edit Page Template-Definition-Body (see below). I tried style="width:800px" within the <div> tags. I have tried various other changes to theme_4_0.css and apex_4_0.css with no visible change to the page width on the obstinate PCs. I reset IE setting and deleted all personal settings on both PCs with no changes to either one, one fits on the screen and the other does not. The issue is that most of our users use IE so most of them will have to live with using the horizontal scroll bar to see the regions in column 2, unless we switch them all to Firefox (not a bad option, except that option works for our users only, we have no control over external browsers). I have tried suggestions from many discussion threads, as this problem has bothered us for quite some time. I know this is an IE problem, but any help is appreciated. Thank you.
"|" represents screen size and "-" is the regions/content for the "bad" PCs.

The "good" PCs look like this:

I think your concerns are very reasonable. But I want to sort of refocus things a little bit for you here... it's not really a PC vs Mac issue... Rather, it's specifically an Internet Explorer issue. And you might say that this is synonymous...still 98% of the world uses IE, and you would be correct. Hopefully when the final version of IE7 comes out, it will finally embrace some of the modern day OPEN web standards without trying to make too many standards of its own (this is Microsoft, though).
Anyways, in the meantime, I guess we all try to make the best of it. It's very easy to conclude that iWeb is not a viable tool for you, as long as you have something else to "fall back" on. With my limited knowledge of all things HTML, I have no such luxury. Instead, I have put up a notice on my site for IE users only that the site might not look its best on IE....this notice also encourages IE users to use FireFox, which is very much like Safari and will in 99% of cases display your iWeb pages just like you expect. You can see how I've done this here (but you have to surf from IE)... http://blog.dirtdoog.com
I think many people in the PC world understand the limitations of IE. Certainly many don't, but you have to consider your likely audience, I guess. I believe that your website content is king. If your content is compelling enough to your intended audience, they will jump through hoops to see it in its full glory....but you have to make them aware of the problem. That's why I have chosen to take the path that I have taken.
Let me know what you think.

  • Nothing displayed on TV through HDMI.

I have an Acer 4820T with Intel HD 3000 graphics and am trying to use a Sharp LC-37GA8E as a second display. It works in Windows 7 without problems but not in Arch using arandr/xrandr. The TV will change resolution as you try different settings but the screen is blank. Arandr/xrandr does work perfectly with an LG M2262D through HDMI.

  • HD Screen Size

FIOS TV/internet/phone installed yesterday and I already have a problem with TV displays.  Two HD sets display all HD channels smaller than screen size - black bars on all four sides. Aspect ratio is displayed correctly.  STB is CHS 335HDC. The STB is set to 1080i resolution and I have also tried Native and 780p. One TV is 1080p and the other is 720p.
I have rebooted the STB's and no change. On both TV's, I have tried expanding the image to fill the screen but the result looks awful - distorted and certainly not HD. A third TV is displaying HD correctly using a CHS 435HDC.  Of course, all the TV's worked just fine with Comcast.  Any suggestions?

Problem solved - replace the coax with either a component video or HDMI cable. Either one solves the problem but HDMI provides a better image.

  • Dolby digital through HDMI

I have a 2012 MacBook Pro with retina display. I'm trying to get Dolby digital through the hdmi port and after comparing some media attached to my receiver the same movie was Dolby digital on my WDTV and using the same cable was stereo connected to my MacBook Pro.
I'm not sure if its a setting or an atypical apple thing like they did with the digital stereo connection in headphone jack using a mini fiber optic cable (phoslink).
I suppose if I want to hear Dolby digital out of my Mac,  I wondering if I need a thunderbolt to hdmi to get what I want. Dolby digital through HDMI is an industry standard!

After talking to three levels of support, I finally was told the new Macbook Pros (with Retina display) are NOT capable of producing Dolby digital through the HDMI port.  They only do digital stereo.
In order to produce up to 8 channels of Dolby digital surround sound you must use an additional toslink cable, which is a mini fiber optic, found cheap at Monoprice!
Just for the record, the expensive Thundebolt to HDMI or mini Display port to HDMI only do stereo too.  Not a big deal for most, but upsetting if you're expecting a HDMI to function as it does in any other piece of equiptment!!

  • Reduced Screen Size

I have hooked up an ATV2 to a 70inch Mitsubishi DLP and everything is working except that it is shrinking the screen size down quite a bit. Probably to around what would be about 36inches. Any ideas?

ATV2 is not capable of supporting infinite resolutions.
You can only make adjustments on the TV based on input... you are using HDMI, correct?

  • Why did my screen size just default to 800 x 600?

Last evening I ran 'Check For Updates' and after a Adobe Reader update my screen reverted to 800 by 600.  I don't write down what settings I use, I simply have been using whatever is comfortable.  Now I cannot find it. I may have caused the default setting through an erroneous keystroke, but I'm not sure.  How do I find the settings that I had say 24 or 36 hours ago and revert back to that screen size?
    Thank you for any help!

Go into your system preferences and click on displays then make sure 1,920 x1,200 is selected.
