Screen tearing, but only on Retina display?

Hello,
Here's the situation...
I'm noticing screen tearing, but only on my Macbook Pro's retina display, not the external display that's also connected to it.
Here's my setup:
- Macbook Pro w/ Retina Display (Late-2012)
- External Monitor is an HP w2007 (1680 x 1050) and is connected to my rMBP's HDMI port via an Apple HDMI-to-DVI adapter
- I'm running Mavericks
- Testing using www.speedtest.net
When I run the speed test on the w2007 monitor, everything is fine. However, when I run it on my retina display, the speed meter indicator needle always tears.
Is anybody else seeing this?
Can others, especially with external monitors, perform this test and post your results here?
Thanks!

Thanks. If I can't figure it out on my own, or with the help from this forum, I will do as you suggested.
To be honest, it's not affecting me that bad right now (I'm not doing a lot of gaming), but it bothers me that my superior retina screen is exhibiting tearing, but my old HP monitor is not.

  • Macbook air charges fine with the Thunderbolt screen connection but only sometimes with the 45 W chargers.

My Macbook air charges fine with the Thunderbolt screen connection but only sometimes with the 45 W chargers. It seems to be the combination of the chargers and the computer. I was thinking whether the Thunderbolt screen has a larger power supply which easier activates the computer to actually receive the charge. It reminds me a bit of the Nokia Lumia 800 telephone, which when totally exhausted needs a strong charger to be activated again. I am as frustrated as most others.  I have got two chargers, and both of them sometimes work, other times not. Sometimes, they start working after a while. Is Apple meanwhile coming up with a solution or advice how to handle such situation?

I just got my ATD and late 2011 MBP up and running. I've not tried running without the power adapter from the ATD plugged in, but I just tried and didn't have any problems with the display not waking. You may want to take your query to the ATD forum - https://discussions.apple.com/community/peripherals/thunderbolt_display - perhaps someone there has experienced a similar issue.
    Good luck,

  • How do i clean the screen of my macbook with retina display?

how do i clean the screen of my macbook with retina display?

To clean the screen on your MacBook, MacBook Pro, or MacBook Air, first shut down the computer and unplug the power adapter. Dampen the included cleaning cloth with just water and wipe the screen. Do not spray liquid directly onto the screen.
Important: The bottom case of the MacBook (13-inch, Late 2009) and MacBook (13-inch, Mid 2010) uses a soft nonslip material. Use a 3M Gray Microfiber or soft dye-free, lint-free cloth to clean the bottom case.

  • Loose Screen on Macbook Pro with Retina Display

I ordered my Macbook Pro with Retina display on the very day Apple announced the release in 2012; I received it about a month afterwards and I soon noticed that the screen was slightly loose. It did not bother me at the time because it jiggled only slightly, but it has been progressively getting loose to the point where it is really annoying me. I am no longer under Apple Care so I am worried that Apple will charge me an outrageous amount of money for the repair. Does anyone have a prior similar experience to tell me about how much it would cost?

Call your local Apple Store and ask them. Or take it in and they will give you an estimate. Cost depends on what is actually wrong.
Please make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service.

  • Screen information too small on Retina display

I am running Lightroom 4.1 in Windows 7 on a Macbook Pro with Parallels 8. The screen information and dialogs are so small I can't read them. I suspect it is a problem with the extreme resolution of the Retina display. Is there some way to increase the size of the text so it is readable.?

I don't know if it does, but as the software running on the Mac that could be aware of the Mac's retina display, Bootcamp should provide some sort of pixel-doubling compatability mode or something, right?
It still isn't clear why you are not using the Mac version.  Do you have a serial number?  Have you tried installing the Mac version and using the serial number to activate it?
If you're not sure of the serial number, anymore, you can try using the Belarc Advisor to analyze your Bootcamp partition and find various Adobe serial numbers:
    http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
And if what the school has provided doesn't use serial numbers, then talk to them about supplying a Mac version for you, then.

