Screen wakes almost normally, goes black, then wakes normally

Almost every time I wake my 15" unibody macbook pro, the screen will wake how it was prior to closing it, but I can't use internet. After 3-10 seconds, the screen will go black and then wake back up normally. Why does it do this?
I am able to use my computer normally when I first open the laptop, but the internet will not be working, though it claims to be working. It's like I open it up exactly how it went to sleep. Then, after the black screen flickers, everything will work fine.
Rarely, when I open my laptop up, the black screen is already there and nothing will fix it except for restarting.
Again, why?

FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
1. Turn off iPad
2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
5. Release Home button.
ON COMPUTER
6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
7. Select "Restore iPad"...
Note:
1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.
3. Repeat the process if necessary.

Ff comes on, I go to site w/ pics the screen goes black & then w/ with a bubble from the bottom saying recovery from igfx display failure..Chr & Op = OK

Firefox comes on, I go to a site rich w/ visual content & then the screen goes black & then white w/ with a bubble from the bottom bar saying recovery from igfx display failure..this used to happen on my Chrome browser (the Chr browser recovered spontaneously But I removed & reset it... still the problem went on & I quit using Chr for2-3 mos. There never was a problem on Opera. Hey! OPERA rule. As foe IE 8. That instrument is completely useless. Even all areon IE appears to be dead...Thanx!

Try disabling hardware acceleration in Firefox.

If you have not done a factory reset on the device, I recommend doing a complete factory reset.
Factory Reset - Warning this will reset device back to original factory settings.
This method will not erase any MDN/MIN information
Turn off the phone
Press Power + Volume Up/Down at the same time and hold until display will show a triage android screen
Display will show:
Reboot system Now
Apply sdcard:update.zip
Wipe Data/Factory Reset
Wipe Cache Partition
Use VOL Down key to scroll down to "Wipe Data/Factory Reset", press home icon to select option and wipe device.
Display shows "All user data will be wiped out", press VOLUME Up to continue or VOLUME Down to exit.
Press Volume Up
Press Home to select "Reset System Now" - device will reboot
If the problem persist I recommend having a store technician take a look at the device.

I have had Similar issues in my case it only seems to happen when the laptop is plugged into power. also if you shine a light through the apple logo on the front of the case you can see the LCD is actually running as is the OS it would appear the backlight is off. In my case I can resume operation by taping the F1 or F2 keys. All be it an annoying finx it is at least a simple one

I have an iphone 4 and all of a sudden none of the apps will work, except the ones that came with the phone. When I open them the screen goes black then it goes back to the homescreen.
Also when I plug the phone into itunes it only gives me the option to either restore or eject the phone. Up until today I never had any problems, I sync it regularly and all the software (inc itunes) is up to date. The last time I backed it up was about a month ago when I got the phone, (a replacement as my other iphone4 had loads of problems) so I don't want to have to restore it and lose everything off it!

Sounds like the device was dropped at some point and damaged as a result.
Take it to Apple for evaluation and a replacement.

Just updated to Yosemite on my MBP. After shutdown now when I login, it starts the process (the bar starts to move), then the screen goes black, then it asks me to login again and this time it is a successful startup. Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

The startup disk may need repairing ...
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utilities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click: Verify Disk (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If the disk needs repairing, restart your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you can access the built in utilities in OS X Recovery to repair the startup disk.

IPad screen locks itself and goes black when nudged? very frustrating

Hi, my IPad is driving me nuts! Can anyone help please?
I can be in the middle of anything ( games, apps, typing, banking, etc. etc.) and with the slightest movement or nudge - the screen locks itself and goes black??
I then have to press the home button, slide to unlock it - and it opens back up to exactly where I was.
This happens constantly, and is so frustrating!

Is there a case or screen protector that is possibly interfering with the proximity sensor (detects if the phone is near your face, allows the keypad/screen to be visible when the phone is away from your face)

To solve most of iPhone os problems you can perform a soft reset which will not change anything inside the phone
It'll simply remove the errors
To do that
1.Hold power button for 5 seconds
2.without releasing power button press home button and keep both pressed till the apple logo comes up
3.Now release both buttons
Your phone has now been reset

New iMac Can't See HD and screen goes black then grey then black..etc.

Hi I've got a new 20" Alu iMac and it was working fine for the past 3 weeks. All of a sudden this morning starting it up the screen went completely grey then after a while the apple logo came on (I thought it was eventually starting) then it went completely black (this is normal just before the progress bar jumps in) but this time it didn't! , the screen just went to grey again and the cycle started again and kept going on like this for an hour. I tried starting up from the disk the iMac came with but under disk repair i could not see the HD and trying to reformat the HD it was just named 'Media'. When selecting the drive to format an error came up saying explain it could not be formatted in the selected format!!! There is only 2 options to format the drive.. Mac OS Standard and Unix.. Both did not work. Any suggestions? Thanks

Before you do anything else, try charging via a wall outlet for a while, since its off. Then try turning it back on.
When you put the device into recovery mode it allows you to restore the device when no other options work. You do risk losing everything currently strored on the ipad itself. Hopefully you've performed regular backups either via itunes, icloud or both. Evern if you have synced content to either of those, you may not lose everything. All previous purchases have been saved in the itunes and app stores, so you can dowload them again.
while the ipad is off, press and hold the home button and plug the usb cord into the ipad. You should see a message pop up on the itunes window on your compoter screen that state it has discoverd an ipad in recovery mode.
You should now be able to restore

Everytime I Click On An App the Screen Goes Black then to the Menu

Everytime that I click on an app (except the preset ones from apple), the screen goes black (or to the initial start up screen for that app) and then goes to the main menu. HELP!

I've tried restoring it, AND removing all apps and putting certain ones back on. Neither worked.
