You can do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
*Firefox 28: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
*(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

  • TS3676 Why does MacBookPro screen stay grey while gear disc keeps spinning endlessly?

MacBook Pro would not shut down using the shut down mode. Had to do it manually. When I tried to boot it up again, the screen stays grey with Apple icon displyed while gear disc keeps spinning endlessly. Have had to shut it down manually and then tried to boot it up again to no avail.
    Any suggestions?

Hello! Try running fsck. It runs the same repair routine that disk utility does. I do recommend that you have a set of install disks or at least a bootable clone of your hard drive. If fsck doesn't repair the disk then disk utility on the install disc probably wouldn't either. The next alternative is DiskWarrior. Tom
    fsck
Startup holding down the apple key AND the "S" key
You'll start up into a command line interface.. it'll look strange but just hang in there.
When it's done booting up, you should see something that looks like this:
    localhost:/ root#
at this point, type in 'fsck -f" please note the space before the dash, and of course, ignore the quote marks, then hit return
You computer will no go thru some low level checks on your HD. Most likely you'll get a list of a few files that have problems and this procedure will fix them.
This should take about 2 or 3 mins, so don't be in a rush.
When the line says "VOLUME WAS MODIFIED", this means that changes were made.
At this point you should be back at the same
    localhost:/ root# prompt.
    run fsck -f again.
    Wait for it to finish.
if you continue to get the "Volume was modified" message,
continue to run fsck -f until you'll get a prompt that says
The Volume(your HD) appears to be ok,
again with the localhost:/ root# prompt.
AT this point, type reboot, hit enter and your computer will start up normally.

  • My screen stays grey when I turn it on

Is there anything I can do to fix it. I can hear the for OSX and Ubuntu and I've tried everything on the apple site to fix it and nothing has worked. I've also tried hooking it up to two different moniters (both are tvs one is a Maxent LCD and the other is a rear projection Sony, I hooked it up with s-video) I don't know what to do, any help would be greatly appriciated.
    Thanks

Have you tried run the Apple hardware test? Insert the first OS X CD that came with your system, reboot holding the option key down, choose the Apple hardware test, and when prompted choose the extended test. If you have TechTool Deluxe or Pro, that can do the same tests. Does this identify a problem?
Can you find someone with a real computer monitor, not a TV, and try using it?
Do you have an external backup you can boot from?
Without any other information ("I've tried everything" is subjective), based on the description that your screen stays gray and you can't output to a TV, one might surmise that either your video circuit is toast, the logic board is toast, or your hard drive has issues and the system can't complete the boot process.

  • My screen stays grey after I sign in

After the "gong" and the Apple logo, it asks me to sign in. After that the screen goes gray and stays that way. Any ideas how to fix that?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • My mac shows a grey screen and spinning gear and nothing else. please help! i want my mac to work again :/

My mac needed new updates and after clickign update it soon told me there was an error and it froze. I then let it sit fo about 15 minutes adn nothign changed so I restarted it and ever since then all my computer will show is the grey screen and a spinning gear :/ can anyone help me with this problem?

I had the same issue, and I had recently backed-up my files (mostly because the mac was acting wonky before this even happened), so I did an erase and install. Then I ran through all the software upgrades and installed all of them. When I did a required restart (for the Mac OS X 10.4.11 update) it went BACK to grey screen with spinning ball. Talk about frustrating!
I think there is something weird going on with the iTunes update and the Mac OS X 10.4.11 update. But one can't be used without the other. So I'm not sure how to update everything safely and get an up to date system, without having all the problems I had before. So now I'm using Mac OS X 10.4.7 so I can have a stable system to do my work, but I can't run iTunes 7.0. I'm too scared to update OS b/c I can't waste another day re-installing everything (for like the third time).
I'm a pretty new Mac user (year and half) so this may sound really dumb, but any suggestions would be very welcomed. I may start a new thread instead of hijacking this one...

  • My computer suddenly refuse to start. When I turn it on it gives the startup sound but the screen is grey and after a while a little folder icon with a question mark inside turns up. It doesn't blink. What to do? Nothing happens if I try to start up from

As I say my computer, a mac mini refuse to start. When I turn it on it gives the startup sound and the screen turns grey and stay that way for a long time. And in the end a small folder icon with a question mark inside (it doesn't blink) turns up in the middle of the screen.
I have tried to start up from the installation CD holding down the C key on the keyboard. Same result. I have tried different key combinations while starting up. No result or rather same result. Nothing. Is the computer suddenly dead?
I was about to buy a new computer but I need access to my data on this one (I write this on an iPad) but hven't yet found a way.
    Anybody have any good advice?
I thought it was a software problem, that the computer couldn't find the startup software or something and maybe it is, but I am beginning to fear that it could be a hardware problem.

You need to re install OSX. If you have the dmg file downloaded via torrentz this is how you can create a bootable external HD or Flash drive (8 GB+)

  • MBP won't boot past grey spinning gear screen

I tried to turn on my computer the other day, it turns out it wont boot up past the grey spinning gear screen.
First thing I did was reboot from SL install disk, I ran disk utility and tried to verify and repair my HD, both came back with errors... uh oh
I then tried to back up the hard drive by creating a new disk image of my HD and placing it on my USB external, came up with and I/O error... oh sh*t
I tried reinstalling snow leopard and it could not be installed... F*CK!
I tried starting it up single single user mode to see what was happening, turns out it get to the line "dis0s2: I/O error blah blah blah" and then keeps iterating it indefinalty, leading me to believe my hard drive is dead or dying.
    so now for the question:
Is it still possible to backup my hard drive in this state? I know, I know, should've been backing it up all along but I'm stupid and didn't. I don't really care about my user setting or anything like that but I use this computer for college and have tons of documents on it that I need.
Also my applecare has expired so i would like to stay away from those genious bartenders.
    Any suggestions?

If you have access to another Mac with Firewire then you can connect the two via Firewire cable. You can then attempt to boot your computer into Target Disk Mode. If that's successful then boot the other computer normally. If your drive is accessible it will appear on the Desktop of the other computer. It may then be possible to copy your files if the drive is at all intact. If not you may be able to use recovery software to restore your files. If the drive is not accessible even to recovery software, then you would have to send it to a business that specializes in drive recovery. These are very expensive alternatives - $500 minimally.
You can also try third-party disk repair software. The best of the lot is Disk Warrior, but if the drive has a hardware failure preventing access, then I'm afraid there's little you can do to recover your files beyond sending the drive to a data recovery service.
    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten with recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro. Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.
Also visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on Data Recovery.

My IPad screen is grey even after I tried pressing the sleep and home button for reboot but turns out it stays grey.

You can try to reboot a few more times. If it doesn't come back and you normally sync to a computer, hook it up and see if the 'guts' are working even if the screen isn't.
Beyond that you should make an appointment at your local apple store and have them check it out.

If you are looking at the front page of the App Store and you are seeing the "downloading" message on the right under Quick Links.
Try this... Go into the "Purchases" section in the top bar of the App Store find ML in the list you are presented with. Does it say Resume? If so click the button and it will change to Pause. You may have paused it previously and forgot.
If not then do as Csound1 suggested and simply wait for it to finish

Sounds like the hold switch is broken, meaning you'll need to have your iPod serviced/replaced either by Apple or a third party repair company.