  • In Messages on 10.8, the "conversations panel" shows screen tearing on 15' MBP Retina

Like the title says, "Messages" on my 15' Retina MBP is having some display or graphical issues. Currently, When Messages is not the "focused" app, it will become scrambled and have many graphical issues. This only occurs in the portion of the app that displays the current conversations I am having, not the actual chat window. Has anyone else come across an issue like this?

    actually.... it doesn't.
the 1920 is simulated, and apple doesn't recommend it.
Apple doesn't offer the option of full resolution (2880x1800) and says everything other than 1440 x 900 won't look as good as 1440x900.
so while you can set the monitor to 17" resolution (1920x1080) it has to simulate it on a 2880x900 screen and has to blur and reinterpolate elements to make it work
they've really messed it up for anyone wanting true HD resolution for professional reasons.
Indeed. Everything except 2880x1800, which is unavailable without SwitchResX, and 1440x900, which comfortably fits one pixel of the image into a four pixel square of the Retina Display, must be simulated or scaled. However, while the scaling is real, the 17" "simulation" looks as good, to my eye at least, as my wife's MBP 17". Going smaller will test one's eyes probably as much as Apple's scaling algorithms so the tradeoff for greater screen real-estate may turn out not to be as bad as we'd think. All I need is a MBP Retina Display and SwitchResX to find out...

  • Screen on 15" Macbook Pro Retina Display.

I bough my 15" Macbook Pro Retina Display in August 2012. I recently noticed that when I open the macbook,  I can see the screen shaking everytime I move the macbook pro on the table. I can feel it loose and when I touch it I test if it is loose I can see like 1/2mm movement back and forth when it is open.
I don't know if it is just me and my OCD sense senses for this macbook pro.
I just wanted to make sure.
Does it get loos when opening after you have used it for more than half a year?
    Appreciate your oppinions!

Your appointment at the genius Bar for an evaluation is free, in warranty or out.
They can explain why it wiggles, tell you whether that is normal or not, give advice about what you can do to reduce its annoyance, and fix it if it is not normal. That is what they are trained to do, all day every day.
There is no expectation that every time you visit they will find a way to make money off you, like a car dealership.
The Genius Bar service exists because Apple wants you to be a happy customer, if possible. If you are willing to make an appointement and come to them (spending your time and energy to do so) they will work with you for nothing in an attempt to solve your problems, whatever they may be.

  • Projecting through VGA but only background is displayed

I have my Mac Book connected and it has a signal, mirrored is checked but it only displays the background picture and not my Imovie... I only see to make sure mirror is checked. Is there a function key I need to press or is something else wrong???

Hi Luis_66, welcome to Apple Discussions!
It sounds like your MBP is set to "extended desktop mode". What this means is that your Sharp is acting as an "extension" of your MBP screen's desktop. So, depending on your settings in the "Displays" System Preference pane, your MBP thinks that the Sharp screen is either to the right or to the left of the MBP screen. So, if you were to try to drag a window to either the left or right of the MBP screen (off the screen) it should appear on your Sharp. Same for icons. The MBP also has the capability of "mirroring" what is on the MBP display to the Sharp display, so that you would see the same thing on both screens. I believe this is an option in the same "Displays" area of System Preferences.
If you go to the "Displays" System Preference pane, you will see a depiction of your current screen setup, when the Sharp is connected. One of the two screens depicted in that window will have a menu bar and dock depicted on it. You can then drag that menu bar to the other screen, and both screens will refresh and your menu bar and dock will appear on the Sharp! You can also change the resolution and refresh rate that the MBP is outputting here. It should match the native resolution of your Sharp TV (should be noted in your Sharp owner's manual).
It's kind of a hard concept to explain! I hope this helps you!

