Screen starting to fade in the corner

My macbook is 4 years old and the screen was replaced at the genius bar in Glasgow a year later in response to a problem that was unrelated to the screen. The problem was an overactive fan which makes the bottom of the screen go dark sometimes. There was nothing wrong with the actual screen and now the top left corner has started to fade, most noticably when watching films.
Is this normal or was my screen replaced with one with a shorter lifetime?
It's a MacBook3,1 bought in November 2007.
As for the fan, it's still whurring like a hair dryer a lot of the time, I've managed to isolate and remove certain processes but it still goes off when I watch video on youtube, or use websites that require adobe flash to be installed, there's not a lot I can do about that. Maybe if I installed windows on it it might stop this, who knows...
The display also goes blank when I tilt the screen at a certain angle, so I tend not to use the machine as a portable device anymore if I can help it in case moving the screen further exacerbates the problems or causes a total failure in video output altogther, because I can't afford to have it fixed.

WELL IT FINALLY HAPPENED MY SCREEN HAS GONE ON THE BLINK. 1250 EURO FOR THIS, AND NOW I CAN'T AFFORD TO PAY ANOTHER WAD OF CASH TO GET IT FIXED WELL THANK YOU VERY MUCH APPLE I WONT BE BUYING ANY OF YOUR PRODUCTS AGAIN YOU CLEARLY DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR CUSTMERS
I'M TYPING THIS WEARING A TORCH ON MY HEAD TO LIGHT THE SCREEN BUT IT'S NOT VERY WORKABLE, IT SORT OF FLICKERS WHEN I ADJUST IT BUT I JUST CAN'T GET IT TO STAY LIT
WHAT IS THERE A LOOSE CABLE INSIDE IF I OPENED ITCOULD I FIX IT QUITE EASILY?
I GUESS PROBABLY NOT, DEISNGING THEM LIKE WOULD BE TOO EASY AND THEN THEY COULDN'T CHARGE US MORE MONEY TO GET PROBLEMS LIKE THIS FIXED.
MACBOOKS ARE A JOKE I TOTALLY REGRET BUYING ONE NOW.

• My eMac's screen has gone green in the corner and i am worried.

I have an eMac which was bought for me, brand new, back in sept 2003 so it is now 4 years old however it has had most of its use in the last 9 months to a year, since i upgraded my operating software and went wireless, before this i had to use the hubbies pc for most of my work.
Today i have noticed in the bottom left hand side of the screen it had turned a shade of green, on a white page, and causes the menu bar at the bottom to become somewhat dulled when "up".
Is this a sign the screen is on its way out, if so should i think about investing in a flat screen monitor and hooking it up, like i have seen on a different post about an emac?
Or is my beloved mac going to die on me, when i have just fully been able to make best use of it with better software and access to the internet?
Any advice would be gratefully appreicated.
many thanks

A failing CRT is possible but a more plausible is that some external magnetic field source has caused the electron guns on the CRT to be thrown slightly out of alignment. Has anything drawing electrical power or containing a magnet been moved near the eMac recently? Move any nearby item further away from the eMac, then shut down and let the computer sit for 30 minutes or so. The do a cold start; that will force the eMac to perform it's screen degaussing routine. See if that combination helps.

• Playing a jigsaw puzzle on my ipad4, after awhile the screen starts feeling warm to the touch?

When playing a jigsaw puzzle on my ipad 4, the screen feels warm to the touch.

That's normal. It's only abnormal if it gets too hot to hold.

• Would the battery dying cause part of the screen to start flickering brighter than the rest?

I've had my MacBook Pro since 2010. Recently the screen started flickering brighter on the right side. Tapping the screen would stop it for a bit. But the the battery died recently and it no longer turns on at all. It's well past warranty so would it be cheaper for me to just get a new MacBook Pro instead? Or would replacing the battery fix the screen issue?

