Screen Tearing/Pixelated into White Pixelated Startup Screen?

Hello,
Two days ago my screen started to really show some weird things, my screen would begin to tear/pixelate and show weird stuff, this happened more often when i scrolled the page. Here are some screenshots to show you what i mean:
Screen 1: http://oi46.tinypic.com/10ckhmh.jpg
Screen 2: http://oi48.tinypic.com/15bw3k.jpg
Note: This was not a browser issue, this happened all over my screen no matter what application i had open at the time.
So after this i tried to lower my screen resolution, in a wild hope that it would fix this problem, so i lowered my resolution from 2560 x 1440 to 1920 x 1440
When this happened my screen got white with a few black dots on it, i could move my mouse but nothing else, when i clicked somewhere with my mouse nothing happened, i could just move it around the white pixelated screen.
So i shut down my computer with the button, it was the only way i could do it, and i started it again, now my computer would boot up in this white pixelated screen and there is absolutely nothing i can do, i can't take any action or open any program or whatsoever.. Here's a picture of what i get:
Screen: http://oi49.tinypic.com/34q1vkl.jpg
So after this happened i tried booting into safe mode and safe mode works fine, no screen problem whatsoever, i tried looking for fixes to this problem and so far:
Things i've tried that did not work so far:
- Resetting PRAM (Command+Alt+P+R when booting)
- Taking the power out of my mac and holding the power button for 10+ seconds
- Hardware test (No problems were found)
- Deleting the file " /Users/<yourname>/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.windowserver.XXXXX.plist "
So any help would be greatly appreciated, i am at a lost here currently..
Thanks in advance!

UPDATE
I managed to solve my start up problem by deleting the file on my iMac HD instead of the /User/Myname Library. I am talking about this Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist"
So i can boot my computer into normal mode again so that's fine, however the first problem still persists
Screen 1: http://oi46.tinypic.com/10ckhmh.jpg
Screen 2: http://oi48.tinypic.com/15bw3k.jpg
And it seems like its gotten worse when i open big programs like Ableton (Music Creation) or Adobe Photoshop. So any advice here would be greatly appreciated

    > Where can I get some old drivers for the ATI Mobility Radeon HD2600, which I can install without starting windows?
Please dont understand me wrong but I think you are on the wrong way.
Device drivers (graphic card, LAN, etc.) have to be installed within running system (i.e: Windows OS, etc)
Im sure; driver isnt the problem if nothing is visible on the screen.
First of all I would recommend you to connect the notebook to an external screen/monitor just to check if something would be visible on the 2nd display.
But just one question: did you try to boot the notebook using a bootable disk (windows installation disk, Toshiba recovery disk or similar???).
Maybe the Windows system is muddled up and therefore you are not able to boot up the system? In my opinion you should test this option.

i've restarted my computer and unplugged/replugged all the connections... from what i've read on other posts, it may be the video card/ VRAM? is there any way i can fix this myself?

  • White blinking startup screen

When I shut down my iMac and restarted it gets past the apple logo then turns white and starts dimming and then getting brighter but will not go any further.
I tried to reboot in safe mode and it done the same thing.
I power cycled by unplugging the holding down the power button.
What is the problem?  I've never had this happen before. Please help
I have nothing plugged into it but the power cord.

Can you boot into Recovery mode by holding down ⌘R? What had you been using to make backups? Time Machine or some other program?

  • Startup Screen Pixelated - I really need help on this one.

    15" Macbook Pro - Spring 2011
My startup screen sometimes would be pixelated with the Apple logo and then would go to grey screen and do nothing... then I would be forced to shut down and power it up again. On two occasions, the bootup would have stripes on it. See photo.
And then the occasional lockup while working on something would happen and I was forced to power it down. This would happen periodically and not every day.
So... I had this problem a couple of months ago (for several months) and the Apple store kept my Macbook Pro for a few days and said there were reported no problems. They were clueless as to why I had the above screen show. They said... maybe it is a bad installation of the OS and that it got corrupted.
So a couple of months later and I am now I am having the same issues again. But this time, I had bought another HD and installed Mountain Lion on it... and I have it connected via USB. I had used it several times before last night when I held the option key down to choose my startup disk to be the new HD via USB. Then I get this pixelated screen again, but this time it was at the startup disk screen. See Photo.
It's like you have a car problem and you take it in to the shop only for it to not malfunction... I really need some guidance on this one. My AppleCare warranty just expired (was valid during my visit to the Apple Store)... And I am not a happy camper... I always use macs... and I teach everyone who has them how to use them.
So to be clear... This is the same internal HD that I had when I took it to the Apple Store. (Lion)
I installed Mountain Lion on a new HD connected via USB and have worked off of it for a few days with no problems, choosing it as a startup disk.
Last night booting with the option key held down I get this pixelated screen, whereas before it was never pixelated holding the option key down.
So I have a couple of questions:
Is the Boot Screen above run by the motherboard or the HD? If it is the MB, then I need to talk with Apple again.
Does anyone have any clue what is happening?I have reset my PRAM and switched out my RAM.
If this screen is run by the same HD in the laptop, then maybe I just need to take it out....?
I would appreciate any genius expertise. I am a little frustrated that I am having this problem and cannot narrow it down. I use my laptop extensively for presentation, graphics, and teaching and now I am afraid of it.

