Screen sticking won't rotate

are there any updates coming to solve the screen sticking when it rotates?
my phone sticks in the media player and text messages mostly. i can get it to unstick by closing and reopening the app, or if i rotate my phone all the way around it unsticks.

User troubleshooting is:
1.restart, ie power off/on,
2. reset  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430,
3. restore from backup, restore as new device. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
You can take it in if you suspect it is a hardware issue.

It depends on what image you are referring to. Not everything will rotate on the phone, the home screen being one of them. Check to see if Orientation lock is on, it will display a small lock and circular symbol near the battery icon. It is controlled in Control Center. Swipe upwards from the bottom of the screen and Orientation lock is the icon on the far right side of the top row. Tap to turn on or off, white is on, black is off.

    Please HELP!
I just got my Iphone 4s last month. It's kind of an hand-me-down and I don't know about it's first owner but yesterday it was still fine but when I got home, the screen orientation won't rotate anymore. If I unlock the "portrait lock on" it just reverts back to its landscape orientation and won't rotate no matter how much I turn my phone. I really don't know what to do :(

    Hello there, Halloween.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great steps for troubleshooting issues with performance of an iOS device:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3281
If a single application is not responding or stops responding when it opens, you can force it to close.
If the device is unresponsive or if certain controls aren't working as expected, restart your device.
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on), reset your device.
If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
Let it charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged. Learn more about charging iPhone and iPod touch, or iPad.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more aboutrestoring iOS software.
If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode, and then restore it.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact Apple.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro

  • TS3274 Screen still won't rotate on iPad

Screen won't rotate. The settings show it is unlocked & it's not set to the mute button.
Tried resetting iPad based on other threads & it still won't rotate. Any ideas? Thank you.

If you do not see the padlock icon in the upper right corner, then the screen isn't locked. If the padlock icon is there, the screen is in fact locked. If you don't see the icon, and you have tried resetting the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time until the Apple Logo appears on the screen, try resetting all settings.
Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings. No data will be lost but ALL device settings will have to be entered again and that does take some to time to do that again.

  • Ipad2 screen locked / won't rotate / locked orientation

Just received my Ipad2 yesterday and found that the ipad2 has occassionally locked the screen to either portrait or landscape orientation(depending on which side you holding) when i flip my smart cover to use.
My ipad2 comes already with IOS 4.3.3
All orientation settings/buttons are in unlocked mode. it is clearly not user issue.
Although i can solve the problem by hard power off and power on back again, it will still occasionally happen.
    Anybody has the same situation?

You posted elsewhere in the iPad forums too and I answered you, but here goes again....

I have only recently got my iphone, and the screen won't rotate in Safari, the ipod, photos or messaging. It works fine in games (eg Doodle Jump). The screen portrait lock is off, and i have tried turning it on and off and updating it. Why wont it rotate?

Next step is to Restore it in iTunes from your backup. If that does not work they try Restoring it as a new phone. If still no go it is a hardware failure and you will need to get it serviced.
And you are not showing the hardware lock icon on the top right of the home screen?

  • My iPad mini screen won't rotate

Why my ipad min screen won't rotate.

If you see a lock icon in the upper right corner of the screen - then the screen orientation is locked.
Try the side switch above the volume rocker first and see if that unlocks the screen. If that doesn't do it, swipe up from the bottom to get to the control center. Look for the lock icon in the row of icons at the top. It will be the last one on the right. Check that to see if the screen is locked.
If the screen is unlocked but still will not rotate, reset the iPad.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the button

  • IPad screen won't rotate

I have an iPad 2, out of warranty, that won't rotate (one of 150 iPads that are nearing the end of their usage cycle and will be sold at the end of the school year). It is stuck in landscape mode and won't rotate to portrait mode. In an attempt to fix it, I've tried everything short of opening it up: I've done a hard reset, I've done a system restore, and I even ran the battery clear down until nothing would come on the screen when the power button was pushed. Nothing has made any difference. (And no, the screen rotation is not locked, and no, the side switch is set to Mute, not Lock Rotation.)
It makes me think the internal gyroscope is not functioning. Now here's where it gets interesting. I have downloaded the free Gyroscope app, on this and several other iPads for comparison. I can report two significant findings on the iPad that won't rotate properly: (1) All 3 axes of rotation on the gyroscope respond properly; and (2) the numbers on the defective iPad do not agree with the numbers on the other iPads. I.e., sitting side-by-side on a flat, level desk top, a "good" iPad reports Yaw: -173 degrees, Pitch: 0 degrees, and Roll: -1 degrees; while the defective iPad reports Yaw: 3 degrees, Pitch: 16 degrees, and Roll: -32 degrees. That leads me to believe that the gyroscope (or accelerometer) needs to be calibrated. However, I'm not aware of any facility for doing that. And furthermore, it's not clear that this has any bearing on the fact that it won't rotate.
So... any ideas or suggestions? I am not averse to opening the device up, if there is a replaceable part. I haven't been able to find any info about such a task. My only other options are, as far as I know: Send it to Apple for replacement at $249, or sell it at a discount since it is not fully functional. Thanks in advance for any useful ideas. - JR

Then you are not the usual user.
If you can disassemble the iPad 2 then you may be able to replace the small custom circuit board containing the gyroscope and accelerometer chips (if you can source the part).

  • IPad 2 screen won't rotate

I am setting up a new iPad 2 for my mother and the screen won't rotate. It isn't locked in the settings or on the side.

  • TS3274 My iPad screen won't rotate.. I have unlocked  at the volume button and on the multi task bar

Why has my iPad screen stopped rotating?  I have tried by using the mute button to unlock.  It says it is unlocked. But it won't rotate.

    1. Make sure the Side Switch is set to Lock Rotation: Settings>General>Use side switch to
    http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/ee374/Diavonex/59baf839.jpg
    2. Now check the Side Switch to make sure it's in the unlock position

  • TS3274 My screen on my ipad won't rotate

My screen won't rotate it is only sideways and won't turn horizontal

Is there a lock symbol at the top of the screen next to the battery indicator ? If there is, then depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (rotation lock or mute notifications), then you can lock/unlock the rotation by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad above the volume switch, or
iOS 7 : via control centre : swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen and it's the right-most of the 5 icons in the middle of it (if the icon is white then it's 'on', tap it to turn it grey and 'off').
iOS 6 and below : via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar.
The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085
If there isn't a lock symbol then try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • My iPad video screen won't rotate orientation?

iPad screen won't rotate when watching apple movies, still works for other apps etc???

Close the videos app in the recents tray and reboot the iPad.
Tap the home button once. Then tap the home button twice and the recents tray will appear at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • HT5858 my ipad screen won't rotate.  It is locked in the vertical position

Ipad screen is locked in position.  Won't rotate.

first go to settings>general, and look at the use of the side switch (if its for lock rotation just use the switch on the right side on top of the volume buttons- if not just go to the home screen slide your finger from bottom to top and you'll open a bar, and look at the lock with an arrow, if its high lighted turn it off.)

  • IPad screen won't rotate.the locks are not on

iPad screen won't rotate. I checked to make sure it wasn't lock. Can anyone help please

    Hi,
There are three things you can do.
    1) Check the function of the side switch - in the Settings app, under General.
    2) Try a reset by holding the on/off and home buttons together until the Apple logo appears.
    3) If this fails, take it to an Apple Store.
Hope this helps and Happy Holidays!