While anything is possible I would strongly doubt that replacing the battery would fix the screen issue. Does the system run off the power charger? Does it make any difference to the screen?
If you are near an Apple store you could make a Genius Bar appointment there is no charge for looking at the system. It might be worth hearing what they have to say.

• My iphone won't start at all and slowly started to fade out

my iphone won't charge from Dec 31 midnight. well first it was freezing, and i lock it then i plug the charger. but it doesn't turn on until morning - right now actually. i already restore it and it was working but it freeze again! i reboot it over and over but black dots started to show up and the screen started to fade out. according to my experience, the screen were burned. is it means that i should go to the store for fixing it or i should get a new phone? HELP!

Did you try booting into your Recovery partition? Hold down the command and R keys whilst booting and if you can get to your Recovery partition use Disk Utility to verify your disk and, if needed, repair the disk.
If it can't be repaired, then it's likely dying.

• Can't prevent screensaver from starting as soon as the fading starts

Hi,
I'm using gnome-screensaver. Lately, as soon as the screensaver is triggered because of inactivity and the screen starts to fade to black, if I want to stop the screensaver by moving the mouse or pressing any key, it just doesn't work. It didn't happen before, not sure what update of what package caused this.
Anybody else experiencing this or know how to solve this problem, please?
Thanks.

Finally figured this out. I had assumed that the "start iTunes" option was separate for each computer, but apparently, it's a single option. I had accidentally left it on at home, and since it syncs via WiFi every time I connect it to a charger, this always overwrote what I did at work. Once I turned it off at home, it stayed off in both places.

• After forced check my screen start flashing

I'm writing from my windows pc now (unfortunately) since on my arch linux pc i got a big problem, i have rebooted it the normal way (# reboot) but after rebooting i had forced check and it had to reboot again, after that he passed the check, now comes the problem, i see the nvidia logo as usual and after few seconds i see the pointer, after few moment (not even a second) the screen starts flashing, changing from the nvidia logo to the mouse then to some other screen which i can't see what is, between the changes there is a pause of 3 second with completely black screen, i really don't know what to do..

Resolved the problem, in level 1 i edited deamon deleting gdm then reboot and in level 3 i run x server which said that the problem is libpng12 (new cairo bug), so i just run a full system update followed by a reboot and rewriting gdm in deamon and it was all ok. It was completely my bad.

Yes, yes, yes... I've gone through all the common sense trouble shoots. Would't be here asking questions if that answers existed on the net. Sorry if I sound a bit edgey, but I've had nothing but issues with every update since IOS 7. Clearly there's nothing that can be done about this. and this is the final nail in the coffin to try to make me buy an Iphone 5.

You can find the serial number either in About this Mc in the Menu bar under the , or it should be on a sticker under the foot of the machine.
If you have the install discs, try booting from them, holding down the c key and then using Disk Utility to check the drive.
You can also boot into Safe mode
To start up into Safe Mode (to "Safe Boot"), do this:
1. Be sure the computer is shut down.
2. Press the power button.
3. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key.
Tip: The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.
4. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple and progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During the startup in Mac OS X 10.2 through 10.3.9, you will see "Safe Boot" on the Mac OS X startup screen.
During the startup in Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you will see "Safe Boot" on the login window, which appears even if you normally log in automatically.
Please post back with results,
To leave Safe Mode in any version of Mac OS X, restart the computer normally, without holding any keys during startup.

• When I'm on youtube and I'm watching a video, and I switch tabs or look at something else, the video from youtube will appear in the corner of my screen and won't leave.

Alright, lets say I'm watching a video on youtube. If I switch tabs, the video from youtube will appear in my top left screen and won't go away. Or if I go to any other site or program and try to open a file from my computer, the video will pop up in the corner again and I won't be able to see anything I need to. This sounds like a glitch or something. I just need to know how to fix it.

Does this only happen on specific pages?
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

You can try to disable notifications as a test (you may want to reverse this).
You can try to set the dom.webnotifications.enabled pref to false on the about:config page.

• Whenever I open the browser, it immediately minimizes and I have to click in the corner to get the full screen. How can I change this?

