Screen Whites Out

Hi All - I have an iMac 2Ghz intel Core 2 Duo. I think I bought it in around late 2007. I use it at home for web, music production with Logic, and a few other things. It has always performed flawlessly. Twice in the last week, the screen has suddenly gone completely white with lines down it. I have to hold down the power button and restart. I have a strong feeling this is a hardware problem as in both cases I was just using Firefox, not anything heavy-duty.
Anyone experienced anything like this? Is this unit on the way out?

This may be caused by a screen problem. Try connecting another screen to your iMac and if it still doesn't work, the problem will be form you hardware. This can be you Graphical Card.

Constant "not responding" and screen whites out

Ever since I've been using Firefox 3.5 or so (currently Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.17) Gecko/20110420 Firefox/3.6.17) I have constant messages in the window bar (Not Responding) and the open page whites-over and Firefox quits responding. it's happened 4 times while I've typed this far. It makes the browser completely unusable. What is causing this? There's also a little grey box up by the search-bar that has "2c" in it I never noticed before where logos for various browsers I've used in the past usually have a logo.

It still happens when I turn off all extensions and in safe mode. I have 3 gigs of ram, Win 7 and if Firefox is open the thing constantly does this white-out, not responding thing. Same browser on my eMachines desktop and Toshiba Satellite laptop with XP is just been fine. Upgraded it to FF 4 on less used eMachines Saturday, though I don't really like the look and feel yet. Don't know if this is a Win7 problem or Firefox. Another weird thing is that bookmarks imported from Toshiba now won't let me save new bookmarks. Usually truncates the folder I put new bookmark in. If the browser crashes on the Win7 machine, recent bookmarks just disappear. Sometimes even when I do a controlled shutdown, they still disappear. Is the install corrupted possibly? And is there a way to wipe and reinstall it?

Dropped phone now my screen whites out

Help! I dropped my phone :S The screen still works when the phone is turned off and on again but when it goes to standby mode and I try to use my phone the screen is white. Any suggestions?

Even if you don't say you dropped it, don't be surprised or angry if they can tell it has been damaged accidentally and tell you it isn't covered. They are pretty good at detecting phones that have been dropped or gotten wet.

White out on full screen

When using youtube and the BBC player, which utilisies Flash 10, the picture is fine when viewed in site, however when clicking to full screen mode the screen whites out. Sound is still present. I've updated the Flash version to the latest but the problem persists. This has occured in other applications besides youtube and the BBC site. Any ideas?

The answer is as Pat stated in Post #5
Go to any video, like youtube and right click on the video and click on Settings. Display Settings is where you will UN check hardware acceleration.

Hold Sleep and Home buttons for 10 seconds until your device restarts, so you will be able to use it again.
You need at least 50 MB of free space to back up onto iCloud. Open Settings > General > Usage, and remove applications that you do not need

I got white out on my screen! Acetone took it off desk. How off my screen

A container of white out exploded! It splattered my screen and my wooden desk. It was really stubborn to get off the wood, and I had to rub hard. What do I do about my screen? Thanks for your help.

Use of acetone on your screen is very likely to ruin it completely. If just plain water won't remove the whiteout, try a cleaner certified for LCD screens such as the one from Kensington. I've also seen mention that lemon extract works as may Goo Gone, but for either of those, use a very small amount on an inconspicuous corner of your screen first to make sure the solution doesn't damage the screen surface.
And of course whatever you use, don't use so much that it runs down inside your computer. That could easily lead to disaster.

I've had a similiar problem. I once tried connecting my player to a stereo system using someone elses stereo and audio cables. I connected the cables to the headphone jack and watched as my creative zvm sort of freaked out and went to the fm radio screen. However, a few seconds ago I tried this once again using my own cables (exact same type as my friends audio cables, just a different brand) and was able to successfully connect my player to my stereo reciever and nothing went wrong. So the only differences between these two attempts were the cables (which as far as I know are the exact same thing, just with some minor cosmetic differences, both had a standard audio jack that fit the headphone connection, and both split into two auxiliary connectors for audio, one red, one white), both went through different stere recievers, and I had upgraded my firmware since that last attempt.
When I first tried it and the player freaked out I wondered if it was caused by some complication due to the feature that allows you to have a wired remote control. But since it works on my setup I'm not too sure about that unless that was somethign that got fixed with the latest firmwware release.
And this is something I tried while writing this. I went into settings, went to audio/video settings and turned oof the Video Out option. Connected my usb dongle (that came with my player) to my player and connected my video cables to the player and connected the white and red connectors to my reciever. The screen stayed on and audio played through my stereo. Even with Video Out on music still played but obviously the screen turned off as it switched to A/V Out mode.

