Screens flicker on and off, especially after 'waking'

Just shy of 100% of the time I wake my computer from full sleep mode or just the screensaver (factory installed screensaver), my monitors will take turns turning blue, then black, then coming back on again in a cycle that repeats for up to five minutes. On the black screen, I get a small message that reads "no signal." Any suggestions? Does the info below help? Thanks!

I do think you mean thinkpad, Thinkcentre is the desktop.
During your initial startup, press the blue thinkvantage button, which hopefully will take you into the Rescue and Recovery, from which select restore to factory setting.
Alternatively, burn yourself a set of recovery media from Start -> Program -> Thinkvantage -> Create Recovery Media -> Recovery disks. And use that disk to restore your laptop to factory state. <- Even if you don't use this step, it is a good idea to burn a set of recvoery disks.

  • Screen flickers on and off

    Please help!
My iBook screen flickers on and off every couple of minutes - it looks like it's just shutting off. Once it flickered off, flicked back on and the whole screen was red for a sec, and then switched back on normally.
Does this mean I'm going to need a new computer?

    Maybe.
There is some kind of inverter board and video circuit which
may be going bad; and maybe the cost of this (or whatever
is wrong with it) could be a fair start toward the cost of a
new or newer computer. There should be an Apple Hardware
Test on a bootable disc, included with the computer.
You know, you get a fairly recent OS X version with the
purchase of an Apple Certified refurbished machine from
the Apple Store online; and it qualifies for the extended
AppleCare optional coverage, past the one year service
and 90 days support (enrolled, it adds total of three years.)
How old is your iBook computer and could it have any
AppleCare plan coverage left? There is a serial number
check box in part of the Apple Support section online.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • All drop down lists flicker on and off while typing or right clicking.

All drop down lists in Firefox, whether it's the menu drop downs, the autocomplete drop downs in the URL bar or the Search field, or even autocomplete drop downs in website form fields, flicker on and off as I type, or when I'm right clicking a link to open in new window or trying to copy a link. I can sometimes get what I want by waiting for it to flicker on and clicking at just the right moment, but it often doesn't work at all. I have a fresh install of Firefox 13.0.1 with no running add ins, plugins or other 3rd party tools. (The troubleshooting info says I have the Adobe Create PDF Extension enabled, but it's not)
None of the suggested fixes I've found in the forums seem to apply here, cause they're all related to add-ins that I don't have.
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks

If you have attempted the reset, which is holding the home button and sleep/wake button, was it still connected to the computer? Have you tried to do that when not connected. You stated it never came on, how long did you hold the buttons together? If you cannot get it to connect to iTunes then you would not be able to restore the device. You can see if you can put the device into Recovery Mode by following the instructions in this support document. If that does not work, then you are correct, make an appointment at the Apple Store. If you can't update or restore your iOS device

If you keep getting a 'red' message it means that the HDD is faulty and will have to be replaced.  You will have to format the new HDD in Disk Utility>Erase and then install the OSX and your data from Time Machine.

  • IPod touch apple logo screen blinking on and off

iPod touch apple logo screen blinking on and off, unresponsive to physical touch. Frozen without looking frozen.

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • Blue screen on c7280 all in one reads b851fe84. lights flicker on and off. will not turn off.

HP Photosmart C7280 All-In-One printer.  Operating system is Windows XP.  This has happened sporadically over several months.  A few weeks ago, I inserted new ink cartridges and that seemed to stop the problem.  Now, it has returned.  The on/off button will not turn the printer off.  The photo-menu, print photos, auto answer, on/off button, plus a light near the card slots all blink on and off.  The PhotoSmart Express displays a blue screen with B851FE84 written on it.  On occasion, I have received other blue screen messages but they appear for just a second or two.  I believe one earlier today was B01B17FC but it only appeared for a second or two so it may not be correctly recorded.

  • New atv2 keeps flicking on and off screen

Hi, just got my brand new atv2, opened it up plugged it in and went through the wifi access details without an issue. But now the menu appears with movies highlighted but then it disappears offscreen and the tv does not receive a signal, I cant move between the options when it comes back on screen as it goes off in about a second.
I've held down the menu and down button as some of the topics suggest but nothing happens!!
Have I bought a dud device?? What can I do?