Your 10.7 EFI may be corrupted.
The way a Mac works is EFI is updated via Software Update, it's written to the OS X partiiton, then gets loaded into the hidden EFI partition and read/used upon the second boot.
So it takes two reboots to load EFI and goes into the EPROM boot memory.
My terminolgy might be inaccurate as I didn't take a Apple course for certification, but I understand a little about the boot stage from my Linux on Mac experience.
If your 10.7 EFI is corrupted on one drive, and you've got a 10.8 clean EFI on another, then it takes two reboots from the same drive to clear and use it's EFI into boot memory.
So if you've booted 10.7, then option booted to use 10.8, it could be the corrupted 10.7 EFI still in memory.
The way to fix the corrupted 10.7 EFI partition is a total wipe and format of the entire drive to catch the hidden EFI parition, then install 10.7 fresh and update.
Of course Apple made this difficult with Recovery Partition which won't allow a complete drive erase.
    However you can do this
    http://osxdaily.com/2011/08/08/lion-recovery-disk-assistant-tool-makes-external- lion-boot-recovery-drives/
There is also a way to install EFI firmware from a cd, however I don't know where it goes, reboot the 10.7 drive twice anyway
    https://support.apple.com/kb/HT1237
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL77
Since your out of warrantly, you might want ot just go ahead and repalce the internal drive and see if that fixes the problem.

  • White pixel appearing in screen in upper left corner when using fullscreen

    hi,
Whenever I use fullscreen a white pixel will appear in the upper left corner of the screen.
The pixel is also appearing in a screenshot, so it must be software.
Last week I did a clean install on my mac, and only put my files back (not the preferences). But I have the same problem again.
When I delete the loginwindow.plist and log off and in again, the problem is gone. But will reappear when my mac will go to sleep and wake again (or restart).
Can anybody help me fix the problem?
    Thanks!

I suddenly had the same problem (little white pixel in very top left of screen)
Resetting the PRAM fixed this for me.
    Resetting PRAM:
Start up computer hold down CommandOption+PR
    Hold until 2nd startup sound
    Hope it works for you!

  • White pixel band on my 15" screen

    Hello guys!
I hope you can help me because I do not know where to turn now. Let me explain my problem.
I purchased in the month of November 2010 my 15 "MacBook Pro (mid 2010, 2.4 GHz, 4GB of RAM). During the first year of use no problem, the mac worked great and I used it immediately as your primary computer ( traveling and living away from home was an obvious choice.) If at the beginning of the second year were presented serious problems, namely: continuous computer crash, that I initially tried to solve disassembling and exchanging of cards instead of the Ram ), irreversible damage to hard disk drives (internal and external) resulting in loss of critical data, partly recovered by programs such as Drive Genius. And a band of white pixels appeared on the screen (approximately 6.5 cm from the left side of the screen wide and about 4 cm), which is attenuated slightly shake up the screen. All these problems (in time of exams and work) have led me first to ask for help Aesse computer, Apple Premium Reseller of Catania, with whom we have tested the Mac for more than a month, and it was found necessary to replace the Main Board. same fate at the Apple Store in Catania.
After litigation related to Apple's warranty (the problem occurred in the second year and was linked to a lack of conformity), the Mac has been sent by the retailer Euronics (chain reseller Italian electronics) where I bought it, to its headquarters in Turin , where it replaced the Main Board. It's all right for a year.
To be noted that in terms of performance, the Mac is back to the first, but about two weeks the band reappeared pixels, giving me a few problems in the visualization and realization of the work (I'm a graphic designer). The Hardware Test does not detect any problems and the band alternates between moments of everlasting presence in moments of terrifying absence (for example, two days ago I had to present to a client a job with the **** white band, the first five minutes when he was absent ).
I did research on research on the internet but it seems this problem is far from common (the only loser I am, of course). I assume by contradiction that it is a burnt connector on the screen, because when the screen is slightly bent at the sides of the band fades or disappears (sometimes to reappear, sometimes to disappear), but would not explain why after repair (not touching the screen, but only the Main Board), the problem was not resubmitted immediately, but only after a year ... So, not being an expert, I ask you if you can understand what the problem is, because I have run out of options.
Thank you all for your attention

  • IMac screen pixelated and unreadable at startup...what's going on?

This morning when I started my computer for the day, I noticed that the wallpaper was very pixelated, almost like a transparent Photoshop layer.  When I moved the cursor all I saw was a pixelated box and I was unable to interact with any folders/icons.  I had to turn off the computer using the power button but when I restarted, the screen looked even worse - pink pixels on top and black ones on bottom.  I am having to use my iPhone to post this and while I took a few pictures of the screen I cant figure out how to post them here.  Another restart showed the same thing so I've left it turned off... It was behaving normally just last night!  Can anyone help me, or am I going to have to haul it into my local Apple store?  Thanks!

