Screen won't wake up after sleep mode

I bought the new Macbook Air 13" a month ago, and I got a problem with my screen display recently. This is the second time in a week. It went to sleep mode and when i opened the lid, the screen was still black as usual and no matter what i pressed (I tried touching and clicking the track pad as well), nothing happened. So i ended up pressing down the power button to restart it. The only thing I could do was to report this problem as it just turned unresponsive after the sleep mode.
Has anyone encountered the same problem as I did?

I'm having this exact same issue with my wife's 11" MacBook Air (July 2011) we just bought it last weekend and she's frustrated with the issue.
I have none of these issues with my 13" MacBook Pro (March 2011) which frustrates her even more, she wanted the Air because of the portability, but she's not very happy with this issue.
I imagine if it were a bug with Lion it would be present on my MacBook Pro, right? so I can only think is a firmware issue.
Hope Apple releseas a fix very soon!

  • Memory RAM upgrade won't wake up after sleep mode

i just recently purchase a pair  16GB RAM of crucial  CT2K8G3S160BM for newegg.com. Yeesterday i try put this on my macbook i7 intel 2.9 processor that crucial said is compatible. but found out everything was good until i close my mac lid for hibernate. What happen is, it won't wake up no matter what i do until a way of reset SMC. BTW i try stick by stick to plug in together with my original 4gb RAM together found out 1 was ok and other one was not. But somehow why the info of hardware show that memory ram 16GB was installed and was OK. Everything was run smooth even booting. The only problem is won't wake up after sleep mode. I already try reset smc, pram, delete startimage, delete powermanagement.file and also sudo hibernate 0-7. Did anyone had this same issue of me. I'm my curiousity will it be the bad ram or software problem.

i just google around and found this two both crucial ram. Both spec are the same but different model no.

  • Monitor won't wake up after sleep mode

Does anyone know how to fix the monitor, so it starts up after sleep mode? When my computer comes out of sleep mode the monitor doesn't always come on. Does anyone else have this problem and do you know the cause? The computer is only a few months old and hadn't had any problems.
    Thanks,
    Shaneil

Well my solution may not be the most cientific one but it works for me (at least until the real solution comes to the public)...
My computer has the problem that when it goes to sleep mode she never comes back... but it the screen that does not comes back... all the system is workin in behind (its like the brightness level was set on the less power possible) so i had to turn off the computer and had to do for a long time some times i had to wait that the computer cooled off a little and then try again to turn it on... I some tried things that the support page of apple said it could be... but did worked out... i dont know i think is a problem over 2 factors...
    1. heating (the screen generates to many heat but, TO MANY!)
    2. tiger os the OS "sleep mode" (it knows that the screen its heating a lot and tries to go to sleep to prevent over heating and damage)
So based on this i tried conecting a external monitor to the computer while she was unable to "awake" (or to show some thing in the screen)... and it worked whit no problem at all... so my conclusion was to prevent the over heating (1st factor) and the sleep mode (2nd factor)... so I deactivated the sleep mode setting up the computer to a never sleep mode... and to prevente the over heating well I use a low bright and when i need more brightness (to se the colors of what im doing or some thing like that) I use high brightness... when I away I set the brightness level to no brightness so there is no over heat and no sleep mode (cus if it is deactivated and it over heats it will go to sleep anyway...
    Soooooo....
    1. deactivate Sleep mode...
    2. Activate a Screen saver...
    3. And remember to contro your brightness your self... and turn it off when you are not using your computer...
well i hope it works for some body :P cya...

  • Nokia won't wake up after sleep mode! ( Work aroun...

WCH1.... Posted this in my first thread
Found this somewhere, and it worked for me.
    Freezing in sleep mode:
Go to the device manager (you can go to control panel and click on SYSTEM and then device manager will be in the upper left corner). Go to the very bottom and find Universal Serial Bus controllers.
Click on the arrow next to it and it will reveal 2 "USB Root Hub" devices. Double click (or double tap).
On each one, choose Power Management tab from the top. Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". Then click on OK.
Be sure to do this on both device ISB Root Hub listings. ( The Credit is not mine) but much needed because they keep posting in my first thread !