Does this mean there is an issue?
I'd put it down to one of 4 things.
The Apple TV is duff, not likely, but not impossible.
Something has become corrupt and it needs restarting or restoring.
There's a problem with the HDMI connection.
There's a problem on your network.
Trying at a friends house would be very helpful, but meantime you can always try a restore, it's quite quick and painless.
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
    Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
(You may already have a micro USB cable if you have a camera or other digital device)

  • P965 doesn't POST, power flicking on and off

    I have a P965, with an E6600, an Nvidia 8800 GTS(320mb), a OCZ GameXStream 600 watt psu, 2 GB of Patriot Extreme Performance RAM(DDR2 800).
I haven't any real trouble with my computer for quite a while, but I recently got a new laptop and haven't used my desktop in days. I came back to it to find a blank screen. Normally it powers down for a moment right after it's turned on and then powers back on, which is a normal occurrence or feature or some such. But now it just turns on for a good five to ten seconds, then starts turning on and off every second or two, with the monitor still remaining blank with no POST or BIOS or anything. It will keep doing this a few more times before it stays on for another five to ten seconds and repeats the cycle all over. I thoroughly cleaned out any dust, secured all the cables and tried a spare cable for my monitor just to see if that's why nothing would pop up, but to no avail.
I'm nervous that it might be a problem with the motherboard or power supply, or maybe the video card. Any help would be greatly appreciated

That's a good idea to remove it all from the case and bench test it that way. Remove and then reseat all components ensuring everything is full inserted/plugged in to their appropriate jacks, slots, sockets, and whatever. Also double check there are no extra standoffs in the case (or anything else that could cause a short circuit) that don't line up with MB mounting screw holes. Be sure clean surface of CPU and cooler mounting surface and apply fresh thermal compound.

  • 6700 Classic screen flashing on and off since scre...

I have just changed the LCD screen on my 6700. The new screen works fine whilst the phone is in use, but as soon as the normal standby happens, ie after about 20 seconds, the screen starts to flash on and off. As soon as any of the buttons is pressed the screen stops flashing and is on and back to normal. I have tried resetting to factory default. Tried to update firmware, but the version is 10.50 and is unable to be updated.
Is there a way to obtain the latest version of the firmware via my PC so that it can be uploaded to the phone?
Is it possible that there may be a fault with the screen or ribbon cable, which is strange as the screen work fine and displays all pixels when in use.
Any suggestions as to what can be tried next?

    Thanks for speedy reply.
Yes I did change the screen myself as the local approved Nokia Repair Centre would not replace the screen under warranty as they stated that cracked screens are not covered by the Nokia warranty. They then mentioned that they had none in stock anyway and were not placing their next order until 24th October.
I have now put the cracked screen back into the phone and normal operation has been resumed. From this I conclude that although the new screen worked fine when the phone was in use, there is an inbuilt fault that causes the flashing.
Thanks for the info on the updates, that was the process that I was trying to use. Once i typed in the code number from the phone, the website said that 10.50 was the correct firmware.

  • Multiple screens turning on and off (10.9.5)

    Hi
Have some serious issues, that makes working with my new iMac impossible
    System setup:
Two 47" TVs (Philips) connected thru Thunderbolt and adapters to HDMI
One of the TB-port also has the Apogee ThunderBridge, after that the TV
    MacOS 10.9.5
With 10.9.4 it worked flawless, had 3 screens running as an extended desktop (not mirroring)
Now after the update today to 10.9.5:
    - I can't use the 3rd screen anymore, only iMac and one TV
    - these 2 screens, randomly turn on and off, sometimes they work for a couple of minutes, then turnin on and off several times within seconds
    - sometimes the TV even shows noise and then comes back again
Sadly I haven't made a backup from 10.9.4. I never would have thought, that such a bug would be introduced. Lesson learened I guess, although I'm hoping somebody has a solution...
    I feel totally screwed

    Did some further trouble shooting.
Both TVs still work fine on my old MacPro with OS 10.6.8.
Tried also to connect just one of the TVs. One was working fine, within 30 minutes no turning on and off, but the second TV didn't work at all. The iMac was not able to recognize it.

  • Video connector keeps disconnecting (Screen flickers on and off)

    Hi,
I bought a HP Pavilion Notebook 14-v054ca two weeks ago. Last week, the screen was flickering on and off, so I took it to the shop. They said the video connector was knocked loose and asked me if I dropped the laptop. The laptop is on my desk 24/7 and I have not dropped it once (I only had it for a week)! I have a warranty, so they replaced my laptop for me. Sadly, all my data was wiped, but hey, things happen.
    I digress.
Here I am with my second brand new HP Pavilion Notebook 14. I want to make sure the screen incident doesn't happen again, so I open and close the lid as gently as I can. Guess what. One week later, the video connector disconnected yet again. Is the 14-v054ca just a line of faulty, defective laptops? I hope that is not that case, because I love HP to death. I have an HP desktop and I am extremely satisfied with it. I don't want to trade this laptop in again just to have it happen a third time. It's an utter waste of time, and I lose my data every single time they give me a new one.

