Screen turns to blue-ish / MacBook Pro 17'' w/2.4GHz Core 2 Duo

Hello,
I'm using 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo 17'' MacBook Pro bought in 2007 or 2008.
Almost every time it runs screen saver, the screen turns to kinda blue-ish color.
Last year, the screen actually went out of control (a lot of white lines appeared all over the screen) and changed the motherboard.
But even with the bland new motherboard, the blue-ish screen problem lingers.
All I know is that opening the Display panel from the System Preference changes the color back to normal...
Does anyone know how to fix it or suffer from the same trouble?

Always "appears ok."
If an AASP or Apple Store is not a viable option, I would reinstall the OS. Try an Archive and Install. If issue persists, erase/zero/partition HD. Install fresh OS. Afterwards, do not restore from your backup, just use the basic installation and see if the issue persists. If it does, the issue is either with the OS install or hardware.

I want to known how to install windows 7 on Old Macbook 15'inch 2.3 Core 2 Duo by using usb
I try many time, but after restart bootcamp partition, apple show blinking folder error
I think this firmware not support to install windows by usb
    NOTE:
I Cannot install Apple New OSX Mountain Lion, Mavericks etc in this MAC
If I cannot install windows 7 on this MAC, so tell me what I will do with this MAC  ?

I agree with the optical drive, mine acted strange, and i thought people were crazy and my drive was shot, but a simple cleaning disc worked miracles.
But- are you trying to reboot with both the USB install and the DVD install both plugged in?  that would definitely cause confusion.
Do this, reboot with NOTHING plugged in.  Once you hear the Mac chime, immediately press and hold option.
You should only see the Mac HD, and Recovery Partition.
THEN plug in your external DVD, and wait a min or two, you should see a disc icon appear next to the recovery partition that says something like windows.  If that doesnt appear after a min or two, unplug it and put the USB stick and do the same thing.  I had to do it this way on my mid 09 MBP.
Let me know if this works to start the install.  If not we may have to start over with Bootcamp Assistant

I went to my local Apple store last weekend with a similar issue on my 2007 C2D MBP and they quoted me a price of around £60 (excluding VAT) to replace the optical drive. That's about the same price as the external optical drive a bought for my RMBP.
Alternatively you could just buy a 3rd party external drive if you want to save cash but note that the external Apple superdrive is not compatible with MacBooks with built in optical drives.

Click on the Apple and then on about this Mac. In the new window, click on the "version 10.9.2" until you see the serial number displayed.

    1. Make a backup, open App Store and purchase Mountain Lion. When its download finishes, close the installer and open Lion Diskmaker to create a bootable USB drive with Mountain Lion.
    2. Press Option key while your Mac is starting, select the external drive and open Disk Utility.
    3. Select Macintosh HD in the sidebar and erase the drive.
    4. Close the window and install Mountain Lion

System preferences and the dock isn't set up to start safari. Can't figure out why this is happening. Had reloaded system from scratch and noticed this happening lately.

Remove iAntiVirus, then reboot, see if it's better.

  • Will the ram from a "macbook pro 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo" work in a "MacBook Pro 2.2GHz Quad-core Intel i7"

I have a 2008? MacBook Pro 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB ram.  Can I use 2 GB ram from the old machine in a new MacBook Pro 2.2GHz Quad-core Intel i7 ?
    /bc

    Very likely not.
RAM gets improved over time like everything else, so if the RAM is too old it won't be compatible with newer machines.
TO confirm, use Crucial.com and punch in each machine, then read the RAM requirements and specifications, if they match, then your good.
But I'm willing to bet they won't be beause of the age difference between the two machines.

  • I have a MacBook Pro 3.1 2.4ghz core duo 2gb ram

Hi i am currently running ios10.8.5 mountain lion perfectly fine with no issues at all some people said i would not be able to run ml on this macbookpro without upgrading the ram etc just wandered if it runs mountain lion ok will it run mavericks ok.

You can run OS X Mountain Lion with 2 GB of RAM, but you cannot be sure that it will work correctly.
"MacBookPro3,1" belongs to the Late 2007 MacBook Pro, so it is compatible with OS X Mountain Lion. However, you say your MacBook Pro has got an Intel Core Duo processor, when it should have got an Intel Core 2 Duo processor. You can check which processor you have in  > About this Mac.
I recommend you to upgrade RAM. You can buy more RAM at OWC or Crucial.
The latest OS X version is Mavericks and it is free, so you may want to install it instead of OS X Mountain Lion. You can download it from the Mac App Store. If you want OS X Mountain Lion, you can buy it in the Apple Online Store > http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6377Z/A/os-x-mountain-lion

  • Will Lion 10.7.x run on MacBook Pro 17", MacBook Pro 2,1 with Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.33 GHz ?

Will Lion 10.7.x run on a 63-month old MacBook Pro 17", MacBook Pro 2,1 (2GB RAM) with Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.33 GHz ?
Currently running Leopard 10.5.8 and about to update to Snow Leopard.

