Screen went dark!!! inverter or backlight?
Hello everyone,
I have a Toshiba satellite L500-02H I bought the laptop in Canada so the model might have a different name in the US. Needless to say my screen just went black all of a sudden and I can barely read anything on it, there's still an image but as I say I can barely see it, I read on this forum and in other articles online that the issue might be a defective inverter or that my backlight has stopped working, I looked on some online stores and each part is priced around 15 bucks, I've seen videos of how to replace the inverter and that seems relatively easy but when it comes down to the backlight it seems a little more complicated, I have contacted a few places where I live in order to see if they could fix the problem and most of them are telling me that I will need a new screen, so I was wondering would it be better to buy a new screen and replace it or should I go by purchasing the inverter and black light and try to replacing those.....I would also like to know if anyone would know the correct part numbers for the inverter, backlight and screen for my model of Toshiba.
Thank you,
Mannie
As an update, this problem became increasingly worse. Two days after the first incident, the computer wouldn't display anything at all. After repeated attempts to run hardware checks, boot into windows, reset the PRAM it finally turned on for 5 mins, only to flicker on and off repeatedly every 60 seconds or so. It then turned off and I haven't been able to get the display back since (except for about 1 second everytime it boots up on the blue mac screen)... The weirdest part seems to be that it accesses the CD/DVD drive all the time.
I have now taken the computer to the nearest apple outlet for help... I can't believe this is only 1 month old! (The DVD/CD player has been crashing frequently as well - originally I thought it was bad CDs, but now I'm not so sure)....

Screen went dark/dim. How do I fix it?
2nd generation iTouch.
Screen went dark/dim (can barely read it under a light).
Any ideas on how to fix it?Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I have been attempting to wipe/erase the iphone 4S I recently purchased...for the past 20 hours....I went to Reset in Settings and clicked on "Erase All Content and Settings"....At that point the phone the screen went dark except for a white circular symbol revolving - indicating something should be happening....
The instructions indicated that, depending on what needed to be erased, the process could take several hours. Even though the device had a Tom Tom application with all the maps of Europe etc (about 2GB) and there were several other apps on the device, it does not seem to me normal that the device would be still clearing into the next day - today!
Can you please help!?
Richard W.Something has gone wrong. Turn your phone off, then force it into recovery mode & restore it:
Press the Sleep/Wake button & Home button at the same time, keep pressing until your phone turns off, then release.
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, iTunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new.
Make sure you have no anti-virus software running or any firewalls...turn all of that stuff off. -
My iPad screen went dark. it will not reset and is not discoverable on iTunes.
my iPad screen went dark. it will not reset and is not discoverable on iTunes?
Make sure it's plugged into power for at least 5 minutes, then try holding down the top power button and home button for 15-30 seconds. You may get it to reboot.

Try connecting it to your computer with the sync cable. I had a problem like this the other day shortly after updating to 4.02 and I "fixed" it by plugging my phone into my laptop.

I spilled some water on my laptop, the screen went dark so I turned it off. Now it won't restart.
Have I ruined it completely or will it come back on after it dries out?Take it in for repair ASAP. The longer you wait the worse it can get.

Honestly, I doubt anyone is really going to take the time to read the novel you have written. -
Imac screen went dark after power interruption any suggestions?
My son's imac screen went dark after a power interupption (someone turning the computer off by pulling cord out of electric socket) and I can't get it to go back on. I've already tried depressing the "command, alt,p and r" keys to get a restart, and while it did restart, still no picture on the screen. Occasionally you can see white staticy lines, but mostly it is just dark. I've seen the suggestions to update software and back up data but that isn't possible as far as I can tell because I can't see anything on the screen - it is totally dark! Any suggestions? He is coming home from a trip today and hasn't had any access to computer for some time - he is going to freak
First try iMac SMC and PRAM reset, please do each of them 2x. If that does not work then try restarting in Safe Mode, this will clear some caches. You did not mention the version of OS X running on the machine, if you are running Snow Leopard then install the Snow Leopard disc in the SuperDrive and restart, when you hear the start up tone hold down the Option key and start from the SL disc and run Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permissions & Repair Disk.

I was playing a game. Game response was sluggish. I pushed button to exit game and go back to main screen. Took several times to get a response from iPad. The response was a black screen with horizontal colored lines similar to horizontal roll on an old TV. Screen went black and will not come back on. Attempted sync, but iPad no longer shows up in iTunes. Help!
Have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds, after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

Help, I was working on my pc partition, using quick books and my machine suddenly freaked out. Screen is dark, backlit keyboard is lit and it is emitting a LOUD humming/buzzing. I can't reboot, turn it off, nothing. I unplugged the power chord in hopes that the batter will run out but what the heck happened and is my machine completely gone? Is this under warranty? I bought this thing in august of 2010 so it's not yet a year old.
HELP! HELP! HELP!Hold down the power button and it will shut down. Have you not read the User Guide? (Chapter 4).

I can barely see faint outlines of the desktop, and if I hold a flashlight up to it, I can see what's going on, but it's like the brightness just went all the way down and won't come back up...I've tried rebooting, I've tried F2, fn + F2...no luck.
Someone mentioned the light might've broke. Anyone ever heard of this? It's only about 15months old. I have the 3 year Apple Protection Plan, will Apple cover the fix? I've schedule a genius bar appointment.
In the meantime, using a flashlight and spare Princeton I was able to setup a mirrored 2nd monitor...
I never thought I'd be searching my Macbook Pro with a flashlight...spotlight yes, but not a flashlight!Restarting once resolved this for me.
Others have stated that resetting the PRAM has done it for them, but it didn't work for me. (search for resetting PRAM, it involves holding a combination of keys upon startup after the chime).
Oddly enough after two days of using a second flat screen monitor mirrored, the Macbook Pro screens light just turned back on randomly. I haven't had time to take it into an Apple Retail store yet. But if you don't have an protection plan, and are out of warranty, buy one now! We've had several hardware issues with the Macbook Pro, including dead fans, screen issues, HD problems, and have heard alot of people having motherboard issues.
You may just bring a second flatscreen LCD monitor, set the display options to 'mirrored' and pretend that you're using the second monitor to help your audience with visibility, or just comically explain that Apple Macbooks + Leopard seem to instigate strange screen-light problems.
Apple genius bar is Apple's retail technical support. You can schedule repairs online, and there's usually a 1-2 day wait. -
Iphone 4 screen went dark?
my ip4 has been dark for a couple days now. i am able to receve calls but i cant see the screen? any ideas on whats wrong
Reset, hold both home and power buttons for about 10 seconds until the iPhone begins to start. If still problem, restore iPhone with current iTunes on computer. If still problem, and if there is Warranty or AppleCare, make Genius reservation or set up Service and take or send to Apple for resolution. If no coverage, Apple will replace entire iPhone for $149. Or you can replace entire front screen assembly of iPhone.

i droped my ipod in a small thing of water and let it dry out now when i turn my itouch on the screen now is very very dark and the brightness is all the way up but everything else works fine any suggestions
Are you able to restart the computer? If so, then you can try: Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM and Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC). If the computer will not boot: Please make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service.
