Screen went black while using voiceover

I rebooted, but the screen fades out right away when it starts up so I can't enter my passcode or get into the settings to turn off voiceover! Help!

Hi GSC818,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It seems like you want to turn off VoiceOver on your iPhone, but can't because the screen goes black.
If you can't access your iPhone, try disabling voice over using this method on a computer with iTunes:
Managing Accessibility features using iTunes
Connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to any computer with iTunes installed.
In iTunes, select your device.
From the Summary pane, click > Configure Universal Access in the Options section at the bottom.
Select the feature you would like to use and click OK.
From:
Use Accessibility features in iOS - Apple Support
If your screen doesn't return to normal after turning off VoiceOver, see this article for some additional troubleshooting tips:

  • Why did my screen went black while on FB? Now it will turn on or re-boot, Why did my screen went black while on FB? Now it will turn on or re-boot

My phone was working fine this A.M. and while I was on FB page it went black. I have tried turning it on and re-boot and nothing, just a black screen. Can you help me. The nearest Apple store is 2.5 hours away. Thank you

Plug your device into the original charger & block in a wall outlet and leave it alone for a couple of hours. Then, while it is still plugged in, restart it by holding down the home button and the power button for 10-15 seconds until you see the Apple, then let go.

  • Screen turns black while using safari

While in safari, the screen turns black & returns you back to home. Appears to only happen on larger sites with lots of data.  Getting worst now. Almost happens everytime we're in safari(WIFI). All other apps work fine. I have an Ipad (1). Cleared history & did latest update. Still a BIG problem. Any other advise. Please advise.

If you have cleared the history, cookies and data, you have pretty much done all that you can. Other users are reporting this same "crashing" behavior with Safari.
The only other thing that I can think of that MAY be of some help is to quit apps that are running the background. Few apps really do run in the background, but it doesn't hurt to try this and see if it does any good.
To close apps - Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus (-) sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Some have suggested that if you are using iCloud - try turning off Bookmark syncing and that has helped somewhat.
Apple has announced an update to the iOS that is supposed to be released soon, hopefully they will address this issue in the update.

  • Macbook air 13" screen goes black while using iTunes

I have an early 2014 13" Macbook Air with a 1.4 GHz Intel Core i5 processor, and I'm using OS X Yosemite 10.10.1. When I'm using iTunes, specifically when I'm watching a movie or TV show, the screen will randomly go black, but not like it turned off. The audio still works, but I can't see the cursor or anything. The only way I've been able to fix it is to completely turn it off (control+command+power) and turn it back on. It happens pretty often though, and as you can imagine, gets quite annoying. Is there any way to fix this? Thanks in advance.

  • Screen went black, now it's making noise.

My iMac screen went black during use.  When I re-started, it began making a roaring noise.  Any ideas what the problem might be?

The roaring noise is your fan, it's likely that your power supply has failed, usually it's because of bad capacitators,

My 13 month old Ipad 2 screen went black while sitting on the table.  NO drops or damage.  Tried both reboots, synced with itunes (it was there, fully charged) and rest to factory settings.  still no screen.  now the store wants to charge me a minimum of $80 just to look at it.  Any ideas?

Have you tried resetting your iPhone, press and hold the sleep/wake button and the home button for 10-15 seconds until the Apple logo appears, ignoring the red slider, then turn back on. You won't lose any data doing this.

  • Screen went almost completely black while using a app

I used a metronome app that is very good, but the screen went black, only the ipod bar at the top and volume working. Home button and sleep and turn off didn't work. It took a long hour before it got in sleep mode again, but when i slide to unlock, it went black again. Now didn't the volume button work, but the turn off button worked, but sleep didn't. And i held the button down until the power off came, but that froze when it came. So now the only thing that worked was the ipod bar. I had to wait until it got empty for battery. Any idea for what that could be causing this? BTW, writing this on the touch.

Most any factory authorized portable Apple repair facility (independent or AppleStore affiliate) should be
able to repair the defects in your machine after adequate and proper testing procedures are completed.
You can even send the machine away and have the repairs done, if there isn't someone locally available
to do this kind of work. I've sent machines (from AK) as far away as South Carolina for repair. And the
results were very good; and the machine was out of warranty. That was wegenermedia.com, but there
are others regionally situated and in other countries, too.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • IPad 2 screen went black all of a sudden while i was using it. what do i do

i recently bought an iPad 2 its been working fine since. but today i was using it  and i was putting an app in a folder then all of a sudden the screen went black, iv tried pressing the home button and on/off  but nothing works

Assuming that the battery isn't empty (and it can take up to 15 minutes of charging before it will respond), then have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds, after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • My macbook 2008 screen went black a few months ago. I've been using it with a monitor. Today it's working. I have a feeling it's going to die at any time. Is it possible that a software patch fixed this ? Is there a utility I can run to test the screen ?

    Model : Macbook 2008
Symptoms: The screen was, intermittently, going black last year and then went black completely. I have been using it on a monitor ever since.
I can see the screen with a flashlight.
I completely erased the drive and loaded OSx 10.7. I believe that's the last version of OSx Mac will be supporting on this computer.
When I booted up the computer this morning the screen came on !
While typing this question, my screen went black again, not to return.
    So sad.
I did bring it to Apple and they believed the entire screen needed to be replaced.
They say that they tried a new inverter and it didn't work.
I have a feeling I'm just out of luck unless I want to cough up the $300 to fix the screen.
Although it is a solid machine, 2Ghz processor with 4 gigs of ram, it is still six years old.
I imagine that's like putting a new transmission in a 95 Honda civic. Yeah, it's a reliable car but it's old and it's probably going to break again.
I love my mac so much but I can't justify buying a new one or  paying to fix this old one.
I have a Gateway dual booting Windows 7 and ubuntu linux that's actually pretty slick and has taken it's place on business trips and coffee shop excursions.
If anyone has any thoughts or feedback I'd appreciate it.

The current Apple hardware warranty provides the following coverage for replacement parts:
A replacementpart or product, including a user-installable part that has been installed in accordance withinstructions provided by Apple, assumes the remaining warranty of the Apple Product orninety (90) days from the date of replacement or repair, whichever provides longer coveragefor you.
Check your particular warranty and see where you stand as to the period of coverage.
    Good luck,
    Ray

    - Let the battery fully drain. After charging for at least an hour try here:

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Reset the device by pressing and holding the home and power buttons for 15-20 seconds until the white Apple logo appears.