It's possible that the GPU is damaged. The only thing you can do is to take the Mac to an Apple Store or reseller, so they will tell you if it's a GPU or display issue and the cost of the repair

  • IPhone 6 screen white pixel (dead / stuck)...

I have a dead / stuck pixel in my iPhone 6 screen, It´s whiter on white background.
    1) Is there any way to solve this?
    2) Will this pixel interfere with the pics I take with the iPhone?
Thank you in advance for all your comments and help.

I can't see what you're referring to, but if there is a dead pixel, take the phone back to Apple and they'll replace it.  And to answer your question, photos would not be effected by a dead pixel on the screen.

  • My screen flickered and now all I get is black and white pixels - any ideas for a fix before I take to the Genius Bar?

MacBookPro is about 8 years old now so has had a good innings.  Last night the screen flickered, and then went off.  Turning Mac back on again brought black and white pixels - small rectangles all over the screen.  In background is little apple in middle of screen with the round rainbow timer thing vaguely visible.  This then sticks and I just have the pixels nothing else.
    Any ideas?
I have booked with Genius bar tomorrow but am feeling bereft!
    Thanks in advance.

It's certainly a hardware problem that only Apple techs would be able to properly diagnose. Keep your appointment...

  • Shouldn't Apple recall and provide FREE replacement for MacBook Pro screens with ghosting and dead pixel issues?

Read the forum posts, Google the issue, watch the YouTube videos on the problems; they are everywhere. I purchased a 2012 Retina MacBook Pro and the screen is riddled with dead pixels, white ghosting throughout, and image retention issues, all from a company that promotes the quality of the product they sell. There's no way this issue facing so many consumers shouldn't result in Apple replacing these screens for FREE.
I purchased the high-end machine for photo and video editing. Photo editing is particularly difficult when I can't tell if I have dust, dirt or colour shifts in my images or if it's just the screen overlaying these issues. I've never had so many issues with any screen I've purchased, from my Panasonic Plasma TV to my cheap ACER laptop. Please Apple, quit ignoring this issue.

  • Strange Pixel Design on Replacement LCD Screen

I just received, from a well-known Apple internet shop, a replacement LCD screen for my wife's Late 2008 MacBook Unibody. The screen was advertised and sold as new.
I installed the screen only to discover an obviously intentional pixel pattern had somehow been embedded into the screen's lower left corner. You can see pictures here: <http://www.animedix.com/clinical/screen/strangepixelpattern.jpg>
I'll request another screen as soon as the replacement parts retailer opens on Monday (it's currently Saturday evening), but I'm wondering if anyone has seen anything like this, and what could have caused that strange L-shaped pixel pattern?
BTW, I'm refraining from mentioning the name of the retailer at this time, assuming they'll promptly correct the problem.
    Thanks,
    JC

I have the exact same problem,
ordered a replacement panel from a certain website
when it arrived i noticed an identical pattern in the lower left corner of the LCD panel. it is slightly rotated compared to yours so I would hope I didn't just receive the panel which you have returned
it was (barely) visible even when the panel wasn't installed in the computer so it would appear as if it is indeed printed or even drawn on the panel itself (or on one of the layers within). mine too had greasy blotches on it. i'll be emailing the company soon for a replacement and hopefully an explanation -__-

  • Screen replaced due to dead pixels

I had my screen replaced under warranty due to dead pixels, the dead pixels are back but my laptop is now out of warranty. My question is how long is that replaced part guaranteed for is it still in line with the overall laptop warranty or as its been replaced does it have its own timeframe?
    Thanks in advance.

Thank you guy's for chiming in...
On 11/18/2013 when I took it into the store to have them look at it I remember the Genius teling me that they could have forgoten to change the "Boot Order" from "Wireless to SSD."
I guess they change the Boot Order to Boot Wireless first then SSD - they most likely forgot to change the Boot Order back to SSD first then Wireless which is probably what was causing all the problems I was experiencing from 10/31/2013 till 11/18/2013.
    - On 11/18/2013 I dropped the laptop off at 11:30 am and picked it up the same day at 8:30 pm; is this enough time for them to run all these tests? I don't know...
    - Could it have been a faulty SSD or something that wasn't seated properly during install? I don't know...
So far the laptop seems to be working fine - I have not experienced any problems that were present form 10/31/2013 till 11/18/2013. I have been using this computer and so far the  internet has not been acting funny nor has the world sign showed up on start up (cross your fingers) which is why I decided to run the hardware test myself.
I ran the Hardware test by Holding down ALT (Option) + "D" and it showed no hardware failure. Is this the same extended test they perfom at the store? I don't know...
On 11/18/2013 when I picked up the laptop thay told me that one of the memory's was not giving a proper reading and I would need to replace the entire logic board? So far I have not experienced any problems so I don't know why I was told to change the logic board....
All I can say is at this point is I am done dealing with this machine. Just going to sell it and move forward...
Be carefull and don't take the word of these Genisu's - do some reasearch yourself before you agree to thier repairs.. hopefully you guy's won't have any problems...
    Good luck and Happy Holiday's!
