Screen won't turn on (New iMac Aug. 2007)

I've been a Mac User for almost two decades... I have had my Power Mac G4 dual 800 Quicksilver since the day it was launched and I've loved it ever since. Recently it was starting to show it's age in that it couldn't handle my ginormous music and video collection. I waited and waited and waited, religiously checking rumor sites for a release date for the new iMac. The day it was released, I was the first person in Madison, WI to buy one.
I was ecstatic. I immediately transferred everything from my G4 and haven't looked back. Well... At least that's what I tell most people. I've actually grown to miss the reliability I had with my G4 tower. This iMac has been far from impressive. Sure, some programs run a little faster, but my iMac freezes at least once a day. It's very annoying. It also takes forever for it to wake up from sleep. I try to wake it and it goes to a blue screen for about 2 seconds, then goes black, then it finally wakes up. It just acts a little awkward. Lots of other little issues as well, but kind of unrelated to the matter at hand.
Anyway, tonight, my iMac was fine. I was playing an album in itunes and then sat down for dinner. When I returned to the computer it was 'sleeping', with the music still playing although the screen was black. This is normal, I understand that, just saving the display from unnecessary wear and tear. The problem is that when I tried to wake the computer up, it would not wake up. It continued to play the music and would not illuminate the screen. "OK" I thought. This has happened before in the past two weeks, so I would just restart the computer by holding the power button down. So I did that. I heard the start up chime. I waited. I waited. Nothing. The screen stayed black. So I restarted again. Still a black screen. I unplugged everything, keyboard, mouse, external drives, speakers, ethernet, everything. I restarted. Still a black screen. I tested the volume buttons on my keyboard and yes, I heard the volume adjustment. So the computer is on, it is running, but the screen will not illuminate. This is extremely frustrating. Can anyone help me, and I would really prefer not to have to reinstall OSX because I have stuff I don't want to lose...

If you haven't enabled login permission, then you won't be able to remotely access the iMac. Without that and the screen illumination you cannot back up anything.
I believe it's still possible to start the iMac in FireWire Target Disk Mode and mount its hard drive on another Mac running Mac OS X 10.4.6 or later.
Sorry to chip-in with my own query but does anybody happen to know if it's possible to start-up a Mac with another Mac ... i.e. via a wireless network? - from powered off to powered on?
Start a Mac from another Mac… I doubt it. From a wireless connection? Impossible. When a Mac is powered off, all its components (including Bluetooth, wireless, IR) are off too. If any connection could start a Mac remotely, it would have to be wired.

What's the error message say, exactly? Does the error occur when you sync, or when you just connect it? Does the iPod appear in the iTunes sidebar (under DEVICES), or does this error occur before that can happen?
I have an old 4th Gen (color screen) iPod, which should be the same as an "iPod Photo." It's been sitting idle for a while, but I just connected it to my iMac running Mac OS X 10.7 and iTunes 10.6.1. I think it's the first time I tried since upgrading to Lion. It connected and synced fine using USB.

Proximity sensor not working correctly...screen won't turn back on!

Alright so I'm loving my iPhone 4, but I've been having one glaring issue: the proximity sensor turns off the screen during a call(as normal) but then the screen won't turn back on until I lock, force hangup and lock again. Very frustrating because I was unable to dial a number to be transferred while in a call. Seems like the same issue is going on with other iPhone generations upgrading to iOS4 in the other forum sections, but I'd never think it to happen with a brand new 4. Could it have been my restore file from my 3GS?

Z1 compact. Screen won't turn on

Recently updated to Lollipop OS. My problem is my screen won't turn on automatically when there is new messages/ notifation. I had to hit power button to view notifications. Except for downloading notification app, which helps drain my battery, any solution?

Let me understand this, because your first post said that your phone used to turn on the "screen" when you received a notification, the phone didn't, the only way to do this is through a third party app. Now you are saying that the issue is the notification LED that its not turning on? do you have the phone on stamina mode? silent mode?

Hello, my name is Bryan.
I've got a problem with my iPhone 5s. I opened my iPhone to fix an issue with the home button (Watched a guide on youtube on how to achieve this), and I connected everything as it is supposed to go, my home button is working but now my screen won't turn on or the phone won't play any sounds. I know the phone it's on because I can connect it to the computer and the computer recognizes it. Also, I tried calling it, and it rings on the phone I am calling from, but my iPhone simply won't play any sounds...
I am also sure the phone is not in DFU mode.
Any help?

It's broken due to neglect, namely being dropped. Replace it.

My Blackberry Curve 9380's display screen won't turn on! The flashing red light still appears so I guess I am still able to receive texts. I can also receive calls; my ring tone goes off but I cannot answer! I have to unlock it and I can't do anything on a touch screen that's virtually useless now. I've done so many battery pulls yet it doesn't work.
I did drop it but it wasn't very hard. My bb fell when it was in my rubber case and the fall was around knee length (I am very short only 5'0). My friend said its possible that the backlight broke. If it is true, how much does it cost to repair it? My warranty expired a few weeks ago...
My friend also said there could be something else wrong with it. Like a downloaded an app that had a corrupt file (this has happened to me before and the phrase "Uncaught exception java.lang.error" kept popping up every time I did a battery pull) or a programming error. I tried Jl_Cmder and I've done reset to factory. I've even tried to wipe everything completely. "The device will reboot to a white screen with a '507' error" this didn't happen... It did reboot but nothing can be seen. I regret it deeply ...

Ouch, that doesn't sound good. Even though it's out of warranty, you should check first with your mobile provider for a repair estimate.

My screen won't turn on even though i recieve calls, can charge it...

It seems kinda weird but things happened this way:
I bought my iphone5c 3 days ago and everything seemed right. Today I was playing some ****** game on it when i suddenly decided to lock it and keep it in my pocket since i was in school. I did. When i tried using it again, the screen won't turn on. The thing is: everytime I try changing it from loud to silent and viceversa, it does vibrate. I called my number from another phone and it does ring and vibrate, but the screen won't turn on. I connected it to the computer and to the charger, and both make that little sound when they're connected to something. The screen didn't turn on in any of those actions...
As i told you, my phone is 3 days old. Hasn't been ever hit, exposed to water or anything like that...
What the **** can I do? I feel kinda betrayed with Apple, since i bought this device 3 days ago.

Beeping sounds usually indicate a RAM or logicboard problem.
If you have third party RAM recently installed, put the factory RAM back in.
Use the free MacTracker to find out your correct RAM spec and return the defective RAM for a exchange or buy top tier RAM from Crucial.com or OtherWorld Computing.
If you didn't mess with the RAM, take the machine to Apple for a free eval.
You might want to read this if the repair bill is not worth it.

MY screen won't turn from sideway to straight up. How do I get it todo that?

Make sure the rotation lock isn't on.
Double tap the Home button and then swipe to the left to make sure the circular arrow doesn't show a lock.

Yes there is a rotation lock setting.
First try the switch above the volume rocker. If that doesnt work then double click the home button. It should display a multitasking bar at the bottom of the screen. Slide that to the right and it should display a few settings including screen lock. Make sure that it is unchecked.

It won't turn sideways if you're on the home screen, and certain apps only have the option to work in portrait mode.
Is orientation lock on? Is the screen not rotating in apps that worked before?

Since the screen can't be turned on, how do you know that the phone still works. Is there enough power in your iPhone? I think you need to connect your iPhone to an outlet to see whether it can be charged or not.

How do you know all files have been removed if the screen won't turn on?
You can try a reset, hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up.