It will run, if that's what you want. I'd think twice though. If you want to try Lion, upgrade your RAM to the max: 4GB's(Apple says 3, but your machine will run 4), however only a little over 3GB's will be able to be addressed(limitation of your computer). IMO, Lion needs a minimum of 4GB's of RAM to function properly. In your case, you'd be a little shy. I'd suggest you go to SL & stay there.

  • Macbook Pro 17" 2.8 GHZ Core 2 Duo, or MBP 15.4" 2.66 i7?

Basically I cant decide which laptop to get.
I can get the older version for 1299 or the new one for 1799.
I will be using the laptop for internet, music, little bit of basic photoshop, creating some music etc.. But nothing heavy graphics based..
What am I better going for, as im taking it that the i7 is really for the heavy graphic user to up speeds etc?
    Thanks

I switched about 7 years ago and have never found a situation where even a 2 year old Mac isn't as fast in use as anything but a blown out the doors gaming Windows box. Mac just seems to get up and running fast for some reason. Other than recently when good deals have caused me to flip 3 MBP's in about 5 months, the last one I had was 2 years and previous to that was 4 years. I only upgraded the 2 year one to get the unibody model. My main Mac Pro is the original 8-core model and I have no interest or need to upgrade it any time soon. My wife used her 12" Powerbook for 6 years before we finally upgraded her this year. Macs are like rocks, they never wear out.

  • Not sure where to place my SSD and HDD. Macbook Pro mid 2010, 2,4GHz intel core 2 duo.

I have a mid 2010 Macbook Pro 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo,
10gb of Ram...looking to max it at 16 even though apple says 8gb.
I upgraded to a Travelstar 1tb HDD 7200rpm max 6gb/s and waiting for my data doubler from OWC.
I am also hoping to buy an SSD. But Where should I place the HDD and SSD?
I read a forum saying that since my MBP is 2010, my HDD should stay in the main bay, and the SSD in the optical drive due to gb/s or somthing?
    Can anyone clarify?
I thought SSD would be better in the main bay and HDD in the optical.
I am thinking of getting the Samsung pro SSD 120gb? or the 228gb?
    Thank you

For best performance place the "system disk" in the internal slot and the second disk in the optical bay.  I assume your SSD will be your system disk.

  • When quitting firefox screen turns blue on MacBook Pro running OS 10.6.8

Just updated Firefox to 8.0. When I am shutting down MacBook Pro with OS 10.6.8, I close each application before shutting down computer. When I quit Firefox, the screen turned light blue. I had to force shut down the computer and restart to get any response. This problem had never occurred until I updated Firefox to 8.0.

hai. same problem. the system is still running (in the background, but you can't see anything because of the blue screen). i checked this by using some keyboard-shortcuts:
press SHIFT + CMD + Q and then ENTER for closing all apps and logging out. the log-in window appears...
or: press the POWER-button (short, once) and then ENTER for shutting down your computer normaly.
this is not a solution, but better than force shut down. so far... over and out.
EDIT: after updating all plugins (the only outdated was: flip4mac wmv plugin) it worked again after restarting the computer!

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion

I just wanted to follow this up by saying that you were entirely correct in your diagnosis of the situation.  My computer did have the faulty part you linked to.  I brought my laptop in and specifically told them to run that test, had it fail and then argued with the person at the genius bar and the manager.  Eventually they offered to have it sent out and have everything replaced for free of charge.  They did so mainly because I had complained about graphical issues almost every other time I had come in with problems and no one ran the test.  They should have caught this problem during my warranty, but they didn't, even though I mentioned the problem.
Anyhow, after having the part replaced, I haven't had my computer crash a single time since, or had many of the issues mentioned above.  I've never had this experience before.  Even brand new, I got occasional crashes.  Hopefully this new trend continues.
I do find that web browsing is still incredibly slow.  Web browsers just chug along at a slow pace, even though I have great internet speed.  Maybe I'll try just deleting my web browsers and reinstalling them...
Anyhow, thank you for your help and knowledge Clinton.

  • I just got  new screen put on my 13in macbook pro when i opend it up there is no data on it? how do i get my data back

I just got to school after getting a new screen put on my 13in macbook pro. when i opend up my macbook there was only a apple simble and the loading sing with a bar at the botton it took fovere to load, one it loaded and opend up there was a few options to pic from saying i could get all my datata back, i got confused and called the tec support where they wanted me to spend 90$ to back up my data, i feel as if they fixed my screen my data should be there when i go on it. I am a broke colage studend and need to get my work done. To sum it all up How do i get all my data back that happend to get lost while my screen was being repaird at the apple store?

Apple has a 90 warranty warranty on all of their repairs.  You should take your computer back to the repair shop.  Or call Apple Customer Relations (800) 767-2775.  Wait for a human to come on the line and ask politely and firmly that you want to be transferred over to the Customer Relations department.  Tell them your issue.

There's way too much blue in that green screen
    This is green
Try pulling down the spill level and reducing the spill tint. You're probably going to have to tweak the color selection manually.
