Screen upgrade?

I recently dented the lid to my Macbook Pro, and I'm thinking about upgrading my standard display for the high resolution display on my Late 2011 15 inch Macbook pro.
Could anyone give me a quote on how much this might be shopping with an Apple reseller, and whether the actual lid will be replaced with it?

That's a bit odd really, especially as they offer it as a custom option. You would think if it's bringing them more money they would allow for the upgrade!
I will ask at my local reseller though, they might be able to help. Thanks!

  • S431 Factory LCD Screen Upgrade / Swap from 1366 to 1600

Hi everyone.  My fairly new S431 Thinkpad's screen got bumped and internally cracked so I need to get a replacement.  The bezel comes off easily and it seems like the screen can be swapped out without dismantling the lower case.
I am considering buying to the 1600 screen to replace the broken 1366 that came with the Thinkpad.  Does anyone know if the existing LCD cable can be used or is a new cable required to support the higher resolution screen?  My understanding is that replacing the LCD cable will require dismantling the lower cover and hardware.  Both resolution screens have a 40-pin connector.
The T420 requires a different cable for the HD and HD+, but the parts list for the S431 lists only two cables:  one for the touchscreen version and one for the non-TS version.  Presumably the same cable should work for both resolution screens.
If anyone has a definitive answer on this I'd be grateful.  Thank you.

did you ever find the answer to your screen upgrade?  I have a S431 whcih im trying to install a 1080 IPS screen, but i can't get it to work.  Did you end up installing the 900x1600 screen?
    thanks,

  • EliteBook 8470P Screen Upgrade

    Hi,
I am going to buy the EliteBook 8470P with the standard resolution as this is all that is offered from my chosen retailer. However can I have the screen upgraded at the HP Service Centre in the UK to the HD+ option at a later date? Of course, I will pay for this as this is an upgrade not a repair.
Thank you, I appreciate your help.
    Kind Regards.

This is just a user to user forum, you will have to contact the HP Service Centre in you area directly to find out.

    I have a quick question
I have a 2 month old  IBM T500 and ordered it unfortunately with an LCD screen with 1200x800 resolution
    Type is LP154WX7-TLP2
I am thinking of upgrading to the 42T0423 screen with the higher resolution
    Is this technically possible?
It is very hard to get anyone to give me a clear yes or no and what it takes

    Welcome to the forum!
You need the SXGA+ cable for T42, as well as the matching inverter.

  • E540 screen upgrade possible?

    Hello all!
I am about to purchase an E540 laptop but I cannot find any store in Greece that sells it with the 1080p screen resolution. I was wondering, can I get it with the lower resolution and buy a higher res screen in the future to upgrade, or are they not compatible with each other? I am not interested in the touch option, just the higher resolution.
In addition, I am much afraid it will come with the British keyboard, which has a kinda stupid layout IMO. Will I be able to replace it with a typical American layout keyboard or are they, again, not compatible?
If the answer to any of these questions is yes, where could I get the replacement parts (preferrably in Europe)?
Thank you in advance for your help!
    Best regards,
    Dimitris

Hi there, I recently got a x201 tablet pen only enabled touch, and I was thinking on upgrading to moultitouch.
Can you guys give me some references on which parts y need to replace? is it only the lcd screen or I need brackets glass, connectors, bezels etc?

Those FRU you posted are correct. Good work checking the HMM
Keep in mind that different FRU's doesn't necessary mean different panels, sometimes they point to the same product (don't ask me why).

  • T410 Screen Upgrade

    Hi guys.
I was wondering if it's possible to upgrade the T410's screen from the normal Intel driven 1280x800 to the higher spec 1440x900?
My principal concern relates to the graphics chip. Will the higher resolution screen work with the Intel onboard graphics or was the higher spec screen an optional extra that worked in conjunction with a dedicated graphics chip? Also, if it is just a straight swap, are there any other considerations that I should be aware of and has anyone else done this before?
As always, thank you for your help.

    Yes!
Resolution is independent from the graphics card built in the motherboard. The easiest would be to swap a full screen assembly, but you can just swap only the panel as well. Make sure you follow the steps explained in the HMM: click me!

  • T530 screen upgrade

I bought my T530 about a month ago and  I got it with the 1366x768 because I thought it would be fine. I'm still ok with this but I'm starting to wonder if I should have gotten the 1900x1080 since I'll be keeping this laptop for a while. Is it possible to upgrade the screen now?

Buy a really big external display and plug into that. It will be a lot cheaper and better.