Iphone 3g white out

Hi everyone,
I got a problem with my Iphone 3g 16gb model. Sometimes the phone is white out. I did restore a couple times but does not work, it still happen, not much but really annoying. I came to apple store (CA San Diego Fashion Valley) and talked with tech support at genius bar, a guy said the cable connect to the screen loosing,and he fixed it, however everything is still the same and i went to apple store again, the tech said at first he said just sit and try and do whatever i want if the screen happen again he will fix it( are you always with me all the time to do that? <----- i asked???) and he came with another solution just squeeze the screen when the screen's white out( apple company make iphone to squeeze every time it white out . Just wonder what do i have to do? could give me some advice? live with the iphone white out sometimes, or go to tech support hope them gonna fix this problem again (???), or throw the phone away and find another iphone.

if its still under warranty then yes a loose cable would be covered (if it just loosened on its own)...
when you go back to the apple store explain you have been in several times and it is still happening and perhaps they will swap it out for a service unit!

Why is my screen white?

my screen just went white out of no where and i cant shut it off

It is white because something is wrong with the iPOd
Now to try to fix, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an hour try a reset.
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Then, if necessary, connect to your computer and restore.

My Mac screen blew out and is frozen

After the first few screen freezes, the screen would be pixelated and I had to unplug my computer and restart. It would turn on successfully but my whole screen would have little pixel squares. I ignored that fact and was just happy my computer turned on. Moments later, my screen blacked out and I tried to do the same thing. Only this time the screen stays on to the open apple screen with pixels everywhere.. I don't know how I can solve this problem or if it can even be solved..

I can't run the hardware test or do anything at all.. I turn my iMac on and it goes I a white screen with the apple icon and then goes to a blank white screen. I would like to get it checked out but the nearest apple retail store is 2 hours away..

Screen blanks out when pushed tilted beyond 90 degrees

HP Pavilion 4t - 1000, Vista OS. Screen blanks out when pushed beyond 90 degrees, i.e., vertical position, , No change has been made in software, battery run down and has been replaced with identical battery from HP.

A very high percentage of the time this is from a punched or crushed cable that leads from the mother board, through the left hinge and up to the top of the screen in the back. I got a cable from China off eBay for $4.99 + $2.99 out of country shipping (from China).

Ipod touch 4g screen popped out a little, can I get it replaced?

so my ipod touch's screen popped out just a little. I can see the white light underneath along the top of one side when its unlocked. It works perfectly though. But I want to get it replaced or covered somehow so it won't get worse. its within warranty so will they fix/replace it if I go to the iStore?

If the iPod is in warranty, defective, not abused and is other than a cosmetic defect, Apple should exchange your iPod for refurbished one. Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

Screen goes out when cover opened

I have a white Macbook. When I open the cover the screen goes out unless it is held at a certain angle.

It's one of four things and the liklihood in this order:
1) Inverter Cable
2) Inverter
3) Screen
4) Logic Boarad
If you're Macbooks under warranty take it to an Apple Certified Technician (Apple Store) and have them take a look at it. If not, and you can't afford to repair it, you're welcome to take a gander at repairing those parts. If you have the time, and can figure it out, try opening up the chasis reconnecting to cables to the monitor, as on some laptops they're taped on and eventually come lose.
This will likely void any active warranty.

Possible e17 issue: resizing windows causes "white-out"

not sure where this problem fits in the categories of the forum, so I figured I'd drop it here... I'm running e17 and recently I started experiencing a "white-out" problem whenever full-screening or resizing windows... so far, the only program that doesn't seem to suffer from this white-out is Opera... I'm not sure how to reproduce this error for anyone either... once the whiteout occurs, the window becomes generally inoperable (I think it's a screen draw issue, because if I know where things relatively are or should be, I can somewhat use the window... so the operations are all still there, I just can't properly see the window itself... closing and reopening fixes this, but nothing else works. Running via console does nothing as well...
oddly enough, when using gimp, resizing the image window doesn't affect the option windows that are also open... also, when opening xfe and resizing, the main window gets the whiteout effect, but when I close it, the dialog box that asks if I really want to close it looks completely normal... Please ask whatever questions are necessary to fix this issue... I'm thinking it may be an e17-only issue, but not sure... plan to log into xfce as well to see if I still experience the same thing...
ANY feedback would be nice...

I have the Early 2009 white Macbook and just began this same ordeal a few days ago. Nothing out of the ordinary to cause it, seemingly. I spoke with the authorized dealer here, and they told me it could be the display at $300 to repair, or anything else for less. Very frustrating.
I can lower the brightness to 0 and then increment 1-2 notches before it goes black again.
Lion 10.7.3
2 GB Ram
Core 2 Duo
Any help?