The browser opens, then immediately minimizes to about 1/4 screen size. I have to click the corner box to maximize to full screen. It stays that way until I close it. But it happens every time I open it.

Sorry you did not receive an understandable solution. First of all try rrcovering from the situation using Firefox's safe mode try that and post back with ow you get on. This is the easy option from the link in cor-el 's post, if it does not work you may have to try the hard version !
Try to start firefox in safe mode
# either hold the shift key when starting firefox or
use Firefox Button -> Help -> Restart with Add-ons disabled
# does it start in safe mode ok ?
do you see the safe mode options as shown in the screen-shot ?
NOTE you will loose some toolbar customisation when you proceed to the last step
# unlikely, but you may even see the problem is solved whilst at this stage and in safe mode, if so please mention this, it is a pointer as to what the problem is.
# click on the option checkbox -> [] Reset toolbars and controls

• IPhone 5 sleep button not working but theres a tiny crack in the corner of the screen, about a quarter of an inch.

I started to notice that my sleep button started to not respond like normal. I would have to push it more and more times for my phone to turn off. Only the left part of the sleep button works. I have read a bunch of forums about this and people have been saying they got the phone exchanged no questions asked. I am wondering, since there is a tiny crack in the corner of the phone, will Apple turn down my phone and make me pay $49.99 since I have Apple Care. The sleep button started to not work before the corner of the screen got cracked. Bad luck I guess. What should I try to do ?

As I mentioned, someone else's personal experience may not be duplicated. It all boils down to what the particular Genius has to say at the date and time that you show up. The worse they can say is they will not replace the phone under warranty and you would be offered an OOW replacement. If you have Apple Care +, it would be a $50 deductible, where the OOW replacement cost for the iPhone 5 in the US is $229.

• (Mountain Lion) suddenly the screen turns black, and I have to use the switch to turn it on. And, the screen turns to zoom, and the only way to turn to normal is to close the window and start all over again?

(Mountain Lion) suddenly the screen turns black, and I have to use the on/off switch to turn it on. And, the screen turns to zoom, and the only way to return to normal is to close the window and start all over again?

Does the screen go black while you are using the machine? ...or after it has sat idle for a bit?
If it happens while you're using the machine, check to see if a hot corner has been set for sleep. You can do that here: System Preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver > Screen Saver and click the button labelled "Hot Corners..." in the lower right.
If it happens after a bit of idle time, that's normal sleep behavior. The delay can be adjusyed here: System Preferences > Energy Saver.
In either case, pressing any key on the keyboard should bring it out of sleep.
Re zooming -
If this happens while in Safari, and you are using an Apple Magic Mouse, a default setting applicable to it is that a soft double-tap on the mouse will zoom the Safari window. A second double-tap will bring it back.
If it is the entire screen that is zooming, Control plus scroll gesture on the mouse will zoom the whole screen. Repeat with the opposite scroll gesture to bring it back.

• HT201272 Hey I just got an iphone 4S as my 4 was stolen. I synched it and I can see all of my music but I can't get the songs to play... When I hit play it screen starts flipping thru all my music then goes back to main screen. What do I do. Thanks :)

Help! On my new iPhone 4S, I can see all of my music and vidoes that I downloaded from itunes that I had previously purchased on my iPhone 4, BUT I can not play any of the songs! When I hit "play" from my 'albums' and 'playlist' or 'songs' it looks like it is going to play the song when the song screen comes up showing the album but then the screen starts flipping from album to album or song to song randomly. Then after flipping thru anywhere from 10-15 songs, it stops and goes back the previous page showing my list of music.... I have synched my phone, restored it and downloaded all of my music and videos. The only things I can get to play from my iPod on my iPhone 4S is my videos, no music. Can anyone help me? I have been trying to figure it out for days and I am a bit frustrated. Thanks in advance for any help I may receive.

Basics from the manual are restrt, reset, restore.
Have you tried each of these?