  • Screen Upgrade on T420 4177

    Dear Experts,
I have recently been upgraded by my company from a T400 thinkpad to a T420.  My one disappointment is that my T400 had a max screen resolution of 1440 x 900, but my T420 has the lower end screen and a max resolution of 1366 x 768.  I travel with this laptop often, so always have the luxury of a second monitor.
There is an upgraded screen available for my T420 model that offers 1600 x 1200 resolution.  So could I upgrade the screen on my T420 to the higher res screen?  Will the graphics card handle this (Intel HD Graphics 3000) as it seems like the same graphics driver whether it has teh low end or high end screen?  Or do I need to stay with the lower resolution screen?
    Any advice is greatly appreciated.
    Sincerely,
    Mark Farnan

    Hi,
Your words about the screen with 1600x1200 resolution as available upgrade for t420 sound a bit strange since this screen has 4:3 aspect ratio while t420 supports the screen with 16:9 aspect ratio.
Officially t420 supports the screens with maximum resolution 1600x900 (HD+) and LVDS signaling interface. Even if you'll find the FHD screen (1920x1080) I'm sure it will be a problem with that screen support in t420 BIOS. So, not a GPU or driver might be the causes.

  • Screen Upgrade 1366x768 TN to 1920x1080 ips?????

Hello! I'm consider swapping out my L540 1366x768 for a compatible 1920x1080 display. I'm pretty sure a TN panel will fit (I assume Lenovo don't make a different screen chassis based on screen type?) I'm just wondering if it's possible to replace the TN panel with an IPS one? I can see a few posts on the subject already but none I've found relating to the L540. Anyone managed this? Any issues? I'm very comfortable working on computers.

    Hi Happyjolly,
    Thank you for the response.
I had actually bought this L540 manufacture refurbished from a store after a lot of researching, hoping and believing that the IPS display switch might work... but it did not hence I have now sold it... I also have returned the IPS Panel to the online shop... however before returning I did some tests and found that when I connected the eDP port to the IPS panel and turned on the system , I could see the BIOS boot (Thinkpad logo) and the windows logo (blue square thingy with a black cross), but after that all I got is a black screen, so I left the laptop running, plugged out the eDP cable and put it into the original display just to see it come back to life with the home screen. I think this has something to do with windows or something else like TN being normally white and IPS being normally black etc, but I could not test any further.
I hope this experiment of mine proves useful to someone else trying the same thing.
Now I have sold everything and ordered a new Thinkpad T550 with a 15.5 3K IPS screen, Core i5-5200U, nVidia GeForce 940M, 8GB DDR3L, 1TB HDD, 24 GB SSD, backlit US layout keyboard. I certainly hope that the display will be really awesome on this one..
So that's the end of my experiments with displays (for now).. Rama Krishna signing out!

  • 6550b screen upgrade

Hi All, Apologies if this has been covered before but searching hasn't really given me the peace of mind I'm after.  Also, this is my first hp laptop, so familiarity with them isn't that great.  So,.... I have a ProBook 6550b, product # VZ245AV.  For the most part I love it....it does what it does without any fuss, and most importantly, without any noise, day after day.  The only criticism I have is with the display.  For the life of me I can't understand why laptop manufacturer's are so in love with the numbers 1366 and 768 !.  How can they call this HD ?.   I mean, I can SEE the pixels !.  Ranting aside, finding a 6550b with a HD+ screen is like looking for hens' teeth.  So I thought,... why not swap the screen out !?.  My question is, can I simply swap a HD 1366x768 screen for a HD+ 1600x900 screen ?.  And, assuming the connections are OK, will doing this tax the graphics chip unduly, causing it to heat up more, thereby making the  fan spin more, and thereby spoiling my valued serenity !?.    If anyone has done this, or a similar mod, I'd love to hear from them. Thanks for your time.

Thanks BH.  I was thinking more along the lines of http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161687573745?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT.  And yes, I really need it.  The 6550b sits alongside a Lenovo T400s.  Despite it smaller (14") size, the Lenovo's 1440x900 screen blows the ProBook's 1366x768 screen out of the water.  Still wondering about the effects on the graphics chip....I know the 6550b can come with a HD+ screen but does it have an uprated chip to deal with it.  Will my existing chip be able to handle the extra load?.

Please forgive the problems yesterday with posting. Every time I tried to post or edit a post, I was getting a server disconnect error, and it looked like only a couple of lines of text were getting through.
    Anyway...
I have a PowerBook G4 17" with the original 1440x900 display. I can't complain, I got the thing very cheap, from a friend. It was broken, the screen backlight wasn't working, and as I managed to fix it (shorting backlight supply wires), he let me have the thing for a very good price.
As I was looking around for potential fixes I found that there are various sites selling replacement screens. One of which listed a spare screen for my PB as Apple part 661-3764. Now this part is a 1680x1050 screen, unless I'm mistaken, and given that these screens seem to pop up now and then for not too much money, I was wondering about switching mine for one of these.
What I wanted to do first was to confirm whether or not it would work. The pictures I've have seen suggest that the mechanical fixings are the same, and that the connections are the same. So the only issue I can think of, is whether or not the machine and its graphics driver would cope.
    So the question is:
Can anyone here confirm that a Apple Part: 661-3764 1680x1050 screen work in my PB?