  • Macbook pro screen won't wake up after sleep

I'm having a strange problem that just started today.
I close my macbook pro lid and put it asleep. Then when I open the lid the keyboard lights up. The screen comes on for about three seconds and everyone looks fine then the screen goes to sleep again. If I close the lid and open it again it comes on for 3 seconds and goes to sleep again.
Occasionally I can get it to stay on hitting Function and brightness keys. But just as often it takes a hard reset to get things working again. But then if I close the lid and open it the problem starts again.
    Any idea?
I'm running the lastest Lion update.

thanks. obviously i'd like to avoid such a time-intensive move before looking at other options.
To make things more intresting I've fund it ONLY does it when plugged into a charger.
AND if I briefly unplug the charger after the screen comes up black it immediately wakes up and stays on.
    weird.
I've reset the SMC. But still get the same issue (if plugged in).

  • Won't wake up from sleep mode

I have only had my iMac for a couple weeks and four times now it won't wake up from sleep mode. I have to use the on/off button for a response.

Since you have a new machine, I would call Apple immediately and have them deal with the problem.

  • X1C won't wake up from sleep mode using keyboard

Hi...so finally got my X1C today. One thing I am noticing is that the machine won't wake up from sleep mode when I press any key on the keyboard -- it only wake up by pressing the power key. This is a bit unexpected to me. Is it by design, and is there any way to change this?
    Thanks for your help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Does it awaken from stand-by if you press the Fn key? That's been the ThinkPad standard for as long as I can remember.
    Regards.

  • Macbook Air 2011 won't wake up after sleep

My Macbook Air 13" 2011 won't wake up after sleep.  I've taken it to apple genies bar, but they offered to replace my logical board!
I bought the Macbook Air in last August.  Why cannot they replace a new laptop???

One thing you want to do is "Repair Permissions" in Disk Utility before you upgrade to a new revision, and afterward do the same thing.
On occasion files will become inaccessible to the logged-in user and cause certain components of the OS from acting cooperatively. This can most often happen during/after an update. Also, by resetting permissions before an update, it is to ensure that the update process itself can accomplish all tasks.
You may also want to consider applying/re-applying the downloaded 10.7.3 "Combo Update" from the Apple.com/downloads/ section. After resetting permissions, of course.

  • 1G iTouch won't wake up after sleep

1G iTouch won't wake up after sleep. When I plug it back into my laptop it does a complete reboot. Tried both reset and restore. Works fine as long as plugged in. It shows a full battery and drains properly but once it goes to sleep it acts like battery is fully discharged.

Is the iPod or the laptop going to sleep?
I can't tell for sure from your post.
When you restored, was it "as a new iPod" or from a backup?
What software is on the Touch?

  • X505-sp8915r wont wake up after sleep mode

My laptop wont wake up after sleep mode (suspender). The laptop does everything it should like the red lights go off but when i hit the power button just the power red light goes on... The keyboard backlights if I try using it but the monitor wont show anything and the hard disc red light doesn't even blink.
Hibernation seems to be working fine. I had to change all that will make my computer enter sleep mode to hibernate. But I would like to get that fixed. I read something about the bios and my version is "BIOS Version: V1.40. 12/04/09.

The BIOS is up to v2.2 now. It's possible that will help.

  • Does anyone know what to do when a apple mac book pro screen won't wake up from sleep?

Does anyone know what to do when a apple mac book pro screen won't wake up from sleep? I have tried to restart it and it still won't come on.

Try this, which is located in your macbook pros user manual.

  • Can't wake up after sleep mode

Mac owner for 2 months now and have had no problems till today...had to reboot to wake up from sleep mode...one time occurrence or start of an issue?

That's an important one.  Let it finish normally until you are fully rebooted and things are stable.
Whenever I get a firmware update like that one, I follow nine steps to ensure my computer is in top shape. Basically, they represent checking the disk for errors, fixing the errors, fixing the permissions, and setting the default memory values to whatever was in the firmware.
    1) shutdown the computer
    2) push the power buttom and as soon as you hear the chime, hold the option key and don't let go
    3) when you see your boot options, let go of the key and select recovery partition (Lion only)
    4) select disk utility from the options, then highlight Macintosh HD, do a repair the disk and repair permissions
    5) now click the apple icon in the upper corner and shutdown
    6) pull the power cord and hold the on button for 15 seconds
    7) plug it back in, and find the option, P, command, & R keys
    8) hit the power button and as soon as you hear the chime, hold all four keys (it takes two hands)
    9) wait until you hear the startup chime twice and let go, allow the computer to finish booting
I'm not recommending you do it, it is just what I do.  Good luck.