  • Use the Data Table of JSF, but only titles are display, not data show

    Hi,
I create some simple example base on some of the tutorial online and modified myself to ensure no error. One of the tutorial that I refer is http://wiki.netbeans.org/DevelopJavaEE5App.
I really wonder why my data never show in my jsp page, only show the titles. Basically what I have done were:
    First create entity classes
    Second create SessionBean
Third create Controller - as JSF Managed Bean which is used to bind the data in JSP page
Last is create JSP page with Data Table to show the data
The customerlist.jsp has no error and display nicely with only titles.
    Pls advise.

I just figured out the problem. I kept pushing F3 and the window would come up, but I could not make it active. I then noticed the app was really minimized below the tool bar. I grabbed the app window and pulled it up - problem solved.

You don't say if your MacBook Pro is the new version that supports USB 3, if not the card reader will default to USB 2. The Ultra II is listed as 10Mb/s on old cards and 15MB/s on new cards, both within USB 2 specification. Extreme III are listed as 20MB/s old cards and 30MB/s new. These 30 MB/s maybe a bit too much for USB 2, not sure. see http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1111
If the Macbook Pro as USB 3 support it could be that it does not recognise the card reader as USB 3 and default to USB 2.
    See Apple URL http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5172?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
    Bullet point 11 may help.
Of course the card reader could be faulty and not read the Extreme III cards unless you have verified it working in other situations.

  • Thunderbolt display not recognized - but only after supper!

Ugh. Getting seriously frustrated with my 27" TB display, now. Have been using it on a MBP 2011 for a while, had experienced some flickering with Lion, not so with ML.
Last week, I left my MBP connected and went in for supper; when I came back, the MBP had - of course - fallen asleep. Woke it up, but only the MBP display came on, not the TB display. I unplugged/replugged, several times - same thing.
Rebooted the MBP, with the TBD plugged or unplugged - same thing.
    SMC reset - same thing.
I spent two nights reading forums and trying all sorts of fixes - no luck.
Finally, I resigned to booking an appt with the local Apple Store; this appt was for this morning. This morning, before getting the monitor out of the office, I decided one more time to connect my MBP - it worked!!! ***?
So I worked all day, no issues. Very happy.
Tonight, before going in for supper, I unplugged the monitor and closed my MBP's lid so it would go to sleep. When I came back, I woke up the MBP, connected the TBD, and...nothing. Black screen!! Went through a couple of rigamaroles to try and get it back - nothing!
    Argghhh!!
So now, I'm wondering if my diet has something to do with it. Tonight, I had T-bone steaks on the grill, with roasted potatoes and a salad. Maybe if I would have had pasta instead the monitor would have gone back on?
Any ideas, suggestions or magic spells would be greatly appreciated.
As would a fix from Apple...
    Jacques

I have been having the same problem since I got the **** Thunderbolt display and a lion-installed macbook pro in September last year. I've been sitting tight thinking surely Apple will fix this debilitating defect on their premium equipment -  How wrong was I!
My story is similar in that I always take the laptop home from work and have the Thunderbolt display in my office at work. I close the lid putting the laptop to sleep and pull out the cables. When I go home I may use the laptop via its internal display (one would think that would be ok) and then close the lid and put it back to sleep. WHen I return to work, plug in the cables and open the lid, most of the time the thunderbolt display stays black. On a rare occasion it will switch on but I can't fathom any pattern as to when and why it might work. The only solution to get the display to switch on is to reboot the laptop (and lose all my open documents from work the previous day and night). Recently, and I'm not sure what has triggred it, things have got a whole lot worse. Now, if I reboot the laptop when connected to the unresponsive screen upon restart the Thunderbolt display freezes on a grey screen and the laptop display stays black. The only solution is to hold down the power button and force shutdown the laptop. This happens everytime now, I simply cannot reboot the laptop with the thunderbolt display attached!
Nice premium equipment Apple! As this stuff was bought by my work I have learned to live with it. If had bought this junk with my own hard-earned then I would be furious and would have demanded a refund/replacement/explanation a long time ago.
Maybe, just maybe, Apple may one day actually fix this £2000 setup I have sitting on desk so that it switches on when its supposed to. Is that too much to ask?