    Hello, @PongV2
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you've bought two notebooks and both have had an issue with flicker screen. That this was identified from where you purchased it as a loose connector.

  • Safari is unstable (screen flicks up and down) and zooms in to largest size frequently.  Is there a fix for this?

My Safari is unstable (screen fliocks up and down)  This is especially frustration when I scroll to a link, then it moves while I am try ing to click it.  It also zooms in to the largest size frequently.  Is there a fix for this short of reinstalling Safari?

From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.

  • Keep losing network connection, especially after waking from sleep, but...

For a while now, my G5 would have intermittent problems not finding the network after it has been asleep for a bit. I used to resolve this by resetting the router, or sometimes putting the Mac back to sleep and resetting the router.
Lately, I discovered another fix: wake up my MacBook. The MacBook wakes up, connects wirelessly, and sees the network, and shortly thereafter, the G5 sees it too.
I cannot interpret this. Why would it be that the G5 would fail to see the router until after the MacBook is awake (and sees the router)? I never could figure out which component was at fault before, and this further confuses me. I mean, it seems that it has to be the G5, since if another computer can see the net on the same network, it would rule out the router and the cable modem. Right?
So what do I do about the G5, then? Yesterday, it was getting to the point where every time I woke up the G5, it wouldn't find the network (until after I woke up the MacBook).

    Hi, Brent:
I would not be too quick to start swapping things out (esp. expensive things!) without letting the discussion flow. I have never seen an answer that worked except updates and not all do... see below.
My Dual 2.5GHz G5 has been doing this on and off for years. It has been networked wirelessly since I got it and I am on my third router now for other reasons. I run two other Macs (G4 mini and early IMac/Intel) as well as two laptop PCs, all wireless. None of the other machines ever has this intermittent connectivity issue - just the G5. The symptom is a stalled browser (Safari or FireFox) with the wireless symbol almost always at four bars. Once in a while (like today), the bars will fade down to two for a while, but rarely. Absolutely the only temporary fix I have found successful is to switch airport on and off. Cure may hold for a while or it may not. Have noticed some apps using airport still seem to work (an old MacStumbler utility) even when Safari locks up. Thought it might be a Safari bug, but FireFox does the same thing.
IMHO, this is fundamentally related to a G5 software issue or interaction with the airport or network card. As I noted above, code evolution is a strong factor in my experience. My problems come and go tightly linked to software updates. It is usually a night-and-day change. I am at 10.4.11 on all Macs here; problem had not been around until I ran the last big update to 4.11. Interestingly, my daughter owns a very new iMac with Leopard and has seen the same type of behavior since Day One. I have also seen this problem mentioned about Leopard and iMacs in the lay press.
Wish I could offer a solution, but I am just waiting it out again.

  • MB screen flashes on and off...HELP!

Just got a new macbook for my wife. Came from Apple with 2 sticks of 256mb RAM. I added 2 1gb Patriot sticks from Newegg. all seemed well. but now under load, not full load just opening apps, the screen flashes black and then after a few seconds it comes back on. It happens often enough to be annoying.
    Here's what I did:
    1. Replaced with apple shipped ram.- Doesn't seem to occur, so I figured bad ram...
    2. Ran memtest on both stick individually. 3 passes on each stick
    3. Reset PMU as advised by AppleCare
Still could be bad ram but...
    1. I pulled the two 1gb APPLE RAM sticks from my 17" MBP, still occured.
    2. Tried the Patriot 1gb sticks in my MPB, all is fine.
So I don't think it is bad ram?
Any helpers out there? Apple wants to blame 3rd party RAM, but their ram that shipped with my MBP exhibit's the problem too...

My screen was flashing just like yours and failed tonight, 20 days into the purchase. Take it back and get a refund. Don't take another macbook until they get all of these quality control issues worked out. This was my third macbook and I had not been having any problems, but was experiencing the flash. It is starting up in the background and can be used in target disk mode, so the issue is the screen. Return while you can, it will eventually go out completely.