  • X120e 0596 screen wont wake up after sleep mode until unplug it and remove the battery

I recently purchased a Thinkpad X120e (0596) and am genneraly very happy with it however when it goes to sleep the screen does not wake up when the laptop does. when i wake it up i hear the fan spin up but the the screen remans powered off. ive tried waiting several minutes and it still doesnt wake up, ive also tried holding the power button for several (more than 5 ) seconds to force it to power off fully then start it again and the screen still doesnt wake up. the only way i can get it to work again is to make sure to unplug it and remove the battery for several seconds then i can get it to boot with the normaly expected complaints from windows after an abnormal shutdown.
I have the latest updates from lenovo and microsoft installed including the latest firmware. I like the laptop so i would rather report the problem and provide any information neccisary to find a resolution than have to return it. Ive seen this problem with other laptops before and know its probably a  bug in the firmware thats not waking up the GPU is ther any tool i can use to provide the debuging info or any more direct way for me to report the bug I tried calling customer support and they told me they told me my only option was to return it and they could not report or record the issue.

Same issue here, confirmed many times in linux, will likely recur at some point now that I am on windows (8).  The event log from the HAL says "The platform firmware has corrupted memory across the previous system power transition. Please check for updated firmware for your system" even after successful suspends, so who knows what happens when it fails. Since it's video-related, the problem could as well be in AMD's driver (also hinting at this is the fact the system periodically freezes when the screen is simply turned off from being idle).
Also worth noting is the fact suspend seemed to work just fine on my system with the factory BIOS (1.08), with the issue appearing only in newer ones (the oldest one still available for download is already affected, and I am running the latest one). There are also slight differences in the issue between the legacy and UEFI boot modes, but none of them mitigate it.

  • My iMac won't wake up after sleep or screen saver.

For the last couple of days my late 2011 iMac (21 inch) has had this issue. If I press the power button, a dark screen will appear with the white cursor (*** apple?) and after a few seconds go back to sleep mode. The fans are running and the only way to turn it back on again is to force it by pressing the power button for 10 seconds or unplugging it.
I have tried reseting the SMC and PRAM, tried to repair the disk, deleted the Cashes and Cookies folders as shown on this post. I have updated the software from Mac OS X (10.7.2) to Mac OS X (10.7.5), showing no satisfying results.
My computer has never had an issue as serious as this one, as I can no longer just leave it there in standby without having to worry about an unsaved file or anything of the sort. What can I do?! Please help!

Please detail ALL you have done so far in the way of troubleshooting?   Need this info to avoid the been there done that scenarios.

  • MacBook Air won't wake up after sleep

I've been reporting sleep problems with my iMac for a while in the past. No-one here would take it seriously (probably hardware, your reports are incidents, no-one else has these problems) so I just went away and I disabled the sleep function of my iMac alltogether, and I won't select the "sleep" button in the login screen anymore, or select "sleep" from the apple menu. No sleep no problem, right?
*Well, I bought a Macbook Air three days ago, and in those three days I have had TWO occasions already where I wanted to wake the Macbook after sleep* (closed lid) and it wouldn't wake up. All I get is the rainbow mouse pointer and the Macbook is unusable unless I reboot it.
Mind you, nothing is connected to the macbook but the power cable, and I find it hard to believe that my Macbook Air would also suffer from 'hardware problems' like my iMac alledgedly is.
In all my time using OSX 10.4 on my 17" PowerPC MacBook pro I have never had any problems, but since switching to Intel Macs with 10.5 I have these "sleep" problems all the time.
What gives, and can I expect Apple to do anything about this problem that I've been having since I bought my iMac more than a year ago, and is now also spoiling my MacBook Air experience?

I have a Macbook Air and it also frequently (6 times out of 10) will not wake from sleep mode, only way to revive it is to hold down power button for 10 secs and force a restart. VERY FRUSTRATING!
I also occasionally use an external Apple 24' Screen (Non LED) and find that the MBAir will often freeze when you plug that into it or unplug it from it.. Perhaps I have a hardware fault on the MB Air? Or will this be fixed in software?
